Jack Monroe is EXHAUSTING.

Congratulations for making me feel sympathy and side with dork-ass Jamie Oliver, you nasty piece of work.

You’ll thank me for not recommending the tinned peach curry or the fish paste pasta.

Someone's collated all Monroe's lies.

She's quite the con artist.

What is this thread “about?”

by Anonymousreply 3August 24, 2022 5:22 PM

R3 Minor celebrity cook Jack Monroe, known for her budget recipes and life of poverty has been exposed as being a serial liar and none of her story making sense.

Probably only a story in the UK as I don't think she was particularly well-known elsewhere but it's proper DL material. She is, of course, non-binary and a complete grifter. She's been trending on UK twitter for a few weeks now.

Jack Monroe reminds me of an elaborate catfish. She has told so many lies that she simply can't keep a consistent story.

The latest tweet is how amazing it is that she's moving into a home where for the first time she can paint the walls the colour of her choice, except she tweeted a while back about the colours she painted a previous home.

Of course she could be very forgetful, or she could just be a liar.

by Anonymousreply 5November 19, 2022 6:21 PM

She also posted about her wonderful £8 haircut and filtered out the Tiffany earrings she was wearing. Also love how she was posting about selling a 14-seater oak dining table yet also has complained about living in a tiny hovel.

1. You'd need a pretty spacious kitchen or dining room to fit a 14-seater dining table. 2. Oak dining tables of that size are not cheap. Could she not have sold that instead of 'boiling down soap to make shower gel'?

She's insane.

Yeah she's posted about how she was on 200+ units of alcohol a week (which is a staggering amount). That amount of alcohol isn't cheap. No wonder she couldn't afford to pay her bills and was begging on Patreon. She's published 7 books so I really don't know how she can still pretend to be so poor, unless, of course, she's a liar.

by Anonymousreply 9November 19, 2022 6:45 PM

Is Jamie Oliver a closet-case bisexual btw? Heard years ago that him & his farmer mate with the pigs (Jimmy was his name, I want to say?) were fucking, but I didn't really look into it because they're both a bit fug and Jamie is cringe, so I don't care if they've had relations.

by Anonymousreply 10November 19, 2022 6:46 PM

Remember when she was a tranny for a few weeks? She is fucking tiresome.

Why are so many dykes pathological liars?

by Anonymousreply 14November 19, 2022 9:33 PM

"Jack" first featured in The Guardian 18 years ago under her deadname of Melissa Hadjicostas.

It's really hard to believe that a couple who have fostered so many vulnerable children would allow their own child to experience poverty.

She's always deleting her account and then coming back.

It's 6 months since she said she'd sue a (horrible) Tory MP who said she'd profited from the poor. No updates.

Has Monroe not figured out that soap works perfectly well in bar form?

by Anonymousreply 20November 24, 2022 7:46 AM

Oooh that link at R4 is juicy. Throwing a tantrum about Jamie Oliver being given a TV series based on lockdown cooking and acting like cheap cooking was her specific domain - those tweets make her look like an unstable nutjob.

by Anonymousreply 21November 24, 2022 8:10 AM

I like it when she posts her quarterly appeal for complim.... I mean sobriety updates.

Four days sober—look at my glossy hair; my bright eyes; my glowing skin; my inner radiance bursting through pore. I am hydrated. I am lush. I am victorious. Swipe to see me last Sunday, at my lowest point EVER. Utterly lifeless; loose teeth; bloody gums; clumps of blue-white flesh dropping off in the shower. Although the darkness is always taunting me, I vow to be grateful that I have a cabbage and two dented tins of chickpeas. I vow to be fearless. Look at me.

by Anonymousreply 22November 24, 2022 8:36 AM

Another question is why dykes are so often alcoholics.

by Anonymousreply 23November 24, 2022 8:41 AM

I think she's dreadful and always have. She only gets work because she's pushy and fills the occasional need for diversity. Her lies and self-pity are relentless.

by Anonymousreply 24November 24, 2022 8:42 AM

Her latest book has been pulled as it contains dangerous advice. She's insane.

by Anonymousreply 25January 4, 2023 9:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 27January 5, 2023 9:44 AM

If anyone is confused about borderline personality disorder, see Monroe, Jack.

(Thanks for the rabbit hole, OP - I had forgotten about her/it/them!)

by Anonymousreply 28January 5, 2023 12:14 PM

To add to my above comment: the frustrating thing is that Jack is actually a decent enough writer and an attractive person - she/he/zir didn’t need to make up all these fantasies to have a good, solid career and a fulfilling life but she couldn’t help herself. I feel for her son and hope he has plenty of outside influence and support.

by Anonymousreply 29January 5, 2023 12:25 PM

R26 The e-book was pulled and had the dangerous advice edited out.

by Anonymousreply 30January 5, 2023 12:26 PM

Jack Monroe/Melissa Hadjicostas is a total head case.

One of the Twitter posts commenting on her "if you can't get a can opener, use a knife and hammer to open a tin!" advice pointed out that publishing is such a middle class dominated profession that very few people who read the drafts would have seen it as patronising shite.

by Anonymousreply 31January 5, 2023 7:17 PM

Does she use a lot of transfat in her dishes?

by Anonymousreply 32January 5, 2023 7:33 PM

Are books even edited these days? How did the advice even get past the legal department?

by Anonymousreply 33January 5, 2023 11:53 PM

There was no "dangerous advice." She said that if you don't have a can opener, you can use a knife and a hammer to open a can. The people who obsess over her had a fit about it.

There's no evidence it was pulled, just some people on Twitter who say the publisher totally pulled it and edited it out but hid it from everyone so there's no proof but you gotta believe them, bro, it totally happened.

by Anonymousreply 34January 6, 2023 1:36 PM

R34 She also suggested using a frozen glass bottle as substitute rolling pin.

by Anonymousreply 35January 6, 2023 1:44 PM

I realize now that they're talking about the FREE ebook that was offered up at the same time as the book went on sale, and it's not the ebook version of her latest publication. It was just some PDF of a few recipes, not the book itself.

Weren't you guys the same ones shrieking about how she lies all the time? You do too, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 36January 6, 2023 1:48 PM

[quote]Are books even edited these days? How did the advice even get past the legal department?

It was edited by posh people who don't use canned products and don't know that a can opener is dirt cheap.

The Trussell Trust, the charity who oversee a lot of food banks in the UK, had this to say

[quote]Whilst Jack and BookShop have agreed to donate a number of books for our food banks, we don’t have any editorial control of the content. The safety of people who use food banks is our priority and food banks aim to help people access essentials such as tin openers if needed (1/2)

[quote]The publishers have assured us that they’re taking action. The books that will be donated to our food banks will contain an addendum that addresses any health and safety concerns and we will not be distributing any books via our food banks in the current form. (2/2)

by Anonymousreply 37January 6, 2023 4:09 PM

^ oof. Liability issues up the wazoo, if the edition with the tips are not being distributed at food banks.

From what I gather, food banks frequently stock tin openers anyway, and you can buy one for under a pound.

by Anonymousreply 38January 6, 2023 4:18 PM

When you live in the UK and have heard absolutely nothing and realise that this entire thread is just social media hysterics, after all, us Brits love to kick people who have made a name for themselves and bring them down, and to fight for those that are down to be up, I guess the only safe place for anyone is to be in transit between being the plucky underdog and the made something of themselves states.

by Anonymousreply 39January 6, 2023 5:11 PM

R39 I'm a Brit and she's being taken down left, right and centre. Her lies are being called out all over the place. She's been trending on Twitter for weeks and not in a good way.

by Anonymousreply 40January 6, 2023 5:16 PM

[quote]When you live in the UK and have heard absolutely nothing and realise that this entire thread is just social media hysterics, after all, us Brits love to kick people who have made a name for themselves and bring them down, and to fight for those that are down to be up, I guess the only safe place for anyone is to be in transit between being the plucky underdog and the made something of themselves states.

Two things are possible at the same time.

1. Jack Monroe has done *some* good in highlighting the issue of food poverty and her libel victory over Katie Hopkins was magnificent. Many of the attacks on her are motivated purely on political grounds.

2. Jack Monroe is a compulsive liar and a grifter who cosplays as a working class common person despite a middle class and privileged upbringing. She has exaggerated the poverty she experienced beyond any recognition of reality. Many people defending her do so solely on political grounds, they overlook the lies because she's left wing and being criticised by the right wing.

I'm also very uneasy that her profile has made it easier for it to be argued that people can be expected to survive and feed themselves/their family for a tiny amount of money.

by Anonymousreply 41January 6, 2023 7:23 PM

The Guardian's interview with Monroe is meant to be sympathetic but fucking come on!!!

[quote]What have they got against you? “They think I’m a fake. They think I was never really poor, my parents are millionaires, I’m a millionaire, and I made all of this up for a bit of attention.” The trolling has had a huge impact on her mentally. “But if I disappear, they’ve won, haven’t they? They’ve got what they wanted,” she says. “And there is a reason why I’m doing what I do after 10 years, because I think some people find it a bit fucking useful.” Has she ever felt like disappearing? “Oh yes. Absolutely. Either into obscurity. Or into the sea. Or off the end of a pier.”

[quote]When people contacted Monroe on social media to ask how much money she had made on Patreon or what has happened to the money (she has 643 followers at the time of writing), she declined to answer and said she was being bullied. It wasn’t a good look.

[quote]People say you’ve taken money, I start to say. “Yes: ‘She’s a fraud, she’s a liar, a thief, a chancer.’ I’ve heard it all.” How do you answer that – you don’t seem like a fraud to me, but it does look as if you’ve taken a lot of money. “I’ve been an absolute chaos. I’ve been very ill, physically and mentally.”

[quote]I ask if the simple truth is that lots of the money was spent on alcohol. “I was drinking a lot so I was losing work left, right and centre because I was unreliable and chaotic. I was spending money.” Were you spending recklessly? “Yes!” she says instantly, with what sounds like a sense of relief. “Oh my God! You can go online and buy furniture. That’s what I used to do. I’d go online absolutely shitfaced and buy nice furniture.” What was the most excessive thing you bought? “Sideboards.” How many? “Four!” She is laughing, out of embarrassment. “One day after the next. It turned up and I didn’t like it. And then I got another and another and another.” Did you have space for them? “Course I didn’t have space.” How much did they cost? “About £300 each. Like I say, I’m a chaos.”

[quote]Monroe does not deny that she has abused the goodwill of well-meaning backers. What she does insist is that she’s not a fraud, hasn’t committed fraud, and hasn’t made pots of money from those who have financially backed her. If you’d been earning £1m a year, I start to say. She finishes my sentence. “I would have spent it.” The irony is stark and uncomfortable. The guru of thriftiness was chucking away tens of thousands of pounds, given to her by the public to support her work, on items she didn’t even want, let alone need.

by Anonymousreply 43January 7, 2023 12:37 PM

That Guardian interview seems to reinforce the idea that she is somebody that has done lots good and useful things, which transpire to be incredibly important during a cost of living crisis. She aims to do good, and has done so - repeatedly.

She is also an exhausting hot mess and I imagine being her friend or being in her company for longer than a few minutes is fucking exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 44January 7, 2023 12:53 PM

It’s an issue that she begs for money, describing how she needs to boil down soap to make shower gel, and then goes on shopping sprees and holidays to Venice.

The spending is I suppose a by effect of her behavioural and addiction issues. And it WOULDN’T be a problem if she didn’t continue to chose a public life as a poverty advocate; and if she didn’t have a unfulfilled Patreon scam.

by Anonymousreply 45January 7, 2023 1:31 PM

Jack Monroe has appointed herself to a position of moral authority yet she grifts and lies.

If you think grifting and lying is ok when it’s your side doing it then don’t complain when the other side do it.

by Anonymousreply 46January 7, 2023 2:32 PM

As night follows day, people are pointing out that that it is improbably she would be prescribed 8 tramadol a day for any condition, let alone survive an overdose of effectively 2g.

[quote]When she went into rehab, she says, she didn’t admit the extent of her problem. “I wasn’t honest about what I was drinking and taking because, again, I thought somebody might take my son into care if I said I drank a bottle and a half of whisky a day and took 40 tramadol.” How many? “Forty, at the end.” In a day? “Yes, how I’m not dead is beyond me.” Was it an attempted overdose? No, she says, not in the conventional sense. “I took eight, then another eight, then another … I remember counting them the day before – 40, that was five days’ worth. I didn’t care if I died. I crashed out, fell over in the bathroom, gave myself a fractured eye socket, a broken nose. I suspected I might not wake up again.”

by Anonymousreply 47January 7, 2023 3:46 PM

She’s a damaged person who has the ability to galvanise support as an activist as an impassioned writer with a strong voice. But as a damaged person a life as a TV presenter and celebrity is obviously not working for her stability and health.

It’s a weird thing in our society how people are elevated celebrity level, like they can solve our problems of poverty and food dignity because they’re really good at one or two things.

by Anonymousreply 48January 10, 2023 6:35 AM

Getting plenty of mileage out of that nose, Pinnochio.

by Anonymousreply 49January 10, 2023 10:35 AM

[quote]She’s a damaged person who has the ability to galvanise support as an activist as an impassioned writer with a strong voice.

She became a Twitter personality by lying about her situation and making awful recipes from cheap processed food. She's not poor or working class, she leads a chaotic and disorganised life because of her destructive personality.

Most recently she's tried to show how you can feed a family on £20 a week, which is something hard right Tories have tried to claim is possible.

She's no Martin Lewis.

Her personal attacks on Jamie Oliver were hilarious when she eventually got a chance to demonstrate her tv presenting skills which can be seen below.

Jack's in trouble again.

She threatened legal action for libel/defamation a year ago against a Tory MP and fundraised via Twitter to her personal PayPal account. Unsurprisingly, the legal case never happened and the statute of limitations passed yesterday with nothing filed. People are reporting her to the police for fraud and taking her to the small claims court. As usual, she's pulling the 'poor me/mental health' card.
