OP, that is not a good idea. Have you seen threads that have that? You end up with people quoting huge dialogues (and pictures!) constantly so the same post is repeated over and over again; and it makes the thread ridiculous long to read through.

Most forum software offers these features to free members. I joined a little while ago and am not sure that it's worth it to me to buy a subscription. One inducement is members who can engage in a civil discussion without insults.

Honestly, I would just be happy if I could block threads and have them stay blocked (I rarely block threads but sometimes stuff about bestiality news comes up as a thread title and I don't want to see that ever) and if my thread watcher both watched the threads i want to watch and didn't watch the threads I un-eyeballed reliably.

DL is run by people who think that the old 1990s "bastard operator from hell" aesthetic is still hip and cool and edgy, so they make things as difficult as possible for members the way a typical BofH did 30 years ago.

Troll-dar was absolutely essential, so of course they took it away. Same with ignore thread.

Not everyone signs their post. A way to identify that multiple posts are from the same user without having to block them and then review their post history.

Mute as well as block. Because when an annoying little mushroom twigs they're blocked, they get horny and think they've won a particular debate or point. Mute would mean they'd waste their energy to carry on yapping thinking that anyone was still paying them mind, and not be aware that they're on ignore.

I would just like some basic moderation. Use the filter that prevents us from typing the word "Edw1n" and add a few slurs and troll phrases to it. Bring back the ban on links to places like Breitbart and Tucker Carlson's fake news website (forgot the name of it). A moratorium on a few key topics would help. When you ban a bunch of Matt's or Davida's sock puppets, ban them all, not just some of them.

Right now there's some troll constantly posting troll threads along with instructions on how to game the automated moderation system so his thread won't get grayed out. How does someone like that not get banned?

Just a tiny bit of work on the moderation front is all this place needs.

The complaints about innocent people getting flagged seems overblown. Many years ago, the moderation system was easy to game and people got permabanned for no reason, and it was a real problem. That hasn't been an issue for years.

The influx of people lately who demand DL not have any moderation whatsoever is weird, and I have my suspicions about what's driving it, but the bottom line is that nothing gets shut down unless you're spamming, going overboard, and/or making a nuisance of yourself. There's a thread on here this morning where someone posted that all blacks were "j*gaboo ch*mp n*ggers" and it's not even grayed out. That's far more common than seeing something grayed out, which happens rarely. What more do you want as far as "freedom of expression"?

I vote we strip everything on the DL down to sheer old skool basics,

maybe even turn this into a bbs and lose half of the crowd to door games and battling out their grievances in tradewars,

but messages people have to download and modify their own app to get here, so they can have whatever features they want.. any kind of plug-in/add-on/mod, their choice of skins, and all the free ponies they could ask for as long as they're responsible enough to take care of it all themselves.

There are some forums in the old bulletin board style that still require forum code for bold or italics or what have you, but they all have buttons to automatically do it for you. You highlight the word you want in bold and click the "bold" button and a [b] [/b] is automatically typed for you. It's sorcery! It's also not ever something that we're going to get here, because god fucking forbid this forum be user friendly. It's very obviously formatted to be UNfriendly, on purpose.

I wish there was a way to tell, when looking at "Recent" threads, if they're new or old, immediately. Since all it says in the lower right corner is something like "a minute ago" - which just means the last time someone posted in the thread. The original date of the thread should be there. Also it would be nice if old threads weren't mixed in with the newest threads, just because someone posts in an old thread.
