Happy Birthday, Janis Paige! 100 years old today..

Our new Olivia DeH..

I used to listen to The Pajama Game original cast album.....and then when I got to see the score, I realized she was singing those notes flat herself.....they weren't written that way.....

Meh…she paled in comparison to Sheree North’s Charlene.

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2022 4:04 PM

She's terrific in "Silk Stockings" and "Please Don't Eat the Daisies". Plus she was a Broadway Mame!

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2022 4:06 PM

I think TCM is showing her movies, in honor of her birthday today.

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2022 4:11 PM

She over-tips.

by Anonymousreply 5September 16, 2022 4:20 PM

Janis Paige movies on TCM today.

"Romance on the High Seas" holds up beautifully, with those Jule Styne songs and a fun plot and great cast. Janis is lovely, and Doris has a great part. Janis, of course, it turns out really excelled in extroverted parts, such as the one Doris plays in this one. She got to play them later in her career.

Her characters had sass and verve. Gorgeous, too.

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2022 6:30 PM

The gal had *verve*! She's gonna live till she dies...

Rejoice while we still can that the first three Broadway musical Mames---Angela Lansbury, Janis Paige, and Jane Morgan---are all still with us.

by Anonymousreply 12September 17, 2022 8:33 AM

I loved her in Bachelor In Paradise.

Janis: I need a martini.

Bob Hope: Isn't it a little early for a martini?

Janis: Early? It's October!!!!

by Anonymousreply 13September 17, 2022 3:57 PM

She was great as Minx Lockridge.

by Anonymousreply 14September 17, 2022 4:49 PM

Happy Birthday, Ms. Paige! You're a legend.

Watching her right now in “Silk Stockings” on TCM.

Love her all-purpose response to reporters: “There’s absolutely no truth to the rumors, we’re just good friends!”

by Anonymousreply 17September 17, 2022 5:14 PM

Simply divine on the Charlie’s Angels episode Angels Ahoy, where she plays a cruise ship murdered who romances Bosley.

Glynis Johns is another lady still with us as well.

Watched the first pairing of Jack Carson (TCM's Star of the Month) and Dennis Morgan (who I adore) in "Two Guys from Milwaukee" with the lovely Joan Leslie and the adorable, always fun S.Z. Sakall, and Janis Paige as comic best friend of Leslie's is right there ready to pounce on her material, any chance she can get, which isn't too often. But you can see what sparkle and fun she is capable of back then and which later came to the forefront after she really hit stardom in "Pajama Game" and returned to the big screen.

by Anonymousreply 20September 19, 2022 5:35 PM

Agree, R7, loved that movie, And it made Day a star.

Funny, R5, I got it.

by Anonymousreply 21September 19, 2022 5:41 PM

I'm kind of glad Sinatra didn't do the film of "Pajama Game" since I'd rather see John Raitt shirtless than skinny Sinatra at the end when that character Sid Sorokin comes out at the end in pajama bottoms only and the leading lady in pajama tops. Though wouldn't have minded to see what Frank was packing down below, since Ava said his total body had a big percentage of dick.

I was a Steam Heat dancer in high school in the 70s. It's a great show.

She played Minx Lockridge after Dame Judith Anderson became too frail to play the part.

by Anonymousreply 25September 20, 2022 5:41 PM

I love Janis ! She’s very well liked and supportive of younger actresses . The cast of Eight is Enough would rejoice when she guest starred

by Anonymousreply 26September 20, 2022 6:06 PM

[quote] The cast of Eight is Enough would rejoice when she guest starred

That's an obscure reference. How do you know?

by Anonymousreply 27September 20, 2022 6:38 PM

Who did Janis play in Eight Is Enough?

Always loved her, btw.

by Anonymousreply 28September 20, 2022 6:45 PM

Has anyone read her autobiography, which I think only came out a few years ago? I would imagine at her age she had no secrets to keep and, of course, she's outlived most of the luminaries she with whom she worked. I hope it's dishy!

by Anonymousreply 29September 20, 2022 6:48 PM

R27, one of the female cast members posted on her Facebook page that when they got the new episode script , and it revealed that Aunti V was returning, they all got super excited 😊

by Anonymousreply 30September 20, 2022 7:30 PM

R28 She played Tom Bradford's free-spirited sister who would come to visit and inspire the kids to follow their dreams.

by Anonymousreply 31September 20, 2022 7:40 PM

👆🏼 there were rumors That they wanted her to be a permanent cast member a replacement for Diana Highland as anti-V living in the house. They want the Betty Buckley route, and she destroyed the shows morale

by Anonymousreply 32September 20, 2022 7:48 PM

Ms. Paige said in recent years that Alfred Bloomingdale (of the department store name) tried to rape her and at the very least came close to and possibly otherwise sexually assaulted her many years ago.

by Anonymousreply 33September 21, 2022 9:34 PM

So if Aunt Vi had been a permanent replacemend, does that mean that she and Joanie would have had the lesbian episode?

by Anonymousreply 34September 21, 2022 11:28 PM

R33 Here is a personal account of what happened.

Good on you, Janis, for telling your story! And still being here years later.

by Anonymousreply 36September 22, 2022 7:38 AM

Any recent pics of her? I mean taken in 2022.

by Anonymousreply 37September 22, 2022 2:08 PM

She’s completely blind as of several years ago. She is deal with it, though cognitively and is very lively

by Anonymousreply 38September 22, 2022 3:18 PM

Still with it 🖕🏽

R42 I'm surprised she's not more of an inspiration for drag queens because she sure looks like one in those photos.
