Rachel Maddow praises long-time friend Tucker Carlson for his success

Rachel Maddow spoke highly of Tucker Carlson in an interview in the September issue of Vanity Fair, published on Sunday, saying, "Tucker's doing great right now."

It was Maddow's first interview since scaling back her duties as the host of "The Rachel Maddow Show" on MSNBC.

"But look at Tucker's career. The first show I worked on was his 11 o'clock show on MSNBC that nobody remembers. But he was always kicking around the business and has always been talented. It just — this turned out to be his moment," she said.

Maddow was a panelist on "Tucker" from 2005 to 2008. In the interview, Maddow compared Carlson's hosting style to watching professional baseball.

"It doesn't mean you don't appreciate whatever they're doing in terms of, you know, where they put their shortstop in order to give them a better defense. There's a sort of, like, respecting the game, in terms of people who are doing well and people who are good at it," she said.

In a 2013 Salon story, Maddow said, "Tucker and I agree on just about nothing, but he has always been kind to me, and a fun person to fight with. I wish him all the best."

--

During the interview, Maddow remembered bumping into the Fox News host recently and said, "It was really nice to see him."

It really is all a game and they all know it.

by Anonymousreply 1August 17, 2022 3:50 PM

They fucking?

by Anonymousreply 2August 17, 2022 3:52 PM

She just said the quiet part out loud. The media supports its own, even if their own are propagandists and liars. Let's not pretend that Jim Acosta hasn't defended Andy Ngo, or that the entire media establishment lead by Jake Tapper didn't attack Obama for weeks because his press secretary said Fox was entertainment and not news. There are tons of examples like this.

I get that you rightwing trolls are trying to divide and demoralize with this kind of shit, but the truth is you benefit from how the media operates as this insular little in-group.

by Anonymousreply 3August 17, 2022 3:53 PM

I remember her on his earlier show, they actually worked well together. They discussed controversial issues in an intellectual manner. Wish there was more of that.

by Anonymousreply 4August 17, 2022 4:18 PM

R2 only when Rachel puts the strap on well on.

by Anonymousreply 5August 17, 2022 4:21 PM

I would pay serious money to see that, r5, but don’t ask me why.

I just go with it.

by Anonymousreply 6August 17, 2022 4:23 PM

What in the fuck is wrong with this woman?

I've lost all respect for her.

Even if he is a Liberal Democrat and the nicest person in the world (in real life), what he does on FOX News, and the damage he has done to this country by spewing the filth that he does, makes him EVIL.

And that's not hyperbole. It's a fact.

So when I hear her "sing his praises," it actually makes me sick to my stomach.

by Anonymousreply 7August 17, 2022 4:40 PM

Cunt. I have no respect for her.

by Anonymousreply 8August 17, 2022 4:44 PM

She is loyal to the people who helped her career. That’s not a bad thing.

by Anonymousreply 9August 17, 2022 4:46 PM

R9 = Maddow.

by Anonymousreply 10August 17, 2022 4:52 PM

Suck my $30 million, r10.

by Anonymousreply 11August 17, 2022 4:57 PM

lol.

by Anonymousreply 12August 22, 2022 6:54 AM

They've been friends for decades. They disagree on absolutely everything, but they're still always gracious about each other personally, and I have a lot of respect for that.

by Anonymousreply 13August 22, 2022 7:01 AM

Well, I guess, when you think about, Hitler did have good leadership skills and could turn out a crowd.

You gotta respect that.

by Anonymousreply 14August 22, 2022 7:08 AM

Tucker is hawt.

by Anonymousreply 15August 22, 2022 7:12 AM

Rachel has lost her mind.

by Anonymousreply 16August 22, 2022 7:15 AM

r14, Hitler was friends with Stalin for quite a while. They both were united by Marxism, in the beginning, after all.

Maddow has said similar glowing things about Greta Van Susteren. I can understand that a bit better, as Greta reached out to Maddow, and offered her support in the spirit of women sticking together and supporting one another in journalism. Greta is said to be surprisingly non-competitive with other women, and always eager to mentor.

Though I'm a Progressive, I can see why people have respect for Van Susteren. Swanson boy, not so much. Maddow has an ability to be collegial, despite their differences, and though it may be admirable from a professional POV, this does come as rather a surprise from her. It doesn't diminish my respect, but it's as shocking as George W's friendship with Ellen De Generes.

Strange alliances behind the scenes. I'm far too radical I suppose to understand anyone grounded in reality singing Tuckem's praises.

by Anonymousreply 18August 22, 2022 7:25 AM

Sports metaphors are so annoying.

by Anonymousreply 19August 22, 2022 7:30 AM

I’m eager to mentor, too.

by Anonymousreply 20August 22, 2022 7:32 AM

How magnanimous of Rachel

by Anonymousreply 21August 22, 2022 7:42 AM

R15: you can say that again!

by Anonymousreply 25August 22, 2022 7:52 AM

Willie Geist seems to have forgotten that he was Tucker's sidekick when Tucker had an afternoon show on MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 26August 22, 2022 8:01 AM

Rachel Maddow has $100 Million dollars in the bank. She just doesn't give a fuck.

And yes R1. It all really is a fame to these people. They work in corporate media and its ultimately about the Benjamin$.

by Anonymousreply 27August 22, 2022 8:15 AM

Game.

by Anonymousreply 28August 22, 2022 8:16 AM

I admire a lot of maddows work but r3 sums it up. The political media in particular are all very very close. Note how that once a narrative is established they all start echoing each other. See for example, the coordinated attack on Al Gore during the 2000 election. He was effeminate, and a liar, and looked silly in his earth tones, etc etc. And the people with the most sway in the D.C. press corps are some of the most vile and execrable people on the planet. Not a lot of people know this but a big part of the attacks on Clinton in the 90s came after Hilary declined an invite to Sally Quinn ( Ben Bradley's wife's) cocktail party. Not that the Clintons were blameless or angels but a lot of what went down was driven by petty animosity.

I do still find Maddow less offensive than most of her peers because at least she doesn't echo their propaganda on her show, even if she pals around with scumbags.

by Anonymousreply 29August 22, 2022 8:22 AM

Media people are everything wrong with America. They are some of the most out of touch people in this country along with Washington politicans in both parties.

All of these people need a good scare. Which is one of the reasons I don't give a fuck Trumps cockroaches are going after the FBI. All of these people are institutional garbage.

by Anonymousreply 30August 22, 2022 8:31 AM

Sally Quinn, hahahaha

Is her retard son still living next door with his “wife?”

Clownworld.

by Anonymousreply 31August 22, 2022 8:34 AM

The FBI spends all day watching hardcore gay porn. This has been confirmed.

by Anonymousreply 32August 22, 2022 8:35 AM

Who does Sally Quinn think she is? And how did she become so powerful in the first place? And is it normal for first ladies to except invitations to cocktail parties or DC journalists? I could see someone like Nancy Reagan excepting an invite to such an event. But than again, Nancy Reagan wasn't a serious person to begin with. She was always superficial and very surface.

She was also a failed Hollywood actress, who was more of a vapid socialite than a first lady while in the white house. She cared more about keeping up with her bestie Betsy Bloomingdale than actually doing the serious work of being a public servant first lady. So Nancy and Melania have more in common with each other than not. Two awful superficial Bitches!

by Anonymousreply 33August 22, 2022 8:47 AM

Sally Quinn herself claimed to have been a "witch" - as in the spells and potions kind, not as in the Dynasty kind, r33. Although there is NO doubt she was a witch-bitch, albeit lacking any real style or grace. She was no Alexis. More of a wannabe Alexis understudy who got lucky when she married the director of the show.

R34 Well maybe she's telling the truth. The woman radiates malice.

by Anonymousreply 35August 22, 2022 9:05 AM

Maybe she is, r35. Apparently, the way she treated husband Ben Bradley when he got too old/senile to socialise/forward her interests was less than...ideal.

by Anonymousreply 36August 22, 2022 9:14 AM

She took the retard son to a Bahamian prostitute or some shit as a teenager to lose his virginity.

by Anonymousreply 37August 22, 2022 9:18 AM

Is the Jazzercise instructor she fixed Quinn up with still around?
