R2: I read somewhere that she thought of herself as more of an talented actress than a talented singer, which is a head scratcher. This special box for her Oscar seems to confirm that belief.

*a* talented actress

Everything about her and that photo is grotesque. OP knows that. Striezand was laughed off the globe when that was published. It's one of her album covers!! She's a personal and professional monster. She had a very good voice. Beautiful tone and technique. Yet, she's not a great singer. Far from one of the greats.
Those awards and swollen ankles won't keep your name relevant Barbaric Streusel.

Perhaps she keeps her non-competitive honorary awards in a separate room, along with her EGOT certificate that has an asterisk after the name.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 24, 2022 3:31 PM |
She's been recording for 60 years. She struggled during the early 1960's, her life wasn't always perfection.
And as far as her "Mall" is concerned, I'd have something like that, too, if I had a fantastic career such as hers.
When I buy a multi-bedroom house, I would like to have a dedicated room to my early/past life. It won't be as large/grand a collection as she has, but I think it would be nice to have a room full of memories.

R61 yes. Im unsure why they gave her this bs Tony to begin with, other than to possibly boost ratings. Barbra was long done with Broadway by this time. It wasn’t like she won the Oscar and then went back and was going to build on her already big stardom on stage. She couldn’t win the competitive one so just leave it at that.

I'm one of her biggest fans (as a singer) and I can't comprehend her wealth. She's got to be one of the richest woman and what do you do with all that money? Buy homes, create separate rooms full of antiques that no one can touch or sit on. It's all very fashionable and chic and pretty and overwhelming..........but where does she go when she just wants to kick back, relax, smoke a joint and have some ice cream? Is there at least One Lazy room where the TV is and she sits around in a t-shirt and undies while stuff just lays around the room without being picked up by the housekeeper? I heard she is worth $ 400 Million. My mind is boggled. Just keep singing, Barbra, for as long as you can.

I enjoy Streisand a lot… (surprisingly, tho, not in the films she directed.) She’s very talented in all areas, funny, sensual, has compelling looks, a good body, and that inner magnetism that makes someone interesting to watch. I’m not a big huge fan but I certainly admire her talents.
She seems like a rudely self involved person, though. Other stars are, too, (it’s one of the ways they stick with it, and keep fighting for attention once they’ve arrived) but they’re better at hiding it. Like, you can’t imagine Nick Nolte being really mean to someone, even though he’s had publicly drunken arrests. But when someone posted here about their friend and some other workers dropping off a heavy furniture order at Babs’ garage and reorganizing it all throughout a sweltering hot day and her ordering them around yet never offering them water or ANYTHING… yesssshh, THAT’S CUNTY STREISAND!!
There’s probably an element of sexism here. We expect women to be somehow soft and maternal at heart, so it really stands out when we hear about “bitches.”
by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 26, 2022 6:55 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 111 | July 26, 2022 7:01 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 26, 2022 7:09 PM |
She’s a 80 now and mostly focused on being a grandmother to her Brolin half and giving money away- yes she has incredible collections and all the trappings of great wealth. Fact is much of the art is bequeathed to museums, she’s quite stable, and for a “self obsessed woman” does as much or more for those who need help than any of her peers. So I think she thinks pretty seriously if others, including tgexLGBT community for decades.

[quote] David Frost clearly states here that Barbra is "the first person to ever have won all 4 major awards!" So, the Tony Awards clearly considered her Tony to be a competitive award that completed her EGOT.
What a bankrupt argument.
#1: David Frost had nothing to do with the Broadway stage, even if they made him the presenter of the award. He was a TV show host.
#2: He can call it whatever he wants, but CLEARLY it was a non-competitive award. They did not present a list of other candidates, nor did they have people who voted on the other awards vote for it. Obviously they gave it to Streisand because she was a big movie star at the time and they wanted to draw more viewers to the awards ceremony.

Donating money is commendable, but a lot of other celebrities are out there doing the same thing. So I don't get what really sets her apart from anybody else. I've seen celebrities take time from their schedules to feed homeless people or do volunteer work for the red cross. Somehow, I don't picture Barbra doing that.
She can't even take stray animals in. She insists on getting her deceased dog cloned multiple times, because nothing else is apparently good enough for her demented pefectionism.
That doesn't strike me as very stable. She's comes off as a bit of a loon if we're being honest.;
by Anonymous | reply 118 | July 26, 2022 7:21 PM |
Someone up thread asked what ultra wealthy Streisand does with all her time. In this interview (which is of course cultivated toward how she wants to be seen) she says she likes to do “private things”… putter around the house and garden, decorate, read, spend time with family etc. (Not, presumably, her sister Roslyn, however.)
When you’re a superstar it’s a drain to go out after a while. She’s done it, and she’s had it. I guess it’s more fun spending her time buying Renoirs online at this point.

That's why she tours. Which is what she so lovingly told her fans the reason. Imagine your voice is shit and twenty years past your prime and you still can't be bothered to lie to your fans and tell them you're performing for them. No, you're doing it because you want to buy a painting. Nice. But then again, she's always been tactless, and she thinks that tactlessness makes her endearing. It doesn't.

Streisand should revive Gypsy on Broadway, instead of the film version she was planning to do. That will ensure her a competitive Tony.

[quote]David Frost had nothing to do with the Broadway stage, even if they made him the presenter of the award. He was a TV show host.
Streisand probably PICKED David Frost, they gave her a few suggestions and he got the job. Frost was very big in New York and on TV talk shows in 1969-72. She must have "liked" him, which means he knew his place, sucked up and didn't challenge her.
charlie (R113), always the same, always the same post.

Why didn't she play Sue Mengers on Broadway instead of Bette? She would love to talk about herself for 2 hours

R83, yes, that ship sailed and you were on it, Dear. I'm fine, thank you. You needn't worry your little tartan head off.

[quote]So I don't get what really sets her apart from anybody else. I've seen celebrities take time from their schedules to feed homeless people or do volunteer work for the red cross. Somehow, I don't picture Barbra doing that.
I'm not famous at all and I wouldn't even fucking do that. No way I'm spending time around filthy disgusting homeless pieces of shit. Who cares if Barbra doesn't?
by Anonymous | reply 138 | July 26, 2022 10:04 PM |
R138 you sound like a real piece of work.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | July 26, 2022 10:09 PM |

You get the tenor of this thread from 141. Sad. One wonders why she has bothered to be an advocate for the LGBT community when you read the bullshit on this thread.

r143 is so morally righteous. God, what a tiresome cunt.

"OMFG why isn't Barbra Streisand volunteering for the homeless and the Red Cross and adopting stray animals? WHY?"
What are you, fucking retarded?

charlie, Barbra Streisand ONLY became a friend (advocate is over doing it) to the LGBT community after her son came out to her.

In 1985 she had 50% of the profits from the single "Somewhere" from her Broadway Album go directly to AmFar, for AIDS research.
the other 50% went to an anti-Nuclear group

[quote]R124 Why did she never go back to Broadway?
She doesn’t like singing the same material over and over again, reportedly.
Plus I’d imagine it doesn’t pay enough.
Fir all her talk about wanting to be a serious actress early on, she should have done Cleopatra for Joseph Papp or something. She did scenes where she was Juliet and Sally Kirkland was Romeo fir a while at the Actirs Studio or somewhere. She could have developed that.

Barbaric is cheap. There are many far more generous celebrities, with their time and money.
Streisand likes HER name on things. She does nothing quietly or without recognition.

[quote]r129 A good body? Have you seen her in the last 30 years???
BITCH, I’m talking about when she was in movies, her screen persona… not how she is in her 80s, now!
She did have a good body, and she kept in good shape. She had full (enough) breasts, long legs. The designer Arnold Scaasi worked with her a lot for a while, and admired her proportions.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | July 27, 2022 1:31 AM |
R146, that shows you how much you know about Barbra Streisand. Yours is a completely false statement. Her foundation was making grants to LGBT initiative years before Jason was outed by tabloids. And even if what you said is true, what would be wrong with that. And by the way- she has never uttered one word about Jason’s sexuality.

[quote]She had full (enough) breasts
Are you the Streisand was a sex symbol troll? She had ordinary B-cups when at reasonable weight. Those "full breasts" you see in many photos are the result of padding and push up brassieres, and there's nothing wrong with that. Today, the fullness is because she's 100 pounds overweight.

Absolutely amazing for being awarded for the act of screaming which is what passes for singing.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | July 28, 2022 2:35 AM |
R160, Babs nixed the one brief topless scene, so she was not nude in that movie.
For the record, Streisand played a $20 hooker in The Owl and the Pussycat, more realistic than the Nuts version.

Evergold
Like a shrine, over the basement mall,
My awards room is certainly full!
Trophies, sparking and evergold,
I've got quite the haul!
In my flowing gown, clasping a rose,
Everyday I count them,
Oscar, Emmy, many Grammys too,
They warm and excite me,
Cause I have the most awards of all.
A thousand prizes that shine as one,
My morning glory and my midnight sun!
All mine: I have won the most!
All mine: you can hear me boast!
Awards, countless and ever, evergold!
