Anybody know why the Republicans voted down the Veterans Relief bill yesterday?

Why do republicans hate veterans?

They are always either scamming them or using the legislature to screw them constantly.

It seems like veterans should reject republicans wholesale.

by Anonymousreply 111July 30, 2022 2:02 PM

It's crazy veterans think Republicans ever cared about them to begin with. Trump disrespected them too.

by Anonymousreply 1July 28, 2022 1:49 PM

Partially it was a hissy fit on Manchin changing his vote on the climate change bill. McConnel had been in support of it passing, but his top priority is to prevent Democrat victories regardless of who it harms. Also, another example of filibuster abuse, since it did have a majority vote.

by Anonymousreply 2July 28, 2022 1:52 PM

Seems really messed up.

U.S. Senate fails to advance burn pits bill for veterans in dispute over spending

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 4July 28, 2022 1:54 PM

Why do they say “US Senate” when it’s only the republicans who blocked it?

[quote]Why do republicans hate veterans?

Veterans, log cabinettes and any minority group who votes Republican, hates themselves even more.

by Anonymousreply 6July 28, 2022 1:56 PM

Here is a list who voted no. Call em up and give them your opinion and tell ‘em you’ll never vote republican again as a result l

by Anonymousreply 7July 28, 2022 1:56 PM

“The legislation would expand eligibility for VA health care and benefits to 3.5 million veterans who were exposed to burn pits since 9/11.

It would add 23 illnesses to the list of diagnoses the VA presumes are connected to military service, ending the need for veterans with those conditions to try to prove to the federal government it’s the result of time overseas.

The measure would also expand health care and benefits for veterans exposed to Agent Orange, a chemical the U.S. military used during the Vietnam War. American Samoa, Cambodia, Guam, Johnston Atoll, Laos and Thailand would all be added to the list of locations where veterans are presumed to have been exposed to the chemical.”

by Anonymousreply 8July 28, 2022 2:00 PM

Damn these republicans are fucking evil.

They just don’t want people to be insured so their hedge fund zombi hospitals can sue the patients into oblivion.

by Anonymousreply 9July 28, 2022 2:01 PM

A lot of vets pretend the Republicans alone aren't the ones who ALWAYS do this, because many of them are white, racist trash first who believe hurting other people is the priority, even if that means cutting their own nose off.

by Anonymousreply 10July 28, 2022 2:01 PM

The Republican prime directive is to crush Democrats and all progressive institutions and tendencies in any and all ways.

by Anonymousreply 11July 28, 2022 2:02 PM

republicans are huddling to try to strip bankruptcy protections for 2023/2024 legislature session. This is why, people.

They want to bring back the option to send people to jail for unpaid depts. convicted debtors will work for prison wages until the debt is paid off.

This is basically debtor prisons and indentured servitude.

by Anonymousreply 12July 28, 2022 2:05 PM

The koch brothers must have shook their head “no” and their minions did as told.

by Anonymousreply 13July 28, 2022 2:08 PM

They love to scam the veterans so this is also to keep those private donations coming in for the republicans to keep for themselves.

R2 is right. McConnell was pissy about Manchin double crossing him, so he took it out on veterans. I would hope a lot of Democrats are going to use this in their campaign ads.

by Anonymousreply 16July 28, 2022 2:10 PM

This is so typical Republican but it’s really laid bare here.

Why on earth do these deplorables keep voting Republican?

Is it really worth it?

by Anonymousreply 17July 28, 2022 2:11 PM

I think this was a rare mistake by McConnel. He doesn’t usually let his emotions get the best of him.

His boss, Koch industries, really does not want the environmental bill passed. So they killed off a few veterans as revenge.

by Anonymousreply 18July 28, 2022 2:12 PM

I hope democrats take this message on the road to rural areas.

If they pick off even 5% they can take the country back and get it back on track.

by Anonymousreply 19July 28, 2022 2:13 PM

Your hopes will soon be dashed, R19. They fucking suck at messaging.

by Anonymousreply 20July 28, 2022 2:14 PM

Maybe they can get better at it.

by Anonymousreply 21July 28, 2022 2:18 PM

[quote] Anybody know why the Republicans voted down the Veterans Relief bill yesterday?

Because by and large, republicunts are parasitic scumbags, dear. When they get in the way of money, the military servicemembers that they proclaim they love so much can be discarded as easily as they discard the working class and children.

by Anonymousreply 23July 28, 2022 2:23 PM

The OP is posting all these political threads as intentional messaging on behalf of an organization. They aren’t organized and OP is drowning the board in them.

Yeah, Republicans are fucking assholes, but the OP is part of some subversive effort to deluge online forums and social media pages with this constant non-stop frantic call to arms.

Just so you know.

by Anonymousreply 24July 28, 2022 2:23 PM

Fuck you liar r24 I’m not going to let you defame me.

Fuck right off I’ve been here longer than the hills.

If anyone wants to pay me then feel free but I have every right to post what I want and don’t have to let this site be covered in fake issues.

by Anonymousreply 25July 28, 2022 2:27 PM

The republicans are desperate and waking them tightest rope they ever have and we are going to push them right off that rope.

People are sick of republicans shit and their bloodthirst for power.

by Anonymousreply 26July 28, 2022 2:28 PM

R24 car your lying tongue?

Just because the Republican trash gets paid to post here doesn’t give you the right to make blanket lies about posters on here.

That deserved a red tag. Stop harassing democrats and fuck off to red state dot org if you love them so much.

Enough of the Republican lies!!!

by Anonymousreply 27July 28, 2022 2:30 PM

R24 is a good example of Republican trolling and desperation to block any conversation that is not dictated by Fox News.

They can’t handle it. It makes their heads explode when you discuss real world issues.

They can’t win in those conditions.

by Anonymousreply 28July 28, 2022 2:31 PM

The come into these threads and make blanket announcements that are false like r24.

These people can’t tell the truth to Dave their pathetic lives.

by Anonymousreply 29July 28, 2022 2:31 PM

And then they scurry off and hide in the corner like cowards. They are bullies and snakes. Not worthy of public office.

by Anonymousreply 30July 28, 2022 2:32 PM

everything republicans touch turns to complete shit.

by Anonymousreply 31July 28, 2022 2:32 PM

They claim it added 400 million of "other" spending not related to the bill. Chuck Schumer voted against it as well.

by Anonymousreply 32July 28, 2022 2:33 PM

Just because you’re being paid to be here r24 using the donations of poor people on trailer parks who are being exploited by the RNC does not mean that everyone else is getting paid.

Not all of us are sickos who could stand to promote lies all day with a straight face. Some of us like to sleep at night.

by Anonymousreply 33July 28, 2022 2:34 PM

Because somebody has a genuine opinion, you get scared r24? Did you cry when a viewpoint was expressed that is not on fox? Did it hurt your feelings?

Why spring into action trying to defame the OP?

Republicans are scared most of all about one thing: the veil coming down and them being exposed. They will do anything to stop the veil from lifting. Look at the billions they spend. The destruction.

Anything so that their veil is never lifted.

by Anonymousreply 34July 28, 2022 2:37 PM

R24 is the paid troll here.

by Anonymousreply 35July 28, 2022 2:38 PM

Schumer voted against it when he saw it was going to not reach the 60-vote required by the filibuster. I believe his vote against it was some sort of procedural move to keep it alive somehow.

by Anonymousreply 36July 28, 2022 2:40 PM

R36 exactly, Shcumer tried to save the bill but these LIARS are doing what they do by mucking up the conversation and trying to blame democrats for Republican actions.

The question is why do people tolerate this crap?

by Anonymousreply 37July 28, 2022 2:42 PM

[quote] The OP is posting all these political threads as intentional messaging on behalf of an organization. They aren’t organized and OP is drowning the board in them.

Is it the same person? I was going to comment that the online political activists are out of control this morning. I wonder if it is paid shilling and if it will get much worse as we get closer to the election. As many people have noted, DL is an odd place for the activists to post their quota of comments, since there’s few to none undecided voters here.

by Anonymousreply 38July 28, 2022 2:43 PM

R24 needs to be red tagged so we know which trolls are trying to psychologically harass us.

This is not cool.

by Anonymousreply 39July 28, 2022 2:44 PM

Here comes the lying political sock puppets from the right wing shot stains who will not let democrats have a conversation without all the and smearing that republicans do.

Republicans are in for the biggest rude awaking that has happened to them in 40 years.

by Anonymousreply 40July 28, 2022 2:45 PM

R38 we all know you’re talking to another account of your own off with this 8th grade bullshit.

Enough people have died from republicans already . It’s a death cult.

by Anonymousreply 41July 28, 2022 2:46 PM

So far, only 15 replies out of 38 are not OP.

by Anonymousreply 42July 28, 2022 2:47 PM

This message scares the hell out of Republican trolls because it’s true.

Republicans hate veterans and now we have even more proof.

The veterans know it by the way. And after this expect a few to stay home in November.

by Anonymousreply 43July 28, 2022 2:48 PM

R42 that’s a much better ratio to your stupid anti-trans threads and 75 Megan Markle threads a day.

Get a life how are you even on here all day and all night do you sleep? Work?

Go get fucked once in a while.

by Anonymousreply 44July 28, 2022 2:50 PM

Are they paying me to say you’re a fucking loser, stalker and a bigot r42?

You’re complete trash and all your posts are garbage. Your provide no value here, only angst and disruption.

by Anonymousreply 45July 28, 2022 2:51 PM

The ignorance in this thread is enough.

See most of you don't know shit about the bill, most of you don't know about veterans and this really has nothing to do with them but your hate for republicans. . .

perhaps when you start speaking for veterans (there are several organizations and advocates that share your opinion), you'll notice more of a change than when you're speaking against republicans.

It would add 300 billion over 10 years but just for this march of dime shit. . . now yes, there are people that require help with the issue the bill is seeking to address, however what would be the potential consquences for everyone else?

For exampole, we could re-examine the cost of covid and look what happened to national funding for general healthcare and the sheer number of national grants that have yet to be renewed because of the lack of funding. While covid funding was necessary, so too, were the many grants that yet to be renewed and likely won't for the foreseeable future.

It's not as if they can simply print more money. . . govt spending is more taking from Peter to pay Paul.

So, who will you sacrifice for this bill?

Perhaps dependents and prenatal care?

Mental health? Homeless?

Quality doctors, nurses and other medical professionals/

Would you consider the VA as it is now to provide the best care?

by Anonymousreply 46July 28, 2022 2:52 PM

R42 Go back to England you’re throwing off the numbers here. People think this is an English site because you have no fucking life and you post all day.

Brexit was a scam and UK is an utter hellhole. Go fix you’re own Tory cesspit and leave us the fuck alone.

by Anonymousreply 47July 28, 2022 2:53 PM

Always talk about the truth with republicans. Stick to the facts. Their heads explode and they can’t take it.

It shuts down any trolling in its tracks.

by Anonymousreply 48July 28, 2022 2:54 PM

r48 because yes, getting one over on the republicans should be the top priority no matter what.,.. just as they should mindlessly focus on getting one over on the democrats. Yeah! They're all scum. Woohoo! Let's hate everything the other side does because it's the other side! Russian Agent Paul Rand has a bill with Corey Booker out, why is Russia seeking to get people hooked on psilocybin and mdma? is this part of the drug war? wtf? Is Corey a russian agent too?

by Anonymousreply 50July 28, 2022 3:00 PM

Stick to the facts or fall victim to psychological games from republicans.

It’s all they have.

They can never win on the truth.

by Anonymousreply 51July 28, 2022 3:03 PM

The fact is republicans blocked this to get revenge for Koch industries. Their main client and funder.

It’s that simple.

They said: “damn the veterans, if they die so be it. As long as we can pollute with impunity”

by Anonymousreply 52July 28, 2022 3:05 PM

r51 Yes, the truth is their satan's minions. We must fight the great satan for the very soul of this nation! Stop them at every turn! This about the veterans, even the magat veterans that know what's good for them they must convert or dieeeeeeeee! We must cleanse our party of the infidels. Corey Booker must pay!

by Anonymousreply 54July 28, 2022 3:06 PM

The fact is that republicans constantly sell out veterans, working people, they have forsaken rural America. Which looks like an apocalyptic hell scape now thanks to 50 years of Republican’s picking it clean and leaving nothing behind but rust and broken promises.

by Anonymousreply 55July 28, 2022 3:08 PM

of course, since I could recognize how the funding could negatively impact the numerous problems the VA has and yes, that means sacrificing spending towards those suffering from the pollutions.. which would only have a ten year period of relief unless said funding is renewed, adding more to the deficit and potentially raising your taxes, you didn't join the military why should you pay for them? They're just tools of the establishment to promote blind faith patriotism which is then manipulated by republicans to use, so no matter your position, you're still fucked by republicans. Shall we review the DL's opinions on veterans as a whole? The archive digging should be fun.

Since you're using this as an opportunity to try to convert veterans to your side... how exactly are you going to convert them if you're only concerned with the evil boogiemen republicans? How will you try to appeal to veterans and current military personnel? What is your messaging? Because you really can't approach them with just republicans are the worst, m'kay. Let's be honest here, the crowd that is the most vocal against them tends to come from the left rather the right. Yes, republicans suck. honestly, their spending is just as bad as democrats.

So, what are the issues that all veterans, not just those suffering issues potentially related to environmental pollution are facing?

(you know, just a hint: you could review how the govt responded to agent orange victims for decades... )

They are simply middle men. Common thugs.

by Anonymousreply 73July 28, 2022 4:26 PM

People like Jim Jordan are lowly pawns just trying to get a little pat on the back from the (Koch) boss.

It’s sad as well as extremely dysfunctional for the country.

by Anonymousreply 74July 28, 2022 4:28 PM

I guess they thought that no one would notice.

by Anonymousreply 75July 28, 2022 5:01 PM

R73 and R74 are correct.

And it’s extremely toxic and dysfunctional for our country.

For the troll here who wants to defend the GOP, I have a question:

Why can’t Republicans actually work and propose functional legislation and policy for Americans anymore?

What’s going on that all they do is focus on bullshit culture wars, as a distraction from how profoundly Americans are being harmed in order to protect the money and legacies of the 1%?

Republicans no longer represent the majority of Americans when you plug the numbers into a spreadsheet, and they have done irreparable harm to the poor in our country.

We don’t have to live like this, but we do because of GREED and while both parties suffer from this, Republicans are greedier than the Dems and are just plain fucking heartless.

Look, play your little games but you’ve gotta understand something. Most of us aren’t heartless sociopaths and psychopaths. We are built that way and we cannot operate like machines who feel nothing for no one. It’s not normal. It’s a rare pathology and it’s crazy to ask others to operate in such a manner.

But that’s what the GOP pushes on their constituents via FOX and other bullshit media. It’s a training ground for the dissemination of news to be viewed from a place of cruelty.

People care about others in the real world. We care about veterans, despite who they voted for. We care about others and don’t want to see them suffering, because it’s what makes us HUMAN.

I understand some on the GOP side do not understand this because they genuinely cannot feel empathy or compassion, but I believe the majority of them can and if I’m wrong, we’re going to destroy each other and ourselves.

by Anonymousreply 76July 29, 2022 7:55 AM

*We are not built that way

by Anonymousreply 77July 29, 2022 7:59 AM

The current Republican excuse is "pork," but when asked to actually be specific, they can't. They also can't respond to the slush fund with no oversight that they DID vote for without hesitation or the trillion given to the war machine itself. The things Jon Stewart brought up.

This isn't the first time they've pulled this bullshit, but you didn't hear about it because it involved "special interest." The Dems wanted to pass a vet bill to help with jobs once they came back from the bullshit wars, the scumbag GOP whores wanted to tack on meaningless, bellicose language towards Iran (this was a vet JOBS bill) because of fucking AIPAC and the Dems refused. The bill failed. So it wasn't enough that special interest was the reason they were made vets in the first place because they were sent to war based on lies, but now they wanted to set up a situation to create even more vets after another fucking war based on lies.

Any military person who votes Republican is in fact an asshole with no self-respect.

by Anonymousreply 78July 29, 2022 1:39 PM

They voted it down over spite, as they may now do with the bill to codify gay marriage. Susan Collins admits as much:

Sen. Susan Collins, one of a handful of GOP senators working to garner support in her party for a bill to codify gay marriage, said the Democrats’ surprise embrace of a tax and climate change bill made her job much harder.

“I just think the timing could not have been worse and it came totally out of the blue,” the Maine senator told HuffPost Thursday.

by Anonymousreply 79July 29, 2022 1:45 PM

The bill, from Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Kansas Republican Sen. Jerry Moran, has been bogged down for nearly two months as U.S. lawmakers debated whether to bring amendments to the floor and how exactly to fix a minor part of the bill that stalled the process in the House.

Some members had objected because the federal government would pay for the bill’s $278.5 billion cost through mandatory rather than discretionary spending.

Mandatory spending includes entitlement programs like Social Security, and is set in law and in effect indefinitely. Under discretionary spending, members of Congress would control the funding each year through the appropriations process.

Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, said there had been an agreement between Tester and Moran for two amendment votes, but Democratic leaders have not scheduled those votes. Cornyn said the hope is for further negotiations to “eliminate some of the mandatory spending in the bill and the bill can pass.”

Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Pat Toomey said in a brief interview after the vote that he wanted to address a “budget gimmick” in the bill that he believes would lead to an increase in spending unrelated to providing health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits.

Toomey said he had “no quarrel with” the legislation creating $278.5 billion in new spending during the next decade that would be classified as “mandatory.”

Toomey’s opposition to the bill comes from a separate section of the package that “would authorize $400 billion over the next 10 years of existing spending … to be switched from discretionary to mandatory.”

“And the reason for that, is to create a $40 billion annual hole in discretionary spending under the cap,” Toomey said. “And allow all kinds of spending on who knows what.”

Tester said that going along with Toomey’s proposed changes to the bill would tie the hands of the Appropriations Committee in the future.

“This is about not even trusting the people in this body. We have an Appropriations Committee and we vote on appropriations bills,” Tester said, clearly furious. “Let the process work. Let’s not tie the hands of appropriators. Let’s make sure we let the process work. That’s what we’ve always done.”

by Anonymousreply 80July 29, 2022 2:06 PM

Sad that people will die for fighting for their country but 10 years later. While waiting on Mitch.

Mitch plays golf and lives very well off the public dime. No problem with his insurance.

by Anonymousreply 81July 29, 2022 2:08 PM

This so so awful when you think about it.

They killed off some veterans right there on the hill. The republicans might as well have executed the veterans on the mall.

by Anonymousreply 82July 29, 2022 2:12 PM

The veterans execute themselves by voting overwhelmingly for the Republican party. As I said earlier, this isn't the first vet bill that failed due to the Republicans. So fuck any vet who uses the "congress won't help us" line to absolve the ONE party that stands in the way of helping them. Had it been the Dems who did this, you can guarantee those same vets would make sure to use *Democrats* but because so many of them are racists who vote Republican, they don't have the guts to specifically go after the Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 83July 29, 2022 2:19 PM

sometimes you give Republicans too much credit. when they are voting for something the only thoughts they have are: will this keep companies from donating to me. can I use this as revenge. can I make money from this. can I achieve power from this.

Those are their only thoughts. They never think about who it will affect, except for themselves. This vote wasn't against Vets. It was a retaliation vote.

by Anonymousreply 84July 29, 2022 2:35 PM

Hey, we give them PX privileges for cheap groceries and clothes. What more do they want?

by Anonymousreply 85July 29, 2022 2:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 86July 29, 2022 2:40 PM

R84, you've said it all.

That's their only motivation.

by Anonymousreply 87July 29, 2022 2:43 PM

Perhaps that was the motive

But cutting them off from insurance was the action they took. That’s just plain eveil.

Motive doesn’t matter. It’s what they did that counts. It doesn’t excuse them from the consequences.

by Anonymousreply 88July 29, 2022 2:46 PM

We know what the Republicans will always do: The (rhetorical) question is: Why do most military and low income white people keep voting for them knowing the GOP policies never benefit them?

by Anonymousreply 89July 29, 2022 2:51 PM

Good question r89.

Actually, it’s THE question of 2022.

Remember, these are the same people who didn’t care if their own families died of COVID. They will do anything — ANYTHING— to own the libs.

This is my favorite way of them owning me. Please keep it up!

Rick Scott tweeted this simultaneously to voting against veterans:

Additionally, Jon Tester is actually the type of red state Democrat that Manchin pretends to be. He's deliberative and conscientious while playing the long game effectively.

Wow good post r95.

This is not going away.

by Anonymousreply 96July 29, 2022 3:52 PM

Can this not be undone when McConnell is ousted as senate majority leader after the midterms?

by Anonymousreply 97July 29, 2022 3:52 PM

I expect huge protests this weekend. I will happily join.

This is so wrong for republicans to screw over veterans once again. They always do this. But this is over the top even for them.

by Anonymousreply 98July 29, 2022 3:52 PM

"Why do most military and low income white people keep voting for them knowing the GOP policies never benefit them?"

Because attacking the perceived left is so much more gratifying and cathartic. They say all emotions seek an object. Well the right-wing media sewer system has been quite effective at ginning up volcanic anger and giving their viewers an object to focus all of that rage on. A villain. And gullible MAGATS need a villain to give their life a sense of meaning and purpose. It feels exhilarating. It supersedes all other issues.

R99 doesn’t that have its limits though. It was all fun and games a few years ago but now grandma and mama are dead from Covid, sis is in a wheelchair because we can afford insulin and a now the power is shut off because we can’t afford the bill and the new foreign owners are raising the rent at the mobile home park.

I think the owning libs thing is wearing off. Dems have an opportunity here. Deplorables want real reforms now and deep down know that republicans will never give them that.

by Anonymousreply 100July 29, 2022 4:00 PM

R97, McConnell is not the majority leader.

by Anonymousreply 101July 29, 2022 4:02 PM

Owning the Lina was fun j til everyone sobered up and realized all the dead people and the lakes and rivers started glowing green and flooding upp over twice all the water marks.

Maybe there are real problems afterall. CRT is not holding these people back. But the republicans are.

Re: R95

[quote] At least four Senate Rs — Rick Scott, Mitt Romney, Cindy Hyde-Smith and Steve Daines — tweeted support for US troops within hours, in some cases minutes, of blocking a bill meant to expand health care benefits for vets exposed to toxic chemicals.

The Republicrats celebrated their vote.

"I hope democrats take this message on the road to rural areas."

We don't know how to campaign, attack opponents or tout our achievements.

R89, Trump voters are frequently caricatured as drug-addicted hillbillies. In fact, like most Republican candidates, he had strong support among wealthy white people. He didn't do that well with the military. In fact, one of Trump's reasons for attacking on the results in states such as Michigan was that the overseas military vote did not break in his favor. Pre-election polls showed that the majority of currently-serving troops supported Biden.

Here’s a great clip about this. Love the veteran, John.

The Dems should have attached the bill to a tax cut for the rich. Guaranteed passage.

The list of naysayers should be on the front page of every newspaper, especially those around military bases.
