DNA Study Shows When Ancient Greeks Colonized Italy
A recent DNA study by an international team of scientists showed when Ancient Greeks colonized Magna Graecia in Italy.
Magna Graecia is the name of the coastal areas of southern Italy and Sicily that were extensively populated by Greek settlers.
The settlers brought with them their Hellenic civilization, which was to leave a lasting imprint in Italy, such as in the culture of ancient Rome.

My people are from the area known as Magna Greca. We did 23 and me and my DNA shows that I have a strong strain of the "Levant "including Greece, Turkey, Morocco, and North Africa. It's important to note tha the Greeks who came to Italy were also from the area now called Turkey. And those Greek islands, too.

Rome took over everything...for a while. But the Arabic cultures colonized Naples area and stayed for about 300 years.

The Greeks also set up colonies in Pre-Roman Gaul and Pre-Roman Hispania, from Massilia (Marseille) to Emporion (Ampurias, Catalonia). There may still be ancient Greek DNA among the locals there.
