She was everywhere for a while, and then dropped from the face of the earth. I googled her recently, and saw that she married her first cousin. Yikes; Is that why she was cancelled ? she's now old, fat and ugly
She's pretty great in Darby & Joan.

That green turban!

I never thought she was stunning.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 1, 2022 10:26 PM |
I think she looks great in that clip. Is the point of this thread the fact that she has aged over the past 30 years? Really?

It mut feel odd for Gretta to have Sean Penn as a son-in-law.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 1, 2022 10:27 PM |
I don’t remember her being as huge in the 90s as they say in the video. Also doesn’t she just have a small but pivotal part in presumed innocent? It seems Bonnie bedelia had the more interesting female role in that one. I did love her and her looks in White Mischief and she was fine in The Player too. Seems she did not want to discuss Emma in the op’s clip- I wonder if that’s because of Weinstein.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 1, 2022 10:29 PM |
I don't think she was a big star....ever. She was a well respected arthouse actress.

the way she answers that question in the clip tells me she 's not happy about that. I wonder where these two met ? does Greta or her children, live in Hollywood ? Is that d'onofrio's daughter, or the cousin's ?

She was great in The Coca Cola Kid, an Australian romantic comedy.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 1, 2022 11:00 PM |
In her prime, she was stunning.
I saw her on TV recently in an old episode of Marple. She still looked good, and she would've been nearly 50 then.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 1, 2022 11:06 PM |
She had a part (old and fat) in "Versailles" but that's the only thing I've seen her in for years.
She was a celebrated beauty, once upon a time, but now she's old and fat and that's the way it goes. Marrying her first cousin was frowned upon but she seemed happy, if invisible, with him.
She was married to Vincent D'Onofrio before he was old and fat too.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 1, 2022 11:12 PM |
Invisible?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 1, 2022 11:13 PM |
She was really beautiful . I wonder why even the most beautiful women let themselves go like that. Is the fat unshakable ? the only example of a beauty who stayed thin until the end that comes to mind in Audrey H. but she was very ill.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 1, 2022 11:13 PM |
Actresses who are able to convey genuine disinterest in being liked are few and far between. She’s got it, Michell Pfeiffer has it, can’t think of any others at the moment. Maybe Jessica Lange.
It’s a superpower and you have to look pretty damn good to pull it off. Once the looks go, audiences are all too ready to agree that, well, yeah, we don’t give a fuck about you, either.

Scacchi was the follow-up to Nastassia Kinski as Hollywood's beautiful European starlet dujour, that was, for a year or two in a ton of high profile features and then when she didn't become a breakout star it all ended as quickly as it began.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 2, 2022 12:00 AM |
I would say there were a good ten years gap between Kinski and Scacchi, but yes, they're dime a dozen. Binoche is another. Still, Scacchi seemed to fill a void in the classy department. She was a bit like a less harsh looking Sigourney. I wonder if the "cousin" thing crushed her clout in town
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 2, 2022 12:03 AM |
She spoke about how she despised working with Eric Roberts on The Coca Cola Kid.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 2, 2022 12:16 AM |
R36, Binoche is an international cinema icon at the top of her game: Her work with Claire Denis (Both Sides of the Blade, High Life, Let the Sunshine In) and Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria, Non-Fiction) over the last five to ten years is legendary.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 2, 2022 12:17 AM |
James Ivory famously offered Scacchi the mother role in Call Me By Your Name even though he was just the screenwriter, then had the temerity to be pissed when Guadagnino hired Amira Caesar instead.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 2, 2022 12:23 AM |
Binoche and Sacchi truly do not belong in the same sentence. Blue alone puts Binoche in a different league and that was at the beginning of her career. She’s worked as much as she wants in French cinema and regularly in Hollywood, for almost 40 years.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 2, 2022 12:47 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 2, 2022 12:50 AM |
In White Mischief she was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Stunning. perfection. Why is this movie never discussed FYI? Can’t find it anywhere except old SF versions on YT. Granted the subject matter (Happy valley in the days of colonialism) isn’t PC but it’s an iconic movie . So much great fashion and eccentricity

James Ivory suggested her to Luca Guadagnino to play Timothee’s mother in CMBYN. Ivory loved her and had worked with her and she speaks Italian. Luca agreed. Then, after Luca froze Ivory out, Greta was out, too. He replaced her with the thoroughly unmemorable Amira Casar.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 2, 2022 1:02 AM |
I don't know how Greta would have done in the role, but Amira Casar was rather bland.

Leila George, the daughter of Scacchi and D'Onofrio, is lucky that Greta's genes are obviously dominant. Leila played young Smurf in the "Animal Kingdom" TV series that just had a series finale last week.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 2, 2022 1:57 AM |
I think Scacchi was a beauty, and I think she still looks good, but I think her most important asset was her charisma. She just had IT when she was making her biggest movies. It was impossible to take your eyes off her.

Greta married her cousin years after her time at the top. It didn't negatively affect her career.
I think she just didn't have the insane ambition to stay in the game and preferred to relax in Australia and Italy, raising her kids (and fucking her cousin). Hollywood is no place for a woman over 30.

That makes sense, because she was very talented and stunningly beautiful. I had to LOL at the french posters who think their little culture is the center of the universe, and that we are supposed to know all their actors and directors. How sweet. Very french. Tiny country at the other end of the universe , but think of themselves as THE SHIT. . Anyways, my friends in the industry I mean LA, not saint-george-les-grenouyeses, France, tell me that Binoche was sweet and pretty, but not much of an actress, and Olivier Assayas movies are shit. So there's that. Scacchi could act, play complex parts and she had enormous charisma. I think her private life did her in.

R72 , no offence but, I know very well this big Leading man , no name, who was sought after by this Assayas guy,> watched one of his movies, that was so incredibly amateurish that he was too embarrassed to meet him afterwards, but felt he had to, since Assayas had travelled all the way to see him. It was a very awkward meeting and a quick no. But I'm sure he's admired in your village.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 2, 2022 2:06 PM |
I had always assumed she didn’t want what Hollywood wanted for her - stunning ice princess/femme fatale - and fucked off to do more meaningful work with Merchant/Ivory, independent, art house stuff, leaving the slot for Sharon Stone to fill.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 2, 2022 2:11 PM |

I just watched a couple episodes of Darby and Joan, an Australian series with Bryan Brown that was recommended on here. (Acorn) They play a middle-aged couple driving around in an RV--some beautiful locations--she's trying to find out why her husband of 40 years died in Australia when he told her he was in Spain. That's the overarching mystery but every episode they deal with smaller, unfortunately less interesting ones. She and Brown really work well together and I wish the writing was better. She looks great.

R102 yes. I know both of them. Scacchi is a tall, impressive woman, she can put you ill at ease with one look. Casar is a petite woman, who has a hot gay brother btw, who's quite unimpressive IRL, I never understood the fuss. Back in the day, when she was starting out, she was already treated like the second coming by the power that be. her only contribution to the movie is the chain smoking. You know it's the definition of her denial.
