Stephen King — looking so respectful and polite — no improper vibes — note his hands clasped , noticeably away from any improper reach. Drew truly looks like a little girl in a party dress , standing a polite distance away from King.

The legendary musician was being pursued at The Beatles rented mansion in Los Angeles by blonde actress who was intent on seducing Lennon.
John Lennon urinated in a cocktail before giving it to one of America's best-known sex symbol's and watching her drink it, a new book has claimed.
The legendary musician was being pursued at The Beatles rented mansion in Los Angeles by blonde actress Jayne Mansfield, who was intent on seducing Lennon.
However, the Beatle took a dislike to the actress after she began tugging at his distinctive hair.
In revenge, Lennon urinated into the actress' cocktail before watching in delight as she drank it.
According to the book, called The Beatles: Messages From John, Paul, George And Ringo,Mansfield drank the drink before declaring it was "a real humdinger".
Lennon eventually told the actress later in a nightclub what had been in the drink - which he called a Beatle Special.
He was then forced to make a quick exit from the club after the actress attempting to attack him.

Some great photos at the link. Lucy was everywhere. Can you imagine the gossip on that train?
The Hollywood Bond Cavalcade, which toured the country in September 1943, was part of the Third War Loan Drive to raise money for America to fight in the Second World War. It wasn't the first bond tour but it was a fantastically successful fund raising escapade even by today's standards.
A troupe of about 95 left Los Angeles aboard an east bound 11-car special red, white, and blue train. Director Eddie Buzzell continued rehearsals on the train, which was equipped with a portable dance floor and a piano. The tour was managed by Charles K. Feldman and Kenneth Thomson. The troupe included James Cagney, Fred Astaire, Harpo Marx, Olivia de Havilland, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Lucille Ball, Paul Henreid, Dick Powell, Greer Garson, Betty Hutton, Kathryn Grayson, Kay Kyser and his Music Makers, Ish Kabibble, Harry Babbitt, starlets Julie Conway, Diane Pendleton, Muriel Goodspeed, Georgia Carroll, and the Bond Bombadiers: Rosemary LaPlanche, Doris Merrick, Marjorie Stewart, and Dolores Moran.
The Cavalcade arrived in Washington on the morning of September 8 and were paraded to the Washington Monument. That night the tour was kicked off with a radio broadcast carried by the 567 affiliates of the four networks and 324 independent stations. After talks by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau, the broadcast switched to Hollywood, where Bing Crosby, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, George Burns & Gracie Allen, Jimmy Durante, Charles Boyer, Dinah Shore, Edgar Bergen, Don Ameche, Robert Young, Ronald Colman, George Murphy, Akim Tamiroff, and Don Wilson performed special material written by Irving Berlin, Arch Oboler, and Private First Class Frank Loesser. The broadcast then switched back to Washington where Cagney placed the services of the Cavalcade and the film industry at the disposal of the U.S. Treasury and the troupe went through their paces for an audience estimated at a record 70,000,000.

This photo was taken at the New York Hilton on the night of Dylan's induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1982. According to Randy Poe, former Executive Director of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Bob Dylan had one request that night: He wanted to get his picture taken with Dinah Shore. When asked why, Dylan replied: "So my mother will finally think I'm somebody." He specified that the only pictures he'd approve were with Shore. He grew up listening to her music in MN. Dylan made the request to Poe immediately upon entering the New York Hilton. Poe: "For a second I thought he was surely pulling my leg, but he'd said it with such a straight face that I decided he just might be serious." Dinah Shore was summoned to the kitchen. The kitchen entrance was hidden from the ballroom by a curtained partition. Poe: "Decades later, I can still recall the look of shock on Dinah Shore's face as she came around the corner of the partition and saw Bob Dylan standing there." It was David Amram, one of Dylan's tablemates, who asked him "why on earth he wanted his picture taken with Dinah Shore." Amram did not detect a hint of humour in Dylan's response ("So my mother will finally think I'm somebody"). Amram: "He looked at me. [He was] dead serious."

The other woman in r191 looks a bit like Marge Champion, who was at MGM at that time. But then, where's Gower?
by Anonymous | reply 192 | June 26, 2022 2:09 AM |
r190, I'm sorta shocked they'd allow Angela Lansbury to eat a cheeseburger in her costume, what with those extravagant sleeves and veil and everything....

Carol Landis, beautiful but very skinny from amoebic dysentery. Jack Benny, scruffy, unshaven and with grey hair suddenly looks like a hot daddy.

R219, R220, I didn't know Linda and Ann were besties. Ann was a chatty Cathy. Did she ever talk about that friendship in her memoirs or interviews?
by Anonymous | reply 222 | June 27, 2022 5:32 PM |
r222: She must have, but the only thing I could find online: "Her memory is still cherished by those who knew her-- friends like Ann Miller who recall the friendly, old-fashioned girl with a love of animals and a generous spirit." Supposedly, Ann was the only real friend Linda made in Hollywood.
There are plenty of photos of the two of them palling around and visiting each other on the set.

How bizarre! The Lady in Blue is not identified in any of those photos. She looks too young to be lined up there with the other broads. Could she be one of their daughters?

I believe the woman identified at r252 as Fanny Brice is actually Sylvia Fine Kaye, Danny's lovely wife. Fanny died in 1951 and I think this photo is later.

The much-maligned Hjördis Niven, whom Roger Moore and Robert Wagner both called "a bitch," remained friends with Lauren Bacall long after David Niven's death. However, the friendship seemed to sour at the end, with Bacall remarking, "About a year before she died she wanted me to stay at Cap Ferrat, but she was horrible to me those two days, so rude!"
However, Hjördis' friend Fiona Owen, recalled another side of the story: "I remember Hjördis finding Lauren Bacall a difficult guest at Lo Scoglietto – very demanding on her staff!"
Birds of a feather...

Most of this thread consists of geriatric females but R264 shows genuine big box-office stars together. Each handsome in their own way. Some with gay tendencies.
One madder than the others; Brando was doing "The Ugly American" (which I haven't seen) at Universal in 1962.
Grant was doing the dopey "That Touch of Mink" at Universal in 1962. Hudson was doing "The Spiral Road" (which I haven't seen) at Universal in 1962. Peck was doing "To Kill a Mockingbird" at Universal in 1962.
No producer was able to harness so much box-office star-power for one production. Though the gossips say Hudson and Brando were considered as partners in the tortuous casting decisions for 'Ben-Hur' in '59.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | July 2, 2022 1:35 AM |
R300, I don't think Saxon was gay, but he had notorious agent Henry Wilsson as his agent, so I'm sure he put out to get ahead. I'd love to know which of Wilsson's many clients did the same.
