Predictions for Mourners Funeral Attire at Service for Queen Elizabeth

I predict Camilla will show up with hay in her hair, smelling of a combination of ciggie ash and a horse's vag.

The Duchess of Sussex will probably look fabulous, if not a little Joan Collins circa Dynasty era.

Who will be the standouts and who will be the fails - do they even make Spanx big enough for Fergie?

by Anonymousreply 602September 19, 2022 11:42 PM

Princess Edward will be stunning as usual, even if he is "sans caftan".

by Anonymousreply 1September 10, 2022 3:14 PM

Princess Anne will pull something out of her closet - a barely matching seperates blouse and skirt. She'll do her hair herself in her usual style. And she'll look like a harried bank clerk from Croydon.

by Anonymousreply 2September 10, 2022 3:19 PM

TDoS will be in Santa Barbara

by Anonymousreply 3September 10, 2022 3:19 PM

I predict Sir Elton John will steal the show. At his age, he has nothing to lose, he'll be wearing maribou feathers and flashing led cat-eye glasses, with an elaborate new hair weave...as he croons a mournful "Goodbye Eliza Jean".

by Anonymousreply 4September 10, 2022 3:22 PM

Sarah Ferguson will look like an overweight red-faced slag just dragged out of a Hounslow pub. She's also the one most likely to make the mistake of wearing a pilfered piece of the Queen's jewels to the service.

"No, you've got the wrong end of the stick about this here tiara, mate...it ain't no bleeding Burmese Ruby Tiara...I inherited this from me own mum...it was one of her favs, it was. Now go on and leave me be, me and my daughters is mourning their dear ol' gammy!"

by Anonymousreply 5September 10, 2022 3:35 PM

I will make a risky bet - Kate will be feeling a little too powerful and will overshoot the mark and wear something too flashy. Her polkadot attire for Phil the Greek’s memorial service raised a couple of eyebrows.

by Anonymousreply 6September 10, 2022 3:39 PM

People will be surprised at how old Princess Margaret's children - the current Duke of Snowden David Armstrong-Jones and Lady Sarah Chatto look, because most of the world hasn't seen them since Diana's funeral 25 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 7September 10, 2022 3:41 PM

Good prediction, R6.

Kate sometimes has the poor judgment of a woman who's insecure about her looks.

And she's looks increasing harsh in recent years with that overly-hair and pinched anorexic face.

by Anonymousreply 8September 10, 2022 3:43 PM

I just hope someone from the BBC remembers to powder William's bald dome head.

And reminds him not to wear that Resting Entitled Bastard face throughout the service.

by Anonymousreply 9September 10, 2022 3:45 PM

Beatrice’s husband will wear something a bit tacky.

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2022 3:46 PM

^ Yeah, like an open collar shirt with gold chains showing.

Or he'll go in the opposite direction and look like a dandy dressed for Opening Day at Ascot.

by Anonymousreply 11September 10, 2022 3:49 PM

^ He's the hot guy? Italian?

by Anonymousreply 12September 10, 2022 3:49 PM

Eduardo Mozzi...I'm not sure if he's Italian or Spanish...but he looks like a short grifter at the best of times.

by Anonymousreply 13September 10, 2022 3:51 PM

Meghan: "Where did they seat us?"

Harry: "Overseas."

by Anonymousreply 14September 10, 2022 3:55 PM

Cam will wear jewelry from her ancestress who was a King’s mistress. Charles finds and buys pieces of it for her as gifts (crass).

by Anonymousreply 15September 10, 2022 3:55 PM

Beatrice and Eugenie will both look heavy, since neither had enough notice to starve themselves

They'll avoid being photographed with Kate.

by Anonymousreply 16September 10, 2022 3:56 PM

I think R6 is spot on. She also might be feeling pressure to recreate a photo op like the one at Philip’s funeral. So she may be tempted to go too far.

Meghan, OTOH, will go subdued. I think she’s chastened. She’ll wear something appropriate, but it won’t fit quite right, or it will be wrinkled.

by Anonymousreply 17September 10, 2022 3:58 PM

I predict everyone will be fawning over Camilla regardless of how she looks - the balance of power has shifted.

by Anonymousreply 18September 10, 2022 3:58 PM

Beatrice will dress modestly as always.

I think most people will also be shocked at how much older Charles looks too.

We haven't seen him as much as the Brits, and they won't be able give him the benefit of soft lighting in the Abbey.

I think he also suffers from arthritis.

by Anonymousreply 21September 10, 2022 4:00 PM

QE's expression in the photo at R20 is priceless.

"Why are you here, girl? Shouldn't you should be tidying up or serving canapés?"

by Anonymousreply 22September 10, 2022 4:04 PM

The Princess of Wales will be classy as always, unlike that Minx from Montecito.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 23September 10, 2022 4:05 PM

So Princess Andrew the accused pedo will be at the funeral with the family, but not Meghan?

by Anonymousreply 24September 10, 2022 4:06 PM

Will the Sussex and Cambridge kids go? Or will the funeral be an adults only event? Now that the queen is gone, I think the Meghan may be eager to take any opportunity to link her kids with the BRF in people’s minds.

by Anonymousreply 25September 10, 2022 4:06 PM

The younger children will appear with the family, but I'd be surprised if they're allowed in the Abbey for the actual service.

by Anonymousreply 26September 10, 2022 4:07 PM

We all know the only spectacle that matters is Fergie and her girls.

by Anonymousreply 27September 10, 2022 4:08 PM

If Meghan flounces off because there’s nothing about the funeral that’s about her, sure R24

by Anonymousreply 28September 10, 2022 4:08 PM

[quote] I predict Camilla will show up with hay in her hair, smelling of a combination of ciggie ash and a horse's vag.

How does OP know how a horse’s nether regions smell? Horse nonce!

by Anonymousreply 29September 10, 2022 4:10 PM

William, no matter how much coaching they give him, will wear that same constipated expression throughout that say, "This is just a dress rehearsal for the main event, which is coming very soon."

by Anonymousreply 30September 10, 2022 4:10 PM

There will be graciousness and dignity!

by Anonymousreply 31September 10, 2022 4:11 PM

Meg will announce her upcoming pregnancy in a few days to get out of this awkward disinvitation.

OP = Mr Hands

by Anonymousreply 32September 10, 2022 4:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 33September 10, 2022 4:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 34September 10, 2022 4:13 PM

Mr. Hands?

by Anonymousreply 35September 10, 2022 4:14 PM

I do hope we can count on Fergie and her girls for some telenovelas de Univision drama!

by Anonymousreply 36September 10, 2022 4:15 PM

There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth by the old family hangers-on who know Charles is about to cut them off (Princess Michael etc).

by Anonymousreply 37September 10, 2022 4:15 PM

Let us hope there a lots of veils!

by Anonymousreply 53September 10, 2022 4:34 PM

What r6 said.

It takes restraint and confidence, but if there is only one gigantic moment at which to be sure to play it safe, it's when you are the new Catherine, Princess of Wales, future Queen and granddaughter-in-law of QE II.

and are on world-wide.

I have a feeling Carole Middleton, who has yet to put a foot wrong in guiding the climb of her daughters will remind her of that now is not the time to take a risk.

And, assuming Markle attends (and, seriously, I think it's even odds at this point) she'd be wise to go as restained and inconspicuous as it is to be - covered, hat, no-nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 62September 10, 2022 5:11 PM

Meghan will show up in the costume the Phantom Of The Opera wears in Masquerade.

by Anonymousreply 63September 10, 2022 5:14 PM

This funeral will tell us a lot.

If Harry's wife isn't allowed to even attend the funeral, this breech won't be repaired.

by Anonymousreply 64September 10, 2022 5:24 PM

by Anonymousreply 70September 10, 2022 5:35 PM

There are DM photos of Eugenie wearing stripper shoes. They aren’t actually THAT bad, but not appropriate. They are half clear vinyl. I’d say that’s the biggest misstep so far. Megs and Kate both look nice.

by Anonymousreply 71September 10, 2022 5:59 PM

Photos of Eugenie and Beatrice weeping over the casket in Scotland.

Prince Andrew looks as if he's propping Eugenie up at one point.

by Anonymousreply 72September 10, 2022 6:06 PM

Lady Louise is wearing blue suede scalloped edge Chloe flats they look like they have seen better days. Odd. Her dress looks black, but maybe it’s navy? It’s not like they haven’t had 96 years to prepare. You’dthink they’d have an outfit ready for her.

by Anonymousreply 73September 10, 2022 6:11 PM

Lady Louise Windsor is uglier than Eugenie and Beatrice.

by Anonymousreply 74September 10, 2022 6:12 PM

Will Zara Tindall wear some butch type funeral outfit?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 75September 10, 2022 6:14 PM

Lady Louise looks 30, but like a mentally impaired 30 year-old who still lives with her parents and everybody is still sort of pretending that she is normal.

I don’t think she is ugly, I think she is pretty. But there is something “off.” She definitely doesn’t look like a normal 18 year-old. But that may be her parents or others trying to manage her image.

by Anonymousreply 76September 10, 2022 6:20 PM

The Royal Family probably hides a lot of details on Lady Louise. They have talked about the eyes issues, but they are probably hiding other things. She was a flower girl or whatever in William and Kate's wedding and I suspected that was done out of pity.

by Anonymousreply 77September 10, 2022 6:23 PM

I thought Eugenie may have been wearing Plexis until I realized those cost money.

by Anonymousreply 78September 10, 2022 6:58 PM

Yes, I may be a total "Mary"

But I'm irrationally happy to see William and Harry and their wives reunited for this.

by Anonymousreply 79September 10, 2022 9:09 PM

Have there been any Major Johnny sightings?

by Anonymousreply 80September 10, 2022 10:10 PM

I've yet to see a photo that shows Beatrice's stripper shoes.

by Anonymousreply 81September 10, 2022 10:22 PM

Whatever Zara wears looks butch.

She's like the love child of Princess Anne and Martina Navratilova.

At R83, I posted a photo (from the back) of the Bea's shoes. The heel and the toe cap are opaque black (leather). There's just a clear strap. I wouldn't consider the shoes stripper heels.

Anyway, the DM article had a body language analyst on Andrew, concluding that he was "uninhibited." I thought he might be enjoying being out and about, talking to the press, like he was after Phillip's death.

You're correct, R100 - the Gawker is outdated - it still includes Charles at the number 1 position.

by Anonymousreply 103September 11, 2022 12:56 AM

It will be shocking if Meghan is able to put her base instinct aside and wear something demure and understated that doesn't draw attention to herself.

by Anonymousreply 104September 11, 2022 1:10 AM

And yet there she is looking wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 105September 11, 2022 1:12 AM

The York girls have been instructed to carry big purses.

"Bring back lots of souvenirs for Mummy, Girls!"

by Anonymousreply 106September 11, 2022 1:32 AM

Camilla will wear Queen Elizabeth's good triple-strand of pearls to the funeral.

by Anonymousreply 107September 11, 2022 2:12 AM

Fergie will be outside the Abbey signing autographs and posing for photos - for cash.

by Anonymousreply 108September 11, 2022 2:26 AM

Kate will have had her clothing for this or another funeral chosen long before now. The queen worked with her over years with guidance, and Kate and her staff have done a fine job by her. No one seems to want to be traditionally appropriate for the royal and noble families at the death of the monarch, each according to station and role. No flash, no shine, no overt attention-seeking, dull finishes.

Her dress at the memorial service was correct and attractive, given that it was a memorial service well after mourning for Philip ended.

One does expect the American to look either like she's in a noir peignoir or imitating Jackie O without knowing precisely who she was.

by Anonymousreply 109September 11, 2022 3:08 AM

The Queen left a large collection of hundreds of very expensive leather Lanvin handbags she collected through her reign, plus those she inherited from the Queen Mother.

Andrew really enjoyed his moment in front of the public and the cameras yesterday, miming bow and prayer thanks. Will he be similarly ‘animated’ at the funeral? by Anonymousreply 125September 11, 2022 8:35 AM

Timothée, Harry and Meghan is pretty much your whole reason for living, isn't it?

by Anonymousreply 126September 11, 2022 8:43 AM

Beatrice could have borrowed black stockings from someone; always fucking up and gawping like a weirdo. How does she not have appropriate shoes?

Camilla is finally wearing undergarments. I’m amazed that she’s birthed at least two kids and thinks she can get away with a camisole at her age. The royal tits have been swinging all over for almost 20 years; glad to see them hoisted properly.

As for funeral attire: Kate and Meghan will show everyone how it’s done (as usual) with their individual styles. The makeup will be fresh, their hair in tasteful updos with gorgeous hats. Cameras will be on them and they know it; being demure doesn’t mean you have to lack panache. That’s were Camilla and Anne shine.

The Yorks…why bother? Edo will be better dressed/looking than his wife.

Sophie is a toss-up: she’s either middling or blending into the background; very country squire’s wife. Rarely the best dressed but she is always correct in her own way.

Lady Louise will also attend and hopefully, not look like they just let her out of the nursery. (Seriously…are they infantalizing her on purpose or is it something else?) She seems sweet, though.

Princess Michael will have dyed her shacket/tent ensemble black and think she’s fooling us. Her patchily dyed Chanel handbag will give the game away.

by Anonymousreply 127September 11, 2022 12:38 PM

Thank God Camilla is finally wearing a bra and other basic support garments. I think that's why she looks so much better to me now, although I couldn't put my finger on it.

by Anonymousreply 128September 11, 2022 1:20 PM

I wonder if Bea's eyes bug out when Edo gives her an orgasm?

by Anonymousreply 129September 11, 2022 1:21 PM

Bea probably bought those shoes for her new pole-dancing class.

by Anonymousreply 130September 11, 2022 1:24 PM

Does anyone else feel mildly sick to look at her bug-eyed features? The pair are so often photographed together and the contrast between her unfortunate fizzog and pretty Edo’s is just too great. Like different species even.

by Anonymousreply 131September 11, 2022 1:30 PM

This funeral is really shaping up to be a snooze. I want Dame Joan Collins, Sharon Osborne, Victoria Beckham and Ladyman Colin Campbell as honorary pallbearers. All dressed in black sequins and mantillas.

by Anonymousreply 132September 11, 2022 2:26 PM

Was looking for the thread I saw last night about the the two couples meeting well wishers together outside the castle gates and I guess it got deleted. I wasn’t able to post at the time but a frau on there was making comments about if Meghan rushed out to have a black dress for the walkabout or if she somehow schemed to have one blah blah. It seems like my comment might go just as well here. . Anyway, there is a royal protocol that when travelling to always have a black outfit/sombre attire with you in case something unexpected comes up where ever you are that requires it. In having a conservative black dress at the ready yesterday, Meghan was likely just following royal protocol.

If Meghan hadn’t worn black, the Klan Grannies would be bleating about how appalling and attention seeking she was for wearing a color on the walkabout.

by Anonymousreply 135September 11, 2022 2:49 PM

Excellent post, r127.

I agreed with somebody upthread that Catherine, the PoW, may be tempted to overdo it, but, now, I think she won't. she doesn't have to.

I'm crazy enough to think she should re-wear exactly what she wore to Prince Phillips funeral, but add to her hat a subtle, embroidered hat band that has an echo of a tiara. She is a Princess, after all, but, then again, even that may be too presumptuous.

As for the necessity of undergarments, you are so correct. I couldn't agree with you more.

They counter, temporarily, the effect of gravity on both a young and an aged breast line. They rein in body rolls and muffin tops. They dictate and guide the drape of a garment in a way that cannot be surpassed. The very sheerest of leg hose, whether nude or black, adds just the right polish to legs and footwear.

Yes, they're a bitch to wear.

Hell, Q E II deserved to have bestowed upon herself and additional title just for wearing pantyhose almost every day of her life. Yes, they're the contemporaneous equivalent of trusses and girdles.

But, for as perfect a look as perfect can get, undergarments are indispensable.

The old bitches are cray cray R133.

by Anonymousreply 137September 11, 2022 2:55 PM

She still would have brought it traveling r134 as they were zipping around England and Germany for a few days after flying in from California. That’s what “travelling” means. Protocol is protocol. But thanks for your pointless input.

by Anonymousreply 138September 11, 2022 3:05 PM

Meghan should stick it to them and go early 1960s Barbra Streisand with that mixed style thrift store clothing look.

by Anonymousreply 139September 11, 2022 3:09 PM

Remember to show Bea some respect, according to reports she either has already been named or will shortly be named a Councillor of State for King Charles. There are always at least four. As consort, Camilla can be named but the others are the next adults in the line of succession. William will remain as Prince of Wales. Harry was/is listed as one but technically the people holding the position are supposed to actually live in the country. Then you have Prince Andrew, who no one wants to see signing legislation into law or knighting people. I can see Andrew quietly resigning/retiring as CoS, as long as his daughter gets his place. Charles will keep Harry on, but everyone will pretend like he doesn't live in the US now. It is important because there must be two CofS to fulfill the duties, William isn't allowed to do it himself and most of the time when Charles will be abroad so will Camilla.

by Anonymousreply 140September 11, 2022 4:09 PM

"Charles and Camilla are a different generation. I predict they'll be much less rigid about protocol."

Queen Elizabeth would damn well want all the tradition and protocol in the world at her funeral! Chuck and Cam can be less rigid at other duties, and go hog wild breaking tradition at their coronation if they want to, but Elizabeth's funeral should be by the Crux Austraulis's book.

by Anonymousreply 141September 11, 2022 4:19 PM

If anyone's going to show up with straw in their hair, it'd be Anne or Zara!

Let's hope they remember to take off their Wellies before entering Westminster Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 142September 11, 2022 4:22 PM

Now that Elizabeth can’t enforce her Victorian values on everyone, I hear that from now on, Camilla will attend the Royal Variety Show braless.

Hopefully, nobody will sing a medley from Hair, because when those baps are freed, they will take out the entire royal box.

by Anonymousreply 143September 11, 2022 4:26 PM

[quote]Lady Louise will also attend and hopefully, not look like they just let her out of the nursery. (Seriously…are they infantalizing her on purpose or is it something else?) She seems sweet, though.

She does seem a bit...delayed; it's hard to believe she's a college student.

In keeping with their new roles, Kate & Wills will look spectacular.

I predict Anne will surprise everyone and will look elegant in her own way.

I predict Bea & Edo will be on their A game; they're totally Team Charles now

Eug, on the other hand, I think she'll look alright, but in keeping with her parents, she & Jack will do something slightly embarrassing to make spectacles of themselves

While I don't know if it will happen, I hope someone at the Palace ties down Harry & does something about his hair & scrubby beard.

by Anonymousreply 144September 11, 2022 4:39 PM

R144 It wouldn't surprise me about Anne. She has that effortless type of elegance that only comes from being to the manor born.

I predict Camilla will wear undergarments and make a special effort for the day - if only for the sake of Charles.

P.S.

But after that she'll be all saggy tits out again, "I don't need no stinking bra - I'm the fucking Queen now - I'll be in the barn."

Bea is planning to come dressed as a furry, specifically as the Queen's original beloved Corgi Susan.

She'll say it's a tribute to her beloved Gammy's favorite pet, and the ancestor of so many of the Queen's subsequent Corgis and Dorgis.

But in reality, Bea desperately needs the attention. And she's hoping to get her hot husband Edo interested in more kinky sex.

by Anonymousreply 150September 11, 2022 7:26 PM

I'm dreaming of Major Johnny sitting prominently on one of the pews at Westminster Abbey, wearing his kilt while he crosses and uncrosses his legs, a la Sharon Stone in "Basic Instinct"...

They'll need to revive Edward multiple times during the funeral...

(but the BBC will attribute it to Edward's grief)

by Anonymousreply 151September 11, 2022 7:51 PM

A lot of Royals know they're about to be cut from the Civil List - annual incomes, free housing, and other generous benefits they enjoyed during QEII reign.

Who's knows what kind of passive aggressive responses we may see at the funeral.

He's like some kind of British Jimmy Swaggart.

"^ And really, how long before Kate is Queen (Consort)...the smart ones will start sucking up to her now."

I don't think it will be long, Charles looks OLD for 73. Camilla looks 10-15 years younger, and she's actually a year older. She looks like a healthy and energetic woman in her 60s, and Charles looks over 80 and doddering.

No, I give it 5-10 years before it's King William, with a strong possibility of Charles abdicating "for reasons of health".

by Anonymousreply 166September 11, 2022 11:06 PM

This is Andrew's last hurrah with the public, isn't it, after this he's going to voluntarily decline to attend any public family events (banned), so he's going to play it up and do his best to embarrass Charles while he still can.

A mother may indulge and forgive a ne'er-do-well son until the day she dies, but nobody has any patience with ne'er-do-well siblings. Remember that, Harry!

by Anonymousreply 169September 11, 2022 11:42 PM

R167 Actually, I think he is using this time not so much to redeem himself but to negotiate with The King. I wouldn't be surprised if after the funeral is said and done, Beatrice not only ends up a CofS but also with the lease to the lodge. He isn't allowed to leave the remainder of his lease to anyone other than a spouse. So he can't leave it to Fergie unless they remarry, which they totally should. He views it as their family home. Elevating Beatrice is a small price to pay for her father agreeing to disappear. Though I will imagine some financial payoff will be required as well. For all his many faults, he really does seem to care for "the girls" and also Fergie, so I think to get him to "voluntarily" give up any hope of returning to the fold, Charles will have to assure him that they will be looked after.

And, she has a unique window of actually being useful to the family, for at least the next decade as a CofS. And, she hasn't ever really done anything to embarrass the family, unlike her parents, and is the highest ranking adult Princess of the Blood. Even when she wore that crazy hat to Will and Kate's wedding, she turned it around and raised a bunch of money for charity by auctioning it.

by Anonymousreply 170September 12, 2022 12:06 AM

That sounds like a reasonable assumption R170; she seems kind of benign, willing to play the game and wisely appeared to avoid the Harkle drama. She probably doesn't have many actual life skills & the marriage to Edo, even though he's done nothing specific, just seems kind of dodgy so this would be a way to assure she's care for.

by Anonymousreply 171September 12, 2022 12:11 AM

@r169 And just like that the smelly old cunt disappeared... *POOF* 😂

by Anonymousreply 172September 12, 2022 12:13 AM

There must be a reason why Fergie and Andrew have not remarried. Fergie was a damn disgrace, selling access to Andrew for 500,000 pounds. Probably nobody wants her to be Duchess of York again.

by Anonymousreply 173September 12, 2022 12:16 AM

R173 I'm surprised they haven't remarried just so they will enjoy the legal spousal privilege again, so they can't be compelled to testify against one another.

by Anonymousreply 174September 12, 2022 12:33 AM

I hope Sarah, Duchess of York gets to walk and sit with the family. Enough of this sticking her in a corner. The queen liked her.

by Anonymousreply 175September 12, 2022 12:47 AM

Markle should not be invited. But id she is, she will break the dress code and look ridiculous. And of course, always looking for the camera.

And Netflix has no doubt been banned. Ha!

by Anonymousreply 176September 12, 2022 12:48 AM

R175 She really should. The family should acknowledge to regardless of her past, HM adored her. Even inviting her around when Phillip was away.

by Anonymousreply 177September 12, 2022 12:53 AM

"Actually, I think he is using this time not so much to redeem himself but to negotiate with The King. I wouldn't be surprised if after the funeral is said and done, Beatrice not only ends up a CofS but also with the lease to the lodge."

That's an excellent point, and I hope Andrew is smart enough to think of it! Because Charles isn't going to let him back in the fold, but Andrew can still get good deals for Bea and then Eugenie, and then he can quietly vanish from public view and promise to keep Fergie quiet after they remarry. The life of a Remittance Man is pleasant and comfortable, and Andrew can set himself and his whole family up in style if he plays his cards well in the coming days.

Of course the Harkles could also make a similar deal, but they won't. Meg is just too damn determined to be massively famous, and to do things on her own terms.

I don't think Catherine can get any better than her look for Philip's funeral; hopefully she won't try to change the recipe.

I'd love a Cher moment from Meghan, but even though she's hit-or-miss, I think within the constraints of a funeral she won't mess up. Even if she repeated the glorious green Alexis Colby outfit, it would be okayish in black.

So I guess it's up to the York girls to entertain us with hooker heels and fashion-victim get-ups.

by Anonymousreply 181September 12, 2022 12:00 PM

Will Sophie ever stop crying? She looked unkept when the family viewed the flowers in Scotland. How small of a budget did QEII put Edward on cause his wife continually looks common and her hair wasn't even done before a paps walk. She needs to pull her shit together, it wasn't her mother that went so stop the theatrics. Yeah, it's sad but have some decorum, even her own children aren't this emotional in public.

I predict Sophie will show up in some off the rack dress, looking like a physicians wife/office manager.

by Anonymousreply 183September 12, 2022 12:57 PM

r75. I forgot that Zara, as usual, looked worse than Sophie. Without her extensions that sad little bum looked even worse. I get it, you're in mourning, but you also have hairstylist on call in the castle so why not take 15 minutes to look like you care? On the Queen's worst day (Mother's funeral, sister's funeral, father's funeral, husband's funeral) not a hair was out of place. So there are zero excuses for Zara and her struggle bun.

by Anonymousreply 184September 12, 2022 1:01 PM

r86 why does Edward insist on wearing suits from the 90s. He ages himself so much with that crap.

by Anonymousreply 185September 12, 2022 1:03 PM

r133 not just royal protocol but world leaders follow this rule. Michelle Obama mentioned being told to always bring a black outfit when they go anywhere just incase something happens that requires them to go into mourning. I am sure Meghan follows that rule considering the Queen's age and health. She also has a home in London that likely has some clothes for her and Harry when needed. I keep some clothes at my parent's house.

by Anonymousreply 186September 12, 2022 1:11 PM

r170 in what world would Charles need to negotiate with Andrew at all? The government would easily agree to replace Andrew and maybe Harry as CoS for the York girls (or at least Andrew with the sister living in the UK). Charles holds Andrew's allowance in his pocket. There is nothing to negotiate. If Andrew wants to continue to get a royal allowance he will do what King Charles commands.

Charles can also banish him from public royal event with a simple sentence. So no, I don't see much leverage from Andrew's end to negotiate shit.

by Anonymousreply 187September 12, 2022 1:19 PM

Sophie is still a very beautiful woman: if she wants to be elevated after PssofW, she needs to pull it together. It’s amazing her career before bearding was as a PR executive. A face pack to minimize the swelling is in order before she appears in public again. She’s doing the most and needs to reel it in.

Prince Edward needs a makeover. His late father wore more modern suits than he does. His country gentleman shtick needs to be retired; it’s bothersome and we know he wants to dazzle in the lights (within reason).

by Anonymousreply 188September 12, 2022 1:28 PM

Andrew has the same leverage on Charles that Harry does - insider knowledge about the family. Andrew’s other methods of securing funds have now been exposed and cut off (using Fergie to broker deals, using his Pitch2Palace bullshit to trade honors for cash). So if Charles wants him to stay discreet, Charles will have to pay.

by Anonymousreply 189September 12, 2022 1:31 PM

If Andrew wants leverage, he can just go visit his old pal Ghislaine in prison. Or even suggest it.

by Anonymousreply 190September 12, 2022 1:41 PM

I thought Sophie looked better in the most recent picture of her comforting Anne. She & Edward kind of have the "country squire" thing going - leaving the glitz to the A Team - so I guess it's hard to turn that on & off.

For most of us, our elderly relatives tend to live in retirement homes & aren't really part of our day to day lives whereas it sounded as if she was a force right up to the very end. So I guess that might explain the shock that a 90+ old woman just died.

by Anonymousreply 191September 12, 2022 1:51 PM

r189 Andrew doesn't have the same leverage that Harry has. Harry is Charles' son. If lives were on the line and Charles had to save harry or Andrew, I doubt he'd need much time to choose his son. A parent's bond is always stronger than that of a sibling. I'm sure Charles loves both of them, but Harry is his son so he will always have that paternal sway and look out for his boy, as a parent should.

So, I don't find them comparable when it comes to Charles affection or relationship.

by Anonymousreply 192September 12, 2022 1:56 PM

Absolutely. Their lives all ultimately revolved around her. Having the security of what sounds like a decent enough family matriarch (let alone a Queen) would be a hard hit and a difficult void to fill after so many many years.

by Anonymousreply 193September 12, 2022 1:57 PM

The lack of black clothing would be less noticed there r198, and certainly she doesn’t need to follow royal protocol if she doesn’t feel like it in the US, but your post did make me chuckle.

by Anonymousreply 196September 12, 2022 2:05 PM

[quote] But I'm irrationally happy to see William and Harry and their wives reunited for this.

They were only united due to the Royal Family getting wind that Harry & MM were going to do their own flower viewing and had alerted the American media to the fact to gain the photos. William promptly issued the invitation for them to accompany him and Kate, as a blocking action against their attention seeking. The Markles can carry on their nonsense in California, but the Windsors weren't having a bar of the corrosive 'alternative royal family' schtick on home turf. And rightly so.

by Anonymousreply 197September 12, 2022 2:08 PM

Is there an actual link for this alert happening that they were going to do their own walk around? I honestly never saw anything of the sort until it was claimed well after the walk around that Harry and Meghan planned to do that on their own but ‘William blocked it by his own invite’

I’m no defender of those two, but, in fairness I never saw any sign that they said were going to do that on their own or all the other claims like “with Netflix cameras”. I think this one is hogwash but I am open to being corrected.

by Anonymousreply 198September 12, 2022 2:14 PM

No, it’s complete fiction made up by the head cases who haunt these threads. It was denied this morning by a Palace source.

by Anonymousreply 199September 12, 2022 2:18 PM

R196. Protocol or not, she looked disrespectfully sloppy

by Anonymousreply 200September 12, 2022 2:24 PM

R199, to be fair to the complete head cases who populate these threads, I think the rumour was propagated by a royal reporter who has very much gone off Harry and Meghan. Most of the royal reporters rein in their snark, but Angela Levin is openly anti-H&M.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 201September 12, 2022 2:38 PM

R192 Of course Harry has the son card to play. But, in the end Andrew has probably more leverage over Charles, just because he is older and therefore knows more family secrets. That is the negotiating. Of course Charles and the government can just remove Andrew from everything and forbid him to attend Royal functions. But, if they do that, Andrew might feel an urgent need to write a tell-all. So, therefore, it is in the best interests of a new King starting his reign to negotiate and keep him as happy and hidden as possible.

by Anonymousreply 202September 12, 2022 2:43 PM

Again r201. That is a tweet after the fact. Where is the supposed American media release alerting that the sussexss were about to do a walk around BEFORE it happened.

by Anonymousreply 203September 12, 2022 2:45 PM

Hilarious to think of Andrew negotiating his ability to wear his military uniform down to the event - fine, you can wear it for this but not that!

by Anonymousreply 204September 12, 2022 2:46 PM

There was no media release. It happened via Twitter: someone associated with the American press casually mentioned that the MM team had quietly alerted some favoured US media channels to a solo walkabout.

by Anonymousreply 205September 12, 2022 2:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 213September 12, 2022 10:26 PM

Now that William and Kate have been elevated to Prince and Princess of Wales, will they move out of their expensive/extensively remodeled apartment at Kensington Palace.

Since Charles and Camilla will be forced to leave their beloved Clarence House (also extensively renovated) and move to Buckingham Palace, will Wills and Kate be offered Clarence House?

by Anonymousreply 214September 12, 2022 10:26 PM

[quote]Surely they'd be grandfathered into whatever changes Chuck makes.

I wouldn't be so sure. The new streamlined Royal family has been planned for a long time to take effect after the death of Elizabeth - along with substantial cuts to the Civil Lists and other expenses associated with the BRF.

And it's not entirely up to Charles - it's all part of the plan a bigger plan to save the Royals from further calls to end the Monarchy all together, and it's been in the works for years.

Of course, the Kents and the Gloucesters have plenty of assets to live comfortably, but their incomes and other benefits will be reduced going forward.

by Anonymousreply 215September 12, 2022 10:33 PM

^ Thank God, Princess Marina is gone - she had the most wonderful apartment at Kensington, although she often complained about having Princess Margaret and Snowden for neighbors...the parties, the noise, the constant renovations, etc.

All these new economies would just kill her.

R226 I only said she wasn't a Nazi, not that she was enlightened. Though honestly knowing her, she might have hoped Meghan would see it and want to buy it off her. There is actually a strong global market among wealthy black people to collect kitsch that has been deem racist against blacks. But, they don't seem to collect it to hide away, which is odd. When I worked as a delivery driver, in a Southern US equestrian area, the only homes that still had black lawn jockey's out were black homes. This one dude had them lined up on his balcony like it was the black 21 club.

Whoppi Goldberg has spoken about how she collects Mammy figurines.

R230 Does no one understand nuance anymore. I just said don't blame her for her familial ties to the Nazis because she had no control over them. Anything she has actually done is fair game.

Also, she is well known for constantly chasing money, so what I suggested in R227 isn't outside the realm of possibility. It is well known she has sold her own body numerous times for money, especially to wealthy Texas oil men in the 80s & 90s who wanted to be able to say they fucked a Princess. But, it was a stupid move however she intended it. Because we know such a piece wasn't chosen at random and would of course be seen as racist regardless of intent.

The Queen's body was placed in a massive military plane to be flown God knows where. They are out of their mind asking guest to pretend to be environmentalist while we see the royals, dead and alive, fly from one place to another in jets as if they need to be in a rush considering how long everything is being dragged out.

I hope the VIPs show up in their safe individual cars and planes as a fuck you to the UK for trying to cover for their broke governments inability to manage additional aviation and security demands for their own event.

by Anonymousreply 247September 13, 2022 1:39 PM

r221 in what world is that funny? You do know that Kate and Sophie also wear extensions (which are no different than weaves)? Wealthy women of means tend to wear additional hair because few have a full head of hair and can use a little help. Kate wears pieces from time to time to add fullness, camera has caught it, and Sophie with her struggle bun really gets help. The York girls have also worn hair pieces to royal events.

So, why are you picking on Meghan for something most women in the spotlight do? Nothing wrong with weaves or hair pieces.

An explanation of the rule requiring Royals to pack black clothing whenever they travel:

Lady Pamela Hicks, a lady-in-waiting to the late queen, recently revealed on a podcast that when Elizabeth’s father died suddenly while she was on a 1952 trip to Kenya, the future monarch had neglected to bring black clothing with her.

As a result, Hicks said, Elizabeth II had to wait in her plane after it touched back down in the U.K. for a black outfit to be brought to her, so she wouldn’t be seen arriving in an inappropriate ensemble.

“A black dress was quickly smuggled on board, because we didn’t have a black dress,” Hicks explained. “So she quickly had to change.”

by Anonymousreply 300September 14, 2022 5:01 PM

Allowing Prince Andrew to wear his military uniform for the vigil at Westminster Hall, while banning Prince Harry from wearing any military uniform - Harry severed in the Royal Army for 10 years - is another example of Charles' tone deafness...

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 301September 14, 2022 5:06 PM

Actually, R301, Harry was indeed “severed” from his military role because he couldn’t pass the test to be advanced in rank to Major and so had to leave the Army.

Andrew served a sufficient period of time (20 years in the States, no idea how long in the UK) as an officer to retire from the Navy and get a pension.

There’s a difference between serving and serving long enough to retire.

by Anonymousreply 302September 14, 2022 6:38 PM

So the quick on the drawn DM pointed out that Harry didn't salute the War Memorial when the other royals did. Is he going to get pilloried for that?

by Anonymousreply 303September 14, 2022 6:40 PM

"If I were Meghan, I'd go for the gusto. I'd wear full Victorian mourning, then, throw myself on the coffin."

by Anonymousreply 304September 14, 2022 8:16 PM

I am LOVING Princess Anne in all of this! First she looked after her dying mum like a good daughter, then she put on her military uniform and marched and vigiled like a good son!

A good butch women or femme man will DO IT ALL, they'll tackle the "man's work" and "woman's work" and do it well, and never let themselves be limited by gender-based expectations. The world would be a better place, if we were all butch women and femme men.

by Anonymousreply 305September 14, 2022 8:20 PM

Well, I got it somewhat right: Kate wore those same pearl and diamond earrings that were once on permanent loan to Diana, and are now on permanent loan to Kate, along with the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara.

Wrong on wearing "all that" would have been crass. She wore the enormous pearl and diamond brooch and the earrings, and it was fine. She's tall enough not to look overdressed in these things.

The two-strand pearl necklace is quite long, opera length I think they call it, so it would have been quite demure enough with the earrings and a brooch relieving the stark of the black.

But to see them one needs to wear something that opens in front. It wouldn't do on the outside of a coatdress like the one Kate wore today.

So, alas, I suspect we will not see them on Monday.

One notes that Meghan's black was completely unrelieved, because no one offered her a necklace or brooch with which to finish off her ensemble.

If she hadn't made enemies of them, she could have requested and I'm sure they would have been glad to loan her something. That they didn't tells you something.

And, of course, she had to hustle and order up some mourning clothes from the shops at home.

Harry: I'm not spending money on a diamond brooch so you can look like the other bitches.

Meghan: Well, then don't complain when the Mail photos come out and I look like the maid.

Harry: That's a microagression.

Meghan: That's the fucking truth.

I got a better look at Kate's brooch, it appeared to be silver or platinum, with three huge pearls and no sparkle. If there were diamonds, they were pave, not big stones.

I don't think I loved the brooch, but if one wears jewelry to a funeral, it should be jewelry with sentimental value. Reportedly the big three-pearl brooch was a gift from the Queen, so wearing it without any other jewelry nearby looked fine. And Kate has another week of funerary events to get through, she can't wear the best pieces this early in the game...

OOf forgot DL hate DM links ^. Anyway my comment was about Sophie's tragic outfit. Like, I don't think I've ever seen a "senior royal" wear something so bad to such a big event. People want to talk about Meghan, who looked fine, but let's talk about Sophie who had no jewelry loaned to her and clearly no money for a new dress. She must have stolen this from the palace attic in a trunk marked "1920s housekeeper".

She looks like a cross between Mrs. Hughs and O'Bryan from 'Downton'. Her gay husband must hate her and the kids cause they all look a mess at every single event.

Sophie looks like the poor cousin that has to take vows at the local convent to make sure she gets “three hots & a cot”.

Is this her attempt at proving her devotion? Looking like she sews her clothing by hand? Is rationing still in effect in the UK or just in the Wessex household?

by Anonymousreply 329September 14, 2022 11:19 PM

Sophie's outfit looks like something a nun would wear (except for the belt and heels). She just needs some type of head gear and a larger cross on that chain.

Sophie's hair: looks like the gray roots are growing out (look at the part on the top of her head). She's got on eye makeup, but some lip color would look nice.

Also, let's face it, she's thick in the middle. If she's going to use a belt, it should have been a medium-width to thick belt. Skinny / narrow belts around a thick middle look mismatched.

Her hat, in comparison to Camilla, Kate, and Meghan, was too plain.

That said, she seems like a solid member of the family.

by Anonymousreply 330September 14, 2022 11:38 PM

r33o she seems like a poor distant relative, not a senior level princess. I don't get why she allows herself out in public like this. Perhaps Queen Camilla or Princes Kate can up the standards for working royals.

by Anonymousreply 332September 14, 2022 11:46 PM

Yes, I do think Kate has an eating disorder. I still think she looks good and I like her style. She could wear more looser-fitting stuff (and belted, even) and still look slim. She always wears form-fitting (through the waist) outfits. She knows that her eyes, thick hair, and small waist are her good features, but she can change things up a bit. I guess Sophie forgot that she’s technically auditioning for the role of Duchess of Edinburgh.

By the looks of it, there isn’t going to be a callback.

She’s married to the (allegedly) closeted, theatrical son of a Queen and he lets her come out looking like a domestic, while he’s dressed like a 3rd world dictator in his military finery. Do they even live in the same house?

Zara Tindall is wearing what looks like a man’s sport watch. It seems like a very odd choice. Was she doing some kind of promotional think for Rolex at one point? I have that idea in my head, but it could be nonsense. Anyway, does anyone why why the odd choice of watch? Maybe she only has one watch and didn’t want to risk being photographed pulling out her phone to check the time?

by Anonymousreply 339September 15, 2022 12:40 AM

Zara’s not exactly femme - I’ve only ever seen her wear that watch.

by Anonymousreply 340September 15, 2022 12:43 AM

I can't really see Rolex choosing a minor dykey Royal like Zara as a paid spokesperson.

by Anonymousreply 341September 15, 2022 1:26 AM

It was probably a gift from her secret girlfriend on the LPGA tour.

by Anonymousreply 342September 15, 2022 1:27 AM

R341 That minor dykey royal is also one of the world’s best and most famous horse riders - she has a slew of sponsorships as a result of her achievements. And her royal adjacency doesn’t hurt, I’m sure.

Actually, I think Catherine, Sophie and Meghan will all be very tastefully attired. If Camilla stays out of sight for a few days and gets som cosmetic assistance her face will look fine by Monday, and she may wear something simple on her head. I think we can count on Beatrice and her Italian Husband to come through with some kind of fashion Faux Pas. Eugenie will follow close behind. Most members of the extended family will not go too far. Hopefully most people will understand that this is not one of those occasions where one wants to be seen. But is one a true somber sadness and sober reflection. Respect, reverence, etc. The good news is that Camilla now will have the services of a dresser and ladies in waiting ....of her choosing, but this will help her. A lot. And do not think for a moment that Catherine does it alone. She has dressers and people who tell her which jewelry to wear, etc.

by Anonymousreply 349September 15, 2022 4:39 AM

I think Meghan has been hitting the right tone. I hope she doesn't fuck up and wear some atrocious Alexis Carrington on Dynasty type thing Monday. I wonder who from Diana's f amily will be there. And I didn't see any Middletons today. They will be out in force Monday.

by Anonymousreply 350September 15, 2022 4:42 AM

Did she tell you that, R351?

by Anonymousreply 352September 15, 2022 4:48 AM

R349 Beatrice’s Italian husband is English. Since their marriage her style has really improved, presumably under his influence. He’s always beautifully dressed - but not too well, if you know what I mean.

There's only so much you can do with cosmetics. Also, I'm sure she already had lots of help with her hair and wardrobe. She's not going to suddenly turn into a style icon. She's doing the best she can, already, apparently.

"Zara Tindall is wearing what looks like a man’s sport watch."

Well she's far more feminine than her mother, who's been wearing men's military uniforms! Which is rather awesome of Anne, she marched behind the coffin with the men, while the other ladies took cars because their heels made a one-mile walk impossible.

As for Camilla, she's already doing the best she can, she knows what cuts and colors work for her and her figure. It's quite a nice figure for a woman in her seventies, but not the sort of figures that the major designers are used to working with.

by Anonymousreply 357September 15, 2022 7:27 AM

r349 arguable Prince Charles had nearly as much petty cash on hand as the Queen or at least more than enough considering the size of the prince's trust. All this to say that Camilla already had access to dress makers, stylist, and the works. Charles just gave notice to 100+ staff, neither the former Prince of Wales or Princes of Wales were hurting for help in any area. Camilla dresses this way because this is her style. She's always been frumpy, but the tend to do a good job with her royal event clothes. Not sure why her dress was so short yesterday but she's the damn Queen now so she can do as she pleases.

Don't forget, the former Queen was a huge frump from the 80s to late-90s. Thankfully, she changed up her stylist in the late 90s and threw off the heavy dull looks that dominated her wardrobe in the Diana-era for more light, bright, and maybe even fun grandma styles.

by Anonymousreply 358September 15, 2022 8:51 AM

Camilla, Sophie, Anne, and Lady Sarah are all aging naturally without surgical intervention/assistance, which is considered somewhat common (it shows one is trying too hard). Kate and Meghan are different in this respect, but are also from a younger generation where it’s much more accepted, and they have much more of a spotlight to deal with. If she had lived, I think Diana would have gone the assistance route as well - it’s hard to age when you’re a famed beauty in your youth (one thing Camilla doesn’t have to deal with).

Zara has a very athletic shape, unlike her mother (although as someone said above, her mother is an athlete), but Zara does try to dress very femininely, with ruffles, florals, pinks, etc, it’s just that her clothes don’t usually fit properly. Like Sophie, she seems to be trying to squeeze into the smallest size that will zip. Zara would actually look great in Meghan’s more monochrome, severe styles.

by Anonymousreply 359September 15, 2022 12:36 PM

R353 I agree, Beatrice is looking much more stylish since she married, she is also noticeably slimmer.

She'll probably be reading on her phone during the service.

by Anonymousreply 364September 15, 2022 8:27 PM

Sophies’s dress at the procession was Celine. I can see it now as Celine can have some frumpy styles if a non-model wears them. I hope her funeral outfit is better. She looked Amish yesterday. Which is fine - if you’re Amish.

She sprung for a new outfit (wisely, in separates) and she looks slimmer.

Points off for the metal cane: dark canes are available and she’s had more than enough time to spray paint this one if she didn’t have money left over after buying this outfit.

I was wrong: she didn’t dye her Chanel but maybe found a deal at the consignment shop. We salute HRH for doing her bit for the environment!

by Anonymousreply 372September 15, 2022 10:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 374September 15, 2022 10:47 PM

That brooch Kate wore is set with three large pearls that I think were a gift from the people of South Korea, and the Queen had leant it Kate on prior occasions, as well as wearing it herself. I don't think it was too much, because Kate is tall enough so that the expanse of black could carry it. The only other jewellery were her earrings and wedding/engagement rings.

But I do hope she wears the Wales brooch Monday.

God, do you know what the coronation is going to look like?! That's always been a gown and tiara (and not just for the ladies, for all the peers and nobility - not to mention the King), Ermine trimmed red velvet cloaks for days . . .

DL will totally implode.

by Anonymousreply 375September 16, 2022 12:44 AM

IMO, that was kind of an ugly brooch.

by Anonymousreply 376September 16, 2022 12:49 AM

R365 If you look at Edward and Sophie, most of the time, I think they purposely cultivate an old-fashioned frumpy aesthetic. They children seem to have inherited it from them. It is like they know their place in the pecking order is low so they are just going to keep their heads down and work without stealing focus. Their son does look like he will have at least that short window of attractiveness his father had, I hope he has fun and fills the tabloids. He and Lady Louise are the perfect age to attract youthful press coverage until George, etc... grow up, much the way Princess Margaret's press dominance gave way to Charles, Anne, Andrew, and then their spouses, etc...

Princess Michael looks frail and while I know she is neither well liked in the family or in public I do wonder if she will get a big send off, if for no other reason than it is rare for Westminster Cathedral to get the chance to host a Royal Catholic funeral. Nothing like this of course, just better than would be expected for the average person.

by Anonymousreply 377September 16, 2022 1:45 AM

R377 "Their" not they, I do not talk like that, y'all.

by Anonymousreply 378September 16, 2022 1:47 AM

R377 there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell princess Michael would ever get a Westminster abbey funeral. She’s a minor royal at best. Aside from a hundred other reasons I don’t feel like typing out.

by Anonymousreply 379September 16, 2022 1:50 AM

Westminster Cathedral is a Catholic Church and a different building from Westminster Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 380September 16, 2022 1:53 AM

R379 Not Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral. It is the Catholic cathedral. Because it is rare for there to be a Catholic royal, I just wonder if the Catholic Church might host one for her just because they rarely get the opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 381September 16, 2022 1:53 AM

Either way, the family and nation won't spend much on Princess Michael's funeral. Considering she whored herself out to a TX billionaire in the 80s for cash, I don't think she's well liked by the family. At least when Charles or Andrew whored themselves, they got to keep their clothes on.

by Anonymousreply 382September 16, 2022 2:20 AM

Will Princess Anne take off her military uniform and wear a dress for the actual funeral? Or will she continue to let her butch flag fly high?

by Anonymousreply 383September 16, 2022 2:36 AM

So now the palace has reversed course on Harry wearing a uniform for one event. He can wear it to Sat's vigil when they stand guard but still not at Monday's funeral. But all week the palace said there is precedence they are following and a retired military man shouldn't be in uniform, so what's changed?

Personally, I'm glad they are making this exception. I think the RF should just give Harry one of his honorary titles back so when he's invited to these "must attend" family gatherings the uniform debate is over. He served two tours in active duty, so this will continue to be an unnecessary PR battle for the RF.

Just toss him a title and be done with the stupid drama.

Props to Harry for his statement yesterday basically saying his service has nothing to do with what he wears and asking everyone to drop it and focus on his grandmother. Really felt his love for his grandmother. I think he doesn't care and just wants all of this to be over since funeral seem to being him back to his mother's death. Good job King Charles for bending a bit here.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 384September 16, 2022 2:50 AM

R384 What changed was that they decided to make an exception for Andrew that night, and people pointed out then you really should for Harry, as well. Especially since the two of them are the only ones, out of the family, who truly earned the right to wear a uniform.

They should just let both wear them to the funeral if the others do. Regardless of their actions outside of the service, it is a slap in the face to the fighting men in uniform.

by Anonymousreply 385September 16, 2022 2:56 AM

There will be no more farting in close quarters.

Have. I. Made. Myself. Clear.

Beatrice?

by Anonymousreply 386September 16, 2022 3:02 AM

I agree r385 but the difference us that Andrew is still like a Commander in the Navy or something, the Queen and King refused to strip him of that honorary title. Harry has no honorary titles so it's odd that they will let him be in uniform since Royal mouthpieces kept saying all week that if you are not active duty you don't/can't wear a uniform. Harry is retired from the service and his honorary titles were taken from him so while the RF is doing the right thing, they sound like hypocrites.

As I said, the easiest solution is to just give him one of his honors back and be done with the drama. Punishing him or whatever they call this is just not helping them and making them twist themselves into a pretzel because they are sometimes bound by the court of public opinion.

If the public can accept Camilla as Queen then they will accept an honorary military title for Harry.

by Anonymousreply 387September 16, 2022 3:14 AM

R387 I didn't realize Andrew still had one. But, yes give Harry back one, it shouldn't really matter that he lives in the US now, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is the Colonel-in-Chief The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, and I think there are a few others.

by Anonymousreply 388September 16, 2022 3:21 AM

He does not still have an honorary title.

by Anonymousreply 389September 16, 2022 4:17 AM

Harry and Andrew served. They finished serving and went on to non military life. No former military peeps anywhere can wear their uinform once they leave.

They can however wear their medals etc.

AND:

The monarchy bestows ceremonial honour positions to members of the brf etc. THOSE are the military uniforms you see on Anne etc etc and they are not based on serving.

Andrew lost those ceremonial positions due to his controversy. So wearing them know is not allowed (though as we learn they are /did bending the rules for the vigil by her coffin) for Andrew. Incidentally ther would be some people inthe military that won’t be happy about this little exception they are making as they view Andrew as a huge embarrassment not fit to represent the honour. I’m sure they are keeping quiet out of respect for the queen and new king.

Harry was the exact same situation as Andrew but he lost his ceremonial honours and duties as part of the deal when he hopscotched over to the USA to build a new life. You can’t wear a ceremonial outfit when you’ve given back your ceremonial role. But again an exception is being made for the upcoming coffin vigil.

That’s it! Stop bleating in about him/them being former soldiers who should be allowed. They aren’t the same thing as a ceremonial role.

And when you look at it that way, they are both spoiled brats for still pushing to wear the uniforms . They are nothing more than costumes now in this case and an insult to the branches of the military by wearing them when they no longer even have those roles anymore.

by Anonymousreply 390September 16, 2022 4:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 398September 16, 2022 1:14 PM

[quote]Regardless of their actions outside of the service, it is a slap in the face to the fighting men in uniform.

In fact, when the Queen was hesitating, it was pressure from the military that made her agree to take away Andrew's honorary military roles. Those under his "command" didn't want him as a representative after the Epstein story broke. In this situation they will probably understand the complicated politics of keeping the peace for the burial of the Queen, but otherwise they would be annoyed he WAS wearing his uniform. I doubt anyone cares what Harry does.

by Anonymousreply 399September 16, 2022 1:17 PM

The veils worn at George VI's funeral were by his mother, wife, and daughters.

In this case, there is no widow and only one daughter. In reality only Camilla, as the King's wife, and Anne, could appropriately wear one. I think it would be inappropriate on Kate, Sophie, Meghan, the York girls, Lady Louise. They are spouses and grandchildren.

That doesn't mean it won't happen, especially Kate and Sophie, but I think we will see on these two (and naturally Meghan will take full advantage of any opportunity to gull on theatrical) hats with full face net veils instead.

Eugenie looked awful, fat and squeezed into something boxy, and looked blowzy abd frumpy, like her mother always does. Bea is looking much improved, yet again.

by Anonymousreply 400September 16, 2022 1:19 PM

r396 I think it's because of money problems. Those two know they are popular enough to be photographed and compared to Kate so they are trying to look nice, but must also avoid looking like they buy off the rack, despite only being able to buy off the rack. Dad is constantly overspending so the girls allowance is probably not that great. They didn't marry into serious money so they are probably always treading water and playing catch up for these events. Add in the changes to one's body after pregnancy and the stress of your father becoming the most hated royal and you get bad looks.

by Anonymousreply 407September 16, 2022 2:51 PM

r399 loads of Brits care what Harry does and even more royal obsessed Americans. One faction wont care, the normal people. Another faction will praise the decisions, Harry and Meghan fans. Then there is loud minority that would dance in the streets if Harry and Meghan were stripped naked and forced to do a Game of Thrones walk of shame for criticizing the RF. Those are the people that spread a rumor that Meghan was wearing a mic pack during the fab four's Windsor walk about. Or the people that claimed, without evidence, that she wanted to bring Netflix camera crew to Balmoral the day the Queen died.

Loads of people care about Harry for better and for worse. Harry and Meghan dominate royal media coverage in the UK because it get's clicks.

They wouldn't be as fancy as the others, but I say just let the two of them wear the uniform that corresponds to their last actual rank in the service when they left active duty.

Kate today out on Pirbright to greet Commonwealth soldiers arriving to take part, in a gorgeous hat, hair up, and unless I'm misremembering, those pearl and diamond earrings were also the Queen's, and were also worn by her grandmother, Queen Mary, although the Queen Mother didn't wear them.

It must be true, then, Kate is coming into a fortune in the Queen's private jewellery.

This is what you get, Meghan, when you play ball.

by Anonymousreply 420September 16, 2022 4:16 PM

Oh please r419. Any PM would be jumping for joy to have this happen their first week. Not because they hate the Queen or anything but because it's so easy to garner good will and look like a leader during this time of hardship. All she has to do is give a couple of speeches and look sad in black. That's it. But this is actually good because her brand new government just got 2 extra weeks to get their shit together, without opposition or media criticism since "politics has been suspended" till the funeral.

If Truss can't handle a slam dunk PR win like a royal funeral then she ain't cut out to be in politics. Boris is the only one kicking himself for not making things drag on one more week to remain in power a tad bit longer and end on a good note (his speech about the Queen was very well done).

by Anonymousreply 421September 16, 2022 4:18 PM

The earrings Kate is wearing today were a long-ago gift from the Queen, not anything that she received recently.

by Anonymousreply 422September 16, 2022 4:20 PM

r420 again, can you stop with this nonsense that Meghan lost out on the family loot? Those jewels were always going to go to the future Queen. Sophie and Anne have put in more time than Kate without stepping out of line. They too didn't get the jewels and neither would Meghan in a hypothetical reality. This is not a normal family division of assets, these are royal jewls. Camilla got slighted cause she is still a divorcée and former mistress.

by Anonymousreply 423September 16, 2022 4:21 PM

^jewels.

by Anonymousreply 424September 16, 2022 4:22 PM

R421 Except Truss really needed to hit the ground running with her ideas. The emergency energy policy, especially, has to be passed quickly if there is any hope of success. And, though she won, her party isn't united and will not give her a long honeymoon period. I'm sure she would've preferred not to have had this happen this soon. Maybe another week, later, when she was having problems but not the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 425September 16, 2022 4:24 PM

R435 All these overblown discussions of who gets or doesn’t get the jewels are unrealistic, both because that’s not the way these kind of bequests operate, and because they fail to take into account the many women (like Lady Sarah Chatto) who are less famous but also much closer to the Queen than Kate or Camilla. It’s almost certain the Queen passed many of her personal jewels into the Crown collection and made provisions for others privately rather than pass them through a will. But don’t try telling that to the audience who wants everything to be a cage match between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.

by Anonymousreply 426September 16, 2022 4:27 PM

Eh, this gave her party time to unite and the energy police can be passed next week. I still think you need time to get things together so 2 additional weeks to look over things and twist arms is a boon for a new PM, especially a weak PM. She can take partial credit for running a smooth funeral for the Queen showing off the pageantry that the UK is known for.

I'd still say this is a net boon for her. But she needs to work on her walk and curtsey. Don't care if it sounds sexist, both were tragic and she's going to be doing a lot of that if she remains PM.

by Anonymousreply 427September 16, 2022 4:30 PM

R426 Also, just because one person gets the jewels doesn't mean they are the only ones to wear them. Whomever controls the jewels are expected to lend them to other family members for events. Every time there was an event the media was always saying Princess So&So wearing a tiara and broach loaned by The Queen, etc...

by Anonymousreply 428September 16, 2022 4:32 PM

Not crazy about Kate's flying saucer hat here, but otherwise she looks nice.

And she's not over-accessorized for once.

by Anonymousreply 429September 16, 2022 6:30 PM

R422 She has never been seen in those earrings before, in my memory. Those are earrings the Queen, and her grandmother, wore all the time. If this is the first time Kate is wearing them in 11 years, it means that the Queen set things out well before she passed, and Kate knows what she can dip into now.

Flying saucer hat? That hat is fucking gorgeous. Get your eyes checked.

by Anonymousreply 430September 16, 2022 6:54 PM

^^The remark about the hat was for R429

by Anonymousreply 431September 16, 2022 6:55 PM

R429 - I don't know what you've been looking at, but one thing Kate rarely is over-accessorised. Her jewellery is minimal. If anything is off about that outfit, it's the bloody buttons, one of Kate's few predilections, along with above the elbow sleeves in shirtwaist-type dresses, that I deplore.

And I note she is out of the stilettos in and into chunkier heeled shoes today. She probably needs them after the last few days.

Yes, Kate does have on chunkier heels. I like the chunkier heels better than the normal stiletto.

by Anonymousreply 435September 16, 2022 7:05 PM

I think Kate looked good. A military-style coat, sleek updo and a well-perched hat…stellar. Just noticed the little handbag.

It’s good to see her with a chunkier heel for once but I think a stiletto would have been the better sartorial choice but sometimes comfort comes first.

It’s funny the royal Duchesses seem partial to BBs.

by Anonymousreply 436September 16, 2022 7:15 PM

The stiletto was just boring, IMO. It's the exact same shoe in a couple of different colors. Why not take the opportunity to wear something different (shoes)? Even if she wants to wear very high heels, there are so many more choices out there. She's also tall and could wear heels slightly lower.

Kate's still wearing too much dark cheek makeup.

by Anonymousreply 437September 16, 2022 7:20 PM

You're mad r437. One of the York sisters wore a different shoe and was labeled a hooker. Best to keep things plane and simple. I prefer the stilettos Kate usually wears because goes along with her nearly un-obtainable style. She is style goals for many women whose hairs isn't perfect when the walk out the door, like Kate's. Whose outfits aren't perfectly tailored, like Kate's. Who aren't crazy thin yet athletic looking, like Kate. Who can't get through a day in heels, none the less 6" pumps, like Kate. Now we know Kate isn't working for 8-12 hours like normal women, but she's still an ideal. Ideals are what the monarchy is supposed to be about.

So rock on with those Melania style pumps Kate. Personally, I find them fabulous, but I just know her toes must cry when she gets home. Think of the Queen and keep going.

Finally, all the young princess and Queens are wearing these pumps. It's become a royal standards for senior royal women under the age of 50.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 438September 16, 2022 7:32 PM

R437, I agree. I love stilettos and have the opportunity to try various styles/brands/designs. No one is going to give me grief about daring styles or on how much I spend.

The royal women are limited to more simple styles so there aren’t screams of being ostentatious. It’s why they likely latch onto the BB: various heights, material choices and colors; they’re also comfortable (as far as stilettos go).

I think Kate made an interesting choice with this particular pump; a bit outside her wheelhouse but it’s a cute design. As for her makeup: is she still doing it herself? She needs to delegate.

by Anonymousreply 439September 16, 2022 7:35 PM

R439, what is the "BB"?

by Anonymousreply 440September 16, 2022 8:23 PM

She was doing her own makeup r439? I just don't believe that for a second. That's like when the Cambridges said they were moving into a small economical home (mansion) without live in staff (well Windsor castle is next door so the staff must live there and work in shifts at their home). I'd be very interested to know William and Kate's staff count. Charles & Camilla had over 100. How many do the current Prince and Princess of Wales have? No shade either way but who would want to do their own makeup and hair when you can hire out and get it right.

by Anonymousreply 441September 16, 2022 8:29 PM

Sorry, R440: I’m referring to the Manolo Blahnik BB; it’s one of his most popular designs. Kate and Meghan must have part ownership in the company the way they rock the style but, for a stiletto, it’s much more forgiving on the feet.

R441: Kate did her own makeup for her wedding; nothing seems to have changed in terms of amateur vs professional in terms of technique for the day-to-day events.

by Anonymousreply 442September 16, 2022 9:15 PM

[quote] Who aren't crazy thin yet athletic looking, like Kate.

Kate is crazy thin. I do think she has an eating disorder.

by Anonymousreply 443September 16, 2022 9:24 PM

r443 I too think that girl is throwing up her feelings or just not eating, but I was trying to be kind. To her credit, food in the royal household always sounds dreadful and unseasoned. At least with Liz in the ground, the new King will be able to introduce better dishes at royal family gatherings.

I do wonder if they will ever be forced to acknowledge Kate's "selective relationship" with food.

^ It's not only too big and flamboyant for mourning, but it kind of looks as if it's about to fly off her head.

by Anonymousreply 447September 17, 2022 12:02 AM

You know, lots of men marry their mothers, and William's mother had an eating disorder, so...

I really hope Kate doesn't have one, but I would not be surprised at all if she does. I think most women in the public eye have tremendous pressure to stay thin. Totally unreasonable.

by Anonymousreply 448September 17, 2022 12:27 AM

Kate is naturally tall and lean with narrow hips, but yeah, there's a fine line between watching one's weight and a full-blown eating disorder, and I don't know if she's permanently over that line.

I expect she's at least temporarily over the line right now, whether she's got a full-time eating disorder or not. Huge stress, whole family gathered to fight over titles and perks, constant glare of publicity, new house, new job, new responsibilities, Charles fucking it up and threatening to blow the gig... I like food myself, but there have been times when even I stopped eating because of sheer stress, and she's probably not the only one in the royal family who's getting more calories from alcohol than food right now. And all the unrelieved slimming black only makes matters look worse...

R505 This isn't a state banquet. It's a reception with people mingling, more like a very high-grade cocktail party, a meet and greet the Great and the Good (and in some cases, the Not So Good) and interact personally with them, as after the funeral they're all blowing town as fast as possible.

It will be extremely dressy after dinner wear. You don't wear a tiara with a dress. You wear it with a gown, preferably with a sash with the family orders pinned on.

This reception will not be about gowns. No gown, no family orders, no sash=no tiara.

You will just have to wait until November when Parliament opens.

I agree that it's probably true, and if so, then she's found a station in life where it's totally okay for her to be a strategic, calculating, cold-blooded queen bee! Better that she should use her talents in a royal setting, than in an office with any of us!

Meghan was a fool to make an enemy of her, instead of keeping the peace and learning from an expert. The new Princess of Wales is possibly the greatest social climber of the 21st century, and she's someone who has achieved everything Meg ever hoped to achieve, even the acting! Obviously, she's playing the part of the Perfect Modern Princess in her public appearances, not being herself, and that's a better job of acting than Meg ever did.

by Anonymousreply 532September 18, 2022 11:04 AM

R530 Ah, just we thought. This isnt about Kate, it's about Meghan.

You should have left the word racism out, you blew your cover.

Sweetie you've got hate and racism coming out of your eyeballs.

Kate isn't there to parade her complexity, she's there to represent an institution and a country.

You can't stand the fact that the white girl grasped that it isn't about her, whilst the mixed race girl couldn't stop making it all about her, and so flunked Princess 101.

Yes, we got Meghan's "complexity" and "humanness" all right. She NEVER shuts up about herself. She's lied, smeared, perjured herself in court, threatened, and put the boot into a 95 year old woman at the bedside of a dying husband.

The truth is, you're enraged that Kate's quiet dignity throws such a bad light on that endlessly self-promoting bitch.

Yeah, you didn't see Kate in the middle of the poorest country in the world weeping about how no one asks her if she's ok.

The British hate whingers and braggarts.

Meghan is both. She got the response she deserved.

As has Kate.

Eat it. And you're blocked.

by Anonymousreply 533September 18, 2022 12:23 PM

Word for word with, r531 and r532 and so entertaining to read, too.

"Babe Paley had one flaw, she was perfect. Other than that, she was perfect" are the words Truman Capote said of Paley and to my mind, they apply to the new Catherine, Princess of Wales.

"There is obviously a viciously strategic, cold-blooded tactician and Queen bee bitch buried somewhere underneath the hard candy shell that is Kate"

Indeed, I've always seen that in her resilience to snag her man, but, why see that as a bad thing? I certainly don't.

It's the one thing that saves her from being boringly perfect.

Still, the PoW, is my current best-dressed person alive.

I don't understand, nor take part in comparing Markle to the PoW when it comes to who looks better in their choices of clothing.

It's unfair to any woman, man, non-binary or gender undesignated to compare them to the PoW, most especially Markle.

When you're 5 '9' or 5 '10', 123 pounds at most (and that might be overestimating) with a superb eye for restraint, elegance, and your clothes are custom-fitted....

... game over.

[quote]Better that she should use her talents in a royal setting, than in an office with any of us!

Kate would totally be an HR manager, talking about inclusivity and teambuilding while giving the side eye to the office fatties and questionably attired IT people. So you're right, let her judge us (while we judge her!) from afar rather than up close!

by Anonymousreply 543September 18, 2022 5:10 PM

Anne is really letting her butch flag fly awesomely high this week, isn't she R542? When she came out for the London Prince's Vigil there was a moment when I looked at the people around Charles for a woman and didn't see one...

I suppose they'll make her wear a dress for the funeral proper.

by Anonymousreply 544September 18, 2022 7:51 PM

r521 three royal couples held hands as they departed. Stop with the hand holding bullshit. All three of them aren't working royals so it should't matter to you or anyone.

by Anonymousreply 545September 18, 2022 8:13 PM

r532 no social climber can outdo Camilla. That woman kept a Crown prince wrapped around her finger, despite him having at least 2 other women on the side. She also destroyed Princes Diana without a second's thought to that woman's mental and emotional state. Then she get to marry the prince after her husband kicks her to the curb, becoming the second highest lady in the land. Now her mother in law is gone and the she is the Queen of the United Kingdom. She clawed, fought, plotted, and played the LONG game.

Kate's story is more old fashioned. Girl meets prince. Girl makes his desires her entire world hoping for a ring. Girl gets ring. Girl doesn't rock the boat. The end. So many queens princess played this game throughout history. I give her credit but this is nothing new. Old girl in Denmark did the same with their crown prince.

by Anonymousreply 546September 18, 2022 8:22 PM

"[R532] no social climber can outdo Camilla."

I disagree, I think a stewardess's daughter becoming queen is a bit more impressive than someone from a background of gentry with ties to the aristocracy becoming queen.

And see a therapist about your Diana fixation. Seriously, that marriage was doomed from the start, Camilla or no Camilla or 100 other women. Charles wanted to marry a brood mare who didn't care who else he fucked, and like an idiot he picked a teenager with stars in her eyes and strong emotional needs. Anyone could have told him what would happen.

by Anonymousreply 547September 18, 2022 8:50 PM

Agree with r547

And Diana would have been miserable no matter who she married.

by Anonymousreply 548September 18, 2022 9:23 PM

R545, the other royal couples only momentarily held hands. Harry and Meghan hold hands constantly, in a gesture to say "we are so in love, we are a team, it's us against the world!"* Their handholding is deliberate attention-seeking. The way they were holding hands, they were trying to make themselves the centre of attention, as usual, when thoughts should be on the queen.

* Occasionally, Harry clutches onto Meghan to try to keep her under control.

by Anonymousreply 549September 18, 2022 9:26 PM

r547 I don't need a therapist because I point out that Camilla and Charles gleefully threw there affair in Diana's face. Even giving him a blowjob before the wedding and having the never to show her face in that church. I also never said Diana would live happy ever after if not for Camilla. What I said is that Camilla played a very long and complicated game to get to the top. She didn't care who she hurt or what happened as long as she got what she wanted, same for Charles.

Kate is a commoner but it's the modern age, most royal houses have crown princes, crown princesses or monarchs married to commoners. So even if you think a flight attendants daughter becoming queen is a big deal it really matches with William's generation (post-90s royal matches) of royalty and isn't that out of the norm for Europe.

But Camilla's story of divorce, cheating, phone sex, a mistress, a dead former princess, and a mother in law who didn't approve is quite a journey. She got to fuck like a street dog, marry a fuck boy, then marry a prince turned king/head of a church. Camilla is that girl! Kate is pretty and worked her pretty magic and patience to get William. Cool, loads of girls followed that track in European history, nothing new. Both are social climbers but no one was guiding Camilla like Kate was guided by her mother.

I vote Camilla, a one woman heat seeking missile for the throne.

by Anonymousreply 550September 18, 2022 9:47 PM

r549 just stop. In that specific event they arrived separately. Then they stood side by side without touching. Then when it was time to leave the held hands out the door. Same thing the Zara did and one of the York sisters with her husband. All three are non-working royals and all three held hands out the door for the same amount of time as Harry and Meghan. Yes the hold hands more often but you are criticizing them for doing something at an even that other royals were also doing and it's just really lame at this point ti hear the same complaints from you people.

by Anonymousreply 551September 18, 2022 9:50 PM

r550 here forgot to add that Camilla may be from aristocracy but she is NO LOOKER. Meanwhile, Kate is a beautiful woman. This adds another feather in Camilla's hat as the social climber of at least the century.

by Anonymousreply 552September 18, 2022 9:55 PM

Kate is more pretty than beautiful, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 553September 18, 2022 10:06 PM

I don't think Kate is beautiful either, she's moderately good-looking, and is so monumentally stylish that she seems beautiful when she isn't.

Camilla was also moderately good-looking as a young woman, if these pictures are to be believed, and she was apparently fun and sexy.

But I still say Kate is the better social climber, she had further to go.

Camilla has a face as long as a British aircraft carrier in that photo r554. Compared to Camilla, Kate is a supermodel. I think she is beautiful. I also think my girl Camilla is a handsome older woman. But Kate is beautiful and is fighting the good fight to keep up her looks against the test of time. Camilla looks really good with some age on her and the palace hairstylist giving her this blonde look she's been rocking for the past 15 years.

by Anonymousreply 555September 18, 2022 10:13 PM

Kate being "monumentally stylish" is overstating things. She dresses well for her body type. She has a small waist and good calves, I think she could be more creative. She could wear tops or dresses that aren't so fitted on top (chest and ribcage), but then come in at the waist (i.e., belted). It's always the exact, same silhouette.

by Anonymousreply 556September 18, 2022 11:32 PM

As we now know that Princess Charlotte is attending the funeral, the question is, will she be wearing actual hat for the first time, or will it be the black velvet headband?

by Anonymousreply 557September 19, 2022 12:28 AM

Oh lord make this archaic ritual end tomorrow. Please bury her!

by Anonymousreply 558September 19, 2022 12:44 AM

Kate is stylish in a basic way only; to dress truly elegantly or glamorously would intimidate and surprise in a way that is unhelpful to her and William’s bet that acting “just like the public” is necessary for the monarchy to survive.

I know the Princess Royal doesn't think of such things, but, I do.

In the sartorial contest between the senior royal women and grandchildren, she doesn't want to, and can't, compete.

For Anne, you can't beat a military uniform for both appropriateness and, and I mean this in a good way - convenience in removing you from the whole scrutinizing thingy.

by Anonymousreply 578September 19, 2022 12:50 PM

I think she's wearing the uniforms not because she wants to avoid wearing girl clothes, but because she wants to march and stand vigil, instead of retiring to the limos like the ladies who can barely walk from the car to the church in their heels. It's true that she's never given a rat's ass about fashion, but she was always dressed appropriately, but style isn't the important thing here. It's showing the most respect possible to a beloved mother and great queen.

I think the major choker made her look a bit matronly, but otherwise Catherine's look was impeccable.

Meghan looked nice, but the cape and the swoopy hat and the long gloves were too fashiony for a funeral.

I've always had a soft spot for Bea, and Edo is working wonders for her style. She looked great. Euge looked like Mary Poppins in that flat boater-ish hat.

William is a good-looking man and becomes very handsome when he has a hat on.

by Anonymousreply 591September 19, 2022 7:56 PM

Agree with Meghan's cape dress and long gloves. Didnt like it. I thought I was watching Dynasty. I liked the other black dresses she wore in the last few days more. Im also wondering why she didnt add a simple necklace or brooch.

Kate's outfit was nice but personally, I liked what she wore to Philips funeral more.

Will looked like a stud. Harry was shifting his pants and balls and lifting his waistband right as the casket passed him going into St George's. He couldnt wait a few seconds to do that?

R591 You need to learn royal code: that bling wasn't about anything but a message: remember who I AM now. She was drawing a very audible message with that ensemble: I am no longer the denure young ingenue, and no longer a.mere Duchess. I am the Princess of Wales, a Duchess thrice over, and at my father in law's age I could be a Queen next year. And my children here outrank all the best of you. Bringing them was inspired, Charlotte looked adorable, and both children behave impeccably given the long, tiring day.

That's what all that bling was: a message. And a pointed, well done one.

Kate knows what she5about, do not ever underestimate her.

In contrast, Meghan looked like the bad fairy at the christening, especially the gloves, which looked absurd and had bronzer on them after she wiped her crocodile tears with one.

Kate has waited a long time to be able to send this message not just to the world, but to the Yorks and Meghan and Harry: don't fuck with me.

In that sense, the ensemble was magnificent, and magnificently chosen.

by Anonymousreply 594September 19, 2022 10:24 PM

R593, William and he were turned toward the procession. He wasn’t fidgeting. You can see William turning forward right before they showed Harry turning forward.

by Anonymousreply 595September 19, 2022 10:35 PM

Actually, he was fighting. When I looked at the video, I didn’t forward it to 1:11. Still, not a major faux pas from what I could see.
