Laura Branigan

Does anyone else mistakenly remember Laura Branigan dying before 2004?

Maybe a glitch in the collective vortex....

Gloria was the Smells Like Teen Spirit of 1982

No op. I saw the news on CNN when it broke that she passed away. It was on a weekend in August.

by Anonymousreply 2June 25, 2022 9:17 PM

For some reason I always get her death mixed up with the death of Vicki Sue Robinson, who sort of reminded me of her a little. They were about the same age and Vicki, a huge talent died in 2000. Maybe you are getting them confused too?

by Anonymousreply 3June 25, 2022 9:28 PM

I have never at anytime in my lifetime gotten Vicki Sue Robinson confused with LB.

My friend waited on Laura Branigan. She was alive at the time.

by Anonymousreply 5June 26, 2022 1:47 AM

She'd probably be working as a judge on a singing competition show in 2022

I saw her perform at the MTC in the early 2000s and she was also alive. She ended the show with Gloria.

Then we had steak. It wasn’t great. I mean the steak, not Laura.

I love her voice in Ti Amo

Flashdance, I was seventeen. Gloria got me revved. Dancing and ice skating. I'm there.

by Anonymousreply 12June 28, 2022 4:20 AM

r9 that's what I said when the Michael Bolton version became popular.

by Anonymousreply 13June 28, 2022 4:29 AM

The Bolton one was chalkboard bad. The high notes would make a dog bark.

by Anonymousreply 14June 28, 2022 4:32 AM

She was just meh. Really, just simply bland. I never found anything special about her. Boring music. And I HATED that Gloria song, made me want to take an icepick to my eardrums.

by Anonymousreply 15June 28, 2022 4:34 AM

Solitaire was another good one

oops sorry for the repeat ^^^^ I also loved Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and The Lucky Ones

by Anonymousreply 17June 28, 2022 4:38 AM

She's one of those rare 80s singers who could have just as easily released her albums in the 90s and they would have done just as well

by Anonymousreply 18June 28, 2022 4:46 AM

My sister in law went to high school with her, and she went by Laurie back then. She was very popular. Peter Gallagher was also in their class and he had a crush on her. Her brother just passed away.

Laura and her husband Lawrence Kruteck, who died in 1996

As a child I loved her until my cousin told me she was gross because she sang songs about 'playing with yourself,' she meant Self Control. I was 9, my cousin was 12 it sort of ruined her for me. Now, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 21June 29, 2022 6:34 AM

Was she married to Baretta?

by Anonymousreply 22June 29, 2022 6:39 AM

r19 I would like to hear more. Peter Gallagher had a crush on "Laurie"? He was gorgeous back then.

by Anonymousreply 23June 29, 2022 6:41 AM

Wasn't she an outspoken Republican?

by Anonymousreply 24June 29, 2022 6:42 AM

No she wasn’t r24.

Laura shaved 5 years off her age. She was born in 1952 but claimed 1957 as her birthdate. Can’t blame her though, it’s much easier for a 25 year old to break into pop music than it is a 30 year old.

Know Your Headaches DL!!!

Branigan died in her sleep at her lodge in East Quogue, New York, on August 26, 2004, aged 52.[31] The cause was attributed to a previously undiagnosed ventricular brain aneurysm.[31] It was reported that she had been experiencing persistent headaches for several weeks before her death, but had not sought medical attention for them.

She tried to be the Linda Ronstadt of her day, i.e. remaking other people's hits, but it didn't quite work.

by Anonymousreply 27June 29, 2022 7:55 AM

r27 not really true. she did covers but several songs she did as originals were covered by others.

by Anonymousreply 28June 29, 2022 12:29 PM

She is one of my fave singers. I have been a fan since I was 9 years old and bought the vinyl 7” of Gloria.
