Her voice it actually rather good! (Or was, 40 years ago.) I didn't know this about her.
She is more enjoyed as a singer than an actress, although I did love her in HAIRSPRAY. She is best enjoyed as high camp, I think.

Datalounge introduced me to this campfest years ago and I still love every cheesy bit of it. The movie it comes from, Voyage of the Rock Aliens, just got a U.S. bluray release though it's sadly missing much of the bonus material from previous international releases

She got the crappy songs Janet didn’t bother to suck dick for.

Her 1988 Jam & Lewis album is legit, I have the remastered reissue on CD that came out 5 or 6 yrs ago.

Her cheesy 1980s Eurodisco is actually a lot of fun.
After years of waiting to see "Voyage of the Rock Aliens," I finally did (Amazon Prime) and was so disappointed. Just a complete bore, with these Kraftwerk/Devo alien guys doing bad Three Stooges routines. Pia's not bad but I imagine all the script money went for cocaine. The whole thing feels like someone just jabbered it out in a coke haze.
And there's a reason that Alison LaPlaca never became a musical star.

One of my favorite music videos ever. A trip to Mykonos with Pat Benatar choreography.

She was cursed by sounding too much like Liza while singing old standards.

I saw her at her Carnegie Hall concert, and she was very good; however, I noticed that she did sound like Liza Minnelli (when Liza was sounding good though).

Ridiculous Golden Globe win aside, does anyone else think had she not be styled as an (almost) parody of BAD 80s fashion, she would not be fodder for ridicule? She has a good voice but I can not stand to look at her?
Toni Tennille also falls into the same category (all those damn big teeth and that hair). I remember getting the LP of her singing standards, as long as I didn’t have to look at her, not too bad.
I don’t think either necessarily have great interpretative skills as far as lyrics, but they are decent enough vocalists.

While that video is very Total Eclipse of the Heart it’s a good song and the harmonies are interesting. I think it world have been a bona fide hit if they’d had a stronger singer than Jackson. Zadora had a great voice.

She should have sung it with George Michael.

Toni can definitely interpret the standards, r16.

Loved her in Harold Robins' "The Lonely Lady" 1983. I was 12.

R17 She tried to steal focus, but Alice Playten was just too good, a mini Ethel Merman!

Pia sounds like a robot of Liza. Not like Liza. Pia does the same things over and over and over and over and over with her voice when she sings standards. You hear notes that are on key and pleasant but the entire interpretation is flat or dead somehow. Its a pity. Trained, but no artistry.
