Will Leonardo DiCaprio ever win another Oscar?

His acting roles have been on the wane, somewhat.

Are there any roles he could take on, that could win him the big prize again??

Leo really is the DeNiro of his generation.

[quote] Leo really is the DeNiro of his generation.

Fat Leo really is the Orson Welles of his generation.

by Anonymousreply 1May 25, 2022 12:30 AM

Don't do Orson Welles dirty like that, R1. What has Leo written, produced, or directed of note?

by Anonymousreply 2May 25, 2022 12:32 AM

No, and he didn't deserve his first one either. He peaked as a teen/adolescent and hasn't given a great performance since 1996.

by Anonymousreply 3May 25, 2022 12:33 AM

I didn't even realize he has already won an Oscar!!!

What was it for?

by Anonymousreply 4May 25, 2022 12:34 AM

R2 Welles made 3 interesting movies and 3 decades of disappointment and failure.

by Anonymousreply 5May 25, 2022 12:34 AM

Same here.

by Anonymousreply 6May 25, 2022 12:35 AM

I don't think so. He really doesn't take risks either. He's simply serviceable. He always plays himself, a smartass, in nearly everything. He can't pull off an accent at all especially Northeastern ones. He cannot pass for a NYer or Bostonian. He sounds like Bugs Bunny. Scorsese and Nolan love giving him roles in everything for their Oscar bait movies.

That being said, he has charisma and star presence for days. You really can't your eyes off him even when he looks gross and fat. It's the sharp eyes, cheekbones and big forehead, sorta alien factor that makes models striking.

Martin Scorsese is currently developing a biopic due out sometime next year about Teddy Roosevelt, and DiCaprio is attached to play the historic figure. When I first saw the item I immediately thought it was about FDR and couldn't believe anyone in their right mind would want DiCaprio for that role, but when I saw it was Theodore, I thought it's actually not a bad casting choice at all.

by Anonymousreply 9June 7, 2022 3:50 AM

I only find him attractive in the 2000s starting with The Beach. He started looking really ugly to me around The Great Gatsby and barf when he makes appearances nowadays. He looked crazy beautiful in Blood Diamond, The Departed and Shutter Island when he was rugged and tanned but still healthy weight.

by Anonymousreply 10June 7, 2022 4:04 AM

OP I pity the generation that has DiCaprio as their DeNiro

by Anonymousreply 11June 7, 2022 4:28 AM

I love Leo.

by Anonymousreply 12June 7, 2022 5:12 AM

His Oscar was for a completely boring and forgettable movie

by Anonymousreply 13June 7, 2022 6:40 AM

I like Leo but he is no DeNiro. He acts within his lane which is relatively narrow. Acting steadily declined with Julia Roberts and similarly simple one-note stars.

by Anonymousreply 14June 7, 2022 6:45 AM

Is he really the DeNiro, or is he the Jack Nicholson? I think he’s the modern day Jack. And I think times have changed and being a decent actor but notorious womanizer is going to turn off the academy. No more Oscars for Leo.

by Anonymousreply 15June 7, 2022 6:59 AM

he's not persuasive and miscast in J Edgar, The Departed, The Aviator and I suspect he will not fare any better as Jim Jones or Theodore Roosevelt

by Anonymousreply 16June 7, 2022 7:00 AM

Someone - please! - tell us the name of the movie for which Leo won an Oscar! We are too fat and tired to google IMDB.

by Anonymousreply 17June 7, 2022 7:01 AM

It was for The Revenant, apparently, R17…🤷🏻

R18 / R19 Thank you! I thought it might have been for The Departed or The Aviator.

by Anonymousreply 20June 7, 2022 7:15 AM

Oh my GOD. Just READING the plot for The Revenant was exhausting!

De rien, R20! I thought maybe it was for The Departed as well (which I also haven’t seen)!

by Anonymousreply 21June 7, 2022 7:18 AM

R15 notorious womanizer? 😂😁😍😉🤣😊😂😍😁

by Anonymousreply 22June 7, 2022 7:48 AM

No.

The answer is No.

by Anonymousreply 23June 7, 2022 8:18 AM

Maybe, just not three the magic number of posts for real superstar actors.

by Anonymousreply 24June 7, 2022 8:45 AM

I’m in the minority that doesn’t hate The Revenant. I loved the scenery of the movie and liked Leo in it, it was interesting to see him play a character that barely talks. His Oscar should’ve been for The Wolf of Wall Street tho.

by Anonymousreply 25June 7, 2022 10:30 AM

R10 But he looked so good in The Great Gatsby? It’s when he started prepping for The Revenant that he fell off looks wise.

R15 Despite the comparisons between them Leo has never cited Jack as one of his acting idols. His biggest inspirations are Robert De Niro and James Dean.

by Anonymousreply 27June 7, 2022 10:35 AM

I never found him attractive. He’s always seemed so frat boyish. He’s mid

by Anonymousreply 28June 7, 2022 10:37 AM

R14 Narrow how? To go from Titanic to the performance he gave in Django Unchained is incredible.

by Anonymousreply 29June 7, 2022 10:38 AM

I thought he was beautiful and charming in Catch Me If You Can. I can’t imagine a young leading man pulling off that role today. It’s bullshit Jennifer Lawrence won for Silver Linings Playbook and Emma Stone won for La La Land but Leo wasn’t even nominated for this film.

Would you have preferred I said manizer? Lucasizer? He’s a serial Victoria’s Secret model dater. Maybe he’s bi (I doubt it) but he’s a womanizer.

by Anonymousreply 33June 7, 2022 3:51 PM

R32 What a couple of fags!

by Anonymousreply 34June 7, 2022 4:00 PM

Sure for playing a heterosexual for the last 50 years.

by Anonymousreply 35June 7, 2022 4:08 PM

His next 3 movies are major Oscar-bait material. It's very likely that he will win at least another Oscar in the next few years.

by Anonymousreply 36June 7, 2022 4:09 PM

I’m not a fan. I don’t like his voice. I haven’t liked him in anything I have seen him in for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 37June 7, 2022 4:56 PM

[quote]His next 3 movies are major Oscar-bait material.

DiCaprio is one of those actors for whom EVERY role is an attempt at Oscar bait material. I think he is pretty talented but can he ever make a film that doesn't try to be a fucking event?

by Anonymousreply 38June 7, 2022 5:01 PM

R38, I know it's commendable that DiCaprio takes his work seriously and only works with the most respected people in Hollywood, but at the same time it's started to feel a little suffocating.

I wouldn't want him to do a junky Ryan Reynolds style action movie or a buddy comedy with Will Ferrell, but I think there's space for him to do something that doesn't strive to be consequential. When Nicholson and De Niro were around the same age as DiCaprio, they still found time for movies like The Witches of Eastwick and Midnight Run, and I suspect having roles like that helps actors clear their head between their more serious work. DiCaprio could definitely use that right now. (And no, an Adam McKay jeremiad against global warming doesn't count, even if it has jokes)

by Anonymousreply 39June 7, 2022 5:56 PM

Leo is charming and needs the do comedic roles more often. I really can't take him seriously in a lot of roles he tries to be this dangerous badass. He's too boyish even with age, weight and facial hair.

by Anonymousreply 40June 7, 2022 6:17 PM

He already has one Oscar too many.

He acts with the transparent effort of a dinner theatre waiter auditioning for the ("could be breakthrough") role of a man who has to take the most excruciating shit in the world.

by Anonymousreply 41June 7, 2022 6:50 PM

Even Meryl Streep said Leo puts a lot of concentration and worrying into his work, whereas Jennifer Lawrence just starts acting on cue and does the job effortlessly. I think Leo needs to loosen up more, experiment a little, make mistakes, and not have every film be so serious.

by Anonymousreply 42June 7, 2022 8:21 PM

IMO, the best actor today, at the peak of his form.

by Anonymousreply 43June 7, 2022 10:19 PM

He’s talented but I’ve never seen him in a role that didn’t get nominated for some big award

by Anonymousreply 44June 7, 2022 11:13 PM

[quote] Don't do Orson Welles dirty like that

R2. Welles had such a fat-face he could only play kings, monsters and freaks.

Fat-face Leo will soon be in the same rut. No romantic movies or comedies in his future.

by Anonymousreply 45June 7, 2022 11:38 PM

I don’t understand the intense hatred for Leo on here, especially considering how gay friendly he is.

by Anonymousreply 46June 8, 2022 6:10 AM

[quote] gay friendly he is.

Is he, R46? How do you know that?

by Anonymousreply 47June 8, 2022 6:17 AM

Do you mean gay closeted?

by Anonymousreply 48June 8, 2022 6:26 AM

R47 He played a gay role early in his career, has lots of gay friends, and is a vocal supporter of gay rights.

by Anonymousreply 49June 8, 2022 6:35 AM

R49 I placed the words "Leonardo DiCaprio gay friends" into Google and brought up nothing of substance. It told me he played a passive homosexual almost 30 years ago.

I bet Leo is trying very hard to appease those vixens who believe in things like the Bechdel Test.

by Anonymousreply 53June 8, 2022 7:27 AM

He’s in Hollywood he has gay friends. But idk what that proves. He was at Derek blasbergs birthday

by Anonymousreply 54June 8, 2022 7:48 AM

He was excellent in Catch Me If You Can, one of my favorite Spielberg films.

That using a hooker to cash a forged check 🙂 she was played by a young Jennifer garner.

by Anonymousreply 55August 20, 2022 8:42 AM

I am split on Leo and Joaquin for best actor of their generation. Leo has slightly more range and can play “normal and mainstream” better than Joaquin. Joaquin shows more emotional depth and believability in his roles. Still, Leo is good entertainment and watchable even if he didn’t quite capture Howard Hughes or Jay Gatsby. It mystifies me that Leo is playing Jim Jones over Joaquin who seems like a shoo-in for the role (and has a greater resemblance to Jones). Then again, maybe the subject matter hit too close to home for Joaquin.

My favorite Leo roles are “Catch Me If You Can” and “Gilbert Grape.” He was entertaining and cute in “The Wolf of Wall Street” which made good use of his boyishness and then high spirits.
