Debra Winger as Wonder Girl

A clip of a very awkward Debra Winger transforming and ass kicking as Wonder Girl during an episode of the ABC TV series Wonder Woman (1976). The first season of the series was set during the World War 2 era of 1942. Enjoy!

Debra Winger received endless ridicule from the kids at my grade school for her inability to do the Wonder Woman twirl properly.

by Anonymousreply 1June 8, 2022 4:29 PM

Did she fart in Lynda’s face though

by Anonymousreply 2June 8, 2022 4:32 PM
Debra Winger received endless ridicule from the kids at my grade school for her inability to do the Wonder Woman twirl properly.

Spin properly? She can't RUN properly. What is with her arms while she's running.

Isn't running like walking - something that everyone can do?

by Anonymousreply 3June 8, 2022 4:41 PM

She was not even remotely athletic

by Anonymousreply 4June 8, 2022 7:10 PM

She was quite wably

by Anonymousreply 5June 8, 2022 7:22 PM

Give my daughter her shot. GIVE HER THE SHOT!

by Anonymousreply 6June 8, 2022 7:39 PM

Too bad she didn't become a regular in the series.

by Anonymousreply 7June 8, 2022 7:44 PM

She was a real cunt to Lynda Carter. But isn’t she a cunt to everyone she works with?

by Anonymousreply 8June 8, 2022 7:48 PM

Did Lyle Waggoner have her?

by Anonymousreply 9June 8, 2022 7:59 PM

No but Peter Knight did.

by Anonymousreply 10June 8, 2022 9:17 PM

Winger has complained about her time on this show.

by Anonymousreply 11June 8, 2022 9:24 PM

It was the first role to give her large exposure to the masses and she bitches about it. Go figure.

by Anonymousreply 12June 8, 2022 9:25 PM

Didn’t she get caught stuffing the Wonderbra?

by Anonymousreply 13June 8, 2022 9:34 PM

How, when her halter practically showed her tits already??

by Anonymousreply 14June 8, 2022 9:39 PM
Winger has complained about her time on this show.

Hasn't she complained about every thing she's done?

As for her lack of athleticism...well, as far as I know the only athletic ability she ever showed was in "Urban Cowboy", where she athletically humped a mechanical bull.

by Anonymousreply 15June 8, 2022 9:49 PM

True r15

by Anonymousreply 16June 8, 2022 10:04 PM

Drusilla is an ugly name

by Anonymousreply 17June 8, 2022 10:12 PM

She discussed the show on Letterman 30 years ago. At least she had a sense of humour about it. It begins at 5:30.

by Anonymousreply 19June 8, 2022 11:15 PM

Lynda is beautiful.

Debra isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 20June 8, 2022 11:22 PM

Lynda Carter was stunning.

I agree, R22. That clip at OP! How'd they get her tits to stay firmly planted int that "Busty YAY!"

Lynda Carter was an example of a part being perfectly cast.

I can’t imagine any other actress that could have pulled off like Lynda Carter

by Anonymousreply 24June 9, 2022 1:49 AM

It looks like she would barely be hired to organize Wonder Woman’s closet.

by Anonymousreply 25June 9, 2022 4:12 AM
Winger has complained about her time on this show.

Winger has complained about every single minute spent on God's green Earth.

by Anonymousreply 26June 9, 2022 4:17 AM

I can't stand Debra Winger. She's talented but she is such an endless complainer she's like Livia Soprano.

I would guess she has some sort of personality disorder because she cannot control it.

by Anonymousreply 27June 9, 2022 4:19 AM

R14 stuffing from underneath, to give that full lift

by Anonymousreply 28June 9, 2022 4:19 AM

That clip at r18 is ridiculous. Winger [italic]actually complains[/italic] that they made it so that Wonder Woman ran faster than she did.

Did she not understand that Wonder Woman was the actual star of the show, and so of course would have to run faster than Wonder Girl who was just a sidekick?

by Anonymousreply 29June 9, 2022 4:44 AM

another clip...

The Nazis invaded Paradise Island to mine Feminum, the metal used to make bullet-deflecting bracelets. Queen Hippolyta, Wonder Woman & Wonder Girl's mother, has instructed her daughters and subjects to give in to the Nazi's demands and assist in Feminum mining. Carolyn Jones (Morticia Adams) plays Queen Hippolyta.

As a 4 yr old gayling the invisible jet was right up my alley!

by Anonymousreply 34June 9, 2022 10:00 PM

The invisible airplane was so stupid since you could see Wonder Woman in it, squatting in her seat like she was on the toilet.

However, it goes all the way back to the 1940s when the character was first invented.

by Anonymousreply 35June 9, 2022 10:06 PM

Lyle Wagonner still looked great as an older guy.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 36June 9, 2022 11:35 PM

Here's the incredibly hokey invisible jet. Lynda Carter said it looked so bad they only used it a few times.

Then we see Wonder Woman stop a plane from taking off. Love how she brushes her hair out of her face without missing a beat.

by Anonymousreply 37June 9, 2022 11:45 PM

Apparently, Lynda and Debra knew each other prior to Wonder Woman. Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira) wrote in her book that she attended Lieux Dressler's acting classes (held on Lieux patio!) with Lynda and Debra. Cassandra seemed to think Lynda somehow helped Debra get the part. Typical of Debra to trash talk someone after they helped her out, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 38June 9, 2022 11:52 PM

R37 I rewatched them Feminum Mystique episodes for the first time in many years on HBO Max the other day. The part where she brushes the hair out of her face while she’s trying to stop a jet plane stood out to me as I laughed.

I loved it when Lynda wore the skirt and the cape as part of the WW costume.

That episode of "the feminun mystique" was totally suggestive, because YOU KNOW DAMN WELL those Nazis were going to impregnate all of the women and the honor of knocking up THEE wonder woman (her first time) was going to be the honor of the head Nazi played by virile handsome (no doubt horny) John Saxon!

Would have loved to have heard some erotic pervy dialogue discussing this, but I guess for a "family show" this would have been too much...If only they had shown Saxon's nazi character taking off his shirt and strutting around wonder woman....

I will also say that the various characters who chloroformed wonder girl (winger) seem to enjoy it very much in those scenes, practically groping winger's bust as they did so....wonder how many of the male actors who did this got boners?! laugh!...

by Anonymousreply 43June 10, 2022 12:38 AM
Would have loved to have heard some erotic pervy dialogue discussing this, but I guess for a "family show" this would have been too much.

Correct. They couldn't go there on Network TV in the 70s because of all the censorship.

by Anonymousreply 44June 10, 2022 12:46 AM

r43 the nazi commander talked about rounding up the women and taking them back to berlin for breeding in episode 2 of the feminum mystique.

by Anonymousreply 45June 10, 2022 2:06 PM

She twirls like a drunk. 🍸

by Anonymousreply 46June 10, 2022 3:22 PM
She was quite wably

Huh? Did you mean wobbly?
How'd they get her tits to stay firmly planted int that "Busty YAY!"

There is a 2-sided tape made specifically for costuming. It's how JLo keeps her hoochie dresses from sliding off.

by Anonymousreply 47June 11, 2022 3:55 AM

Debra’s outfit looks like a quickly designed cheap ass knock off

by Anonymousreply 48June 11, 2022 8:11 PM

True r48 it looks like they threw it together in the costume department the night before because they were running out of time.

The comic book Wonder Girl costume at that time wasn't much better.
I've always preferred the Season 1 (WWII) costume.

I prefer everything about Season 1 (WW2 era) to Seasons 2/3 (70s). The costume, the occasional visits to Paradise Island, Etta Candy, and a version of Steve Trevor that played a major role on the show. And while Debra Winger was a bit clunky as Wonder Girl, the episodes in which she guest starred were a lot of fun.

by Anonymousreply 50June 12, 2022 12:28 AM

It's too bad the show couldn't have had a couple more seasons. It was doing decently enough in the ratings but the network decided to cancel it anyway.

by Anonymousreply 51June 12, 2022 12:38 AM

The point of Winger’s Wonder Girl was to be an awkward teenage girl.

You can even see that in her transformation (spins) into WG.

by Anonymousreply 52June 12, 2022 12:38 AM

Agreed r50

by Anonymousreply 53June 12, 2022 12:44 AM

R50... agree with season 1 being the best, although in season 2 it did look like wonder woman was more stronger and more powerful with various powers...season 2 in the present day should have had more episodes with male eye candy in bikini's and what not..... perhaps wonder woman goes undercover as diana price at the chippendales to solve a crime! or a bodybuilding show!...laugh!...

But Debra had the most ridiculous hairdo on the show. Like a frau dressing up as Wonder Woman for Halloween!

by Anonymousreply 59July 16, 2022 6:27 PM

Wonder Girl has never had a decent costume, in any incarnation.

by Anonymousreply 60July 16, 2022 6:49 PM

Her spin and definitely her running was so awkward and uncoordinated looking. When they show her running it action sequences it’s like she’s trying to run like she’s at the special Olympics

by Anonymousreply 61July 16, 2022 11:37 PM

She was supposed to look clumsy and unsophisticated along side the beautiful and graceful WW.

by Anonymousreply 62July 17, 2022 12:19 AM

Loved that Lynda did a cameo at the end of the Gal Gadot Wonder Woman.

Since they're doing a DC multiverse with Keaton's Batman as the centerpiece, if they don't bring back Lynda, it would be a crime against humanity.

by Anonymousreply 63July 17, 2022 12:50 AM

When she was doing publicity for TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, she talked about her stint on WW. She said that Lynda was basically a mannequin who couldn’t act. Poor Linda.

by Anonymousreply 64July 17, 2022 1:19 AM

Lynda has been confirmed for WW 3.

by Anonymousreply 65July 17, 2022 1:30 AM

R64...yet, Lynda played wonder woman far better that Debra played wonder girl...."Angst" acting isn't always great or better acting....

by Anonymousreply 66July 17, 2022 2:34 PM

Debra’s cynicism about the role shows in her performance, r66.

by Anonymousreply 67July 17, 2022 3:01 PM

She didn’t display any angst during her WW episodes. The best of the 3 she appeared on is on now on Heroes & Icons channel.

by Anonymousreply 68July 17, 2022 3:18 PM

I liked Dalma and Magda on the feminum episodes.

by Anonymousreply 69July 17, 2022 3:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 70July 17, 2022 5:04 PM

Lazy, pillow princess Yenta. Rumor is the only time she was “athletic” was on the casting couch. And even the. She was usually bent over it.

by Anonymousreply 74July 17, 2022 6:04 PM

Lol

Dalma and Magda were very nice, friendly Amazons. They tried to be friends with the Nazis but they only wanted to enslave them do D&M had to toss those boys into the paradise island pond.

^ Not so true in 1976.
As the show became more popular tensions between series stars Lynda Carter and Lyle Waggoner grew. It got so bad that the two stars appeared in fewer and fewer scenes together. Carter said the animosity was exaggerated but Waggoner said it was due to Carter's ambition. "Just say," he told TV Guide with a slight smile, "the spotlight is not willing to be shared."
So that Waggoner's character would have more activity on the show, producers brought in S. Pearl Sharp to play fellow IADC agent Eve. There were plans to completely write Waggoner out of the show with Diana's move to Los Angeles. But the show was canceled before that happened.
