It's extremely uncomfortable and difficult to do take after take. The furthest end of the spectrum is something like Uma Thurman being forced into the car accident by Tarantino (and Weinstein) even though she wasn't comfortable with it. Spielberg and co decided to try and publicly hang her for it instead of just keeping quiet, but probably didn't expect her to become such a massive movie star anyway.
