Stevie Nicks - "If I had not had that abortion, I'm pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac,"

AMEN STEVIE.

In response to the Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, the iconic singer opened up to The Guardian about her "generation's fight" for legal and safe abortions - as well as her own pregnancy termination in 1979.

"If I had not had that abortion, I'm pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac," Nicks said. "There's just no way that I could have had a child then, working as hard as we worked constantly. I would have had to walk away."

Now in her 70s, Nicks never had children — but she has no regrets. "I knew that the music we were going to bring to the world was going to heal so many people's hearts and make people so happy. And I thought, 'You know what? That's really important. There's not another band in the world that has two lead women singers, two lead women writers.' That was my world's mission."

Had I aborted Mamie I'd have more nominations.

by Anonymousreply 1June 25, 2022 1:00 AM

That is a ridiculous thing for her to say if she’s pro-choice.

It’s obscenely trivial. “No Fleetwood MAC??”

by Anonymousreply 2June 25, 2022 1:02 AM

R2, huh? How is it trivial? She's saying she had control over her life and got to do what she wanted with it.

Some feel they make a contribution to the world through having kids. She thinks music was her contribution.

by Anonymousreply 3June 25, 2022 1:07 AM

🙄 Thanks SCOTUS, now we have to endure an endless litany of these "If I hadn't scrambled my baby this would not have happened" reflections. Don't like Fleetwood Mac, so I don't give a shit if they exist or not. Come to think of it, the only person I do care to hear from is my mom and, well, I know the outcome of her decision as all of you know the outcome of your mom's choice.

by Anonymousreply 4June 25, 2022 1:08 AM

This is not a good look, sorry. Some things should remain private.

by Anonymousreply 5June 25, 2022 1:09 AM

I don’t think this talking point, which Michelle Williams also used in her Emmys speech a few years back, is as compelling as they think it is. People who are against abortion already see it as a selfish choice, and this just solidifies that in their minds.

by Anonymousreply 6June 25, 2022 1:11 AM

R4/R5, why do you feel the need to control the lives of others? If you don't want to have an abortion then don't have one.

Also, why shouldn't women talk about their abortions if they want? You don't have to listen. People today talk about all sorts of super personal stuff.

Having children can be a selfish choice, too.

by Anonymousreply 7June 25, 2022 1:13 AM

Her argument highlights the sexism in the legal system and I am sure this is one of the reasons why abortion is now outlawed in certain regions. Sad. #prochoice

This woman is obsessing over an incident from almost half a CENTURY ago!

by Anonymousreply 9June 25, 2022 1:17 AM

It's going to be tough for straight guys as well considering that highly accurate DNA paternity tests didn't exist back in the previous era when abortion wasn't a federal right.

by Anonymousreply 10June 25, 2022 1:18 AM

R9, that changed the whole course of her life. Plenty of people do that.

by Anonymousreply 11June 25, 2022 1:19 AM

Pretty sure the coke and klonopin would have taken care of it anyway. I love Stevie, but damn it girl!

by Anonymousreply 12June 25, 2022 1:19 AM

The arrogance of that woman!

This pop band was well established before this American interloper arrived.

by Anonymousreply 13June 25, 2022 1:20 AM

This CUNT is one of the most narcissistic ego maniacs in god's creation.

Shut the fuck up and go away and take your geezer bandmates with you.

Fucking HELL>

by Anonymousreply 14June 25, 2022 1:21 AM

Love her

by Anonymousreply 15June 25, 2022 1:22 AM
This is not a good look, sorry. Some things should remain private.

She can talk about her own abortion if she wants to.

by Anonymousreply 16June 25, 2022 1:23 AM

Why does she sound like a cocaine hoe these days? She had such a good voice back in the day. Sad...

by Anonymousreply 17June 25, 2022 1:23 AM

Some of these responses are surprising but I guess not everyone is a big FM fan. (I am.) Stevie has been talking about her abortions since the 80s and her speaking out on this issue isn't unusual or new.

by Anonymousreply 18June 25, 2022 1:24 AM

It's time for Congress to fight back and end life time appointments of Supreme Court Justices. When that rule was established the life expectancy was 50. And Stevie has the right (for now) to voice her opinion.

by Anonymousreply 19June 25, 2022 1:26 AM

Is this why she aborted?

by Anonymousreply 21June 25, 2022 1:28 AM

Glad she has mentioned this over the years

by Anonymousreply 22June 25, 2022 1:30 AM

The abortionist kicked her in the cuntbone to get rid of the baby — and the rest is history.

by Anonymousreply 23June 25, 2022 1:31 AM

Was it Mary Testa that bragged that she had five abortions?

by Anonymousreply 24June 25, 2022 1:33 AM

R24 We have to now import five foreigners to make up for the shortfall caused by that elimination of five citizens.

by Anonymousreply 25June 25, 2022 1:37 AM

Sometimes you just do what you have to do because the obvious choice is never even an option.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 26June 25, 2022 1:37 AM

Sorry, but some of those 33 celebrity stories at the link are just embarrassing.

Sherri Shepherd: “I’m speaking as someone who’s had a lot of abortions.”

Ashley Judd: “I got pregnant during one of my three rapes.”

by Anonymousreply 27June 25, 2022 1:38 AM

I can’t believe Mary Testa found five men who would want to fuck her.

by Anonymousreply 28June 25, 2022 1:39 AM

Wait, so she literally sacrificed her own child for her ~career~ and now wants applause for it?

by Anonymousreply 29June 25, 2022 1:44 AM

R29, what child? She never had one.

by Anonymousreply 30June 25, 2022 1:45 AM

Of course she can talk about it, but I would argue this is the sort of messaging that has hurt the pro-choice movement. While a majority supports Roe, it’s soft support. More Americans are in the “safe, legal, rare” category, which sees abortion as a last resort. Arguments like Stevie’s (who I love) leave open many arguments for the other side.

by Anonymousreply 31June 25, 2022 1:48 AM

R16 Her utter lack of any moral pain is shameful and repulsive….justifying it with fostering a very mediocre band instead….

by Anonymousreply 32June 25, 2022 1:48 AM

R29 I miss where she wanted applause?

by Anonymousreply 33June 25, 2022 1:50 AM
Her utter lack of any moral pain is shameful and repulsive…

Are you suggesting getting kicked in the cuntbone wasn't painful? She had Christine McVie put on steel-toed boots, for heaven's sake.

by Anonymousreply 34June 25, 2022 1:51 AM

R30 She was pregnant and set to become a mother, Einstein. Getting an abortion is sacrifying motherhood.

by Anonymousreply 35June 25, 2022 1:51 AM

Why should Ashley Judd be embarrased to say she got pregnant and had an abortion after being raped?

by Anonymousreply 36June 25, 2022 1:51 AM

R33 You missed where she 'sat down' with that trash newspaper called The Guardian.

by Anonymousreply 37June 25, 2022 1:52 AM

Some of the comments are so stupid:

Keke Palmer (whoever that is):
"Making individual choices is not a betrayal to your faith," she said. "Mainly, because God knows your heart and your journey. God never judges.

Oh honey, no. Sorry to break it to you, but God certainly 'does' judge.

by Anonymousreply 38June 25, 2022 1:52 AM

Um Stevie, there was a successful Fleetwood Mac before you and your fucktoy showed up.

by Anonymousreply 39June 25, 2022 1:52 AM

R29 "literally"

Oh, dear

by Anonymousreply 40June 25, 2022 1:53 AM

She's acknowledging that she lost something but stating her opinion that what she gained was worth it. It's a human reaction. People who expect wail and gnashing of teeth about unwanted fetuses are telling on themselves.

by Anonymousreply 41June 25, 2022 1:53 AM
Sherri Shepherd: “I’m speaking as someone who’s had a lot of abortions.”

This is why it got canceled. Idiots like this who use abortion as birth control.

by Anonymousreply 42June 25, 2022 1:54 AM

R36 Why hasn't this Judd woman announced the names of the rapists to the world ?

The police would be happy to charge them.

by Anonymousreply 43June 25, 2022 1:54 AM

R29 Well she said ‘…I'm pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac’ as if she did it for the benefit of humankind or something.

by Anonymousreply 44June 25, 2022 1:55 AM

I like how she frames it as a magnanimous choice. She did it for the world. LOL. What horseshit. It was a selfish decision. Just own it and move on. Don't act like you had an abortion to give something better (than human life) to the world.

by Anonymousreply 45June 25, 2022 1:56 AM

R36 Ashley Judd should absolutely be embarrassed for killing off her offspring and another human life.

by Anonymousreply 46June 25, 2022 1:58 AM

R31, who cares? There are people who don't want women to have control over their bodies and to be independent. The messaging wouldn't make any difference to them. Same as for issues like gay marriage.

And, like R32, these type of people don't want to hear anything but pain and regret in relation to abortions. They will never want to hear the women who say it was the best thing they I ever did.

by Anonymousreply 47June 25, 2022 1:58 AM

R40 ur wellcum

by Anonymousreply 48June 25, 2022 1:59 AM

Sharing their experiences from decades ago after a SupremeCourt decision matters…um…not at all.

by Anonymousreply 49June 25, 2022 1:59 AM

R45 You like to infer more than is there

by Anonymousreply 50June 25, 2022 1:59 AM

R49 it gives women who are thinking of doing the same some food for thought.

by Anonymousreply 51June 25, 2022 1:59 AM

Millionaires pretending to be victims.

by Anonymousreply 52June 25, 2022 2:01 AM

R47 Except these women are NOT independent because another human being is inside their body….Why do these women have the right to make decisions over life and death of another human being?

by Anonymousreply 53June 25, 2022 2:03 AM
People who are against abortion already see it as a selfish choice, and this just solidifies that in their minds.

So what? Most choices are made selfishly. F*cking a Congressional intern is a selfish choice.

by Anonymousreply 54June 25, 2022 2:03 AM

R47, so maybe not the hardliners, but messaging is everything In politics. For the pasty two decades or so, the abortion movement changed its tone with “shout your abortion” and similar campaigns. I think it was a miscalculation. Americans do want abortion to remain legal because it’s obvious it is a part of human life. But I do think “shouting your abortion” has turned off many.

by Anonymousreply 55June 25, 2022 2:03 AM

pasty two decades, R55

by Anonymousreply 56June 25, 2022 2:05 AM
“shouting your abortion” has turned off many.

I was turned off the fat-faced Ashley Judd even before she started 'shouting' your abortions.

by Anonymousreply 57June 25, 2022 2:07 AM

I wonder if the regal Vanessa Redgrave has had an abortion or two?

by Anonymousreply 58June 25, 2022 2:08 AM

R54 You know, there’s also a thing called ‘responsibility’…..

by Anonymousreply 59June 25, 2022 2:09 AM

“Safe, Legal, and RARE” is what Democratic politicians should be espousing, and what most of the public supports.

by Anonymousreply 60June 25, 2022 2:09 AM

R60 That sounds like a sensible suggestion.

by Anonymousreply 61June 25, 2022 2:11 AM

R7 for some it's about protecting the lives of others

by Anonymousreply 62June 25, 2022 2:12 AM

R53, you know women are going to continue to still have abortions, right? There will be all sorts of Internet services to continue access. And pills.

by Anonymousreply 63June 25, 2022 2:13 AM

There's so much fucking sanctimony on these Roe threads. If men could get pregnant you all know damn well there'd be abortion pill dispensers everywhere and The Abortion Hut would actually exist.

by Anonymousreply 64June 25, 2022 2:14 AM

Don’t worry, Rose McGowan had her abortion specifically to change the world:
"I realized I could not bring a child into my world and simultaneously change the world.”

Interesting that someone who claims every sexual encounter she’s ever had was rape or sexual assault… she doesn’t mention that her abortion was the result of rape.

by Anonymousreply 65June 25, 2022 2:15 AM

"If I had not had that abortion...there would be no Fleetwood Mac," thereby depriving the world of...Fleetwood Mac. And herself of a career, but she'd rather advertise herself as a savior.

What a trivial, tin-eared, self-congratulatory statement. It's all about Stevie, and what her one abortion brought to the world.

by Anonymousreply 66June 25, 2022 2:15 AM

R7 ‘why do you feel the need to control the lives of others?’ <-

Because Abortion is exactly controlling the life of others in the worst way possible… Who’s going to protect the fetus from their mother’s selfish impulses?

by Anonymousreply 67June 25, 2022 2:16 AM

R66, you sound angry. Why? You "won" today.

by Anonymousreply 68June 25, 2022 2:16 AM

None of these celebrity stories make the least bit of a dent.

by Anonymousreply 69June 25, 2022 2:18 AM

R65 I think in this case, we should be 100% thankful that Rose McGowan did not reproduce, lol.

by Anonymousreply 70June 25, 2022 2:20 AM

Oh god. So embarrassing for Stevie. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that she had deep personal sorrow about that decision. Maybe it was a blind item. Really the only two I felt sad for scrolling through were Laura Prepon and Sharon Osbourne.

by Anonymousreply 71June 25, 2022 2:21 AM

Talk about tin-eared and tone deaf. Looking at you, R68. I'm disgusted and horrified and repulsed by the decision today, and what it portends. But I'm not so dense that I can't see a self-involved egotist when I see one. And I'm pretty sure there would have been a Fleetwood Mac without Stevie and her shawls.

by Anonymousreply 72June 25, 2022 2:21 AM

Rose would have accused the fetus of rape. "It penetrated my vagina, just like Harvey."

by Anonymousreply 73June 25, 2022 2:21 AM

R63 With the same (poor) logic one could claim that guys shouldn’t be banned because some people will still purchase them illegally somewhere…..

by Anonymousreply 74June 25, 2022 2:23 AM

R70 No one uses "lol" anymore

by Anonymousreply 75June 25, 2022 2:23 AM

R63 ^ ‚‘guns‘ not ‚‘guys‘

by Anonymousreply 76June 25, 2022 2:24 AM

R75 lol

by Anonymousreply 77June 25, 2022 2:24 AM

Really, R75? I see it all the time.

by Anonymousreply 78June 25, 2022 2:25 AM

Me too, R78/R75.

by Anonymousreply 79June 25, 2022 2:28 AM

R64 What? Men are at a huge disadvantage in this because they don’t get to decide whether their offspring will be born or killed off....Neither do they have any choices to make when it comes to the question of child support…..

by Anonymousreply 80June 25, 2022 2:29 AM

Yes, R80, this is really a setback for straight men.

by Anonymousreply 81June 25, 2022 2:31 AM

R80, not to mention the parents who are expecting fetuses with severe abnormalities.

by Anonymousreply 82June 25, 2022 2:31 AM

I think Stevie meant to say "there would have been no Fleetwood Mac FOR ME". Think about all the songs from Tusk and later we'd have missed out on: Sara, Leather and Lace, Edge of 17, Seven Wonders. People will be humming those melodies for the next hundred years.

by Anonymousreply 88June 25, 2022 3:15 AM

There would never have been that viral TikTok skateboard video! Or maybe there would have been, with a different song. Whew.

by Anonymousreply 89June 25, 2022 3:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 90June 25, 2022 3:35 AM

"People will be humming those melodies for the next hundred years."

Oh, my sides, R88--"Edge of 17" and "Leather and Lace" being hummed in 2122! 🤣😂

by Anonymousreply 91June 25, 2022 4:50 AM

I love how all these women act like birth control is not legal and widely available and accessible to mostly every American women. Especially in these women’s income brackets. I was a party girl back in the 70s and 80s and I took the pill and never got pregnant!

I’m pro choice but I don’t think having multiple unwanted pregnancies is something to be proud of!

by Anonymousreply 92June 25, 2022 5:04 AM

How did the abortionist get the suction tube up there with all the twirling and flying scarves?

by Anonymousreply 93June 25, 2022 5:06 AM

R92 is clearly a troll--"I was a party girl back in the 70s and 80s." So how old are you now, cunty--80? So old you can't do math. 🤣😂

by Anonymousreply 94June 25, 2022 5:13 AM

R94 it’s sad. Now he’s a woman? It’s kind of sick.

by Anonymousreply 95June 25, 2022 5:16 AM

This is not something the men had to worry about. MIck had two kids and then had affairs while his wife raised the kids. Lindsey and John waited until they were in their 50s and then had kids with younger spouses. And Mick had a new set of kids with his later, much younger wife. Outside of touring, John's work was minimal. He showed up, played some bass lines and left. Then Lindsey rerecorded John's parts.

The men didn't have to give up their most creative years to have kids. Have kids and leave the wife to take care of them, or wait until you're 50 and have saved enough money you barely have to work. (And probably your wife does most of the childcare anyway.) Society and biology don't let women get away with that. If a woman is a true artist who has to keep creating art to stay sane, then having a child will create a huge conflict in her life.

by Anonymousreply 96June 25, 2022 5:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 101June 25, 2022 7:23 AM

She did the right thing. She would have been a terrible parent and she knows it.

by Anonymousreply 102June 25, 2022 2:25 PM

R92 while I appreciate your criticism of Stevie I'm confused as to how you think you are better than her.

Considering your behavior, your use of contraception prevented at least one life from coming into this world.

by Anonymousreply 103June 25, 2022 2:38 PM

Abortion is supposed to be a last resort. It isn’t a contraception. I truly believe they did what they did yesterday because too many women were beginning to use abortion as birth control. There were even young women on TikTok posting “today is my first abortion day!”

by Anonymousreply 104June 25, 2022 2:54 PM

Actually, abortion stats were down, R104. So much for your narrative.

by Anonymousreply 105June 25, 2022 2:56 PM

Does the US have the morning after pill?

by Anonymousreply 106June 25, 2022 3:06 PM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 107June 25, 2022 3:08 PM

I worked with a woman who was open to having “7 or 8” abortions. She couldn’t remember the exact number herself because she lost count. She said it didn’t even have any effect on her anymore and she recently had one and then went shopping after and to lunch with a friend to celebrate.

When you’re getting near double digits in abortions, there is a problem.

by Anonymousreply 108June 25, 2022 3:13 PM

I think that's far from a common attitude among women.

Bunch of trolls.

by Anonymousreply 112June 25, 2022 4:12 PM

So you're a reactionary if you think it's preposterous for her to say if she had not had an abortion, there would be no Fleetwood Mac? The sheer inanity and self-absorption as well as self-congratulation of such a statement is lost on you, R112?

by Anonymousreply 113June 25, 2022 4:19 PM

Yes r75

As to R79 & r78 “LOL” was once something you replied back to someone who texted you something funny—particularly prior to emoji—signaling “I get it.”

Now, “lol” is a tool for the weak. Typically used by the originator of a post or text—not in the response or reply—it serves little purpose aside from allowing the sender to build in an automatic neutering of their comment…lest it be taken the wrong way. “See? I included an ‘lol.’ I was only joking! Don’t come after me!”

It demonstrates a lack of confidence from the sender: the sender is either telling you—point blank—that what they are writing is humorous or satiric (do we need to be told this?) or they’re building in a safety feature for themselves in the event they get any blowback regarding their comment.

by Anonymousreply 114June 25, 2022 4:46 PM

I love the dirty games here. These Stevie Nicks lovers are getting down and dirty! The Stevie lovers on this board never cease to amaze me.

"She's an ally, and they are coming for us next." Nicely played.

#1- Stevie Nicks being an egomaniacal and narcissistic cunt who incidentally has not been able to sing in 35+ years HAS FUCK ALL TO DO WITH ABORTION, ABORTION RIGHTS, OR THE FACT THAT THESE FUCKERS ARE COMING FOR US (and they absolutely are- I'll beat you! I think n that Trump will be reelected- or it will end up being President DeSantis! And I think contraception WILL be banned! We are utterly fucked. Much less the civil war type shit that I sadly expect to go down as well)

However,,,Who cares if she is an ally? Now we have to kiss everyone's ass who deigns (or Dwaynes, as Tony Soprano would say) to "like" us a little- even if they are a delusional, sheltered, egomaniac? Stevie has been a pampered little princess since the day she was born- other than of course that horrible few years when she was a waitress and a maid- a story she has to tell every chance she gets.

So bottom line, we can be utterly fucked and declared illegal and still despise assholes like Stevie Nicks- whether they "tolerate" us or not.

by Anonymousreply 115June 25, 2022 4:51 PM

20 years of pandering to the anti-abortion crowd got us to this day. 20 years of “keep it safe, legal and rare” and “Planned Parenthood does more than abortions” hasn’t appeased anyone. Fuck being nice.

by Anonymousreply 116June 25, 2022 5:04 PM

And, R114, I still see it used all the time. Not by me, but by a shit-ton of people.

by Anonymousreply 117June 25, 2022 5:10 PM

She and the band had already released and toured behind [italic] Rumours [/italic] by 1979. She'd already written and recorded "Rihannon" and "Landslide" and "Dreams." So Fleetwood Mac's legacy would have been fine. She just was addicted to the fame and the drugs and wanted more. Can't blame her for it. It's just the arrogance of her thinking the world needed her music beyond the 1970s is maddening. Lady, you wanted to be a drug pig instead

by Anonymousreply 122June 25, 2022 5:18 PM

Not true, R120. I just did a search of their 8 biggest hits and 3 of them were penned by her.

by Anonymousreply 123June 25, 2022 5:20 PM

R123 name their 8 biggest hits.

by Anonymousreply 124June 25, 2022 5:23 PM

WW @ R121

by Anonymousreply 125June 25, 2022 5:26 PM

Lmao at applauding yourself

by Anonymousreply 126June 25, 2022 5:27 PM
I worked with a woman who was open to having “7 or 8” abortions. She couldn’t remember the exact number herself because she lost count. She said it didn’t even have any effect on her anymore and she recently had one and then went shopping after and to lunch with a friend to celebrate.

That woman sounds mentally ill. She’s probably making up most of those alleged abortions for attention.

by Anonymousreply 127June 25, 2022 5:28 PM

WTF idiot @ R126. I am not R121. Do you even know the lyrics to her songs, fool?

by Anonymousreply 128June 25, 2022 5:28 PM

LOL LOL

by Anonymousreply 129June 25, 2022 5:28 PM

R124, what I read:

1. Dreams

2. Go Your Own Way

3. Landslide

4. Little Lies

5. Don't Stop

6. Go Your Own Way

7. Riannon

8. Tusk

Exactly three of those are hers. Christine McVie has more songwriting credits.

by Anonymousreply 130June 25, 2022 5:35 PM

Sorry, #6 is "Everywhere"

by Anonymousreply 131June 25, 2022 5:36 PM

No one cares who wrote the song. The general public isn’t worried about who writes it. It’s who sings it.

by Anonymousreply 132June 25, 2022 5:37 PM

Well, again, R132, McVie and Lindsey Buckingham sung a lot of them, as did Mick Fleetwood.

by Anonymousreply 133June 25, 2022 5:39 PM

Their biggest song (and their most relevant song in 2022) is Dreams. Stevie is a household name still. No one knows the rest of them individually outside of older people.

by Anonymousreply 134June 25, 2022 5:44 PM

No one knows her except older people, either, R134. She's 74 years old.

by Anonymousreply 135June 25, 2022 5:45 PM

And their biggest American hits are

- Dreams

- Don’t Stop

- Hold Me

- Little Lies

- Big Love

- Sara

- Tusk

- You Make Loving Fun

by Anonymousreply 136June 25, 2022 5:46 PM

R135 that’s a lie.

by Anonymousreply 137June 25, 2022 5:46 PM

Really, R137? You think Gen Z or even the previous generation know who the hell she is?

by Anonymousreply 138June 25, 2022 5:48 PM

Love her

by Anonymousreply 139June 25, 2022 5:49 PM

Yes. Because they do lmao. Harry Styles was constantly doing shows with her, Taylor Swift has performed with her, Miley Cyrus did a mashup with her which was all over social media. You’re out of touch.

When Dreams charted again it was all about Stevie Nicks. She isn’t constantly getting interviewed for nothing.

by Anonymousreply 140June 25, 2022 5:51 PM

She hasn't had an album out since 2014, and I doubt it was snapped up by all the kids.

by Anonymousreply 141June 25, 2022 5:52 PM

You don’t need an album to be known, dear.

Fame has nothing to do with an album.

by Anonymousreply 142June 25, 2022 5:54 PM

R140=Stevie Nicks.

by Anonymousreply 143June 25, 2022 5:54 PM

American Horror Story

by Anonymousreply 144June 25, 2022 5:55 PM

Yes, plus American Horror Story’s highest rated season with their youngest demographic. Forgot about that one.

by Anonymousreply 145June 25, 2022 5:57 PM

She was in one episode, R145.

by Anonymousreply 146June 25, 2022 5:59 PM

Stevie! She's hot, she's happenin', she's almost 75!

by Anonymousreply 147June 25, 2022 6:00 PM

Stevie is appreciated and sometimes adored by a tiny group of young women of all stripes, gays and lesbians of all ages, and boomer women, but a legacy act nonetheless. Let's not pretend that she's actually culturally relevant.

by Anonymousreply 148June 25, 2022 6:02 PM

R146 she was in 2. And brought up throughout the entire season.

by Anonymousreply 149June 25, 2022 6:12 PM

And, R149?

"Let's not pretend that she's actually culturally relevant." Agreed, R148.

by Anonymousreply 150June 25, 2022 6:14 PM
Do you even know the lyrics to her songs, fool?

Oh my God! Now it's OPEN WAR!!!

by Anonymousreply 151June 25, 2022 6:15 PM

Uh, Fleetwood Mac was around way before she joined it.

by Anonymousreply 152June 25, 2022 6:16 PM

Go on twitter and search “Stevie Nicks” then click on latest.

Young people tweet about her ALL THE TIME.

And now that Buzzfeed has ignored the other women speaking up and focused on her…

by Anonymousreply 153June 25, 2022 6:19 PM

R152, she's very respectful of Mac's prior incarnations. She's clearly speaking about the most successful version that she and Lindsey catalyzed. Come on.

by Anonymousreply 154June 25, 2022 6:39 PM

R148 so she did touch the lives of some people. That is enough.

by Anonymousreply 155June 25, 2022 6:42 PM

But it doesn't make her currently relevant, R155.

by Anonymousreply 156June 25, 2022 6:44 PM

Relevant to some, I know, but that's relative.

by Anonymousreply 157June 25, 2022 6:45 PM

Had there not been Roe vs. Wade, there would have been no twirling dances with fringed shawls at their concerts. And that is a horror I cannot even contemplate.

by Anonymousreply 158June 25, 2022 6:45 PM

R156, why does that even matter?

by Anonymousreply 159June 25, 2022 6:47 PM

It doesn't, R159. I love Streisand but I think of her in a similar way--a legacy performer at this point.

by Anonymousreply 160June 25, 2022 6:49 PM

R160, true. But most stars today will never reach her heights due to the nature of today's fractured audiences.. Today's start will be lucky if they get to be a legacy act.

by Anonymousreply 161June 25, 2022 6:57 PM

So, even if she isn't the hottest performer among teens, those teens grew up hearing her songs. Remember when all the millennials stunned us by getting all weepy over Bob Saget's death? Well, when Stevie dies, Gen X, the millennials, and Get Z will all be weepy, because they all know her music. Her songs have been everywhere for the past 50 years: on the radio, on TV, in movies, on grocery stores, playing on devices at people's parents/grandparents' homes.

She was smart to go the love/mystical route with her lyrics. Many of her songs, like Landslide, are even more poignant when sung by an older woman.

"Her songs have been everywhere for the past 50 years: on the radio, on TV, in movies, on grocery stores, playing on devices at people's parents/grandparents' homes."

I think the idea that Nicks has been ubiquitous for 50 years is a real stretch. Someone is really trying hard to sell the legend of Stevie.

by Anonymousreply 163June 25, 2022 9:50 PM

R163. Be real. Her songs are even in grocery store and elevator muzak soundtracks. You can't escape them. Even if you don't like them, you hear them all the time.

by Anonymousreply 164June 25, 2022 9:52 PM

I don't. I go to grocery stores and delis and drug stores. I ride in elevators. I'm on hold on the phone sometimes. Can't tell you the last time I heard a song of hers.

by Anonymousreply 165June 25, 2022 9:56 PM

Don't want to sound like a pro lifer, but she's made an awful comparison here. As if Fleetwood Mac is comparable to being a mother. She would have made a shit mother anyway so maybe the foetus was better off.

by Anonymousreply 166June 25, 2022 10:19 PM

Mommieeeee??????

MOMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 167June 25, 2022 10:20 PM

I wonder why she would say there would have been no Fleetwood Mac, when there was ALREADY a Fleetwood Mac. If she was so respectful about the band before she was in it, it sure doesn't sound like she does with that comment, which basically suggests she WAS Fleetwood Mac, rather than that she was IN Fleetwood Mac.

by Anonymousreply 168June 25, 2022 10:23 PM
She was smart to go the love/mystical route with her lyrics. Many of her songs, like Landslide, are even more poignant when sung by an older woman.

And don’t forget her songs have been covered by TONS of younger artists. Everyone knows her songs, even if the younger audiences aren’t super familiar with her.

by Anonymousreply 169June 25, 2022 10:32 PM

I would still direct your attention, R169, to R168.

by Anonymousreply 170June 25, 2022 10:35 PM

"Everyone knows her songs, even if the younger audiences aren’t super familiar with her."

And now they also know she's had an abortion ; )

JFC R169

by Anonymousreply 171June 25, 2022 10:43 PM
And now they also know she's had an abortion ; )

So? Everyone knows someone who’s had an abortion.

by Anonymousreply 172June 25, 2022 10:44 PM

Yeah, who the fuck cares.

by Anonymousreply 173June 25, 2022 10:46 PM

R172, yes but how many make a public statement to say it was a choice between having a baby or a music group not existing. She's one stupid bitch. Is she back on the sniff?

by Anonymousreply 174June 25, 2022 10:47 PM

There's a lot more art, culture, and entertainment I'm glad exists than the crotchfruit that might have come instead.

by Anonymousreply 175June 25, 2022 10:49 PM

Madonna’s had way more abortions than Stevie Nicks and has produced way more shit music.

by Anonymousreply 176June 25, 2022 10:52 PM
No one cares who wrote the song. The general public isn’t worried about who writes it. It’s who sings it.

If nobody writes the song, nobody can sing the song.
