How do these guys do it???
I would be terrified swimming with 30,000 feet of water under me.
Sharks, stingrays, jelly fish...and all the other creatures.
I got the willies just watching this video.

I wonder where this happened? I've swum in deep ocean water before and it's generally black or very dark - that water looks so blue. Wonder if there is a sandy bottom or if the water is not crazy deep? Either way swimming in water that deep IS a creepy feeling. I'm an excellent swimmer but it's still odd to feel so much mysterious space underneath your exposed belly. And I did get stung by a jellyfish once. Yeowch.

It's probably some drill they have to do to abandon ship or something.
Perhaps it's done in very warm waters with less of the dangerous sharks lurking about.

No, R2.
They get to swim for fun and R/R on their days off.
I think the Captain gives them a little bit of time for a swim.
It's the only way they can actually get off the ship, after weeks at sea.

Sexy barefoot men…count me in.

Fish fuck in it.

At Great Lakes they all have to pass a swimming test

r1 submarines are worse... though they're rarely continuous submerged. Still, it drives more people mad.
As to the rest, most don't think about it. anxieties convert into adrenaline. you just learn to jump and you're likely so desperate to get off ship you're willing to do just about anything for entertainment.

The jumping off would make me hesitant but swimming in calm sea where there's plenty of people to help you if you get into trouble is not high risk at all.

Why can't we just come together for a day, all nations of the world and send massive amounts of electricity throughout the oceans, killing all sea life and making the oceans safe for all humans?
MAGA-MOSA... Make America great again and make oceans safe again.

I've read that this is common in warmer waters. They also have lookouts to warn about shark or other activity in the general area.

I could jump with them and swim in the ocean but R7 I could never be in submarine under water.

[quote] They also have lookouts to warn about shark or other activity in the general area.
I don't know about how sharks attack, but couldn't they come up from under someone and bite them?
I've seen photos of great white shark attacks, and they usually come straight up from under the water.

Why do they need a safety mat?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 28, 2022 11:04 AM |
That water is unusually calm for open ocean.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 28, 2022 11:10 AM |
That video at R15 is EXACTLY what I would have been afraid of, swimming in the open ocean.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 28, 2022 11:26 AM |
I wonder if the guys in the boat have spear guns.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 28, 2022 11:53 AM |
OP you can bet they scan the area very well for any dangerous creatures before they let those men jump. The fact that the water is so blue and clear demonstrates that there is a low level of organic (plant life or sea life) in the area.

A Blue Whale could open his mouth and swallow that whole group of sailors, if he wanted to.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 28, 2022 6:59 PM |
r20 A blue whale cannot swallow anything much bigger than a grapefruit. Their diet is mainly krill, which are rather small. If a human actually DID manage to get swallowed by a blue whale though, its very powerful digestive juices would make quick work of it.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 29, 2022 1:11 AM |
So what you're saying, BAG, is that that whole scenario where I get swallowed by a whale but at the last minute pull a feather out of my pocket with which to tickle its uvula, causing it to cough me back into the sea with an excellent story to tell - is not something I need to half worry/half anticipate happening to me?

You're not the only one, Pinocchio/R22.
