How could they tell?

by Anonymousreply 2June 13, 2022 1:10 PM

So his face is paralyzed in that hilarious position?

by Anonymousreply 3June 13, 2022 1:13 PM

I had a very mild case of shingles in college (probably due to stress) and later met several others who said they had gotten it too. It’s not just an old people thing. I guess I got lucky it was just a couple painful bumps that I first thought were bug bites, and not anything like this facial paralysis though.

by Anonymousreply 4June 13, 2022 1:21 PM

If his face is paralized, does that mean he won't be singing anymore?

by Anonymousreply 5June 13, 2022 2:24 PM

Why are he and his wife constantly getting these freaky health scares? Drugs. Not shingles.

by Anonymousreply 6June 13, 2022 2:46 PM

Getting the shingles vaccine is so worth the time and effort although I'm not buying that as the cause of whatever is happening with him.

by Anonymousreply 7June 13, 2022 2:59 PM

R7, why don’t they give it to people <50? I would get it tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 8June 13, 2022 3:01 PM

[quote][R7], why don’t they give it to people <50? I would get it tomorrow.

The vaccines were only originally only tested in people over 50 and the risk of shingles increases significantly over 50 and continues to increase as you get older.

There is a correlation between age and your immune systems weakening that makes a shingles outbreak more likely as you get older.

by Anonymousreply 9June 13, 2022 3:13 PM

On the Australian news tonight they said the paralysis is only temporary and should resolve completely.

My understanding is that you can get the shingles vaccine at any age provided you're prepared to pay for it, and it's more than a hundred dollars. I think it's a question of cost, not that it will do you any harm to have it younger, but obviously ask your docotr. While your tendency to get the disease may increase with age, any very stressful event can trigger it earlier, so long as you've previously had chicken pox. The stressful event could be a nasty virus (like guess what), lengthy or acute emotional stress, etc.

There’s been cases of Covid sufferers getting shingles.

Justin Bieber has or had Lyme disease, which can lower the immune system. People with lowered immune systems are more likely to get Covid and shingles at once. Also, people with Lyme disease are more likely to have complications from Covid.

Could be he’s having all these issues as an after-effect of Lyme.

If I already have Lyme disease, what added risks does COVID-19 pose for me?

“COVID-19 should pose no additional risks for you if your Lyme disease was detected early, you have been treated with antibiotics, and your symptoms have resolved. You may, however, be at a greater risk of complications from COVID-19 if your immune system is decreased from the more severe forms of Lyme disease, such as post-Lyme disease syndrome or chronic Lyme disease.”

The new product is called Shingrex and you have to get 2 shots within 6 months of each other. I got the first one and then, apparently, there was a big shortage of the vaccine (this was about 4 years ago), and my doctor's office would not return a call for an appointment to get the 2nd shot. I then tried to buy one myself at a pharmacy, which advertised that they had the vaccine in stock: the shot was $300 if you paid for it yourself. And, it turns out, they were lying, they did not actually have any vaccine. So I had to wait more than a year for shot no. 2.

Don't fail to get the vaccine: I knew a woman who became crippled when the virus destroyed the nerves in her legs. She spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair. It can also make you go blind.

by Anonymousreply 13June 13, 2022 4:00 PM

It's pretty simple to get the Shingrex shots from CVS, depending on where you are. It's covered by most insurance and you can schedule online at CVS with very little hassle.

Second shot is a BITCH. I had no symptoms after the first shot nor with any of the covid vaccines or annual flu shots. However, after getting the second Shingrex shot, I experienced such painful body aches and chills that it actually woke me up in the middle of the night. It lasted almost an entire day. It was as bad as a severe case of the flu. Many people I know experienced flu-like symptoms after the second shot.

It's worth it, but be prepared. for 24-48 hours of agony.

by Anonymousreply 14June 13, 2022 4:07 PM

R13, you can also get Shingrex at Costco and Sam’s. When I got it, they were out, but they ordered it for me and I got it the next day. They told me they put it aside for me, but I had to come in early and get it, I think they can only hold it for you so long, or it expires quickly.

by Anonymousreply 15June 13, 2022 4:11 PM

^There was a shortage back in '18 which lasted for over a year. Two different doctor's offices told me they couldn't obtain it for about 12 months, in the US. That's over now. The vax was new then. I got the 2nd shot, insurance covers it if you get it through a doctor or by prescription.

What a coincidence that both he and his wife have had odd neurological issues associated with drug abuse-- but not attributed to drug abuse!

by Anonymousreply 17June 13, 2022 4:20 PM

From NYT: What is Ramsay Hunt syndrome?

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a neurological condition caused by varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. The virus can linger in your body for your entire life, even long after you have recovered from chickenpox, and reawaken to irritate and inflame the nerves in your face.

The illness affects men and women equally and can result in paralysis on one side of the face and painful, blistering rashes. It is more common in older people, and some patients experience changes in their hearing, perhaps perceiving sounds louder in one ear than another or developing tinnitus (a chronic ringing in the ears) or even deafness in one ear. Ear and facial pain is commonly a part of the syndrome, and some patients may suffer from vertigo.

Only about five to 10 out of every 100,000 people will develop Ramsay Hunt syndrome each year. “It can happen to anyone,” said Dr. Waleed Javaid, director of infection prevention and control at Mount Sinai Downtown in New York. “But it’s not something that people should be afraid of.”

The syndrome is officially known as herpes zoster oticus; its more common name comes from the neurologist James Ramsay Hunt, who first described the illness.

It can take a long time for people with the syndrome to receive an accurate diagnosis, according to researchers. The term Ramsay Hunt is notoriously vague and the illness can have symptoms similar to Bell’s palsy, which can also induce facial paralysis. Doctors usually diagnose Ramsay Hunt syndrome by identifying small blisters that have appeared in a patient’s ear, said Dr. Wald.

Is there a link between the Covid vaccine and Ramsay Hunt?

After Mr. Bieber announced his diagnosis, a flurry of posts on social media speculated that receiving the Covid-19 vaccine had triggered his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Experts said these theories are misinformation.

“There is zero correlation that we have seen with any of the types of Covid vaccines with facial paralysis, whether it’s Ramsay Hunt or Bell’s palsy,” said Dr. Danielle Eytan, a clinical assistant professor of otolaryngology at NYU Lagone Health.

Ramsay Hunt was first described over one hundred years ago, Dr. Javaid said, and “Covid just recently came into our lives. It’s clearly not associated with Covid or Covid vaccines at all.”

by Anonymousreply 18June 19, 2022 7:42 PM

Where did he ever get bitten by a tick, to get Lyme disease?

by Anonymousreply 19June 19, 2022 8:10 PM

[quote]What a coincidence that both he and his wife have had odd neurological issues associated with drug abuse-- but not attributed to drug abuse!

Isn't his wife a non-user of drugs? Hasn't she said it, because her father (Stephen Baldwin) was heavily involved with drugs? I don't follow her career, I just remember hearing that.

by Anonymousreply 20June 19, 2022 8:13 PM

stop wasting bandwidth on this shit OP

you could have added this nonsense to the other threads about this SAME EXACT TOPIC

by Anonymousreply 21June 19, 2022 8:19 PM

Whenever a new disease appears, what is the correlation with covid?

Doofus docs so quick to say, oh, I don’t think so....

Truth is we don’t know yet Cigarettes were not harmful..... That breast implant shit was safe.... Opioids were not addicting

Yeah but the average late 20s person would likely encounter some push-back from a pharmacy or doctor. They only think it's necessary to give this stuff to old people, which is probably how he ended up like this.

by Anonymousreply 24June 19, 2022 8:27 PM

[quote]It’s not just an old people thing.

Few things are.

by Anonymousreply 25June 19, 2022 8:29 PM

[quote]His PR machine is trying to dress it up with the fancy name, but he’s got shingles.

Why would it be better PR to call it "the fancy name."? lol

Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a form of the virus that affects the ear-eye area. My mother had this, it's EXTREMELY painful to get this inside your ear or around your eye. She was out of work more than 3 weeks and almost lost her (non-union) job. We had to take her to the ER, originally. It started in the midde of the night, and actually made her cry, atthat time - the pain was so bad. She did not have any facial droop, though.

by Anonymousreply 26June 19, 2022 8:35 PM

At least the shingles didn't mar his big cut cock.

by Anonymousreply 27June 19, 2022 11:17 PM

“…it specifically mars big cut cocks. Do not touch the pregnant or newborns 👶 when taking Shingrex, for it is fatal, explosive diarrhea while singing is common, so stand clear…”

by Anonymousreply 28June 19, 2022 11:31 PM

His gums don’t look healthy.

by Anonymousreply 29June 19, 2022 11:39 PM

SHINGLES doesn't care!

by Anonymousreply 30June 19, 2022 11:51 PM

[quote] It's worth it, but be prepared. for 24-48 hours of agony.

Don't let R14's reaction to the 2nd Shingrex shot discourage you from getting the vaccine. I had no reaction to either dose, nor did anyone I know. I don't doubt those who report a bad reaction, but it's hardly universal. And I do think it would be worth it, based on what people I know say about their experience with shingles.

by Anonymousreply 31June 20, 2022 12:21 AM

I had no pain with first or second Shingrix. But pain would have been worth it. But I have known people who had Shingles and said their sheets hurt them in bed. So painful the pain woke them up, they could not sleep, wear shirts, etc.

by Anonymousreply 32June 20, 2022 1:14 AM

[quote]Justin Bieber has or had Lyme disease, which can lower the immune system.

by Anonymousreply 33June 20, 2022 1:56 AM

Will he die from it?

by Anonymousreply 34June 20, 2022 3:34 AM

R34 one can hope

by Anonymousreply 35June 20, 2022 3:45 AM

I wasn't aware there was a disease that made you look goofy.

by Anonymousreply 36June 20, 2022 4:40 AM

Did she recover?

by Anonymousreply 37September 22, 2022 5:34 PM

Shingles is the chicken pox virus. If you had chicken pox you can get shingles. What it is, is the virus reactivating and the pain is it literally crawling up your nerves, I will affect only one side of the body. It results in spiral-like marks on the body. You can get it in your eye which can me damaging to your vision.

by Anonymousreply 38September 22, 2022 5:41 PM

I thought you only got shingles if you were over 65? An older colleague had it. He said it was excruciating.

by Anonymousreply 39September 22, 2022 5:43 PM

r39 nah you can get it at any age. I got it a 35 while on vacation. I thought it was bed bugs. Never saw marks as I had. Went to Urgent care and the doctor was said it was singles. He asked me how bad the pain was, I told him they didn't hurt at all. He told me I was lucky as most people have excruciating pain. looking back, my leg hurt for a month like a pulled a muscle then the marks showed up on vacation.

by Anonymousreply 40September 22, 2022 6:08 PM

Apparently a person can get shingles from extreme sun damage to the skin. Herpes virus is like electricity, it does what it wants.

by Anonymousreply 41September 22, 2022 6:37 PM

r41 Chickenpox and herpes are not the same things. Chickenpox is a contagious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Herpes, on the other hand, are a type of virus in itself. The two common types of herpes viruses are the herpes-zoster virus which causes shingles and the herpes simplex virus

by Anonymousreply 42September 22, 2022 6:41 PM

[quote] The vaccines were only originally only tested in people over 50 and the risk of shingles increases significantly over 50 and continues to increase as you get older.

I LOVE those commercials for Shingrix

Senior: "I eat healthy, do yoga, run marathons and take a spin class in my extra time!"

Shingrix: "Gurl, shingles don't care!!!!"

R19, My stepfather gets antibiotics at the end of every summer because he does a lot of yard work and pulls ticks off constantly. Also he had confirmed Lyme disease. He feels better after the treatment- didn’t used to even know about it until he got really sick a few years back. But you don’t have to be an outdoorsman to get ticks. My aunt pulled three off after she had to stand in grass at the side of the road when she had car trouble.

Anything that causes great physical stress can cause shingles at a younger age. It’s common in marathon runners.

by Anonymousreply 46September 22, 2023 6:17 PM

Bieber always seems so mopey and depressed. What's he so unhappy about? He's had the world handed to him since he was 15.

by Anonymousreply 47September 22, 2023 7:48 PM

He’s always “sick” How does he catch so many diseases??

by Anonymousreply 48September 22, 2023 9:11 PM

So do people typically not have any side effects after the first shot? My boyfriend is getting the first shot today, and I'm wondering what's in store for us for the weekend.
