Does Richard Kind have the ultimate acting career?
He's a character actor who many of you are probably thinking "who is that" and some may not even recognize upon seeing him.
Yet he has worked steadily for the past 30 years on everything from Mad About You to Red Oaks to Curb Your Enthusiasm to voiceover work on American Dad.
He's even been nominated for a Tony.
Yet chances are he can go out in public and remain anonymous--maybe someone will recognize him in a restaurant every so often, but not the sort of constat scrutiny an A-lister has to deal with. Plus he's a character actor, not a sex symbol, so tabloids don't care who he is or is not dating (he's married with three kids FWIW) or what he looks like with his shirt off at the beach or food shopping on a Sunday, so he gets to enjoy a relatively normal life. (This may well be the only DL thread about him.)
And yet he's probably made millions as a result of having recurring roles on so many hit shows and is still working steadily at age 65.
If I were an actor, I'd think that would be the ideal career.

I agree. He's not celebrity handsome, but he has a distinctive voice and that has served him well. It sounds like a good career to have had.

I see Richard Kind walking around on the UWS in NYC all the time.
He always does funny supporting characters though necessarily in small doses.

He’s also a very nice guy and easy to work with so that helps.

I always enjoy when he pops up in something. His characters are usually weird or obnoxious but he seems delighted to play those quirky characters.

I always hear him doing voice overs in commercials.
Marc Maron's WTF interview with him is wonderful.

His character in "Inside Out" made me cry. I know, MAR-YYY! But he was wonderful in that film (as in many of his other roles).

Years ago, Lisa Kudrow spoke at a college graduation and included a bit about Richard Kind teased her about how she was fired from Frasier. She did an imitation of his voice.

Plus, he eats it up when fans do recognize him in the showers at the spa and isn’t shy about popping a boner or baring his sweet one eye rosie in locker room selfies. And the greatest thing is that he’s so obscure TMZ takes a hard pass if you try to sell the pics!

There are a much larger number of actors like Kind than most people realize -- actors that have had very successful careers but never really made it to the top -- or, perhaps, never really wanted to.
Here's another -- Philip Casnoff -- he's been in almost 100 films or tv shows, has been nominated for a number of awards, hasn't stopped working at the age of 73, and yet no one knows who he is outside of casting directors.

As a Curb Your Enthusiasm aficionado, I love the guy to pieces as Larry David's cousin . . .

Yes, he's one of George Clooney's best friends.
Was one of the ones Clooney paid $1 Million to a few years ago, allegedly for his silence about the cliff incident in Lake Como.

I love Richard Kind! The first thing I ever saw him in was an episode of Mr. Belvedere when I was a kid, and then Anything But Love a couple of years later, and I instantly became a fan.
His character "Harvey Corman" in Scrubs was hilarious.
