The Lost Generation: Gen Jones
Who belongs into the class of Generation Jones? Some substantive characteristics include:
• Born between 1954 and 1965.
• Came of age during the 70s worsening of the economy, very different than Boomer’s and Gen X-er’s.
• Most likely remember your parents’ reaction to the death of President Kennedy, rather than feeling a loss yourself.
• Childhood years inspired by positive social change of the Boomers (landing on the moon), but had to deal with the sobering events of the 70s (Watergate, oil embargo, 13% inflation, 11% unemployment, 14% home mortgage rates, 20% credit card monthly fees, 66 Americans held hostage in Iran for 444 days and 55 MPH speed limit).

Yeah...if you were born in 1965 it would be quite a trick to remember your own reaction.

[quote] Nice self WW
I dont see one, but if I got one it wasn't from me. People who take DL that seriously need help. Both those who WW themselves and those who accuse others of doing it for no good reason.

The best part of being part of that generation is that we get to hate EVERYONE: boomers, Gen X, millennials, and whatever the kids born in 1995 and later are called (not that we really care).

Born in 1958
Have a clear memory of the Kennedy assassination > no pre-school that day. Age 10 and listening to Walter Cronkite> the Vietnam war was a bigger deal and I worried it would go on so long that i would be drafted. The oil shocks of the mid 70's/inflation did seem life changing. I knew what my dad paid for our houses growing up: never more than $20,000, and when I started looking: $60,000 and 9% interest rates. We are hitting this same inflationary/reset now as well.

Born in '55. Remember right after Kennedy assassination the teacher in my Pensacola grade school class wouldn't allow anyone to talk about it. Viet Nam stretched out forever during school years. By the time I could get away from my parents felt like I'd missed out on the best of the 60's. Always too late for everything!

Most of these charts that don't include Gen Jones say that Boomers stopped being born in 1965, which is ridiculous. I was born in 1963 and have everything in common with Gen X.
Woodstock meant NOTHING to me. Same with any hippie activity. I was influenced by the Brady Bunch, punk and New Wave. Barely remember Watergate as something my parents watched during the day.

Having been born in 1970, I only vaguely recall hearing the words "Watergate" and "Vietnam." My parents used to have the CBS News with Walter Cronkite on the little black and white TV in the kitchen.
The earliest president I remember was Ford. And I recall being hereded into the all purpose room to watch Carter's inauguration.

Only a true Gen Xer could use the term ALL-PURPOSE ROOM with such nonchalance.

I think 1962/1963 is a good Gen X cutoff point. Same for 1976/1977 on the younger end.

Born in 1962. Too young for Kennedy dying but do remember walking past the television when they announced Judy Garland passed. I let out a shriek and fainted.

Late 61 here. I don't remember Kennedy at all, as I wasn't even 2 yet when he was killed. I have snippets of memories concerning Vietnam, though do remember it ending.
My first big news memory is the 1972 Munich Olympics and Jim McKay announcing that "they're all gone". That will stick with me forever, as I was glued to the TV coverage. Watergate is my first political memory, but at the time it was just interrupting the soaps and was always on when I got home from school.
Usually I hear that the end of the Boomer generation is tied in with the wider distribution of the birth control pill in the mid-60s.

My Jones buddy is a hardcore refusenik and lets his old lady be the mule. She wanted a go getter but is resigned to her fate with him. He just Peter Pans through life and sneers at the minion suckers pushing their rocks up the hill. Don't hire these people they are terrible workers trying to get fired any way they can.
