Ann Sheridan: Did I Miss Something Or Did She Have Just Her 15 Minutes Of Fame And That Was That?

I can't tell if Ann Sheridan should have been a bigger star, and just didn't have that one role to catapult her there.

Sheridan discovered William Travilla's art at Dom the Beachcombers and brought him to Warner Bros where the 26-year-old designer created her film wardrobes for Nora Prentiss, The Unfaithful and Silver River. Then Woman on the Run and Appointment in Honduras after she left the studio, as well as her two late 1950s stage productions of Kind Sir and Odd Man In.

I always suggest her as the most beautiful of all the classic movie actresses.

Appointment in Honduras is so like a film Troy McClure might appear in

My mother always loved Ann Sheridan. Not sure why but I think it’s because she was told she looked like Ann Sheridan when she (my mother) was young.

No better compliment for your mom R7, she must have been a beauty.

by Anonymousreply 8August 29, 2022 12:27 AM

She had oomph.

Ann Sheridan was a WW2 pinup queen, alongside Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth, Lana Turner, etc., so she was a household name for a time. However, not many of her films have stood the test of time.

A Texas native and daughter of an automechanic, Ann knew how to fix cars, shoot a pistol and bulldog steer, so she was a just-one-of-the-guys type of gal.

She tried a sitcom in the '60s but it flopped. They showed it on one of the mesothelioma channels (which are now the Medicare and Camp LeJeune channels) a few years ago and I watched it. It was pretty awful.

Pistols 'n' Petticoats lasted one season. Ann was ill with esophageal cancer and missed several episodes. She died two months before cancelation.

She looks like a dime store floozy

by Anonymousreply 13August 29, 2022 4:17 AM

She always came off a bit dykey to me. Especially in "The Man Who Came To Dinner."
