He is a hot guy.
If Obama wasn’t good looking, would he have been elected?

I don't think he's good looking or hot.

R1, you have failed in your historic mission of slapping down dumb bitches like OP.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 7, 2022 12:02 AM |
Good looking/hot? No but that's an interesting question?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 7, 2022 12:02 AM |
I voted for Joe Biden, not Obama.

Post-war elections where the better looking candidate lost: 2016 (toss up, neither a prize), 2012 (a case to be made for Romney), 1976 (toss up, edge to Ford), 1972, 1948 (toss up, both kinda weasely)

I always thought he was hot, but I think it was his public speaking skills, rather than his looks, that unofficially launched his presidential campaign at the 2004 DNC in Boston and ultimately got him elected in 2008, along with the successful "vote for change" appeal to young first time voters.

If goodlooking were a requirement for winning the presidency:
>Mitt Romney would have won as he is classically handsome and benefitted his entire life from it
>Gerald Ford would have beaten Jimmy Carter (although Jimmy wasn't all that bad looking when he was younger)
>Al Gore was much better looking than Shrub.

He's not repulsive. But good looking? No.

Jimmy Carter was the last president who wasn't photogenic. Looks matter.

I love his smile, voice, and trim bod. 8/10 from me.
I never found Reagan or Clinton even remotely attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 7, 2022 12:25 AM |
R9 So Bush2 and Trump were photogenic? Laugh my ass off.

Um, I think you're forgetting a certain president.

If Obama WEREN'T....
Yes, even a cactus nominated by the Democrats would be elected that year whatsoever.

Being tall is a bigger factor.
19 presidents have been over 6' tall.
Carter and Truman are the shortest presidents in the last 100 years at 5'9.5" and 5'9", respectively.
Poor little James Madison was purported to be only 5'4".

No.
He's good looking enough and charming and fit. Absent any of those, Hillary would have gotten the nomination.
And Hillary would have lost to war hero John McCain because:
1) America wasn't (still isn't) ready for a female president
2) The military complex would have moved heaven and earth to get the more hawkish McCain into office
And he would have gotten re-elected and possibly died in office...
...leaving us with President Caribou Barbie...

Obama's win in 2008 was not a sure thing. The race was close until October 2008, when the economy collapsed and pushed Obama over the top.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 7, 2022 12:50 AM |
The Republicans ran the economy straight down the shitter in 2008, who would still vote for their presidential candidate? Probably the 39% Repugtard voters?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 7, 2022 12:50 AM |
In 2008 Obama appealed to younger voters in a way none of the other candidates did.

Jimmy Carter didn't just have unattractive features, he had a woman's face and a weak, effeminate voice. Sent the wrong message to the world.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 7, 2022 12:54 AM |
R15 That’s still a much better scenario than our current situation. Palin, regardless of how ridiculous she was, would still have been a much less destructive president than Trump. Then in 2016 it would most likely have been Palin vs . Hillary with a Hillary victory.

[quote] The race was close until October 2008, when the economy collapsed and pushed Obama over the top.
And it certainly didn't help McCain's chances that he declared "the fundamentals of the economy are strong" on the same day that the stock market tanked.

"Jimmy Carter didn't just have unattractive features, he had a woman's face and a weak, effeminate voice. Sent the wrong message to the world."
What the hell does the president's appearance have anything to do with world affairs? And it's weird to see "weak effeminate voice" being used as a slur on a gay board
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 7, 2022 5:29 AM |
I think his light skin and features helped him out. Had he been dark skinned I really don't think he'd have won.

Obama is handsome, but not hot. He's not a Trudau/Macron type politician.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 7, 2022 6:35 AM |
Looks matter, but charisma is just as important. Obama was very charismatic.
