Namor should be built more like The Rock.

Unfortunately if you look up regular pictures of this actor, you’ll find that he’s fug.

I want my superheroes built like Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, not Chris Pine and Chris Pratt (now).

He's not supposed to be black, R7. They've reimagined Namor the Sub-Mariner and his Atlanteans as sort of Mayan.

Namor, the Sub-Mariner, as Jack Kirby drew him when the character was revived in the 1960s.

I actually think making him Mayan and using traditions like Kukulkan is more interesting than yet another Atlantis-based mythos.

I've heard the plan is that Namor is actually going to be a Mutant like the X-men.

The comics established at least thirty-plus years ago Namor was a mutant. His mutations are those ridiculous little wings on his ankles which supposedly allow him to fly.

I don't find him 'fug' at all.

I think he's very handsome and quite fit. But I have to admit I was expecting more from the actor who played Namor. In the comics he was drawn to have more of a lean figure than, say, Thor or Captain America, but he still had big, prominent biceps, lats, and tits. Makes sense for someone strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Hulk or Thor. But people who share this opinion have been scolded for body shaming the actor, which I hope I'm not doing. He's gorgeous; he's just not Namor. No shame in that. Maybe I'll feel differently about it once I see the movie.

It may have been wiser of them not dress him in the traditional, unforgiving green Speedos and instead went with the blue outfit Namor has worn off and on since the 70s (which was created by T'Challa, ironically).

I haven’t seen Black Panther 2 yet. Is Namor T’Challa’s gardener or a drug dealer apprehend by Wakanda’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency?

Comic Namor was Vulcan before the Vulcans, with his ears and eyebrows.

I love this creative direction they took for Namor and Atlantis.

It’s race swapping with a true identity and purpose, creating something unique and cool. It also draws a clear distinction with DC, who beat Marvel to the punch with Atlantis.

R29. I largely agree. It's clever to tie Tlalocan into the mythological place. They refer to Namor as the Feathered Serpent which was inventive, and attribute a death portfolio to him which is also smart. Particularly given both the Serpent's association with the underworld, and the myth tying the the realm of Tlaloc with the dead.

It's not the cleanest swap though. There's still remnants of the Atlantis/Greek stuff. Like the singing blue guys seems inspired by the Sirens. Namor himself has the winged feet of Hermes. It's a little off.

I like that he got some meat over the muscles. The actor seems like a really sweet and funny guy, so I'm only waiting for it to come out that he's a huge homophobe or some other shit.

Apparently, they added a bulge for the trailers. In the actual movie, the bulge was not in. I didn't really pay attention to the bulge, or lack thereof. With those legs, I just imagined what they would look and feel like over my shoulders.

He seems very proud of his indigenous heritage, and even his name "Tenoch" is an abbreviation of Tenochtitlan, which is the ancient name for Mexico City.

I think that's probably why they chose him for the part of Namor. He has strong cultural ties.

I did think he was sexy although was not a fan of the nose piercing. I agree with some others though - I guess we've been conditioned to expect real superhero bodies by this point and although he's in good shape he's not up to the same standard as Chris Hemsworth etc. Considering he spends most of the film running around in hot pants he should have roided up a bit more.
