OP, this looks like a real, campy treat I’ll be enjoying this weekend.. many thanks for sharing!

by Anonymousreply 1July 15, 2022 8:03 PM

So many good lines. Joan Cusack should’ve gotten an Oscar nomination.

by Anonymousreply 2July 15, 2022 8:48 PM

R1 Have you seen the first one?! Please watch The Addams Family (1991) then this movie. It is a campy treat.

Debbie fondling Fester's cock with the saxophone music was an entire generation's sexual awakening.

R4 Joan Cusack and Anjelica Huston were hot in this film

by Anonymousreply 5July 15, 2022 11:19 PM

I always loved this better than the first one. I think it's considered one of those sequels that outdid the original and it found a huge fanbase from getting reran on Fox and ABC Family so much. You knew Christina Ricci was going places with her awesome portrayal of Wednesday.

by Anonymousreply 6July 31, 2022 3:23 PM

A gay camp-fest of biblical/demonic proportions! Not to be missed.

by Anonymousreply 7July 31, 2022 3:29 PM

But Debbie… pastels?

No “The”.

by Anonymousreply 10July 31, 2022 3:45 PM

I hated "Debbie" which, I guess is a testament to Joan Cusack's good acting. I loved her in the movie "In and Out"

The first film is pretty forgettable, but Addams Family Values is a treat and is far better than it had any need to be.

It’s silly and sexy and clever, and the humour is still sharp and cutting - more so than most comedies were then or have been since.

Paul Rudnick is a god. Kinda cute, too.

Even the title, "Addams Family Values" was a dig at Republican rhetoric about "family values"

by Anonymousreply 16July 31, 2022 4:05 PM

r16 a dig utilizing a tradition nuclear family with 2.5 kids and a stay at home mom?

by Anonymousreply 17July 31, 2022 4:09 PM

^ Yes, the hypocrisy that Republicans represented anything BUT, "family values"

by Anonymousreply 18July 31, 2022 4:13 PM

r16 so, so, so many unaware republicans calling themselves democrats and trying to destroy the party from the inside with what they deem as digs at republicans when it actually boosts their propaganda and other rhetoric.

by Anonymousreply 19July 31, 2022 4:14 PM

^ Oh, shut up you boring old troll. Geez, don't they even give you Sunday off in Russia? Love that slave labor mentality 😏

by Anonymousreply 20July 31, 2022 4:19 PM

The Addams Family were despised by the town they lived in because they looked and behaved oddly. Yet the irony is they were a loving family who got along and they were very friendly and hospitable to everyone. And the conservative middle-class folk in town were boring, nasty, rude and petty. It was definitely a satire on hypocrisy and American conformity at least the TV and film adaptations. The original sitcom being from the 1960s around the Civil Rights Movement and counterculture taking off certainly helped. Morticia and Gomez had a very egalitarian marriage and it implied they had a very active sex life too, always using terms of endearment, kissing and hugging. The original cartoons in the New Yorker seemed more like a typical dark comedy.

by Anonymousreply 21July 31, 2022 4:22 PM

^ Good observation, characters like the Addams Family and the Munsters were often used to point out that just because someone acted or looked different they had the same dreams, frustrations and aspirations as anyone else

by Anonymousreply 22July 31, 2022 4:29 PM

You know you're in for a treat just from the beginning sequence.

Jesus, it’s stunning to think this movie is almost thirty years old.

by Anonymousreply 24July 31, 2022 4:48 PM

^ Which proves how good it was. It's still very watchable today

by Anonymousreply 25July 31, 2022 4:51 PM

That’s not really my point, r25. It’s also stunning to think the movie “Leprechaun” is almost 30 years old, and it’s a terrible movie.

by Anonymousreply 26July 31, 2022 5:03 PM

^ Ok, I still think it's very watchable today 🙄

by Anonymousreply 27July 31, 2022 5:10 PM

Christine Baranski, Peter MacNichol, and the summer camp scenes steal the movie.

Gary and Becky Martin-Grainger were camp directors from Hell. It's also funny that Baranski towers over MacNichol.

by Anonymousreply 30July 31, 2022 5:25 PM

Debbie: "My first husband. The heart surgeon! All day long--coronaries, transplants!"

Grandmama: "What about your needs?"

I love Carol Kane.

by Anonymousreply 31July 31, 2022 5:27 PM

That's the biggest irony- Debbie finally found a family who accepted her as her.

by Anonymousreply 32July 31, 2022 5:33 PM

"I'm just like any modern woman trying to have it all. Loving husband, a family. It's just, I wish I had more time to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade. "

R33 Same Morticia, same.

by Anonymousreply 34July 31, 2022 5:37 PM

Angelica Huston and Raul Julia were better than the originals.

by Anonymousreply 35July 31, 2022 5:41 PM

Raul Julia was a very sexy man.

by Anonymousreply 41July 31, 2022 6:30 PM

I love Harriet Hansom Harris as the pastel wearing wealthy summer camp mother

by Anonymousreply 42September 5, 2024 10:14 PM

I miss Raúl Juliá. He was a wonderful actor and a good person.

October 24 will mark the 30th anniversary of his death. Fuck cancer.

I did a project on Rail Julia’s son. I wonder if he remembers how crazy in the face I was looking during our first meeting cause I had abused Adderall.

Hannah and Her Sisters, The Insider, 30 Rock, The Sound of Music Psycho, Debette Goldry, and now this fine film.

Joan Cusack is absolutely sensational -- and surprisingly gorgeous -- in this movie. Unbetterable. But it's fun to imagine how the originally cast actress might have played it . . . Kathleen Turner.
