Hubbard's determined straining for effect somehow snagged her an Emmy nom for that role.

Julia went to LA after her Doctors run and was well received. She got several pilots.

She came in second to Shelley Long for the role of Diane in Cheers, then went into Newhart the next season.

I love that the young gays know Julia as Jonathan Groff’s mom on Looking instead of for her roles on Newhart and Designing Women.

Has she ever talked about Hubbard or her time on The Doctors? I wonder if she's embarrassed by her daytime work. Her husband Jerry Lacy is best known for his role on Dark Shadows, and obviously has embraced his soap time, as he still appears at the DS conventions.
