This is the trailer of Confess, Fletch. Any thoughts on it? Will it be successful?
Smells like a flop

Is it set in Cabot Cove?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 24, 2022 12:07 AM |
My husband saw it. He said the funniest thing about the movie was people pelting popcorn at the snoring man who fell asleep during the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 24, 2022 12:11 AM |
I read the books long ago and enjoyed them. This trailer does not look good.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 24, 2022 12:14 AM |
Yeah, the trailer does look awful!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 24, 2022 12:15 AM |
Eh, meh...
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 24, 2022 12:16 AM |
I’d sooner pay for the rom com featuring Flo from Progressive.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 24, 2022 12:25 AM |
Why has Hamm had such a crappy post Mad Men career? He’s cute. He’s got a big floppy dick. And he’s an ok actor. Lesser talents have had bigger careers.

[quote]Will it be successful?
Only if he's whipping out that hammaconda every ten minutes and threatening to choke someone with it.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 24, 2022 12:30 AM |
I have always had mixed feelings about Hamm after the story about his frat days and how rude he was to Kathy Griffin but he does comedy well. Loved him in A Young Doctor’s Notebook and all the various guest shots on so many comedies. But this looks bleak.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 24, 2022 12:39 AM |
r8 No range and not particularly remarkable in the range that he has, either. Just solid, nothing to write home about.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 24, 2022 12:46 AM |
Is fetch a book series or something?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 24, 2022 12:48 AM |
I dunno about this movie, but John Hamm can be pretty funny -- like his current Progressive commercials with Flo, and the unforgettable "John Hamm's John Ham" skit on SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 24, 2022 12:52 AM |
Yes, from the 80s I think.
Hamm was funny in Good Omens and I like him in the Flo commercials. This is the wrong kind of humor maybe.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 24, 2022 12:52 AM |
I always thought of Fletch ala Chase as an asshole. You’d think Hamm could do that well.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 24, 2022 12:54 AM |
Yeah, Fletch is a smart ass and also on the young side, not serious about life.
Hamm looks like an adult, that's why he was cast so well in Mad Men. He had that older-than-their-age, more formal look that men had in the 50s. Fletch probably wears a baseball cap and an ironic tshirt with baggy shorts.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 24, 2022 2:43 PM |
Deeply unserious person. Any grown man who is a fan of the Housewives is a clown.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 24, 2022 2:51 PM |
You’re right r16. Hamm looks his age and that might not work for the Fletch character.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 24, 2022 5:01 PM |
Will he show some skin?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 24, 2022 5:02 PM |
The Fletch books were great in their time. Fletch was a 20 something, hippyish sort of guy. I other words, Hamm is completely wrong for the part.
Does anyone else get the air of desperation seeping out of Hamm?

First thread with a dumbass title. Nothing against you OP

NP, r23 . Sorry for the duplicate.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 24, 2022 5:12 PM |
R22 how would you know. Your thread is better. Linked that one for reference
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 24, 2022 5:47 PM |
Should be shown with the "new" movie starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts "Ticket To Paradise" on a $1.50 double bill......matinees only.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 24, 2022 5:54 PM |
Ugh! Just ugh
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 24, 2022 6:19 PM |
No interest. But John Hamn in "Feltch" would be something I'd want to see.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 24, 2022 8:53 PM |
Wouldn’t we all, r26.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 25, 2022 12:25 AM |
His looks come and go.

[quote]Is fetch a book series or something?
Both Fletch and Flynn are book series by Gregory McDonald. They cross paths in Confess, Fletch. Flynn is a spy who is hiding in the Boston PD as an inspector, and is assigned the homocide case that Fletch is implicated in.
Unfortunately, the movie writers replaced irreverent, dry-witted Flynn with some asshole who wasn't funny or particularly intelligent, but then neither was Hamm's Fletch. The amusing clashes of wit in the book are absent from this leaden script.
Not sure why they decided to continue with the Chevy Chase bumbling idiot Fletch instead of finally making a movie about the actual character: blonde, fit, sexy surfer Fletch. At least Chase delivered somewhat humorous performances in his Fletch installments. Hamm just comes across a dumbfuck.
They also removed the lesbian couple and their subplot, Corky is MIA, and asshole Neanderthal Grover is now a female that we're supposed to feel sympathetic towards. What's left is an insultingly stupid storyline that's missing the biting sarcasm and plotlines that would have beefed up the insipid script.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 29, 2022 6:23 AM |
Oh, dearing myself for "homocide." Must have been a Freudian slip, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 29, 2022 6:27 AM |
(R29) What do you expect? The movie barely made 250,000 opening weekend. He needs to stay on tv doing commercials and snl pop-ups. He is not movie star material.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 29, 2022 6:28 AM |
Would You Felch Jon ?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 29, 2022 6:29 AM |
I love and own the Chase films. He may be a massive asshole with an unwarranted ego, but he was funny as hell. This is just...no. Comedy is more difficult than drama, but Hamm takes himself too seriously to be effective as a lead. Not to mention the fact that it's a remake no one asked for (which is most Hollywood output now).
I ALMOST feel sorry for him, this is so bad.

[quote]Not to mention the fact that it's a remake no one asked for
Confess, Fletch isn't a remake. It's another book in the Fletch series. The second Fletch movie is pure Hollywood, not part of the book series, but still better than this turd.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 29, 2022 6:32 AM |
(R33) Don’t feel sorry for him. He’s become an arrogant prick because he thinks he’s hot shit because of Top Gun. He produced Confess Fletch and made himself the star. Hoping Mad Men fans would run and see it. Not! I can’t believe you made though the whole movie.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 29, 2022 6:35 AM |
[quote]What do you expect?
I expected it to at least somewhat resemble the storyline from the book- although few movies ever fully do this, most have done it better. They removed and replaced half the characters for no particular reason. I'd hate for someone to pass on reading the book because they think it sucks as bad as this movie does.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 29, 2022 6:36 AM |
They even snuck his Mad Men costar in as Frank, but even that couldn't make Hamm's Fletch interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 29, 2022 6:38 AM |
And put in the red head girlfriend. The first job she’s had in years. He just grosses me out now. Chevy Chase has nothing to lose sleep over.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 29, 2022 6:41 AM |
He looks really bloated in that movie. I heard he got plastic surgery recently.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 29, 2022 6:47 AM |
Hamm is box office poison and basically always has been, post Mad Men. Crazy that he didn't end up being a big star because taken individually he has *so* many great qualities but I'd be tearing my hair out if I was his agent because together they end up a confusing mishmash that has worked against any solid branding. Too handsome to play the goofy sidekick, too goofy and...er...soft, somehow.....to really take seriously as the lead. He's also quick to overstay his welcome onscreen- less is more with him and if he has to carry the picture, it's like the law of diminishing returns- your eyes start to glaze over. Also a liability because he takes his looks for granted and appears almost willful in his refusal to age gracefully. Great on talk shows.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 29, 2022 7:16 AM |
(R40) You hit it right on the nail. He loves to promote himself and his famous “friends” on talk shows.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 29, 2022 7:21 AM |
He promoted Top Gun more than Tammy. He was promoting it before they even started filming.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 29, 2022 7:29 AM |
It's amazing how good he was as Don Draper when he's just not good at anything else except silly comic parts on "Kimmy Schmidt" and "30 Rock."
But it's even worse for January Jones. She was terrific as the rigid, hypercritical Betty, but she's never been even tolerable in any other role.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 29, 2022 7:32 AM |
The ugly Scientologist Elizabeth Moss is the only one that has a decent career.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 29, 2022 7:36 AM |
He is going to be two dying shows. The Morning Show and Fargo. Don’t worry he will be promoting them soon on Fallon.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 29, 2022 7:39 AM |
No! Enough with the retreads. John Hamm just doesn't have the charisma for Fletch
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 29, 2022 7:45 AM |
[quote] "Confess, Fletch isn't a remake. It's another book in the Fletch series. The second Fletch movie is pure Hollywood, not part of the book series, but still better than this turd."
When I'm wrong, I'm wrong, R34.
[quote] "The second Fletch movie is pure Hollywood, not part of the book series, but still better than this turd."
When you're right, you're right.

Then I should be enjoying this shitshow flopping, R35. Also, I like the original "Top Gun", but couldn't give two fucks about seeing a new film thirty-six years later. I never watched it for Cruise to begin with. So, there's that.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 29, 2022 9:24 AM |
Who did they end up pinning the murder on in the movie, since the character who killed her in the book isn't in the film version at all?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 1, 2022 2:58 AM |
Wow what a stinker this movie is! I turned it off after 30 minutes due to boredom.
It’s amazing how Hamm was so completely perfect for his Mad Men role and yet completely wrong for everything else he’s ever tried to do.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 31, 2022 2:57 AM |
I used him as masturbatory material as Don Draper but I just do not find her attractive in anything else.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 31, 2022 3:24 AM |
Hamm, has no charm, no twinkle in his eyes, no wit. He's cold. Perfect for Mad Men. But Fletch - no way.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 7, 2023 3:40 PM |
No. I can’t get past his frat-boy antics.
Cunt.
Next!
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 7, 2023 4:03 PM |
I don’t give a fig about how he acts. I just want to know if he shows his
COCK and BALLS
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 7, 2023 5:13 PM |
I'd settle for a jockstrap at this point.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 7, 2023 10:15 PM |
No. I want to see it but Americans have the attention span of a16 yr old bimbo.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 7, 2023 10:25 PM |
The director was saying he is writing another Fletch for Hamm. Why is he writing one with no one even saw the Fletch Confess? He is not leading man material. He’s just doing commercials now. Alcohol is not cheap.
