Is David Mamet unequivocally persona non grata in the entertainment universe, except for his star turn plays?

If David Mamet's persona non grata anywhere, he only has himself to blame. Look at the plays he's written -- what was the last major work he offered on Broadway? By my reckoning, it's been at least 25 years.

One could easily argue that it's remarkable how many chances he's continued to get on Broadway, despite his views.

In what way is he persona non grate? He was one of the most successful American playwrights of the 20th century, and some of his most successful work was most definitely not PC. So a little hard to argue now he's been canceled just because his reactionary attitude isn't seen as refreshingly provocative anymore.

R14 Broadway in general is not doing well. Several shows have already announced their closings for July and August which is usually a very busy time for Broadway. The revival of Company with Patti LuPhone closed last month.

He gave a lecture at Columbia University in about 1997 where he completely and accurately lambasted the administration. It was a wonderful evening.

I have been licensed to practice law in Texas for 30 years. Despite Mamet's characteristic bravado I have never come across his use of the term "Texas Verdict" as he describes. But then again I have never had to rationalize an illegal attempt to cheat college admissions. Artistic license I assume.
