Get rid of all these nuisance animals immediately. Anyone who defends these mangey mongrels is an idiot. Any city that doesn’t ban them wants baby blood on their hands.
The kid shouldn’t have teased it.

In the last several years, I’ve heard WAY too many stories about pit bull attacks, far more than any breed.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 14, 2022 4:29 PM |
They should be banned until they can breed out the aggression.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 14, 2022 4:34 PM |
The situation with pit bulls is controversial if looked at from the perspective of anthropomorphism and attachment to beloved pets.
Pitbulls, and Anatolian shepherds, have a bite force that can harm. If you got an aggressive lab, an aggressive cocker spaniel, or an aggressive Chihuahua it doesn’t really matter does it? They don’t have a bite force that can cause harm even to adults. also, if these breeds become aggressive be aggressive behavior does not persist in a way that is completely and utterly insensitive to punishment or any other training intervention. I’m talking about dogs that go into a trance, a sort of battle trance where they cannot be aroused out of it until the other animal that they’re biting is dead. This is also a genetic trait.
Another way to look at this is Those of us that work in veterinary medicine divide ourselves between large and small animal work. Species like cattle and horses can kill a person and they have to be dealt with accordingly for safety . we don’t beat them we don’t abuse them but we take care to position ourselves and use restraint techniques that prevent us from getting killed when working with large animals. I am unaware if these cultural techniques exist in dog training (in sharp contrast farming with large animals)
My personal opinion is that any dog with a bite force sufficient to harm an adult human being or even harm a child should be placed in a category that requires the owner to be licensed for an animal like that.
Another way to deal with it would be to treat it like a weapon that requires ongoing continuous education. Yearly educational credits could be a requirement to keep the license just like a doctor has to take CE‘s to keep their license.
It’s not about breed discrimination it’s about cause-and-effect with the phenotypes of bite force and unreasonable aggression and the complete and utter disruption of the human animal bond which takes place when a dog that is behaviorally and physically capable of destroying somebody else’s family member or dog or cat etc.

A pit bull wandered into our front yard three years ago. We don't know where he came from, and no one replied to our fliers. He had obviously been neglected at some point. We've kept him now three years and he is the sweetest thing ever, he's scared of his own shadow and won't go outside after dark. He's only barked once in three years and has never growled or shown agression. He is sweet and loving and especially with other neighborhood dogs and kids. We can keep the gate wide open and he wont run off. He blessed us and vice versa.

I’m not sure how a reply stating that it’s not the breed but the individual dogs behavior combined with the ability to bite with lethal force is a problem or an indication of a disruption in GABA. I’m not anti any animal. My opinion is that if animals become aggressive, regardless of the breed, they will be taken away from the owners and that is what I’m stating is tragic, and I’m also equally as much in favor of trying to prevent the bond between humans and animals being destroyed by preventable situations.

I’m an attorney currently representing a family whose three year-old was attacked by a pitbull. The father and the three year-old were outside on the playground when this vicious pitbull charged at them and attacked the three year-old, biting him in the head. He had to go to the ER and get his head stapled.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 14, 2022 5:52 PM |
stapled to what, R23?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 14, 2022 5:58 PM |
Great Pyrenees dogs actually have a greater bite force than a pitbull and yet GPs are known for and are, gentle giants.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 14, 2022 6:24 PM |
We don't need pit bulls. They should not be allowed to breed. Let them die out.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 14, 2022 6:30 PM |
Pit Bull enthusiasts are like the Twitter jockeys and T’stapo, they twist around statistics to fit their agenda. I’ve noticed a strange reoccurrence that many newspapers quit putting the name of the breed in the story, much like a certain other demographic.

Where I live there are a lot of roaming dogs that kill cats and small pets like rabbits. They are nearly always pit bulls or pit bull crosses. The trouble here is that the vast majority of people who own pit bulls are not responsible owners and don't give a shit if they are roaming and killing other animals. The pound is full of them, because it's cheaper to buy another one that pay to get them back and it's not like owners like that care about them. They should ban them here not just for public safety but also because they are usually neglected.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 14, 2022 7:07 PM |
Pit bulls were bred to be fighting dogs not pets. Just like dobermans and rottweilers were bred to be guard dogs for prisons and private property. Not cuddly fur babies for families. Pit bull apologists are stubborn and no matter how hard you try to convince them with statistics and facts. They'll ignore you and say "my Pit is the sweetest little baby ever." Delusional.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 14, 2022 7:15 PM |
So true r31!
There’s definitely an ego thing going on with pit bull owners. I truly believe that most of the owners are coming from this insecure based delusional ‘I’m a bad ass because I have a pit bull’ mindset. It’s very unfortunate.

I don’t know about euthanize, although I agree with the sentiment. Instead, I would force all pit bulls to be spade and nurtured. Then, any pit bull found to be born thereafter should be euthanized.
Pit Bulls are not a distinct animal. They are just a type of dog. We lose literally nothing from a biological or social standpoint, and we have public safety to gain.

You know who the anti-pitbull troll is starting all these threads? The same anti-trans troll who's been really aggressive the past couple of days, losing her shit over anything "woke" and asking us to define what woman means in completely unrelated threads. It is also the same troll who used to spam us with Froy/Madden threads and those about Miles Helzer and Chandler Massey. That's one sick puppy obsessed with a variety of things.

You would have to kill three quarters of am dogs in my city, every mixed dog has some pit in them around here, even my vet said that and I now believe it. Just like gun control, it ain't happening. Perhaps spend more time on things you can change and stay away from pit bulls if you don't like them.
