Bunheads (2012-2013)
This was Amy Sherman-Pallodino's series about a Las Vegas showgirl (played by Sutton Foster) who marries a man on a whim and moves to his sleepy coastal town where she winds up working alongside her new mother-in-law (played by Gilmore Girls' alum Kelly Bishop) at her ballet school (hence the nickname "bunheads").
It lasted only one season. Sutton Foster, fresh from her Tony Award-winning performance in Anything Goes, left the Broadway smash in the Spring to film this TV show. It was a hit with critics and developed a sort of cult hit status among fans, but none of that was enough to save it, and after 18 episodes the show was cancelled.

Sutton Foster is an odd actress. She has a superb voice, though.

Sutton wasn’t very good in this. Hadn’t yet figured out how to make her acting smaller for the camera.

She's spectacular on stage but that doesn't always translate to the screen.

I really liked this show. I decided to give it a chance after rejecting it as a GLEE knockoff. Pleasantly surprised by the characters and lovely story.

Never got the chance to watch this. Nor did i realise Sutton was the lead.

It was cute. I was never sure how they would sustain the story but it was fun. Anything with Kelly Bishop is worthwhile.

The show had a nice look to it. Lots of autumnal brown colours in the cinematography. Sutton never quite felt natural on screen but I came to enjoy her quirky charisma and the easy 'rainy day Sunday viewing' quality the show had. I would have watched maybe one more season anyway, but it felt like it at least got seen by enough people and isn't totally forgotten.

I watched this! I actually quite liked it. It wasn't as amphetamine laden as Gilmore Girls, which I liked. And the mean girl lead was fantastic.
As was Bishop, of course.

Practice audition for Ginny (later to be Imogene from Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)

Amy Sherman-Pallodino definitely has a type. Sutton Foster and Lauren Graham could be sisters. I started watching Etoile yesterday (the jury is still out on this one) and then went down an Amy Sherman-Pallodino rabbit hole and started watching Bunheads too, which I did not know existed. It is a lot like GG, as a poster above said, but less manic.

When it comes to Amy Sherman-Pallodino, I have sufficient.

I loved this show, but then I'm just an old dancing queen.

The title of this show is one of the worst things to name anything ever.

I just watched a couple of episodes of this show not too long ago. There wasn’t a lot of story in the episodes I saw, but I really liked Sutton.

For R2 : Joanna Gleason had the same problem.
