Eldergays, did you ever hitchhike? What was it like? Did you feel safe and that everyone was looking out for everyone else? Or was it a bit scary? Was there a rush of freedom in that you could go anywhere?
I guess it was the next progression from people jumping into boxcars on railroads.

I hitchhiked up and down the California coast and across the country west to east once. I’m amazed (now) that I survived all that.
