You know how like with trans people, the trans people you know are normal but the leaders and Twitter and the activists are all bat shit?
It’s like that with Gen Z. My sister is graduating high school, she says there are pronoun people but it’s not the majority and a lot of school policies enforce the “Gen Z PC” ideology.
The Gen Z people I know say the same stuff we say on here. Whenever I talk about it with younger people, they just tell me these are mostly weird theater kids.

She’s gifted, so not classically dumb, but she has never had to deal with or figure out anything on her own. She has meltdowns about stupid shit; big test coming and she doesn’t have all the material covered, she calls her mom, at work, and proceeds to have a meltdown. I had to take over the meeting so she could deal with it; while texting her husband to leave work and go talk to her. WTF is she going to do at university!? And She wants to do a year in Europe!!!

She legit had no clue how to read a letter written in cursive!! Nor did she understand how to use an ATM. Fucking weird. She also identifies as lesbian, yet has never been on a date in her entire life. She is spoiled rotten and still lives with her parents and even goes on trips with them all expenses paid!! It is so fucking odd. She seems like a big child. Asexual even.

I been substitute teaching at a high school recently and trust me. The pronoun thing doesn't really exist. Nobody is triggered by "ladies and gentlemen." The girls are still girly with long hair, crop tops and makeup. The boys still boys, cocky, obnoxious and casual use of slurs to be edgy. The only difference is they are actually far more polite than Millennials were as teens. I'm millennial and I was surprised by how so many tell you "thank you", "have a nice day", "I appreciate you", etc. I feel Millennials were far more rude to teachers from my memories in high school.
But I live in the Northeast, so bullshit is not tolerated as much. Its the upperclass college kids from the rural areas that seem way more oversensitive and obsessed with being "edgy". When I was college, I noticed the kids from urban areas and conventionally attractive ones weren't "non-binary", it was always very plain-looking white ones from bumfuck areas. Many of these kids went to my NJ college and were wannabe NYers. I've never met a trans or genderfluid hipster that wasn't from money.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 27, 2022 9:25 PM |
R42 I agree. A lot of the stereotypes are actually young Millennials. I can attest as I am in the group of Millennials born in the early 90s that got sucked in that obnoxious social justice social media circle of the late 2000s and 2010s. Gen Z seem far more practical and less navel-gazing. Most of those annoying Elite Daily and Buzzfeed articles are written by upper-class white Millennial women. Gen Z overall is still too young to pinpoint an exact attitude yet.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 27, 2022 9:28 PM |

R46 That's the difference between the East Coast and West I've noticed. I too noticed people from California are very "soft" so to speak. I'm from New Jersey where it's considered rude to be too wishy-washy or slow to act. Nobody really cares too much about political correctness. In fact many Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, Polish-Americans and Jews will not hear it because they will bring up their ancestors and their struggle. Plus we have a high population of Caribbean Hispanics, Mexicans, Asians and Indians too and they all say the N-word like it's nothing. There's a strong community probably because of the population density and we're forced to coexist and tolerate each other. Ethnic jokes are casual and not taken seriously, sorta self-deprecating. White people from California, Oregon and Washington state due seem to always be walking on eggshells in comparison.

People don't just sprout out of the womb. You're also taking online behavior of semi anonymous individuals on Reddit, ascribing and age/generation to them and then making grand idiotic ASSumptions.
You don't know the age of people on Reddit unless they tell you or you work for the MoSsad/NSA that runs the place, or you stalk their posts and wait for them to mention it. You also don't know why they are using such word stylings. The entire subreddit can be accused of harboring hate speech and shut down. Self censorship is common.
If "gen Z" behaves any particular way (highly dubious. Generations contain rich and poor and make and female and all kinds of other categories that shape behavior, including family origin, birth order and a million other factors) then they are probably doing so because of how and what they have been taught by the society, parents, teachers, peers, etc.
Your whole argument is bunk but you are making hay here with these dittoheads that work themselves up daily into a later on these psyop threads touting some kind of bigoted essentialism or other about some kind of identity group.

The younger millenials I grew up with weren't as tech consumed and always talked and joked out in the open in class. I've taught some high school/college classes now and the vibe is more to yourelf than it used to be. More internet obsession, less friendliness. It is 25 and that is old enough to have a job and not feel the need to censor words like “rape”. It seems to be a theme on social media. Gen Z omits words like “orgy”. It is strange. Professor Allan Bloom talked about ‘The Closing of the American Mind’ in the 80s. If he were still alive today, he’d have to revise the title to ‘The Softening of the American Mind’
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 28, 2022 10:17 AM |
Tbf to Zoomers there are plenty of Millennials who fit the same description (myself among them). I think anyone who was a kid or grew up after the 90s has a different and as-yet misunderstood experience of life.
We could ascribe this to any number of causal factors—tv/media exposure to desensitising scenes of terr0r and endless war, hypersurveillance and the awareness of it, capitalism’s drive for a monoculture, atomisation, automation...the list goes on. What matters more is how we address it.
Personally, things like agoraphobia, crippling social aversion, burnout, lack of identity and abiding depression have all been mainstays of my life since the age of 14. My brain is so accustomed to this that I don’t know of any other way to be. The complex, whatever it is, seems highly treatment resistant, too—neither drugs nor therapy nor just ignoring it and ‘powering through’ seem to work. I feel as if I had my youth stolen by a phantom.
But sure, malign and crumble and call anyone under the age of 45 a snowflake, without giving it another thought or making any kind of attempt to understand. That’ll work.

Self-victimization happens in every generation.
What makes it different now is how self-victimization is ruthlessly weaponized by Gen Z [and Millennias] to take down the perceived enemy: you make me feel unsafe, and that alone is sufficient reason to demolish you/your career/book deals/platforms/ reputation etc etc.
It’s really Nietzsche’s Ressentiment viciously coming to life. And this is what distinguishes Gen Z and Millennials from previous generations

Gen Z is between 9 and 24 years old. Obviously, they are immature. Gen Z has now been through the pandemic, a catastrophe that no previous generation has experienced as young adults. Education costs have never been higher and long-term job prospects have never been worse. Their concerns are valid, in my opinion. And compared to millennials, they seem less entitled. If all you know of Gen Z are loudmouths on Twitter, then your view is skewed. And even those loudmouths are concerned about the state of the world.
