Jean Smart looks fantastic at 70.

The pics are useless, for the most part. Some of them are several years old... so how can one compare.

Julie Christie, one of my favorite actresses ever, doesn't remotely look like Julie Christie.

Helen Mirren seems the most comfortable in her own face.. still beautiful, but likely genetics, not surgery.

For all the (warranted) criticism of her vanity etc., Jane Fonda has successfully held on to her looks well into her 80s. In some respected she's a more beautiful "85 year old" than she was a "24 year old"...

I’m so grateful to Sally Field’s plastic surgeon that, at 75, she still looks like Sally Field and not some alien cat woman.

R11 She looks great. Since she's a diabetic there is truly only so much plastic surgery she can get so I'm thinking it's good genes and a good dermatologist with her.

R21 Her neotenic features have held her in good stead for ages. Her plastic surgeon knew just what to do tastefully because she still looks like herself.

Jane Fonda was always beautiful. I actually like her. But, she got maybe three or four procedures too many.

Helen Mirren, IMO. She is gorgeous and gloriously elderly to me, and she actually is far more beautiful at her age to me than she was when she was young. Her features look better now.

Most are lovely, though.

I think Vanessa Redgrave is quite attractive but more in a mature, reverence-worthy way than a 'pretty' way. Mirren looks pretty.

Fonda looks amazing but she also looks like the product of a hell of a lot of cosmetic surgery and cosmetics and that's not the same as appreciating an older person for their timeworn features. Jane Fonda is in her mid-80s with no lax skin and nary a wrinkle, so that's a credit to the miracle of modern medical technology and not necessarily a compliment to her aging well.

Interesting how the pic of Goldie unlike the others is not a medium close up so you can’t see her face. Zoom in a bit and you can see that she looks nothing like Goldie Hawn as a result of bad plastic surgery

Susan Lucci looks great facially, but needs to completely cover everything from the chin down.

Also, Martha always has been reputedly wicked, not nice.

Also, she talks incessantly about being Polish and making pierogies and growing up in New Jersey. I think only people who have never listened to her believe she pretends to be a WASP from Connecticut.

She also owns a whole herd of chow chows, which is a pretty bold way of saying, "I will tear you to shreds."

Goldie Hawn looks great when photographed from the next state over.

When Martha was establishing herself she played down the immigrant and alluded to being a WASP from Connecticut. But remember, true WASPs don't follow Martha, only common house frau and nouveau riche women do who think she is teaching them WASP style etc.

When Jackie Onassis was an editor at Doubleday, a manuscript by Martha crossed her desk and she was heard to comment, ' I don't know what the big deal is about Martha Stewart, anyone can arrange pinecones in a bowl.' Says it all really.

Martha has made billions from common, socially ambitious middle America, and good on her!

Maureen Lipman. Very well known in the UK, and very brilliant English actress, completely unknown here. For the life of me, I have no idea why American directors, and American producers never think of casting her. Too late now, unless she take over Maggie Smith's role in D.A. or H.P.

Two deceased actresses: Lauren Bacall, who kept her look well into her later years. And the one who really shocked me, Peggy Lipton, who I think was in her late 70s when the filmed the last Twin Peaks and still looked a good 25-30 years younger than that.

Peggy Lipton was 72. I agree that she looked very good, so the news of her death shocked me, too. She had cancer, I think, and didn't show signs of illness.

I was very sad to learn of her death - I guess 72 isn't young (although she looked so much younger). I heard only good things about her and loved her character on Twin Peaks. Glad she got a happy ending in the Lynch World. i wonder if he knew she was ill and adjusted her character's fate accordingly.

With one or two exceptions, I am a fan of the Twin Peaks cast overall.

Olivia Newton John. She was ill for many years, yet still looked very good....up until her death.

Marie Osmond and Jane Seymour are filtered to death in their TV commercials. Look online for the actresses true appearances.. On the other hand, time seems to have stood still for Raquel Welch and Catherine Bach.

Mirren looks fantastic, Jane Fonda also looks amazing, even if the results of the surgery are more apparent.

And I agree with R39. Olivia Newton John looked great right up through her final public appearances, despite being ill. Damn it that's fucking awful. She was never my all-time number one favorite, but she was as gracious as she was talented. Olivia Newton John was beautiful inside and out.

Martha Stewart also looks great, and is over 80.

So, there's no one answer from me. But those are my thoughts.
