Elizabeth Warren - does she stick in your craw?

I know, I know, she's on the side of the people. Don't destroy your friends. And I'm glad she's a senator. I like her politics!

I cannot abide her personality when she shows up on news shows and talk shows. It's gotten worse. Her unctuous treacly earnest populist schtick STICKS IN MY CRAW!! Do you want to drink a beer with her? Shudder! When Elizabeth talks about good work and good policy, her corniness seems put on and politics seems a shell game with her.

She gives shrews a bad name.

by Anonymousreply 1August 25, 2022 2:37 PM

I prefer Amy, she can get pretty snarky but I think she is a smart, tough broad.

by Anonymousreply 2August 25, 2022 2:38 PM

75% of gay men support her, that’s the hard left. Most gay men are very hard left.

by Anonymousreply 3August 25, 2022 2:40 PM

Yeah Amy is a broad. Not much about Amy seems put on and the rough edges are just out there - take it or leave it.

by Anonymousreply 4August 25, 2022 2:40 PM

I have no desire to drink a beer with any politician. Don't go this route. The " who would you want to be besties with" meme pushed by the media is why we wound up with Bush.

by Anonymousreply 5August 25, 2022 2:42 PM

R5 well that's a good point.

by Anonymousreply 6August 25, 2022 2:43 PM

[quote] 75% of gay men support her, that’s the hard left. Most gay men are very hard left.

The very fact that we are gay makes the nazi Repugs see us as “hard left”

by Anonymousreply 7August 25, 2022 2:43 PM

You bore me, OP. Go rub your troll clit somewhere else.

by Anonymousreply 8August 25, 2022 2:45 PM

I wanted her to be president. So did Rufus Wainwright.

R8 is right. OP can also go die in a grease fire afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 9August 25, 2022 2:48 PM

When Liz talks, she reminds me of Mo Collins playing Stuart's mom on MadTV.

She's still 1,000,000 times better than the vapid slut VP.

Amy is a HBIC and better than both.

by Anonymousreply 10August 25, 2022 2:49 PM

Warren is the smartest girl in the class. Nobody really likes that girl but the few other smart kids do respect her. Unlike most politicians, she doesn't devote herself to developing "people skills" at the expense of dealing with the issues.

by Anonymousreply 11August 25, 2022 2:51 PM

EW doesn’t stick in my craw, mostly because she’s one of the few politicians who seems sincere, even if she goes about it in an irritating way. I trust that if she was in charge I would end up better off.

by Anonymousreply 12August 25, 2022 2:52 PM

Those are a lot of words just to say "I find her shrill," OP.

by Anonymousreply 13August 25, 2022 2:53 PM

I’m a lifelong Democrat, don’t get me wrong, But this Elizabeth Warren broad is just too much, you know what I’m saying?

by Anonymousreply 14August 25, 2022 2:54 PM

Yes. She's a complete phony, and no one wants to see it.

For all her "Middle Class" bullshit, she still spent decades at Harvard, teaching the spawn of the 1%. Did she decamp to a scrappy public university, where Real People go to college? No. She stayed at the elite's elite university, and cashed every goddamn paycheck those rich clowns paid her.

She also lives in a multimillion-dollar manse in a tony neighborhood, and proudly drove a BMW before she got into politics and traded it for a hybrid (American-made, naturally).

She built a career as a conservative legal and economics scholar, and sold a great many books with that mindset. But she suddenly had a complete soul conversion during the Great Recession and magically turned into this big liberal? Or was it more a case of a huckster chasing a new audience and cashing in on them?

by Anonymousreply 15August 25, 2022 2:58 PM

"I have no desire to drink a beer with any politician. Don't go this route. The " who would you want to be besties with" meme pushed by the media is why we wound up with Bush."

That's the same reason behind Trump. Flyovers and Deplorables saw him on the tay-vee and pa looked at ma and said "that there fella is goin places. He really is a smart guy. He should be prezdent some day."

by Anonymousreply 16August 25, 2022 2:58 PM

R16 Maybe they were motivated by assholes like you, who deride them as "Flyovers" who talk with a cartoonishly bad accent that you just had to replicate here.

If you talked to me like that, I wouldn't vote for your side either.

by Anonymousreply 17August 25, 2022 3:00 PM

I never understood how she went from being an Oklahoma Republican to a far left Massachusetts senator

by Anonymousreply 18August 25, 2022 3:06 PM

She talks like a man, put on a pink dress and some high heels for christsakes. She should be talking about the Bennifers!

by Anonymousreply 19August 25, 2022 3:07 PM

[quote]The very fact that we are gay makes the nazi Repugs see us as “hard left”

Unfortunately, your voting habits and extreme ideologies match those of bizarro Trumpers. Very few liberal, centrist gay men exist. It’s either hard left, or hard right with gay men.

by Anonymousreply 20August 25, 2022 3:09 PM

We fucked up not electing her.

by Anonymousreply 21August 25, 2022 3:10 PM

Get off your high horse, sanctimonious cunt troll @R17.

Trump himself makes fun of his supporters. On 1/6/21, he was bitching to anyone who would listen about how poorly his armed insurrectionists were dressed, as if you should wear a Brooks Brothers suit to a riot.

by Anonymousreply 22August 25, 2022 3:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 24August 25, 2022 3:17 PM

I'm a troll for snarking about the questionable personality of a politician? I clearly state I like her politics.

by Anonymousreply 25August 25, 2022 3:20 PM

Her eyebrow lift was excessive. She looks perpetually astonished now.

by Anonymousreply 26August 25, 2022 3:22 PM

OP is not a troll, he’s a bizarro Trumper.

by Anonymousreply 27August 25, 2022 3:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 28August 25, 2022 3:25 PM

R15 has her number. As did the people of her own state, who voted her a distant third place in the presidential race of 2020. Third. Place.

by Anonymousreply 29August 25, 2022 3:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 32August 25, 2022 3:35 PM

R22 Yes, because if that asshole does it, you can too!

by Anonymousreply 33August 25, 2022 3:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 34August 25, 2022 3:36 PM

She comes across as the know-it-all high school AP English teacher who thinks she has college admissions figured out and what it takes to be successful.

If you cross her, she'll withhold her letter of recommendation to sabotage you and take pleasure in having to go to a less prestigious school. She'd rather see you fail than see the overall benefit of more people getting into better schools.

by Anonymousreply 35August 25, 2022 3:41 PM

I love her. I'd like to date her. She brilliant and attractive in that LL Bean - New England-ish kind of way.

BTW, I voted for Jerry Ford the first time I voted. Being a Republican back in the day is nothing to be ashamed of. The GOP was very different then. If you want an example, just imagine a Republican president created the EPA and backed clean air, clean water, lowering emissions, etc. Because it's true. That president was Richard Nixon.

She seems daffy. Her 'having a beer' presidential candidacy announcement was cringeworthy. Her comments about selecting a Secretary of Education were ill conceived and pablum for the edges of the party. She's well qualified for her position and and overall asset to the party. But, I am beyond tired of politicians such as Warren who focus on fringe issues and make stupid mistakes. Our democracy is crumbling and they're too wrapped in their image management to be effective.

by Anonymousreply 37August 25, 2022 4:14 PM

I don't like her, I don't trust her!! She gets on my Fucking nerves!!

As a moderate to Liberal Democrat, her caring about the working class is rather appalling; she has been a 1% for too long(like Bernie-don't trust him at all-Socialist my fucking ass).

I just had a meeting with the Major Democrats in the House& Senate concerning my clients and their MONEY(where to invest the $$$$ in what race) I yelled at the Senators about the Susan Collins race& the Miss Graham race. Who was doing the polling, because they sucked? I told Jamie Harrison you lost by 12 fucking points to Miss Graham, it wasn't fucking close at all. I yelled at Chuck Schumer too about who was doing the polling. Who were they related too!!

Please forgive me for being mean, after 2&1/2 yrs, 4 shots avoiding all people with Covid, wearing masks. I developed COVID yeaterday. I'm soooo FUCKING PISSED OFF!! All the alcohol& I still got it and like ALL MEN...I AM A GIANT FUCKING BABY!!

by Anonymousreply 38August 25, 2022 4:19 PM

She’s phenomenal. She understands the needs of the middle class, how the economy is fixed to help the rich, and how to communicate complex ideas in a simple, direct way

by Anonymousreply 39August 25, 2022 4:21 PM

I personally love her and her demeanor, but I've been forced to accept that a lot of people are turned off by it.

by Anonymousreply 40August 25, 2022 4:26 PM

I really liked her when she first came to prominence after the financial crisis. She seemed no-nonsense, pragmatisch and passionate. I even remember thinking I wish she'd run for President, lol. By the time she actually did I found her insufferable - peddling any woke nonsense in the most grating way.

by Anonymousreply 41August 25, 2022 4:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 42August 25, 2022 4:43 PM

[quote] The GOP was very different then. If you want an example, just imagine a Republican president created the EPA and backed clean air, clean water, lowering emissions, etc. Because it's true. That president was Richard Nixon.

It wasn’t the party that was different, it was the times and people’s understanding of what effects government regulations could have. In the late 60s and early 70s, there was consensus that America had a severe pollution problem and there was a willingness to do things to clean things up and to stop future pollution. It was in the mid 70s and later that side effects of government regulations starting popping up that caused a backlash against government overreach and bureaucratic excesses. Remember the snail darter controversy? People were for saving endangered species when it was understood that it would be for broad categories, like “the whales”. People didn’t know the government would use the law to stop major projects like a dam to save some minor species of fish like the snail darter.

After a lot of these situations occurred with various regulations, the backlash against regulation excesses was picked up by the GOP (think Reagan and his 1976 run) and the Democrats sided with government control, and it continues to this day.

Her facelift is creepy. Her eyebrows are now in the middle of her forehead. Warren's such a phony. She was a Republican while she lived in Oklahoma and Texas. She was even a Republican when she lived in Austin at the same time Ann Richards was Gov, Barbara Jordan and Molly Ivins were in their prime. When she lived in Austin, her son would have gone to Austin High, a great public school but one whose catchment area cuts right across Austin to include both rich West Austin (where she lived) and poor, black and Latino East Austin. She sent her kid to a private school. Dubya's daughters went to Austin High. I figure she didn't want her brat mingling with those "people of color".

by Anonymousreply 44August 29, 2022 9:27 PM

Politics isn't a Miss America Pageant, OP.

It needs to be a place for people who are willing to call Trump and his minions enemies of democracy to their faces, and I'd trust Warren to do that. Now isn't that more important than appearing to be someone you'd want to get a beer with?

by Anonymousreply 45August 29, 2022 9:44 PM

r20 I'd argue that more people are closer to the center in actuality but project hard left or hard right among their sociopolitical cliques based on which side of it they lean... circlejerks can seem aggressivel y intense and hyper focused but post climax, we tend to have a better view of what they believe.

not unlike many politicians with records that widely differ from their campaigning lip service.

but I'd have to add a caveat, that younger people do tend to be more single issue voters and therefore prone to greater extremes.

by Anonymousreply 46August 29, 2022 10:23 PM

r30 It wasn't that bad in the beginning. It took until the second campaign cycle for me to get permanently banned there. I would say the majority were just misguided people that felt the mainstream left had gone too far left and faced public repercussions, sometimes violence and harassment, for mild offenses deemed un-pc.

It's not unlike some of the dissidents that find their way here because they are isolated or face similar threats from mainstream media and social media as well.

I'd say roughly about a quarter, maybe even around thirty, thirty five percent were largely there because of the purges on reddit, twitter, youtube, even the chans (the chans became both more far right and far left depending on sub than the once irreverent and universal trolls they had been, the same politics filtered onto the other chans which were initially created to get away from the extremism, go figure, but that was also connected to the tumblr purge and most are not registered voters)...

conspiracy forums and hate groups, of course, got even worse during that period, though. GLP remained largely far right with a scattering of far left but looking at them now, they've seem to lost many of their users and now, they don't seem all that outlandish compared to mainstream. Pity, their brand of batshit lunacy used to provide hours of entertainment.

R54 Trump has a "gift" for that, if you can call extremely precise and effective antisocial trolling a "gift".

by Anonymousreply 60August 30, 2022 7:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 61August 30, 2022 8:00 AM

She's an old dyke who hates men and absolutely despises gay guys. She's very obvious about it like when she went after Pete Buttigieg with the "wine cave" thing. I laugh so much when Randy Rainbow Gays idolize her and try to take pictures with her and she won't even touch them and you can see the look of disgust on her face from a mile away.

I'm surprised now one has brought up this video yet. Another great moment in Warren delusion.

A lot of people whose primary issue is economic equality/fairness have shuffled between the parties between 1970 and present, because of the debates over what is causing the hollowing out of the middle class. The division between Dem and GOP used to be based more on federal vs state control, not social issues. A lot of people like Warren who blame tax policy and corruption for economic outcomes have moved from GOP to Dem, while a lot of people like Trump who fell into populism and blamed immigration policy and free trade moved from Dem to GOP. It’s not a sign of being a phony, it’s a political realignment.

by Anonymousreply 64August 30, 2022 10:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 79August 30, 2022 3:17 PM

Warren got her first big job as a law professor at University of Texas Austin through her husband who was a very well-known law professor. It helped that she claimed to be Cherokee. She's a grad of U Houston and Rutgers Law and UT Austin is too rich and too snobbish to hire a professor who went to such plebeian schools.

A couple of things really revolted by about her during her run for President. When some black women protestors showed up at one of her rallies, she hid behind Ayanna Presley instead of speaking directly to them. She obviously was unused to interacting with the Colored People. Warren also bragged about how she modestly worked as a Special Ed teacher, waxing poetic about herself devoted as she was to the Vulnerable. Then a young man with a learning disability asked her a question at a rally. It didn't make much sense. But instead of trying to interact with him and clarify what his issue was, she turned away from him, ignoring him and asking the audience if anybody else had a question for her. Such a phony.

by Anonymousreply 80August 30, 2022 5:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 85August 30, 2022 7:05 PM

It's pretty fucking obvious what the implication is when the first gay candidate in history is running and you spend 90% of your campaign telling a story about him sipping fancy wines in a dark underground basement with a group of other rich men. She thought that was the perfect way to humiliate him out of the race because she has no sense of shame herself.

by Anonymousreply 86August 30, 2022 7:11 PM

The wine caves comment was about Pete's disconnect from actual working class people. He had, and still has, zero appeal with working class people.

by Anonymousreply 87August 30, 2022 7:16 PM

r87 So only the gay guy is disconnected from the working class even though he was the only working class person race? Funny how she didn't attack Beto who is worth $400 million. Or herself who is worth $35 million.

heheh load debt. I mean loan debt. 20k. for an Ivy League Bachelor - Columbia. Yale is 13K. Total federal loan debt for an undergraduate BA BS.

Most Americans are unaware of this. They are thinking of Johnny Mediocre taking out 120K to graduate from some fake prestige college.

r98 Yes but Pete isn't working class because he "aspires to wealth" hahaha. Whereas Beto and Warren just woke up one day with 8-figure and 9-figure fortunes totally by accident. Then by another embarrassing coincidence, they meant to donate it all to charity but forgot to mail the check for the entirety of their lives. Now shut up and pay my student loans!

r104 Thankfully that figure is pre-inflation. Probably closer to a billion now, but still going to be a very tough life trying to get by on that.
