Contra is really popular with my more political friends. She's an academic who wants to be known as an artist, but the aesthetics are very Tumblr-y. Overrated, but I guess she's a gateway into critical thought, something most people my age have no experience with. Philosophy needs to be a required course like math. Pretty sure she's been canceled a couple times for associating with a "transphobic" trans person. Mabye it was Buck Angel? can't remember.

She got cancelled for using Buck Angel's voice briefly in one video, and cancelled again for saying she's uncomfortable with "CIS people" introducing themselves to her with their pronouns, because it reminds her they know she's trans. The non binary SS decided that was an unforgivable slight against them because of their life-saving need for the pronoun game. She references that crowd in this video suggesting they pushed her into addiction.

I find his aesthetics forced and actually rather dull. The classical music to show that he can do classy as well as trashy (the latter being customary for "trans women") is also overdone. He's raking in loads of money from patrons and went almost a year without making a video at one point.

What I've noticed recently on this broader topic is that more and more people are coming at the transgender question from their own belief system whereas, until now, people felt that they had to criticise transgenderism specifically as a misogynist, men's rights activist movement. JP is a good person. His downfall is a tendency to catastrophise, to take trends and see them playing out to the worst possible outcome. JP's messiah complex is the one thing that stood out to me from the very beginning of his ascent to fame. That and the fact that he is obviously identifying with many of his troubled young male fans.
