ROD TAYLOR never fucked his co-stars

Just watching GIANT on TCM now and noticing the gorgeous hunk that was Rod Taylor in one of his first American films.

But it got me to thinking that there have never been rumors of him fucking all those gorgeous leading ladies of his - Elizabeth Taylor (Giant), Jane Fonda (Sunday in New York), Tippi Hedren (The Birds), Debbie Reynolds (A Catered Affair), Yvette Mimieux (The Time Machine), Shirley MacLaine (Ask Any Girl), Doris Day (Do Not Disturb and The Glass Bottom Boat), Young Cassidy (Julie Christie), and on and on. I think they all happened to be unattached at the time of filming.

I'm not suggesting he was gay. More wondering why all those ladies weren't tempted.

by Anonymousreply 137October 22, 2022 1:54 PM

Rod was also on Falcon Crest and he never fucked us either!

by Anonymousreply 1August 15, 2022 1:24 AM

Maybe he was a professional and didnt believe in fucking around with work associates. Not everyone is an insecure whore that has to bed everyone they come in contact with to prove themselves.

by Anonymousreply 2August 15, 2022 1:25 AM

Because he was 'hot' for about eight years or so. His looks tanked fast after 1970 thanks to his heavy drinking.

He also beat his women.

by Anonymousreply 50August 15, 2022 4:32 AM

Rod actually had a very good American accent in some of his films. Btw, he had excellent chemistry with Maggie Smith in "The VIPs" and reteamed for "Young Cassidy". He was an excellent actor, and indeed, quite a good-looking guy. I love him in "Sunday in New York", probably the best romantic comedy from Broadway back then that still holds up and entertains as a film. His kiss for Jane Fonda when she wants him to have sex with her really seems like he's going for it. Of course, he stops when he finds out she's "a beginner" in the film. He's still very hot in it.

by Anonymousreply 51August 15, 2022 4:55 AM

As a child, Rod lived at 40 Mary Street in Lidcombe, New South Wales, Australia. Lidcombe is a western suburb of Sydney, not far from the Sydney Olympic Park.

by Anonymousreply 76August 16, 2022 12:37 AM

But wasn't Rod's contract with MGM ending at the same time that all of MGM's long term contract players' contracts were ending? I think I read that the only star who stayed with MGM well into the 1960s was Debbie Reynolds. And, for that matter, all of the other studios were also letting go of their stable of stars by that time.

Well, I guess except for Warner Bros which had all those young TV stars under contract like Troy Donahue, Connie Stevens, Bob Conrad, Diane McBain, et. al.

I think by the 1960s most stars didn't want to be under long term contracts to any studio so I imagine Rod was happy to free lance and was certainly in high demand throughout the decade.

by Anonymousreply 77August 16, 2022 12:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 127October 13, 2022 2:54 PM

Just to add a little spice to this thread, when I was 16 I loved Taylor enough to join his fan club, me and about 487 middle-aged women. I watched “Hong Kong” on TV avidly, when he was still in the same shape as when I’d first seen him in “The Time Machine,” his best role.

Some years later, in 70’s New York, when I was closeted, and married to a woman, I spent an afternoon at the old Club Baths on 1st Ave., where I met Ken, a stocky Long Island State patrolman, on his day off. We had a great time. Then, while we took a break, for some reason, I mentioned Taylor. Ken smiled, and told me that, back in about 1960, when he had tried to be a model in L.A., he’d met Taylor at a cocktail party, and said they’d been fuck buddies for about a year.

I could see that. Ken and Rod were the same kind of stocky, masculine men. Bet they had fun. Ken and I sure did.

Make of that what you will.
