Looks like this thread died. I just got around to watching it today. Have we discussed it on DL somewhere?

[quote]Just saw the new movie version of Matilda, the Bway musical (on Netflix). It’s excellent! One of the best movie musicals I’ve seen and way better than the stage version.

The quote is from another thread, but I would agree, withe ONE EXCEPTION. I had to turn the English subtitles feature on to finally understand it. Turns out Matilda has great lyrics and a fun book, just a bit heavy in the accents for me.

imho

Pam Ferris made Matilda though. She deserved an Oscar for that role and can act circles around Emma Thompson.

Hopefully the Revolting Children part is good. That little number is a bop.

R5 Mrs. Patsy Ramsey is the soloist.

It was OK, and I know this is a minority opinion, but I actually preferred "The Prom."

I gather that "Matilda" was released theatrically in the UK. It streaming-only in the US.

I watched this yesterday

It’s a little better than it was on stage, but only if you turn on subtitles so you can understand the lyrics.

It’s an interesting story, told rather haphazardly.
