Is he as dodgy at labels as Frank Ocean is?

He identifies as “queer.” Not gay
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 2, 2022 4:15 PM |
Idk why but I rarely find Mexicans or South American men attractive or nice-looking. Not a consciously racist thing, I just generally don’t see any that look hot or beautiful to my eyes. Guess I need to see more and pay more attention, broaden the horizons some.
Actor and former pro-wrestler Paul London (née Garcia) is about the only Mexican man I’ve ever laid eyes on who I thought was really handsome. And I found out years after knowing of him that he’s only half-Mexican, anyways (his father is white Texan).

[Quote] RASCOE: You've been very open about your sexuality and your lyrics. And it's something that has drawn a lot of fans to you. You have a lot of queer fans. But you're not someone who leans into capital R representation. Do you feel it's your position that you would rather just have your records speak for themselves? You have records where you're talking about him, the guy that you are feeling. Would rather just leave it at that?
[Quote] APOLLO: I don't really care. In the beginning, I was trying to be mysterious.
RASCOE: (Laughter).
APOLLO: But I'm very gay.
RASCOE: (Laughter) OK. So you're very gay.
APOLLO: It's funny - every time in interviews, you don't like to - do I really come off like that?
RASCOE: Well, I'm reading the other interviews. Maybe he don't like to say.
APOLLO: No, no, no. I do. I'm totally about it. I'm so with it. I just - I don't know. Maybe I was trying to be mysterious, trying to keep the mystique. You know what I'm saying?
RASCOE: Yeah.
APOLLO: But then, you know what? I don't even care anymore.

R15 it's fucking narcissistic bullshit. You are either gay or you aren't. There isn't any levels to being gay. Exclusively same sex attracted is gay. End of story. Gay means gay. The idiots who describe themselves in "percentages" of being gay are just low IQ "queer" bisexuals who love to fuck up the definition of gay/homosexual and blur the lines for their narcissistic entertainment.

It's nice to hear him backed by a vocal chorus, though they sing better than he does. He needs to work on his breath support. If "Evergreen" takes off, I suspect he'll make a full Nu Soul record. I'm not here for the corny Mexican song at the start.

Climbing the Charts
Omar Apollo scores his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Oct. 1) with his budding hit “Evergreen.”
The song, released in April via Warner Records, debuts at No. 62 with 7.4 million U.S. streams (up 70%) in the Sept. 16-22 tracking week, according to Luminate. It also opens at No. 35 on all-genre Streaming Songs chart.
The surge can be attributed in part to the singer-songwriter’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert on Sept. 15, in honor of Latinx Heritage Month. Omar Apollo performed “Evergreen,” along with “En El Olvido,” “Petrified” and “Endlessly.”
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 30, 2022 12:19 AM |
“ Evergreen” has also expanded its reach thanks to TikTok, where a portion of the song’s bridge has been used in nearly 300,000 clips.
Omar Apollo (real name Omar Velasco; Apollo plays on his middle name, Apolonio), 25, first appeared on a Billboard chart in August 2019 with his EP Friends. The set debuted and peaked at No. 19 on Heatseekers Albums.

Also, R87, so many young men are so pussy starved, that yes, they do listen to music that women like so that they can have something to relate with them. I love his music, but I wish he'd get back to that more guitar-based, indie rocker sound. He had a little R&B Jeff Buckley thing going on in his early projects that was nice ('Unbothered', 'Two of Us', 'U Got Me'). This recent one has some great songs like 'Evergreen' and 'Invincible', but outside of a few it was so overproduced and poppy, jumping from genre to genre and not cohesive at all. Too many digital effects they put on his voice too - although he isn't really a great vocalist so I get why.
He sings about men in his songs a lot more frequently and openly than Frank Ocean (or even Steve Lacy). As a bi guy I'm happy to have him around, I just would rather he be on his own path as a great artist, than the industry's path as a great financial success. His team are pushing him HARD this year (part of the coming out is all the PR) and it's slowly working. He's probably one viral tik tok song and a terrible acting performance on an episode of Euphoria away from really exploding into the mainstream.

I saw Omar on his "Protoype" tour yesterday. The show was soldout. He hit the stage in a black shiny, sequined suit that was a cross between Judy Garland and Prince. He is tall which makes him sexier. He's also agile and his signature move is a twirl, like MJ.
The audience was the most diverse collection of Zoomers I've ever seen at a concert. My gaydar short-circuited, I could not tell who was what. There were same-sex, opposite sex, intersex and indeterminate-sex couples. EVERYONE screamed like a teenage girl at the start of each song and when he would twirl. "Evergreen" was a loud sing-along that climaxed in ear-splitting screams from the crowd. The show was in a theater but they stood the whole time, even during ballads.
Judging from this reaction, he is clearly striking a chord and finding his audience.

The NC state Technician: On Sunday, Nov. 20, Omar Apollo won every heart in the sold-out venue of the Ritz in Raleigh. The 25-year-old R&B singer from Indiana is fairly new to the music scene, though you wouldn’t know it from the electric crowd of 1,400 people singing along to every word. This may be his first tour, but Apollo knows what he’s doing on stage.
The Ritz itself seems very boring and quiet from the outside, but once you step through the doors, you're greeted by the buzz of excited young people and friendly staff. The dark interior and crowded floorspace gets everyone in the mood to dance (and so do the bars stationed in the back of the room).
Opening for Apollo was Ravyn Lenae, who just released her first album "Hypnos,"which, after about four years of relative silence from the artist, did not disappoint. Although her voice was soft and high, it was strong and had an incredible range; it had a fierceness about it that was mimicked in her bright red costume.
Lenae had a calm presence and was clearly at home on the stage. With every song she performed, you could tell that her soul was in it. She performed some of her more upbeat songs like “M.I.A.” and “Xtasy,” which got the crowd fired up. Her R&B-mixed-with-soul sound was an awesome warmup for the crowd.
Apollo himself was warmly welcomed by the noisy crowd of fans and spent the rest of the concert in a sort of witty discourse with the audience. He was incredibly interactive with the crowd, and the crowd was interactive with him. He fed off of their boisterous energy and had everyone singing along and dancing. He stuck to songs from his latest album “Ivory,” such as “Talk” and “Killing Me.”
His songs incorporated aspects of both his American and Spanish backgrounds, as seen in his songs “En El Olvido” and “Tamagotchi.” Others like “Evergreen,” which you’ve probably heard on TikTok at some point, were more soulful, heartfelt songs every one of us can relate to. Evergreen’s famous lines: “You know you really made me hate myself, had to stop before I’d break myself, should have broken off to date myself, you didn’t deserve me at all,” emphasize Apollo’s heartache.
