Stranger Things Season Four

Critics declare the final season bloated and overindulgent.

by Anonymousreply 600June 14, 2022 12:45 PM

What a surprise.

by Anonymousreply 1May 23, 2022 4:20 PM

It's been bloated and overindulgent the entire time.

by Anonymousreply 2May 23, 2022 4:22 PM

As the show went forward it leaned more into the mythology and monster aspects rather than a charming show with likable characters which is what got people interested in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 3May 23, 2022 4:24 PM

It was bloated and overindulgent since season 2, when I checked out.

by Anonymousreply 4May 23, 2022 4:25 PM

Funny looking kids can be adorable. Once puberty strikes, I must avert my eyes.

by Anonymousreply 5May 23, 2022 4:26 PM

It went off the rails in season two and never recovered.

by Anonymousreply 6May 23, 2022 4:31 PM

It isn't the final season. They're ending it with the 5fh one.

by Anonymousreply 7May 23, 2022 4:32 PM

That wig on the lead girl alone is enough to quash my interest. Why are wigs so hard to get right?

by Anonymousreply 8May 23, 2022 4:32 PM

The older they get, the cuter they ain’t!

by Anonymousreply 9May 23, 2022 4:36 PM

They'd have been better off sticking to the evil scientist stuff rather than the monsters and the "Upside Down", If she's 10, then where's 1 to 9? they should have focused on that aspect.

by Anonymousreply 10May 23, 2022 4:38 PM

They ruined it once they started in with the monsters etc.

by Anonymousreply 11May 23, 2022 5:14 PM

Apparently Will is officially confirmed to be gay this season.

by Anonymousreply 12May 26, 2022 1:16 PM

Should have sent them all to a fictitious Ivy League college to be age appropriate, and created a thriller involving gender dysphoria, ghosts of slaves, a secret time-machine laboratory, and a jet-setting evil cabal composed of the glamorous spawn of oligarchs and South American drug lords.

by Anonymousreply 13May 26, 2022 1:25 PM

R12 The least they could do. They probably won't let him have a boyfriend though, just have an unrequited crush on Mike.

by Anonymousreply 14May 26, 2022 2:17 PM

r12 Well he's got the gay walk down at any rate

I will remind everyone that this is one publication. I’ve never watched Stranger things, but a reviewer I follow could not say enough good things about it (and yes, she is a “real” journalist and is on RT). I plan on watching on her review,.

It has an 88% on RT

by Anonymousreply 16May 27, 2022 3:20 AM

MBB looks like a 50 year old frau. Why can't Will get a better haircut?

by Anonymousreply 17May 27, 2022 3:41 AM

They're definitely leaning into Will crushing on Mike. They all but confirm it at 4.09 in this.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 18May 27, 2022 3:44 AM

Well Will's certainly gay this season but he's not yet had a coming out scene like the gave to the lesbian, and in fact barely counts as main character. Though neither do Mike or Eleven until near the end so I can't tell if that intentional or not.

by Anonymousreply 19May 27, 2022 3:37 PM

Who's the blonde jock this season?

by Anonymousreply 20May 27, 2022 7:56 PM

The guy who plays Eddie is just a Dollar Store Dacre.

by Anonymousreply 21May 27, 2022 8:28 PM

This season is kind of a snooze.

by Anonymousreply 22May 27, 2022 9:27 PM

Where are 9 to 10???

by Anonymousreply 23May 27, 2022 9:30 PM

R20 Mason Dye, who’s been around the block way to often playing the same role and at 27 way to old to be playing high school students anymore. Also, he’s 5’8” so no sense as a basketball player either, he be much more believable as a baseball player or lacrosse which he’s usually pegged as.

by Anonymousreply 24May 27, 2022 9:34 PM

MBB looks absolutely menopausal, I’m assuming it’s part of the script like she has an aging disease like progeria that causing it.

by Anonymousreply 25May 27, 2022 9:36 PM

What’s up with the low quality wig budget, I’ve seen community theater with better wigs?

by Anonymousreply 26May 27, 2022 10:38 PM

Like that they are making the Dungeons & Dragons satanic connection which is period appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 27May 27, 2022 10:42 PM

Does Joe take his shirt off?

by Anonymousreply 28May 27, 2022 10:55 PM

Season 4 Episode one was good but wtf with the cheerleader at the end?

by Anonymousreply 29May 28, 2022 2:02 AM

They waited two years too long to release this.

by Anonymousreply 30May 28, 2022 2:05 AM

r28 Yes. Its dark though. Dustin's into his chest hair for whatever reason.

by Anonymousreply 31May 28, 2022 2:25 AM

The scale is definitely bigger here. I actually really liked this season, found the big bad really compelling, but I miss the small town feel of the first 3 seasons. Crazy how it went from a bunch of kids in the woods to gruesome torture, Russian prisons, plane crashes, etc

My favorite storyline was Max. But I think the cast is getting way too big. MBB “joked” that they need to start killing people off like GoT, and I think she’s right.

by Anonymousreply 32May 28, 2022 2:55 AM

Also, Eleven smacking the cunty popular girl in the face with the rollerblade reminded me of when Lester hits his wife with the hammer in Fargo season 1. I gasped!!!

by Anonymousreply 33May 28, 2022 2:57 AM

R24 Joe Keery is 30 and Charlie Heaton is 28.

by Anonymousreply 34May 28, 2022 3:46 AM

R34 Neither of them are playing high schoolers.

by Anonymousreply 35May 28, 2022 4:10 AM

R28 Just watch this, he plays best friends with the gay birthday boy and he sleeps over and they wank off together and maybe a kiss. It’s a pool party and he’s shirtless quite a bit.

by Anonymousreply 36May 28, 2022 4:12 AM

R35 Well when they did they were in their mid to late 20s.

by Anonymousreply 37May 28, 2022 4:13 AM

Did Air Alaska fly between small Southern Californian towns and Alaska at this time?

by Anonymousreply 38May 28, 2022 4:42 AM

R24, thanks for the info. I had no idea Mason Dye was into getting pegged!

by Anonymousreply 39May 28, 2022 4:56 AM

Wow. It's really, really shitty.

The writing, direction and acting are all terrible.

by Anonymousreply 40May 28, 2022 5:18 AM

This quotes the WSJ saying it cost 30 million dollars an episode, which questions even more, why such shitty, cheap looking wigs?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 41May 28, 2022 5:37 AM

Mason was roommates with Froy and Hunter and another guy or two for a long while, until the lockdown.

by Anonymousreply 42May 28, 2022 6:46 AM

Mason and Froy were both on Teen Wolf.

by Anonymousreply 43May 28, 2022 6:54 AM

Just a few seconds in and I'm freaking out that Netflix adjusted its logo opening sequence.

Love the crazy leader of the Hellfire Club. Total rocker dork.

by Anonymousreply 44May 28, 2022 9:40 AM

Yeah, I like him too.

by Anonymousreply 45May 28, 2022 1:02 PM

Does Ms. Ryder have any good scenes? At this point, that is what would get me to watch any of this season.

by Anonymousreply 46May 28, 2022 1:31 PM

Still no gay characters? The show is a reflection of society in that they decided to introduce a new lesbian character instead of doing the obvious: making Will gay. We all know lesbians are more accepted in society. They have hinted at his sexuality all along. I'm pissed. I feel cheated. I don't even want to watch this season.

by Anonymousreply 47May 28, 2022 2:53 PM

There was an interview a week or so ago about how Noah has a very emotional scene in part 2, and Noah posted a picture of him in a flight harness. So my working theory/hope is Vecna will drag him into his mindscape thing and make him confront it since thats Wills big dark secret.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 48May 28, 2022 3:08 PM

I just looked up the imdb credits for this latest season- it appears they filmed it in Lithuania- maybe that's why the wigs are so bad.

by Anonymousreply 49May 28, 2022 3:54 PM

The cast is far to big now, no one can really get enough time to develop. It's obvious David was busy this season and so they packed him off to Russia, away from the main cast and I have a feeling something similar happening with MBB. Season 5 needs to refocus on the originals and keep them all together.

by Anonymousreply 50May 28, 2022 4:35 PM

The whole show's been a bloated mess.

by Anonymousreply 51May 28, 2022 4:47 PM

They showed 15, why not tell us about 1 to 9?

by Anonymousreply 52May 28, 2022 6:11 PM

[quote]The cast is far to big now, no one can really get enough time to develop.

How many more people are there in the main cast than there used to be?

by Anonymousreply 53May 28, 2022 7:33 PM

S2 added Will (he was recurring in s1), Max and Joyce's boyfriend who ended up dying, Steve also got a lot more screen time since he was now a main. S3 added Lucas sister and Maurey, S4 adds Russians, Eddie, and Argyle. It wouldn't be a problem if the Duffers were better at balancing stuff and not splitting everyone into small groups that have to fight for screen time and audience interest. Lucas a main since s1 is still a very undeveloped character even compared to his later added girlfriend, and Will who only gets to say 6 lines a season.

by Anonymousreply 54May 28, 2022 8:20 PM

Maybe because it's obvious certain actors are better actors and more charismatic. Caleb McLaughlin isn't that good, and he never took off with audiences the way Galen Matarazzo or Joe Keery did, for ex.

by Anonymousreply 55May 28, 2022 9:09 PM

Nancy is horny for Steve.

by Anonymousreply 56May 28, 2022 10:43 PM

R43 Mason is also the brother of Taylor Dye, from the singing group Maddie and Tae.

by Anonymousreply 57May 28, 2022 11:13 PM

Will is heavily implied to be crushing on Mike, and is visibly averse to any attention from girls. He’ll probably explicitly come out in the second half.

The first season was good because of the comparatively minimal cast and streamlined plot. Winona was legitimately great as Joyce in that season. Bloating is a huge problem for this show.

by Anonymousreply 58May 28, 2022 11:43 PM

There was a stand-alone episode in season two or three where Elven ran off and found people like herself. Why didn’t that revelation go anywhere?

by Anonymousreply 59May 28, 2022 11:50 PM

I don’t care at all about the sheriff’s storyline, it would have been better and more meaningful if they just left him with an heroic death.

by Anonymousreply 60May 28, 2022 11:56 PM

I always thought the use of walkie-talkies was lazy on the part of the writer-producers. It's clearly a substitute for cell phones. (Average people didn't use cell phones then, and the reception was usually poor.) The show seemed to need to find a substitute means of communication other than land line phones. The Duffers probably grew up with cell phones, and seem to have no knowledge of how to write a show where people don't use some means of portable communication.

by Anonymousreply 61May 29, 2022 12:07 AM

R59, because they were badly written unlikable characters. When they didn’t get any audience love, they were dropped like hot potatoes.

by Anonymousreply 62May 29, 2022 1:02 AM

They're being so open about Will being into Mike in interviews I can't see any way they're not going to verbally confirm it and his gayness in part 2.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 63May 29, 2022 1:13 AM

Who are these Duffer Brothers anyways? Are they like the Wachowskis Brothers and will become sister later on down the line?

by Anonymousreply 64May 29, 2022 1:28 AM

R63 At this point I don't really care about Will coming out as gay and in love with Mike because it's always been obvious.

The better question is: will they give him a boyfriend?

by Anonymousreply 65May 29, 2022 1:29 AM

r65 Doubt it unless on some very outside chance they want to break up Mike and Eleven. There's only one season left, and there's no one in the current cast they can conceivably hook him up with.

by Anonymousreply 66May 29, 2022 1:32 AM

R62 They were bad actors, too.

by Anonymousreply 67May 29, 2022 1:44 AM

r59 That episode was also in the worst place fucking imaginable because it was the climax of the season. The world was being invaded from the upside down, and suddenly they inserted a stealth pilot or whatever it was a bout a bunch of randoms in Chicago. I was more annoyed than interested when I watched it

by Anonymousreply 68May 29, 2022 2:25 AM

R68 Exactly.

by Anonymousreply 69May 29, 2022 2:28 AM

The girl just annoyed the fuck out of me from her start. She was like the champion of the ugly and I just can't take those types.

by Anonymousreply 70May 29, 2022 2:33 AM

I’m just not into Steve/Nancy at all and it’s tiring they are rehashing the whole triangle AGAIN. My guess is when Nancy and Jonathan meet up at the end of the season, the spark will be reignited and Steve will lose again. Steve is one of the best characters on the show, he doesn’t need to be saddled with a love plot.

by Anonymousreply 71May 29, 2022 2:41 AM

What’s interesting about Will’s potential coming out is that they will have to invent an “80’s way” to out will. There wasn’t much gay popular movie material from the 80s for them to draw upon. I can barely name a handful of characters and most were either much older or villains.

by Anonymousreply 72May 29, 2022 3:15 AM

R72 Is everything they do based on 80s movie material?

by Anonymousreply 73May 29, 2022 3:22 AM

[quote] “80’s way” to out will

They could just finally show what's on the painting and we see he's recreated The Birth of Venus with naked Mike

by Anonymousreply 74May 29, 2022 3:34 AM

Steve deserves better than Nancy.

by Anonymousreply 75May 29, 2022 4:32 AM

Is that Cate Blanchett as the mother in the flashback?

by Anonymousreply 76May 29, 2022 5:44 AM

Why is it always dark or night in the down under, or underside whatever it is?

by Anonymousreply 77May 29, 2022 5:49 AM

Kate Bush is getting so nice residuals from this.

by Anonymousreply 78May 29, 2022 5:56 AM

So who do you think will be the one who bites it at the end of the season, Max or Nancy? I hope Max‘s aren’t foreshadowing and the last episode of the season is everyone reading what she wrote

by Anonymousreply 79May 29, 2022 5:59 AM

What Stranger Things does best is show the deep bonds, and struggles, of friendship. And the showrunners probably created one of the best redemption arc in TV and movie history with Steve, from total douchebag to a Lesbian's best straight friend (we both like boobies, BOOBIES!).

by Anonymousreply 80May 29, 2022 11:08 AM

Can anyone explain to me how Joyce is able to go to the bank and get out $40,000 (over $105,000 in today's money), when her former job was as a clerk in a drug store in Hawkins, and now she does telemarketing from home? Also, her home is much nicer than the one in Hawkins. If she got a windfall in the previous season I already forgot about it.

by Anonymousreply 81May 29, 2022 4:38 PM

r81 The house was probably paid for by the government. For the ransom they said Hopper left a trust fund for El. Also Will and Jonathan are likely going to community college after that

by Anonymousreply 82May 29, 2022 4:57 PM

Some of that makes sense. If Joyce had access to El's trust fund. Still not sure where a very small town police chief would have more than 100K in the bank at age 40 or so.

by Anonymousreply 83May 29, 2022 5:02 PM

He lived in a trailer.

by Anonymousreply 84May 29, 2022 5:03 PM

By the way, in the 80s, tuition was still very inexpensive for California residents at state colleges and universities (tuition had been free for years, but that changed under Reagan). Those kids wouldn't have had to go to community college.

by Anonymousreply 85May 29, 2022 5:09 PM

Those letters really do feel like Chekhov's gun, don't they, R79? I hope that's not the case because Max is one of the better characters on the show, but it's hard to imagine the letters being used in any way other than finally being read after her death.

by Anonymousreply 86May 29, 2022 8:48 PM

Avoiding spoilers... just popping in to say damn those are some ugly kids except for Steve with the good hair

by Anonymousreply 87May 29, 2022 11:18 PM

I enjoyed the first three seasons but this one has really jumped the shark.

Too many characters and in too many locations. Everything is over written, over directed, over designed and over acted. I"ve watched the first two episodes so far and both needed a good 20 minutes trimmed out of them.

They need to weed down this cast. We don't need this many characters.

Jonathan needs to go...he's not a good character and the actor is awful. I liked Nancy but she's also worn out her welcome and her anorexic body is terrifying.

Millie Bobbie Brown was supposed to the next hot young actress and....she's not "hot", in fact she looks like a potato, and she's a dreadful actor.

Sadie Sink is a FAR better actress than MBB. Gaten Matarazzo is annoying, but he's got great charisma. And, I like Noah Schnapp as Will...he's a decent actor and yeah, they're being very obvious about his gayness and love for Mike.

Finn Wolfhard can go....he's another one who keeps getting high profile gigs when he's unphotogenic AND a terrible actor. Caleb McLaughlin is a bore.

Joe Keery is great...he can stay. Maya Hawke was more fun last season but she's still better than the awful stick insect Natalia Dyer.

And, Mason Dye is ridiculous...why cast a dwarf to be your star basketball player?

Also: are they going to explain where Joyce got all her money?!?!? She was a struggling single mom in a dumpy house in Indiana and now she lives in a huge nice house in Cali with money in the bank.

by Anonymousreply 88May 29, 2022 11:32 PM

Winona is bug eyed, she constantly looks like she has been goosed. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 89May 29, 2022 11:52 PM

I'm rewatching the first season and just got reminded that Papa's people shot the nice chef at the diner who gave Eleven some food and shelter.

by Anonymousreply 90May 29, 2022 11:52 PM

R88 I saw MBB say somewhere that they’ve got to start Game of Throning some of the characters as it’s gotten to be to many.

by Anonymousreply 91May 29, 2022 11:55 PM

I had no idea ketamine was a thing teenagers sought out in the '80s.

by Anonymousreply 92May 29, 2022 11:57 PM

r91 I loved that interview. She was probably joking. Noah given how much his screentime is getting cut was probably serious.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 93May 30, 2022 12:04 AM

I kind of doubt they'll kill off any of the main kid characters.

Producers and writers always chicken out doing that kind of thing.

by Anonymousreply 94May 30, 2022 12:11 AM

R94 And even if they did, it certainly wouldn't be Will. They already tortured that character for like 2 & 1/2 seasons then tossed him into the background for the latter half and now it's quite clear their finally going down the gay route with him so to off him NOW would just a be disgustingly offensive move that would cascade them in (well deserved) backlash.

Netflix is already in the shitter and Stranger Things is one of the only "good" things they still have going so pissing off the Gay Mafia(TM) would be tremendously stupid.

by Anonymousreply 95May 30, 2022 1:20 AM

Well, they're not killing the black kid. Or, the goofy kid because he's popular.

I could see them killing off Mike....he sacrifices himself to save the others.

Or, that could be Eleven.

by Anonymousreply 96May 30, 2022 1:41 AM

Why does Charlie Heaton look so bad? Know he's supposed to be a major stoner now but that doesn't cover it.

by Anonymousreply 97May 30, 2022 2:00 AM

[quote]And, Mason Dye is ridiculous...why cast a dwarf to be your star basketball player?

In high school, in a small town, not all the good basketball players are giants. Besidesm how many young Hollywood actors can be convincing playing basketball - or any sport? I think Mason had to practice a lot (or so I heard), probably not being a basketball player, but he's convincing, and being straight, he's convincingly straight.

by Anonymousreply 98May 30, 2022 2:14 AM

R98 Charlie Hall was a heralded college basketball ball star and he’s doing that duty already on Love, Victor.

by Anonymousreply 99May 30, 2022 2:16 AM

R99 Okay, that's one.

by Anonymousreply 100May 30, 2022 2:18 AM

R98 I'm from a small town in the Midwest (smaller than Hawkins) and yeah, we had several 6 foot plus jocks.

But, the casting on this show has always been weird.

They seem to really enjoy casting the homely.

And, homely Brits for some reasons.

by Anonymousreply 101May 30, 2022 3:05 AM

R101 Okay but honestly, I'm from a small town in New England and this show is set in the 80s, and there were literally no guys taller than 5' 11" on our basketball team, and we had even a star player who was famous in the area. Kids for the most part were shorter in the 70s and 80s. Especially white kids - which was all the kids on my high school team - and Mason is a white kid. I mean Bob Cousy, a star of the Celtics in the 50s and 60s was only 6'1".

by Anonymousreply 102May 30, 2022 3:10 AM

* By the way, I agree Mason is short, he's officially 5'8" and may even be shorter, but I'm saying it was not unheard of at all for a basketball player to be short back then, because you didn't have all these giants, like today, because of hormones in food, or whatever. There was one kid in my school who was 6'3" and he was considered exceptionally tall. People forget.

by Anonymousreply 103May 30, 2022 3:14 AM

It’s clear they don’t know what to do with Jonathan or Will. It’s a shame because I think Noah is one of the best kid actors on the show despite being the youngest, he gave a great performance in the 2nd season especially.

Also, I like the fact that characters look like regular people… as they should! These are small town dorks. It annoys me when the “cool kids” are also beautiful people with glasses. The casting adds to the charm for me

by Anonymousreply 104May 30, 2022 3:43 AM

Winona has always had massive eyes, her age and wrinkles are just making them more prominent. I think she looks better than many actresses a decade younger than her.

by Anonymousreply 105May 30, 2022 3:47 AM

Nancy is " the most desirable girl in Hawkins". WTF?

by Anonymousreply 106May 30, 2022 4:22 AM

R106 Because again, remember what her friend looked like (RIP)? That's what a lot of girls in high school actually look like. And Nancy is cuter than that. I think Nancy is the girl guys want to date, because she's cute and looks sweet - I don't know about anyone else but in my high school days (late 70s) the cute, nice girls were the popular ones, girls didn't dress slutty and the slutty looking girls were unpopular skanks.

by Anonymousreply 107May 30, 2022 4:30 AM

Will's painting!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 108May 30, 2022 4:47 AM

r108 Wow Will you really captured Mikes nipples!

by Anonymousreply 109May 30, 2022 5:03 AM

[quote] Or, that could be Eleven.

She has sacrificed herself a dozen of times already. Bitch has more lives than a cat and Jesus combined.

The heroic act of sacrificing yourself has been overplayed by the Duffer Bros. on Stranger Things. I mean, a significant part of season four part one is dedicated to undoing Harper's heroic act of sacrifice from the previous season to keep him in the show.

The show has pretty much a red shirt dynamic where guys like Barb (or Sean Astin's Bob) stay dead, but the main cast cannot, under any circumstances, die for good.

by Anonymousreply 110May 30, 2022 5:55 AM

It never occurred to me before, but do the Duffer Bros. have a foot fetish? The actors walk around a lot with their bare feet. Harbour's tortured and freezing feet are on display for pretty much most of his scenes in s4p1. Then there's Keery in the UpsideDownworld. Not to mention Milly Bobby Brown.

by Anonymousreply 111May 30, 2022 6:01 AM

I'm on ep. 4, and the ballerina music box and Nancy/Robyn's visit to the criminally insane asylum was giving me Silence of the Lambs vibes.

by Anonymousreply 112May 30, 2022 6:03 AM

R112 Great cameo by Robert Englund too! Robin and Nancy were great together

by Anonymousreply 113May 30, 2022 6:33 AM

I agree with the comments that cast bloat hurt this show.

by Anonymousreply 114May 30, 2022 7:21 AM

Will's painting is off something that will be a key to defeating Vecna, something the mind flayer left behind.

by Anonymousreply 115May 30, 2022 8:37 AM

Hopper looks good with the weight-loss and shaved head. Sexy DILF.

by Anonymousreply 116May 30, 2022 9:37 AM

Episode 7 is epic.

by Anonymousreply 117May 30, 2022 10:09 AM

They could certainly kill off useless Jonathan, but I doubt they would want to put Joyce through that. It’ll probably be Max that dies, after her Kate Bush tape wears out. Expect a high tension scene with everyone trying to find a pencil to spool the tape back into the cassette in time before the demon finally kills her…

by Anonymousreply 118May 30, 2022 12:10 PM

It's Hopper - like Hedda - not Harper.

It's weird how the government facility always keeps those kids shoeless. Not even socks. But then a lot of things they do to the kids is depraved and abusive, so what am I saying? lol

by Anonymousreply 119May 30, 2022 6:00 PM

SPOILERS BELOW******************************

Thankfully my old twink crush JCB turned out to only be basically evil. If he had turned out to be a creeper as well (like they kind of hint at early on), I don’t think I could’ve taken it. He also actually looks like a grown up, which is rare for JCB as an actor.

I must say that I like how they’re closing the series by fully scoping the issues of Hawkins though. I don’t particularly like that they stuck with the upside down villains thru the whole show (most people agree the series should have explored something else in S3), but they seem to be closing the story well enough, IMO.

Hopefully we get JCB as a human shirtless for some reason…for science.

[quote]If she's 10, then where's 1 to 9? they should have focused on that aspect.

She's 11, not 10.

by Anonymousreply 121May 30, 2022 6:27 PM

R121 Thanks, now I understand what that post meant! I was scratching my head.

by Anonymousreply 122May 30, 2022 6:29 PM

Has anyone mentioned yet how much this series owes to Steven Spielberg?

by Anonymousreply 123May 30, 2022 7:19 PM

Has anyone mentioned how much it owes to Teen Wolf? Honestly they've stolen several things from TW already.

by Anonymousreply 124May 30, 2022 7:26 PM

Including those woods in Atlanta and that old house.

by Anonymousreply 125May 30, 2022 7:26 PM

I think 001 killed his father. He’s strapped to a tree by tendrils, right?

by Anonymousreply 126May 30, 2022 7:33 PM

I’ve only seem to episode 4 (which was brilliant, by the way, Kate Bush is awesome enough to rescue anyone from hell), but I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it so far.

Sorry, I meant 1 to 10, but seriously, where are they?

by Anonymousreply 130May 30, 2022 8:33 PM

I think at least 2 and 5 were in this season. The others probably died along the way or escaped.

by Anonymousreply 131May 30, 2022 8:39 PM

I meant, other than 1, who is of course…

by Anonymousreply 132May 30, 2022 8:40 PM

All the kids died. Only 8 survived, she was the "lost sister" who appeared in that awful episode in Chicago (season 2). Supposedly she escaped the lab way before the attack and knows nothing about it.

by Anonymousreply 133May 30, 2022 10:09 PM

R93 Watched this and a few other cast interviews and good lord that Noah kid is fruity AF.

by Anonymousreply 134May 30, 2022 11:30 PM

The Duffers have made it clear since Day One that the series is a homage to Spielberg and Stephen King and horror/sci fi/fantasy books and films of the period.

So far this season, we've had clear references to Carrie and Nightmare on Elm Street.

by Anonymousreply 135May 30, 2022 11:34 PM

R134 Yeah, Noah Schnapp does ping.

I wonder if Will's gayness happened because the actor is gay? Or, considering he's just a kid, did the Duffers pick up on the actor's gayness and thought, "hey, let's make Will gay!"

by Anonymousreply 136May 30, 2022 11:37 PM

[quote] “I feel like they never really address it or blatantly say how Will is,” he says. “I think that’s the beauty of it, that it’s just up to the audience’s interpretation, if it’s Will kind of just refusing to grow up and growing up slower than his friends, or if he is really gay.”

[quote] At this point, Brown chimed in. “Can I just say, it’s 2022 and we don’t have to label things,” she said. “I think what’s really nice about Will’s character is that he’s just a human being going through his own personal demons and issues. So many kids out there don’t know, and that’s okay. That’s okay to not know. And that’s okay not to label things.”

[quote] Schnapp agreed. “I find that people do reach to put a label on him and just want to know, so badly, like, ‘Oh, and this is it,'” he said. “He’s just confused and growing up. And that’s what it is to be a kid.”

I expect nothing and still get disappointed

Noah Schnapp being straight would certainly be a bigger plot twist than Will being gay. He pings at about 9.0 on the gay scale.

Finn Wolfhard looks like something from a Tim Burton movie.

R137 Saw this and had to agree.

Apparently it's okay to push anything straight or lesbian, but apparently if it's something for a gay male character it's "open for interpretation".

by Anonymousreply 146May 31, 2022 5:23 AM

Nobody wore a bowl cut in high school, the Duffers are doing Will wrong. I know it was popular back then with kids like Nicholas on Eight Is Enough but after grade school a bowl cut is not done.

Eleven won't die but she should. Sadie Sink blows her away talent-wise and should be the show's lead. The writers can handwave giving Eleven's powers to someone else, since of course someone's nose has to bleed as they tryreallyhardwiththeirbrain every season.

by Anonymousreply 152May 31, 2022 5:41 AM

MBB seemed to blow way past nervous and portray Eleven as mentally challenged when the students were presenting in class.

by Anonymousreply 153May 31, 2022 5:59 AM

No wonder they mocked her, seems like she would have been better off in some type of special ed

by Anonymousreply 154May 31, 2022 6:07 AM

Honestly, while it IS a bit indulgent (every single episode in this "first half" of season 4 is over an hour long), the reality is that it's just fundamentally the best season since season 1. I'm only 4 episodes in, so I guess it could still go all wrong, but it's been a lot better than seasons 2 and 3 were imho.

I agree it sucks to have a literal, open, out-there lesbian, but they can't make Will gay. Fuck that. I mean, it's okay I guess to have him "figuring it out" and taking a while (I mean, it happens, I don't understand how, but it does), but honestly, one of these seasons they should jut fucking man up and make him fall for another guy, or at least finally admit to himself he's gay if not to anyone else. I mean, I remember the 80s, it was a VERY hard time to be a young gay male. AIDS hysteria was everywhere, and it was a SERIOUSLY homophobic decade. You have no idea, those of you that didn't live through it. It was AWFUL. So I can see him staying closeted. But maybe let the viewer in a little on his internal struggle, even if he never comes out to anyone else. I didn't come out to MY friends until I went away to college, and knew I could survive on my own "just in case". I was lucky, my family was (mostly) supportive, as were my straight friends (mostly). You know Will's mom would be totally supportive. And him being "different" would be a bonding point for him and Eleven, who feels "different". They could be best buds, and it would be interesting to explore the dynamics of him being the third wheel when his two best buds were in love and in a relationship (this is something I actually lived through in college).

I do feel they're doing Lucas dirty though... he's been a real shit through the first 3 episodes. It's almost like they realized they were going to far and in episode 4 he's suddenly just back with the gang, no repercussions, which rang a little false... hope they hash that out in future episodes. But they made him so UNLIKEABLE.

LOVE his sister though. She rocks.

And Max is easily my favorite character (and actress).

He made a porn for Falcon when he grew up, using his actual name (which he denies; it was just the one) & ended up in a throuple before those were a thing.

by Anonymousreply 157May 31, 2022 6:29 AM

I really want to fuck that Finn.

Anyone had him?

by Anonymousreply 158May 31, 2022 6:37 AM

r155 she is not an open, out there lesbian. Steve is the only one who knows she is.

by Anonymousreply 159May 31, 2022 6:37 AM

Yeah, part of the plot is Steve and his friend making sure that everybody knows that they are not lovers for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 160May 31, 2022 6:39 AM

Regarding Will being gay, producer Shawn Levy hints that it will be addressed more directly in the last two episodes of the season.

[quote] Levy went on to say that fans should rest assure that all their questions will be answered in due time, saying that “there aren’t many accidents on Stranger Things.” “Without getting into where we go later in season 4 [Volume II], I guess I’ll just say that there aren’t many accidents on Stranger Things,” Levy explained. “There is clear intention and strategy and real thought given to each and every character. So, if you came away from Volume I feeling those bread crumbs of plot and character, it’s probably no accident.”

And, all those insufferable brats.

by Anonymousreply 165May 31, 2022 7:04 AM

Eleven shouldn't be in high school, is the problem. She's not a dumbass, she just doesn't know what's expected to her, Joyce seems to get highly distracted when not in go-mode so she's less help than she should be (this is my guess), and she's not getting the special - temporary but special - help she'd need to catch up to other kids.

Her presentation was mid-elementary quality, and perhaps could have done with some polishing on top, but I think the point is that a lot of people (even in her own new household) are moving on from Eleven while *Jane* isn't given the ongoing assistance to thrive. Its tempting for her to revert to her past, even if its one she logically understands was abusive, dangerous, and deceptive towards her.

That's what survivors go through and she's a survivor.

But while Eleven was actively trying to be a normal girl and failing (or being viciously pushed down), Will is stuck in nostagialand still, albeit a bit woken up from it and trying to step it way out of it, on his own terms. These kids are only in early high school, mind you, even if they look older high school or even college because of the actors. Will is still being dressed and fashioned by his mom, and he's the only one of the gang that still is, and right now, he's still happy with that. He's sentimental and its keeping him from cursing out people when they actually need it, but we get the signs that he's starting to get there.

But he's 15. Yes, some gay boys learned they were gay by 12, and arguably most by 14 or 16, but denial or even a sort of unawareness can extend even further, besides the more insidious cases of deep repression. Will isn't deeply repressed, and he's finally making some small cracks out of his shell - by the end of Season 4 (Part 2) we may see a 15-16 year old out gay teen. Robin was 17 when she came out, it was just to one person, and in a very particular circumstance.

Noah's phrasing, or rather emphasis on the matter is unfortunate, but it does describe what's going on and that its about more than just being gay. Will didn't have a real early teens, he's stuck in a developmental stasis in his mid teens that he's figuring out, and part of that is understanding what he feels and what to do about a love for his friend that definitely won't reciprocate like he's discovering he wants from him. Its part of an overall identity issue, like did he really obsess over playing D&D for the rules of the game, or the social setting, or was there something deeper that he doesn't understand yet? Like you know, a sense of community for the outcasts huh? His incentives can definitely transfer over to relatively more mature places in a Season 5/epilogue indications.

by Anonymousreply 166May 31, 2022 7:45 AM

I wish Max's favorite song was Wuthering Heights instead.

by Anonymousreply 167May 31, 2022 9:54 AM

Will was called “sexually confused” in the original script

by Anonymousreply 168May 31, 2022 9:58 AM

Will is definitely in love with Mike, which is pretty painful to watch, especially with Mike being a bit of a dick in the earlier episodes. Sadly, this being the 80’s, there’s not really anywhere much to go with Will being a gay teenager—you’d stay in the closet or your life would essentially be over. It wasn’t much better in the 90’s when I was growing up. You have a private world of thoughts and feelings, but you daren’t open up to others.

I love the Robin and Steve relationship and how cool Steve is with her, but you can see Robin is also really scared of telling anyone else. Tell the wrong person back then and your life would be hell.

by Anonymousreply 169May 31, 2022 10:12 AM

Really good posts, R166 & R169. It’s definitely hard to watch, and I definitely want more for Will, but you’re right- Will’s arc in Pt 1 isn’t unrealistic.

by Anonymousreply 170May 31, 2022 11:16 AM

r162 I just hope this isn't foreshadowing

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 171May 31, 2022 11:54 AM

Good point R169 R170. If we look at it that way it makes sense for Will's sexuality to remain ambiguous. I still think they ought to make his feelings for Mike very clear to the audience one way or another, even if he doesn't actually confess to him. Perhaps the painting will help with that.

by Anonymousreply 172May 31, 2022 12:12 PM

R171 Yes it is, it's foreshadowing Noah's coming out.

by Anonymousreply 173May 31, 2022 12:15 PM

Noah talked about Zendaya like some people here talk about Madonna, Barbra, or Cher. Zendaya is an icon to Gen Z. Music, acting, fashion, etc

by Anonymousreply 174May 31, 2022 12:41 PM

r161 Yeah thinking about it in cold light of day I'll cut Millie and Noah some slack for that awful interview. They may have just been told to avoid spoilers for part 2 and Will coming out would count as that I guess. It just comes across as amazingly tone deaf when not only is every other cast and crew member bringing it up quite openly. He spent the entire season pulling off one of the best closeted gay teen performances I've seen and either gazing longingly at him, or eying up Mike like a piece of meat. If that was accidental and Will is meant to be "unlabeled" then Noah may want to have a discussion with Finn about his feelings.

by Anonymousreply 175May 31, 2022 12:43 PM

R159, by "open, out there" I mean TO THE AUDIENCE. Sheesh. There's absolutely no ambiguity or "labels are unnecessary" crap with HER, now is there?

Maybe a lot of you have forgotten the 80s or weren't there in the 80s, but the show takes place 35 or 36 years ago and not all kids who were 16 just came out. There was no support for some small town high school kid. Will Byers, if he's a realistic gay kid in the 80s who isn't flaming, and is not suspected by everyone to be gay, could possibly stay closeted until he's out of college or beyond. One f my friends came out to me when we were 16, and I didn't even come out to him. I wasn't ready in high school and that was not unusual. Even now many kids don't.

by Anonymousreply 180May 31, 2022 7:29 PM

[quote] Will Byers, if he's a realistic gay kid in the 80s who isn't flaming, and is not suspected by everyone to be gay, could possibly stay closeted until he's out of college or beyond.

I mean everyone and their mother has apparently picked up on it. His dad and school bullies call him a fag, his mom and brother have told him its fine to be different, Mike called him out for not liking girls, and now he's sashaying around the school and eye fucking his best friend. On the other hand he's also getting random girls in class trying to play footsie with him so maybe he's flying under the radar to people who don't know him well.

by Anonymousreply 181May 31, 2022 7:40 PM

I would love for Will to have a scene with Robin. If you think about it, both are in the same place: both have a same sex crush on a friend but are scared to admit to it, as they fear the backlash. Robin was able to come out to her friend Steve, maybe she could help Will at least come out to someone

by Anonymousreply 191June 1, 2022 4:57 AM

Will doesn't need to have some big grand coming out scene and not everyone needs to find out. We just need to have him at least acknowledge his sexuality in some way.

by Anonymousreply 192June 1, 2022 5:03 AM

R191 I misread that as Will having a sex scene with Robin, & was like WTF are you thinking??

by Anonymousreply 193June 1, 2022 5:27 AM

I'm watching the first episode, and I have some questions

Do high schools in Indiana really have lunch tables outside? In grew up in Minnesota and we never did that--it would be too cold for most of the school year to eat outside. I thought that was just a thing they had in the American Southwest.

The actor who plays new character, Eddie Munson, is terrific, but the character tells the cheerleader who gets killed he has tattoos. Did kids in h.s. really have tattoos in the 1980s? I thought even the smoker kids didn't have those until the 1990s.

Has anyone ever established whether the actress who plays Nancy has anorexia? She looks awful yet again.

Yes, some hesher and metal heads had tattoos, mostly homemade. Eddie is likely a few years older to boot, even if he is a senior.

The shootout in the Byers house was intense. That was probably my favorite scene of the season. Very well done, and I liked how competent the one agent was. I thought he was just a fat lump, but he did a great job (even though he died).

Joyce is going to freak when she gets home, lol.

I saw Will managed to keep his backpack and the painting on him as they fled. We will definitely see what he painted. Probably in his coming out scene to Mike.

by Anonymousreply 211June 1, 2022 1:14 PM

The part that made me laugh out loud was when Steve was about to dive in the water to get to the watergate and had taken his shirt off and Dustin and Lucas were talking about his chest hair and Max says “let me see” and takes the binoculars and just watches him silently for a long moment.

I would do the same, Joe Keery looked good.

by Anonymousreply 220June 1, 2022 6:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 221June 1, 2022 6:44 PM

Will can do better than Marilyn Manson Mike.

Will and Mike are never gonna happen. The most we’ll get is Will coming out and admitting his feelings and even then I’m not so sure.

by Anonymousreply 223June 1, 2022 6:48 PM

R186 Could be. I thought as well he might be gay. But he had some pretty messy on/off relationships with co-stars and there's also a fan video of him performing at a festival with his band, where he stands besides the stage and makes out with his girlfriend before coming on stage. So if he is truly closeted, he's pretty much method acting as a straight guy. Or he's just British.

by Anonymousreply 224June 1, 2022 6:55 PM

The only way Will and Mike are going to happen is when Will is dying and Mike is giving him a pity kiss on the mouth in Will's final moments.

by Anonymousreply 225June 1, 2022 6:56 PM

Just finished, so Eleven doesn’t have to feel bad about having killed all those kids, she’ll feel bad that she created the whole underworld or afterlife or whatever it’s called and unleashed everything that’s happened? That’s a level of guilt to make her want to end it all.

by Anonymousreply 226June 1, 2022 7:05 PM

Surely Will has developed a crush or attraction to one of them California boys.

by Anonymousreply 227June 1, 2022 7:06 PM

Winona and Hopper’s embrace was a direct reference to Keaton and Beatty in Reds, right?

by Anonymousreply 228June 1, 2022 7:13 PM

How do you manage to ignore the storyline about Mike being mysteriously unable to love El the way she wants? I didn't think it was that subtle. Well, be surprised next month if that's the way you like it.

by Anonymousreply 229June 1, 2022 7:16 PM

Raise of hands, how many of us were googling that Jaime Bower guy today?

by Anonymousreply 230June 1, 2022 7:25 PM

R229 I think that was just to lend to Eleven’s increased feelings of isolation which is why she goes with Paul Reiser. Mike can’t express his feelings, all the kids in her school view her as public enemy #1, papa 2 is dead (or so she thinks) and flaky Winona skipped town.

by Anonymousreply 231June 1, 2022 7:30 PM

r231 Obviously. But what is Mike's deal? He needs a reason just as flaky Winona had an actual reason to skip. Signing a letter "Love" to someone who already sent you a letter that way is not hard by any stretch of the imagination. It's a "friends don't lie" and oops I guess I'm gay thing. No other explanation that makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 232June 1, 2022 7:47 PM

Mike is just an incredibly awkward teenager, that’s all i took it to be. There have been less than zero signs that he’s attracted to guys.

by Anonymousreply 233June 1, 2022 7:53 PM

r227 His only option is this guy, and admittedly he looks even gayer than Will himself does.

R230, I did look him up to see how he was doing. JCB is gorgeous, but he’s been around for the last decade. And if you watch fantasy stuff, he was a pretty well-known twink (for being hot, not so much his acting).

When they revealed that Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald and then they showed JCB as Grindewald stealing the elder wand back during the original Harry Potter series, I was like “Ok, I understand Dumbledore’s position on this” 😂

The line about Steve's chest hair was weird. I don't think he had chest hair in earlier seasons, and this season is only supposed to be 6 months later.

by Anonymousreply 237June 2, 2022 2:25 AM

Saidie Sink...is she really that great? She has one facial expression. And that one is resting bitch face.

by Anonymousreply 238June 2, 2022 2:43 AM

R237 The whole point was that Steve was growing out his chest hair and Dustin told him that he shouldn't.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 240June 2, 2022 4:12 AM

Noah Schnapp has grown up to be good-looking. they had to give him that awful bowlcut to decrease his attractiveness.

The children have all grown up to be decent actors, except for Finn Wolfhard (who takes. Too many. Pauses.) , and Gaten Matarazzo (who grossly overacts in moments of intensity). They grew up to be the two ugliest too, unfrotunately.

I like that they've given Winona ryder a lot of comedy to do this season, which is where she excels. It's fascinating to me she's had no plastic surgery given how beautiful she is--I would have guessed she would have had a lot of it by this time, but she seems determined to be able to play character parts believably.

by Anonymousreply 241June 2, 2022 5:04 AM

Puberty happens fast, man.

It kinda strained credulity that he could dive AT NIGHT down what appeared to be at least 30 feet under water, skin-diving, and stay down there that long. Also strained credulity that the water was that clear near the gate, but they couldn't see the glow from the surface. Or that he would have seen the tentacle thing and not immediately gotten into the boat as fast as he could. I mean, I'm sure all those kids saw "Jaws" at some point.

That said, it's still a fun show, a good episode, and I'll let most of it slide for "dramatic effect" I guess. But there have been quite a few scenes that could have hewn closer to reality and not lost any dramatic effect (and in fact, could have increased the drama... like showing him struggling to hold his breath or something).

Anyway. Episode 6 is done. Two more to go before we have to wait for "part 2" of Season 4.

by Anonymousreply 242June 2, 2022 5:05 AM

The most hilarious thing to me is that the Blasian high school counselor that first the soon-to-be-murdered cheerleader saw and then Max sees has pretty much the exact same hairdo as RuPaul as Mrs. Cummings (the high school counselor Jan sees) in "The Brady Bunch Movie." That's a brilliant intertextual reference.

by Anonymousreply 248June 2, 2022 8:05 AM

They showed the Vecna much too much hanging from its web of tenatacles. The more you see it, the less scary it is.

by Anonymousreply 249June 2, 2022 8:13 AM

[quote] There was a line about him being kept back a couple of times. He still looks waaaay too old for high school.

I think they’re having to cast the older teens with late twentysomethings so that the 20 year olds playing the original boys look like freshmen in comparison.

by Anonymousreply 250June 2, 2022 8:27 AM

This was like one of those bad Nightmare on Elm street sequels. It is obvious the Duffer brothers are telling the same non sensical story each season with a few tweaks here and there like Joyce looking for Hooper instead of her son etc.. zZZZZz.

by Anonymousreply 251June 2, 2022 8:39 AM

Caleb and his sassy sista are really bad actors , they stick out like sore thumbs.

by Anonymousreply 252June 2, 2022 8:41 AM

It's so stupid that Erica has a blaccent while Lucas doesn't. And neither do their parents.

It's also nonsensical because there's no way she would develop that accent in 99% white Hawkins.

by Anonymousreply 253June 2, 2022 8:45 AM

I love sassy Erica. She doesn't suffer fools gladly.

by Anonymousreply 254June 2, 2022 9:06 AM

R194 It was rare to see a teenager with a tattoo in the late 80's. If you were a teen with a tattoo, you were outside the norm, and most people would've stereotyped you negatively. It's easy to see why Eddie Munson is seen as a "freak" - D&D, long hair, listens to heavy metal, tattoos, lives in a trailer park, sells drugs. As superficial as it seems now, that guy would've had a target on his back, especially from the jocks.

by Anonymousreply 255June 2, 2022 9:23 AM

I find Robin incredibly, frustratingly annoying this season. Her lack of boundaries and the constant talking and overthinking is obnoxious. I don't remember her being like this during the third season. One of the kids needs to tell her to shut up, at least Erica or Max.

by Anonymousreply 256June 2, 2022 9:26 AM

I want to see more Will!

by Anonymousreply 257June 2, 2022 9:29 AM

R256 Yep they drastically changed Robin's personality for no reason and for the worse.

by Anonymousreply 258June 2, 2022 9:37 AM

I noticed that with Robin, last season she was sort of awkward and distant but cool and calm, I guess the excuse could be that now she feels more confident and comfortable with Steve, she's more like her true self.

by Anonymousreply 259June 2, 2022 9:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 263June 2, 2022 10:07 AM

[quote] Oh please, Will is the type to be terrified of anal sex.

A great deal of people who suffered serious trauma seek pain as a means to cope with the struggles they face in life. Not necessarily in sex, but other means like cutting yourself or that human ashtray thing (putting out burning cigarettes on one's skin). However, I doubt Stranger Things will go there with Will.

by Anonymousreply 264June 2, 2022 10:14 AM

I think Will would be alright by about his college era. He seems to be the only one the California move has actually been good for since he's now fine telling El off for being an idiot or singing the first few bars of Never Ending story as a joke. He' got a good support system with Joyce and Jonathan, and if he can stay away from Hawkins he'd probably be a relatively well adjusted artsy twink by his 20s.

Erika can be handwaved to be picking it up from media.

Robin can be handwaves to be just showing more of herself - too much of herself sometimes - after becoming more comfortable. The show knows she's annoying, so that indicates its a phase. The characters go through adolescent phases every single season.

Personally, I'm looking forward to witty catty Will next season (my prediction). Yeah, tell off your mom, friends, pseudo-step-sister and whatever! They doesn't deserve a pass for shitty treatment just because they fought the earth and beyond for you several years ago! It was several years!

Well, that's my hope. Haha.

by Anonymousreply 271June 2, 2022 2:59 PM

R249 think that might be intentional though? He goes from being a totally ominous enemy before this season, to being almost completely human of one. The mystique is over now, so he just needs to be stopped, defeated. Nightmares end.

He's the gifted general, not the big bad. He just shows more of what the big bad is capable of, what it can employ if it gets its tentacles on certain humans.

by Anonymousreply 272June 2, 2022 3:02 PM

[quote]The whole point was that Steve was growing out his chest hair and Dustin told him that he shouldn't.

I'll have to watch the scene again, I'm sure you're right (?) but this is the 80s and why would you "grow out" your chest hair? Kids didn't usually shave theire body hair then. I mean he now has chest hair this season and they didn't have to have anyone comment on it in a scene unless they figured you'd notice he didn't have chest hair when he screwed around with Nancy and now he has it. They made a joke out of it. That's how I saw it.

by Anonymousreply 273June 2, 2022 4:19 PM

Q I’m up to episode 5, puzzled about why Vecna killed Victor Creel’s family and not him? Vecna hasn’t been killing anyone else’s family members, why would he kill the guiltless vs those who supposedly did something they feel remorseful about (like Victor during the War).

I agree that Joe Keery and Sadie Sink are the only two of the teens/kids who are good looking. They both can act pretty well too. Though Maya Hawke looks good in some angles and Noah Schnapp would be a lot more attractive if they let him have a better haircut - why are they making the nerdy closeted gay kid also look intentionally ugly? Poor Will. The girl who plays Nancy looks like Karen Carpenter circa 1980.

The adults look mostly great, especially Winona. I think she seriously cleaned up her life after the shoplifting scandal and moving to NYC. She's been with the same (pretty hunky looking) guy for over a decade.

by Anonymousreply 280June 2, 2022 7:07 PM

[quote]Though Maya Hawke looks good in some angles and Noah Schnapp would be a lot more attractive if they let him have a better haircut - why are they making the nerdy closeted gay kid also look intentionally ugly?

Because it wouldn't make sense if he was attractive but still had no friends.

They had to give Schnapp and Caleb McLaughlin especially ugly haircuts to visually clarify why they would still be nerds hanging out with Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo.

by Anonymousreply 281June 3, 2022 1:55 AM

I feel like this season they tried to make Robin more like the Martha Plimpton character from "The Goonies," which was a big mistake.

by Anonymousreply 282June 3, 2022 2:08 AM

It’s 1986 this season, so they are running out of time for more overt John Hughes references . Pretty in Pink was his last true brat pack hit but they have already had a season end with a prom. I guess they could use some of the music. Stand by Me has been referenced since season 1 (although also a 1986 early fall release).

by Anonymousreply 295June 3, 2022 6:43 AM

I like this season, but being as this is the 4th season, the novelty has long since worn off and the sci fi plot is old by now. The human interest is what keeps me watching. I think it’s time to end the show. I know they have one more season, but many shows out there shouldn’t go on as long as they do, and their last season ends up being the worst because the writers really flounder or blow everything up because it’s ending.

by Anonymousreply 296June 3, 2022 6:52 AM

Is the next season the last season?

by Anonymousreply 297June 3, 2022 7:27 AM

by Anonymousreply 300June 3, 2022 7:38 AM

So did Eleven CREATE the Upside Down??

Also, the final two episodes are super-long... episode 9 is well over 2 hours long.

The only reason the season was split in two like this is that they weren't done with the final two episodes, the last one being feature-film length. Seems like it could have been a standard 12 episode season, personally.

I kinda feel like episode 7 (at an hour an a half) could have been two episodes, and they could easily split a 2+ hour episode into two separate episodes... no sure why they're doing it this way.

by Anonymousreply 311June 3, 2022 7:31 PM

Just finished the initial seven eps last night. LITERALLY my first thought in the first scene with Noah was, "Holy shit, he just pinged my 'dar! Guess his latent orientation sprang to the surface during Covid!" And that was *before* he started making googly eyes at Mike. I've been avoiding reading anything about it for spoiler-avoidance purposes, but obviously he pinged 'dars across the globe.

Some other thoughts:

[quote]Did Air Alaska fly between small Southern Californian towns and Alaska at this time?

Actually, it did! The airlines were deregulated in the early '80s, and after launching service to SFO & Portland, Alaska added it to smaller SoCal airports – Burbank, Ontario & Palm Springs – by '85. (The only silly part is the idea that "Lenora Hills" would have its own airport.)

R41's NPR link perfectly sums up the season's pros and cons, and the former only barely outweighs the latter. Considering the Russian prison-escape sequence in "Black Widow" – also featuring David Harbour, albeit one with superpowers – took all of 15 minutes of screen time, how the FUCK did it take an entire season to reunite him & Joyce? (Also, Murray is a character who's best in small doses, and definitely NOT as a character with more lines than Joyce, Hopper, or anyone else outside of Hawkins. I would've MUCH preferred to see more of Erica than him.) While it was massively bloated, the sequence with Eleven in Nevada at least had a *point*, namely exposition for the Upside-Down and One (001?) being the actual Big Bad this whole time. All the shit in California was just stupid, and it was painfully obvious within the first 20 minutes that the writers are reuniting Steve & Nancy (after hooking her up with Jonathan solely because Steve was an admitted douche the first season).

Speaking of Steve, I definitely agree with this quote: "Say this for the series' uneven maturation: The creators understand that Joe Keery as Steve and Maya Hawke as Robin are emerging as MVPs on a show in which he originally played kind of a toolbag and she wasn't even there. And Sadie Sink, who plays the similarly later-added Max, does much of the heaviest emotional work in this section, and she does it very well."

[quote]There was a stand-alone episode in season two or three where Elven ran off and found people like herself. Why didn’t that revelation go anywhere?

Fangirl whining, basically. The same reason Nancy & Jonathan spent way too much time in S2 investigating the death of chubster Barb: fellow chubs got pissy that she was essentially an invisible, one-note character, never mind that LITERALLY EVERY horror show/movie/anything has them.

[quote]If Joyce had access to El's trust fund. Still not sure where a very small town police chief would have more than 100K in the bank at age 40 or so.

I assumed Joyce got the cash either as hush money from the government or maybe from Hopper's pension or life insurance (since he was obviously presumed dead plus pensions still existed back then, and El was his only heir).

[quote]I had no idea ketamine was a thing teenagers sought out in the '80s.

They weren't. MDMA was the "drug du jour" of the era, and even GHB wasn't yet used as a party drug. (Ketamine was still used solely as a horse tranquilizer.) But, as we've established, the Duffers are millennials who know all the standard '80s tropes (malls, video games, etc.) but – having been preschool age when the show takes place – are lacking in levels of *detail*. As one example: Suzie may be a "genius," but absolutely no one in 1986 would've been prognosticating that the internet would soon "change the world" – nor would she have been using the term "internet" in the first place. It technically existed, but was used to describe interconnected computer networks, not what we know today as "the Internet."

by Anonymousreply 312June 3, 2022 7:44 PM

r310 They'd be like a gen z version of Will and Grace.

r311 I'd love for Mike and Will to become a thing. They're a pretty good couple at those points Mike isn't an ass, and clearly care about each other, and that level of representation on Netflix biggest show would be amazing

But I have no faith they're going to break up Mike and Eleven this late in the shows life. Most I've any hope for is them having Mike say he reciprocates in some way (which given the way Finn has him look at Will some times I'd say there's a reasonable amount of proof for) but is already in a relationship. Which would probably going to lead to the greatest shipping war in twitters history.

by Anonymousreply 313June 3, 2022 8:05 PM

They are not going to write two little homosexual boys into the show.

[quote]Why does Charlie Heaton look so bad? Know he's supposed to be a major stoner now but that doesn't cover it.

I remember right before the launch of the third season that he was almost denied an entry visa into the US for the premiere (he's British) because he had several arrests for drug possession. (Which would explain why he looks like shit and why Jonathan has been so plainly backburnered this year.)

[quote]Eddie is likely a few years older to boot, even if he is a senior.

They joked several times that he'd failed his senior year repeatedly, so yes, Eddie is supposed to be older.

[quote]The part that made me laugh out loud was when Steve was about to dive in the water to get to the watergate and had taken his shirt off and Dustin and Lucas were talking about his chest hair and Max says “let me see” and takes the binoculars and just watches him silently for a long moment.

LOVED that, but don't forget Dustin's line, "When did Steve get so hairy?" (Probably a decade earlier, given that Joe Keery's 30.)

[quote]Obviously Will will get Mike. What else is the point of him not loving El? And yes, some boys kissed boys, even in the 80s. Hell, even in the 1780s.

Oh FFS. Mike still loves El; they've merely been problems making a long-distance relationship work. It's Netflix, not Logo – and "Stranger Things," not "Euphoria" – so I'd be surprised if Will gets any kind of kiss, period (and certainly nothing more than that - he's supposed to be 15, and the last thing Netflix needs is right-wingers accusing them of pushing some absurd "grooming" storyline).

[quote]No other explanation that makes sense.

Except for the "incredibly awkward teenager" one that instantly occurred to me, as well as the immediate poster afterwards.

[quote]I agree that Joe Keery and Sadie Sink are the only two of the teens/kids who are good looking. They both can act pretty well too. Though Maya Hawke looks good in some angles and Noah Schnapp would be a lot more attractive if they let him have a better haircut - why are they making the nerdy closeted gay kid also look intentionally ugly?

Oh good lord. They're supposed to be NERDS, PEOPLE! Back in the '80s nerds weren't good-looking! So: Steve & Max are hot, but OTOH neither of them are nerds. Considering she's the child of Ethan Hawke and, more importantly, Uma Thurman, I have to disagree that Maya Hawke only looks good "in some angles" (more like all). And what, Will's the only one with a bad haircut? Most of them have cheesy, dated haircuts, from Steve's mullet to Lucas's high-top (and Nancy and her mom have classic "fried mall perm" hair).

If any of you bitches went to school in the '80s and still have your yearbooks, you might be in for a shock at how accurate the hair & costumes are.

[quote]I'm more shocked that the show expects us to believe Erica is 11 in season 4 than the way she talks.

Why? That's how the boys talked in S1 when they were 12. Or should Erica talk more delicately because she's female? (Point being: kids all cuss, especially when their parents aren't around.)

[quote]So did Eleven CREATE the Upside Down??

Oh FFS. (Again.) No, El didn't create the Upside-Down. It's been there the whole time. What she did was open a portal to it in the process of taking out One (#1?). That was in 1979. Four years later the government was actively (but covertly) trying to figure out how to weaponize it, which was when Will was first taken into it. We don't yet know things like why it exists; how #1/Vecna ended up there (and whether he/it controls the whole thing); or even why time seems to have stopped in the Upside-Down in '83 on the day Will was taken. (It's probably more complicated than merely, "El opened it up.")

[quote]So “Byler” is Will and Hopper? What a vile bottom cunt, stealing his mama’s man and his fag hag’s father. I’d watch that sex tape though.

I'm guessing this is a joke, but just in case: Will BYers + Mike WheeLER = "Byler."

by Anonymousreply 316June 3, 2022 8:48 PM

So, here's a good question...are any of these people going to have any kind of career after this show is done?

Millie Bobby has major projects in production and so does Sadie Sink.

The rest...not so much.

Even Finn Wolfhard, who seemed to be on a roll for awhile with big films, has slowed down with projects. He has weirdo character actor written all over him.

by Anonymousreply 317June 3, 2022 9:15 PM

[quote] We don't yet know things like why it exists; how #1/Vecna ended up there (and whether he/it controls the whole thing);

Uh, we know Vecna's origin story. The show also established his position within the big bad hierarchy. Spoiler Alert: He's not the ultimate big bad of the Upside Down World.

by Anonymousreply 318June 3, 2022 9:19 PM

I suspect the ultimate Big Bad will be the Borg.

by Anonymousreply 319June 3, 2022 9:21 PM

I see Finn continuing to get roles because he’s strikingly pretty like Ezra Miller.

None of them seem to strongly pursue other roles other than Finn, even low budget shit that they could’ve nailed.

Unfortunately, I sometimes get fundie/repub vibes from Noah. If so, I doubt his career survives. If he gains some independence and independence in a few years, he might have a decent career.

by Anonymousreply 320June 3, 2022 9:26 PM

R320 should’ve read “independence and CONFIDENCE in a few years”

by Anonymousreply 321June 3, 2022 9:29 PM

r317 Millie only has projects in work at Netflix. Other studios don't seem that interested, or are unwilling to pay what she's asking.

Finn is in a pretty well received A24 film at the moment and has the best filmography right now, but he has been a pretty weak actor the last 2 series though so I'm not really sure about his career longevity.

Noah IMHO one of the better actors in the cast and his eye acting is really expressive. But the last thing he was in was an Adam Sandler film and he's going to Wharton to study the business side of acting so he may give up on taking roles anyway.

Sadie has had a pretty good year but the best reviewed product she's had so far is a music video. But she'll probably do pretty well. In long-term I'd bet on her over Millie.

Caleb I don't really know that much about. He seems pretty wooden in ST but that Concrete Cowboys was meant to be pretty good and Lucas is a character they don't seem to know what to do with so not sure if I can judge him on that.

Gaten Good at comedy but best will in the world I think his looks will pigeon hole him a bit. I think I read he's going back to Broadway though.

by Anonymousreply 325June 3, 2022 11:33 PM

In 1983 I did a book report on Billy Hayes of Midnight Express fame, much based on those Gay sex scenes in the Turkish prison (the movie had him turn down the hot Swede, but there was full on Gay sex in the book) I was forbidden from presenting to the full class and was only allowed to do it one on one with the teacher. Mainly for the drug use, I don’t think the Gay sex was even on their radar.

by Anonymousreply 326June 3, 2022 11:39 PM

Mike and Eleven are already broken up. Now they need to resolve things one way or another. Don't see how how them getting back together AGAIN would be any kind of satisfying storyline for anyone. They are clearly not written to work as a couple.

by Anonymousreply 327June 3, 2022 11:54 PM

Maybe Eleven will sit Mike down and give us Baroness Schroeder “…somewhere out there is a lady who…I think will never be a nun” and then saunter off.

by Anonymousreply 328June 4, 2022 12:02 AM

Does anyone remember reading blinds about Millie's family pimping her out and possible sexual assault stuff? I also remember reading a blind item about Sadie Sink getting assaulted or groped by either the Duffer brothers or crew the first season she was there. That is horrifying if it's true.

I keep hearing stories about sets where there are a lot of kids and predator stuff. I read about the Harry Potter kids being never left alone on set because of people who wanted to assault them.

How widespread is this kind of terrible shit?

Her family are meant to be shit I think she supports every last one of them in some way or other (dad's her agent, brothers her principal photographer, etc). R329 It's wild how wide spread predatory behaviour seems to be in Hollywood, during the making of the first Harry potter movie Michael Jackson repeatedly tried to meet Daniel Radcliffe, but his parents, the director and JK Rowling stopped the studio from allowing that to happen.

by Anonymousreply 348June 4, 2022 8:38 PM

I just finished it. I didn't really enjoy it until the last two episodes; before that, watching it felt like a chore.

With the 11 storyline, I was confused about what was a flashback and what was happening in current time. She's wearing the crew-cut wig now, so we're going to pretend she's five years younger than she looks. So 11, who is good, cast the evil man (001, who was doing an impression of young David Spade) into a dark underworld, from where he continuously tried to overtake the souls of people still on Earth. Kind of like God casting Satan from heaven to hell. (Also kind of like what happened to Darth Vader.). 001 got his powers from black widow spiders?

Every time the action jumped to Russia, I got bored. It broke up the rhythm of the show. The Russia action didn't get good until the Gladiator show. They should have jumped to that much earlier and skipped the filler.

Mike, Will, Jonathan and his new Cheech/Chong buddy didn't have much to do. I didn't miss them. I thought the most interesting storylines were the Hawkins people and the Nevada facility where 11 was. Steve and Dustin are fun when paired together. They even had a meta argument this season about always being paired together. Nancy and Robin each became more interesting when they were paired together, too.

What was missing: a viral moment. Every once in a while I go back to YouTube and watch Dustin perform the Never-ending Story song with Susie, and I get chill bumps. The montage video of the other characters reacting to their performance is hilarious, the song arrangement and performance is fun and sweeping, and of course, it's an unexpected shot of 80s nostalgia. I was hoping for another moment like that this season, but I didn't find it.

by Anonymousreply 349June 4, 2022 9:33 PM

[quote] What was missing: a viral moment.

Did you miss the whole Running Up The Hill thing that got the song back on top of the charts? That's pretty impressive.

by Anonymousreply 352June 4, 2022 9:44 PM

[quote]With the 11 storyline, I was confused about what was a flashback and what was happening in current time. She's wearing the crew-cut wig now, so we're going to pretend she's five years younger than she looks.

I thought they were showing the current 11 seeing in her mind and enactin g in her mind the actions of the younger 11. I thought that's why they were able to have her be her current age. Meanwhile, they showed the younger 11 as well (one time, as a mirror image) - played by another actress. I think we were supposed to figure out we were seeing the younger 11. I could be wrong, I was tired when I watched it.

R353 this season seems to be leaning into time travel, Elevens plot follows the X-Men: Days of Future Past rule of sending your conscious into the past rather than physically traveling, so I think the finale twist will be something to do with time travel.

by Anonymousreply 359June 4, 2022 11:29 PM

I’m confused, what are these viral moments, I’ve not heard that term before? Is it something embedded in a series or movie that you click on and jumps to another platform?

by Anonymousreply 360June 5, 2022 12:12 AM

The lab story actually bored me a bit. Ok, but not the best. Liked episode 3 and 4 most.

I don’t like Susie at all. She’s annoying. I sincerely hope she doesn’t join the boys on the road trip to Hawkins.

Building to Will’s revelation since the first 15 minutes of season 1. I think they’ll get it right as clearly this is not an add on like whatever JK did with Dumbledoor. July 1st is the new gay day!

by Anonymousreply 370June 5, 2022 3:20 AM

Yeah, Will is obviously gay and has a crush on Mike. Mike is straight and will be fine with Will being gay and will let him down gently after Will confesses his feelings. Will’ll be okay.

That’s the most I’ve ever used the word will in a sentence. Props to me.

by Anonymousreply 373June 5, 2022 7:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 376June 5, 2022 8:06 AM

If the Upside Down World being stuck in a particular moment in time is a part of the mystery, how - in season one - was Will communicating with his mom with lights that were added to the home, and placed in a certain way, after the time the UDW is supposedly stuck in?

by Anonymousreply 377June 5, 2022 4:07 PM

Will was helping Joyce install more flattering back lighting in the house to hide her crow’s feet and eye bags. Like any good gay son would do.

by Anonymousreply 378June 5, 2022 4:16 PM

R377, it's not "stuck" in that time... that was the time when all the people vanished. Or, from another point of view, a time when THIS world was copied/imprinted on THAT world. Or created from whole-cloth... a snapshot of this world taken at that moment in time.

Obviously they're not "stuck in the past" when they cross over, and then communicate with people in THIS world, and cross back. It's just that... the other world "stopped" at that point in time. No more journal entries. No more people. Nothing really changed except being degraded and destroyed by the evil entities over there.

by Anonymousreply 379June 5, 2022 4:49 PM

r379. I don't understand the point you are trying to make.

Nancy couldn't find her gun in the Upside Down World, because it's not where she placed it in her recent real world.

Will vanished in season one, came to the Upside Down version of his home and then, what? The colorful, strategically placed lights were there?

by Anonymousreply 380June 5, 2022 4:59 PM

R380 The upside down was frozen in time the moment Will got sucked into it, Nancy’s guns weren’t there because she got the guns years later.

by Anonymousreply 381June 5, 2022 5:03 PM

r381, that's exactly my point. Joyce put up the lights AFTER Will got sucked into the Upside Down World, did she not?

by Anonymousreply 382June 5, 2022 5:07 PM

Joyce put the lights up in the real world, not in the upside down, r382.

by Anonymousreply 383June 5, 2022 5:11 PM

r383, once again, exactly. How did Will communicate with her from the Upside Down World if the lights were not there?

by Anonymousreply 384June 5, 2022 5:13 PM

r382 Lights in the real world have some sort of crossover effect in the Upside Down. They show it in this season with the Lightbright. I'm more unclear how and why Will was able to understand how to spell out full messages though.

by Anonymousreply 385June 5, 2022 5:15 PM

We are overthinking it, this show is completely non sensical and the Duffer brothers just add whatever they want when they are stoned and need to meet deadlines.

by Anonymousreply 386June 5, 2022 5:15 PM

There is cross over between worlds, r384. Some things that happen in the upside down create, e.g., energy surges in the real world. But the lights are in the real world. (Roll with it: it’s fantasy.)

by Anonymousreply 387June 5, 2022 5:16 PM

My bad, I should have included the letters in my comments and not just the lights.

by Anonymousreply 388June 5, 2022 5:17 PM

[quote] We are overthinking it, this show is completely non sensical and the Duffer brothers just add whatever they want when they are stoned

I do love that the fandom overthinks what item placement in every scene means in subtext. When the reality of the Duffer brothers attention to detail is they managed to set an entire episode on Wills birthday and not even notice.

[quote]Nancy couldn't find her gun in the Upside Down World, because it's not where she placed it in her recent real world.

Yes, because the UpsideDown is a snapshot of what the word was like years ago. But that doesn't mean that when you go there, you're "three years ago". You're just in the world of 3 years ago that was frozen at that point in time, but you are still in "now".

Let me break it down so even a simpleton can understand it.

You take a picture of your dresser.

A year goes by. You put a new razor on your dresser.

A year goes by. You look at the photo. Is the photo going to show the new razor that's still there? No.

Is the photo "stuck in the past"? No, it's right there with you, right now. It's just a SNAPSHOT of the past.

Get it?

I loved Eddie. He easily could have been annoying but the actor really has a young Robert Downey Jr. charm that makes him very likable, along with the writers resisting the temptation to make him a Outcast Asshole trope. I really felt bad about the cheerleader dying so horribly because their scene together was so cute.

I'm also loving the homages to Nightmare of Elm Street and Poltergeist (the latter of which tbf were there S1 but the interdemensional rope scene was a cool nod), and the use of the period accurate "Santanic Panic" sentiment in the story. The homage to Silence of the Lambs was a little odd since that's a 90s movie, but we got a cool Robert Englund cameo out of it so I'll allow it.

My biggest problem with this season is how long the episodes were. Usually something was always happening given that there are a million storylines but I really felt exhausted after two episodes. I had to space out my binge to get through.

by Anonymousreply 397June 5, 2022 10:54 PM

"He easily could have been annoying but the actor really has a young Robert Downey Jr. charm that makes him very likable" Jesus, I've seen this line everywhere and I do not see it. I swear it's some Netflix advertising firm or his agency pushing this, the actor was okay but he has the flashiest part so of course everyone falls for him. The guy playing Steve is a much better actor, the strongest of the bunch this year though was Sadie Sink, especially if you consider her focus episode was affected by covid and she had a lot of green screen scenes and yet she still delivered and then some.

So, just to be sure: The Lite Brite the little girl played with in the present (and the gang took from her) was the same as the one in the Upside Down World? Meaning that Lite Brite was in the family's possession for several years and the girl STILL played with it, a toy several years old? Like, the toy was still popular and not broken or thrown out after years of owning it?

Nowadays, these types of toys barely survive, or get played with, after half a year. Always a new shiny toy mommy and daddy are supposed to buy. Apparently, the 80s were not so "out with the old, in with the new" commercial as the world is now.

r407, thanks for that reasonable response.

by Anonymousreply 408June 5, 2022 11:23 PM

I heard they releasing a new Lite Bright that plays Running Up that Hill (Deal with God) on a loop.

Same goes for sound. Otherwise, "Running Up The Hill" would not have worked for Max.

R405, everyone gets it but you. It's been explained to you half a dozen times already. How in the fuck do you not get this? There is no time-travel going on.

Vecna/001 said his mother knew what she had done and that he punished her for that. What did she do? Did she perhaps take meds that could have caused his powers? El’s mom took drugs I thought…?

Will time travel be the only way to save Nancy? Is Steve even with her or is she in a different dimension in the upside down?

by Anonymousreply 417June 6, 2022 12:05 PM

What's with that time travel shit ?

by Anonymousreply 418June 6, 2022 1:03 PM

[quote] Vecna/001 said his mother knew what she had done and that he punished her for that. What did she do? Did she perhaps take meds that could have caused his powers? El’s mom took drugs I thought…?

She made an appointment with Martin Brenner (Mathew Modine) to turn him into a lab rat. He found out about it, and she had to go. As the voice-over said, in the end (killing his family) he ended up in Dr. Brenner's care anyway.

by Anonymousreply 419June 6, 2022 1:08 PM

R418, if you’re talking about the grandfather clock, I think it just represents Henry’s hatred of the fake-ass cycle that we all live each day and wants to end it. He could turn the hands backwards, but I saw it as just the physical manifestation of his psychic abilities. I didn’t take that as time travel.

If you’re talking about the upside down being stuck on Day 1 of the series, I’m not sure. I think the realm was always there. But the human stuff in the upside down came from either Eleven or Henry/One/Vecna. Maybe, not sure though. I’ve even thought that it somehow came from Will and that’s how they’re going to pull him back into the action. But it might be messy to go that far.

Will is definitely the best looking of the boys. He's kinda got a Brent Corrigan thing going on.

by Anonymousreply 423June 6, 2022 1:49 PM

In 3 days Noah has gone from "Will's sexuality is up to interpretation who knows" to. "Will is gay as hell and I want him to date Mike". I respect the growth.

by Anonymousreply 424June 6, 2022 2:28 PM

So he confirmed "Byler" happening. They were writing two little gay boys at the center of Netflix' biggest sci-fi horror show. Get with the times and get used to it!

by Anonymousreply 425June 6, 2022 2:48 PM

I don’t think they ever confirmed it’s happening and I don’t know how they would do that in 2 long ass episodes. But I’m here for it if they do lol

by Anonymousreply 426June 6, 2022 2:56 PM

I'm sorry but does anyone besides delusional teenaged fangirls want "Byler" to actually happen? Mike is pretty shitty lol. (And LBR here, though I think Finn Wolfhard looks fine now, during this current season he's in that incredibly awkward looking stage.)

They can just add a new character for Will in S5. Or not. Whatever. Just don't cater to the Tumblr wackos, please.

by Anonymousreply 427June 6, 2022 3:04 PM

There. Is. No. Time. Travel. Going. on.

The Upside Down was just abandoned 3 years ago or so.

by Anonymousreply 428June 6, 2022 3:06 PM

r427 What on earth are you talking about? It a main character plot relevant slowly built from the start gay relationship. Does anyone want that but teenaged fangirls/whackos? When they can just add an irrelevant gay boy in season 5 to date Will completely irrelevantly?

You are a moron.

by Anonymousreply 429June 6, 2022 3:09 PM

R428 With the price of real estate going up it’s amazing no one’s come in and spiffed it up and given it a real estate friendly name like Hawkins Heights or Hawkview.

by Anonymousreply 430June 6, 2022 3:12 PM

They're not going to add a new character in s5 just for Will. Christ they've only given Robin an unrequited crush on a dead cheerleader and she's had about 9 times his screen time this season.

by Anonymousreply 431June 6, 2022 3:14 PM

Robin's crush is alive. She is in band. She is just also a cute blonde like the cheerleader.

by Anonymousreply 432June 6, 2022 3:15 PM

R429 Mike has shown zero romantic interest in Will. Nothing. EVER. Unlike with Will who they've hinted at since the beginning. It would make absolutely no sense for them to go there. And they won't. The "Mileven" fangirls outnumber the "Byler" ones so the show is going to side with them.

by Anonymousreply 433June 6, 2022 3:15 PM

R431 Wut? Chrissy wasn't Robin's crush.

by Anonymousreply 434June 6, 2022 3:17 PM

r432 r434 In my defence I watched episode 1 at 8in the morning a week and a bit ago so I may accidently have blended band girl and cheerleader girl into one character. My bad.

by Anonymousreply 435June 6, 2022 3:19 PM

I would be shocked if they gave Will any kind of boyfriend - Mike or anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 436June 6, 2022 3:20 PM

Yea, there have been a lot of hints of Mike maybe having romantic feelings for Will like all over season 2, with proposing to go crazy together, which Will took as overtly romantic ... and I don't quite see how else one should take it. Their flirtatious farewell scene in season 3 definitely deserves a mention. It's built up all over the show and it's happening.

by Anonymousreply 437June 6, 2022 3:25 PM

Vecna will takes Will’s virginity with multiple tentacles invading Will’s sweet boy hole.

by Anonymousreply 438June 6, 2022 3:26 PM

Agree r433 Mike is straight and very much in love with Eleven (even if he can’t say/write it, I think that’s just him being an awkward teen). It wouldn’t make sense for Mike to start liking Will. I don’t think the Duffers will do that.

But Will’s sexuality will definitely be addressed in the next two episodes.

As for a boyfriend for Will? Maybe at the end of season 5. I’d like to see it.

by Anonymousreply 439June 6, 2022 3:27 PM

Will will lose his virginity to an older man in the older man’s car like every All American teenage gay boy in the late 80’s.

by Anonymousreply 440June 6, 2022 3:30 PM

r433 Really? I'd say they've made it pretty obvious over the seasons Mike treats Will with a different level of care and affection than he does Dustin or Lucas... When he doesn't have his head up his ass that is. Whether that's intended to be romantically coded or just because Will's got PTSD to the max though I don't know. But yeah the Mileven fandom being massive and the risk of teenage girls going full Jonestown is the only reason I can think they won't have Mike reciprocate in some form. Though they really do need to have Noah and Netflix promo team tone down their wording if that's the case. It'll fuck them over pretty bad when the "queerbating" accusations start.

by Anonymousreply 441June 6, 2022 3:30 PM

They won't let any kind of fans dictate the show, are you all serious?

by Anonymousreply 442June 6, 2022 3:38 PM

Are the Stranger kids explore the homosex?

by Anonymousreply 443June 6, 2022 3:40 PM

Will should not be paired off by the end, regardless. That's just not realistic. ESPECIALLY not with his straight best friend. That would be fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 444June 6, 2022 3:52 PM

Will is definitely attractive and can get all the upside down he wants. Just not with Mike.

by Anonymousreply 445June 6, 2022 3:56 PM

It's the 80s. No teenager is going to be out and proud (not without being beat up or killed).

Someone like Will isn't going to "find someone" until college. It would be grossly unrealistic, breaking suspension of disbelief, if he were to hook up with his best friend, or suddenly meet Mr Rigth while in HIGH SCHOOL.

by Anonymousreply 446June 6, 2022 3:59 PM

Boys secretly kissed in the 80s, Jesus Christ. Or did some "sexual experimentation". Not all but some got lucky. It's not unrealistic, it's just lucky.

by Anonymousreply 447June 6, 2022 4:13 PM

Mike is not straight.

by Anonymousreply 448June 6, 2022 4:18 PM

R446 Well tbf, they might have to time-jump to college for S5 given how long this show takes to make. The main "kids" already look WAY too old.

by Anonymousreply 449June 6, 2022 4:19 PM

r449 I don't know what you mean.

by Anonymousreply 450June 6, 2022 4:26 PM

[quote] They're not going to add a new character in s5 just for Will.

Technically, they will do that. We will meet the big bad in s5 who's looking for Will for quite a while, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 451June 6, 2022 5:15 PM

The clock and the floating broken pieces of the Creel house in the Upside Down World are obvious Labyrinth references since that movie came out around the same time season 4 is set.

by Anonymousreply 452June 6, 2022 5:19 PM

I liked the sweet love story of young Mike and El and I want them to get together. I do not want Mike to get together with Will.

Joseph Quinn as Eddie - he's very good, but I don't know wtf all this comparison is with Robert Downey, Jr. The character could have been played different ways by different actors - he has a nice approach. His wig looks fake. He looks 30. In the scenes with the kids he looks like their uncle, not another high school kid.

by Anonymousreply 453June 6, 2022 5:27 PM

There is no way Will and Mike will happen. I could see the show putting a spin on Tom Cruise's early movie Legend where the big bad (played by Tim Curry) is attracted to Will (in the movie played by Mia Sara) and his innocence or the big bad sending some kind of honeypot or bait to lure Will to him. But even that would be pretty far out and highly controversial.

by Anonymousreply 454June 6, 2022 5:36 PM

I'm pretty sure the teenagers being played by actors pushing 30 is a clear reference to what was the norm in casting back then.

by Anonymousreply 455June 6, 2022 5:48 PM

R455 Thank Gabrielle Carteris for your comment, but it isn’t as wide spread as you would have us believe.

by Anonymousreply 456June 6, 2022 5:51 PM

R455 It's not the norm in casting in the present? Have you watched 13 Reasons Why?.

No, I doubt it's a nod to anything. The younger kid roles were cast with kids, and many of them are still teenagers. or close enough. What about them?

by Anonymousreply 457June 6, 2022 7:27 PM

Why was Will taken to the upside down in the first place? Was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time and got taken while riding his bike home from Mike’s house? I don’t remember.

I should rewatch season 1. That was the best.

by Anonymousreply 458June 6, 2022 9:43 PM

I kind of want Will to be a powerful SECRET psychic, but we don’t have time for all that shit.

by Anonymousreply 459June 6, 2022 9:49 PM

Not just wrong place, wrong time. The demogorgon hunted him down. We never learned why. Maybe now.

by Anonymousreply 460June 6, 2022 10:00 PM

Thanks r460. That is interesting.

by Anonymousreply 461June 6, 2022 10:38 PM

The demogorgon has a thing for closeted gay boys

by Anonymousreply 462June 6, 2022 11:02 PM

Barb was a closeted gay boy ?

by Anonymousreply 463June 6, 2022 11:19 PM

R463 It has a thing for closeted people, not just boys. Barb was horny for Nancy but never got to tell her and now she's dead.

by Anonymousreply 464June 6, 2022 11:27 PM

Barb was gonna be Will's hag!

by Anonymousreply 465June 6, 2022 11:29 PM

Eleven needs to be Wills hag since Noah and Millie won't even have to act to make it convincing. Its honestly kind of crazy when you think of it that they've still only said about 3 sentences to each other on screen. I'd use the shit out of that chemistry if I was a director.

by Anonymousreply 466June 7, 2022 12:31 AM

R466 Aren't they bother and sister now?

by Anonymousreply 467June 7, 2022 1:50 AM

r467 Yeah but they still don't really interact. There was a silent scene of them walking down the hall, there was him comforting her after the bullying scene, and then him telling her off for lying to Mike. Though that is more than Eleven and Joyce or Eleven and Jonathan got.

by Anonymousreply 468June 7, 2022 2:19 AM

So did vecna kill barb or the demagorgon?

by Anonymousreply 469June 7, 2022 11:59 AM

I don't care who Maya Hawke's parents are (someone above said with parents like Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, how could she not be beautiful?). She's more cute than pretty, her looks are nothing extraordinary.

by Anonymousreply 470June 7, 2022 9:42 PM

R469, the demagorgan brutally killed Barb. But Vecna is now using Nancy’s trauma/shame about the event to pull her into his “web”.

by Anonymousreply 471June 7, 2022 10:09 PM

If found it a chore to get through. The episodes are too long and the scenes drag on. I get the feeling it's reached a point where Netflix are just letting them do what they want.

And Finn Wolfhard need to either join a gym or stop shorts. I'm absolutely sick of those pipe cleaner legs.

by Anonymousreply 484June 8, 2022 3:32 AM

[quote]Someone like Will isn't going to "find someone" until college. It would be grossly unrealistic, breaking suspension of disbelief, if he were to hook up with his best friend, or suddenly meet Mr Rigth while in HIGH SCHOOL.

He could meet another closeted gay kid in school. Many of us ended up finding each other, whether we were out or not. I agree that it would be odd if he hooked up with his best friend or met "Mr. Right" at this point in this location. (We are getting a time jump in the final season though.)

However, I disagree that he wouldn't tell at least one person if he knew they were okay with it and that person would probably be Eleven, Steve or Robin. He doesn't have much of a connection to the last two at the moment. Mike already seems to suspect but realistically, his reaction to it would be immature at this point.

[quote]But Vecna is now using Nancy’s trauma/shame about the event to pull her into his “web”.

I remember thinking, even back then, that Nancy was kind of an asshole for making her best friend wait, even longer than she promised, to make out with a dude. If Barb wasn't such a good friend she wouldn't be dead. I feel like Nancy tried to do her best to get, "justice for Barb" but I'm happy that she hasn't forgotten that she screwed up.

[quote]Maya Hawke looks like Becky from Roseanne.

Maya is the exact combination of both of her parents.

Him going to Robin would be pure fanservice given how he doesn't know she's a dyke, and I don't think him and Steve have ever even spoken. If he gets a coming out of his choice rather than it being ripped out of him by a monster it'll either be Jonathan or Joyce

R487 Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll kill him off

by Anonymousreply 488June 8, 2022 4:32 AM

17 min into the first episode and I'm already annoyed. All the older kids have completely aged out of their roles, especially Charlie Heaton and Natalia Dyer. Both look middle aged. Joe Keery ain't lookin so dewy, either.

And are you fucking telling me they cast an Asian tranny to play a teacher in 1986 bumfuck Hawkins??

by Anonymousreply 489June 8, 2022 5:51 AM

Do you really think there were somehow absolutely no Asian women living in towns in Indiana in 1986? There absolutely were.

by Anonymousreply 490June 8, 2022 5:54 AM

It's a literal tranny, dear.

by Anonymousreply 491June 8, 2022 5:55 AM

Will could "accidentally" find out she's a dyke, and then later confide in her. That would be pretty realistic.

by Anonymousreply 492June 8, 2022 6:02 AM

Why Counselor Kelley, you have an awfully big cock for a lesbian!

by Anonymousreply 493June 8, 2022 6:03 AM

I didn’t realize that Dustin’s Utah nerdy girlfriend is played by the Broadway actress who took over the role of Little Alison in Fun Home when Sidney Lucas who originated the role left.

by Anonymousreply 494June 8, 2022 6:56 AM

[quote]Him going to Robin would be pure fanservice given how he doesn't know she's a dyke, and I don't think him and Steve have ever even spoken.

Like I said, he has no connection to them right now. He could in the second part of this season or the last, especially given that there will be a time jump. They'd have to do a lot more to actually show his relationship with Joyce when he isn't a gateway for an evil upside entity for a coming out to his mother to mean something. While Jonathan is his brother, he still doesn't seem that close to his brother. That's the problem with this character: he's just now getting to be a "normal" kid and form normal relationships and yet he's still separate from everyone else.

The kid did his "hero" project on Alan Turing. He's ready to say something to someone. Perhaps more ready than someone where he is, at that time period in history, would be. (I would have never done anything to REMOTELY give people even the slightest idea I was gay at that age.)

The obvious choice at the moment is Eleven and she won't care because she won't get the gravity of it. However, she really doesn't have the time for that now.

by Anonymousreply 495June 8, 2022 7:04 AM

They could set the final season in December 1989, with the finale taking place on New Year's Eve.

by Anonymousreply 496June 8, 2022 1:02 PM

And you, R494, are the only person on this board who “realizes” that very obscure info.

by Anonymousreply 497June 8, 2022 2:13 PM

R497 I don’t know if you’re be facetious or not, but here she is singing Ring of Keys to the eldergays at the SAGE awards. She and Gaeten know each other from way back working on stage, but you have to admit getting a broadways musical star to sing Neverending Story in a throwaway couple of scenes is either an impressive level of commitment or one of the many ways they chose to burn through the billions of dollar a season budget.

by Anonymousreply 503June 8, 2022 9:38 PM

It's really terrible. I'm finding it hard to care. And it's a slog because it could have been shorter and more efficient without really losing anything. So many unnecessary scenes and characters. It really is bloated.

Nancy and Jonathan should have just been packed off to college, we'll call you if we need you. No one would miss them. And Caleb is a bore. And except for Eddie, these new characters are making me miss Billy- and Billy was useless.

by Anonymousreply 505June 9, 2022 1:22 AM

I went back to episode 1 of the first season. Joyce tells Hopper that Will’s father called him a fag. It’s been planned from day 1.

by Anonymousreply 506June 9, 2022 5:48 AM

A little bit of Maya Hawke goes a long way. Her standard direction seems to be- Pretend you drank 50 cups of coffee. And then double it.

by Anonymousreply 507June 9, 2022 6:05 AM

OMG the Hopper stuff is just painful.

And does anyone else think the guy playing Eddie decided to just imitate mid-80s Robert Downey, Jr? I swear every time he comes on I feel like I'm watching Weird Science, Back to School, Chances Are, or The Pickup Artist.

by Anonymousreply 508June 9, 2022 8:04 AM

I think this is the best season since season 1... not sure what you're all on about.

But then I didn't binge it, really. I watched on episode a night.

by Anonymousreply 509June 9, 2022 1:26 PM

For a str8 actor, Noah is good at playing gay.

by Anonymousreply 510June 9, 2022 2:04 PM

R508 Eddie’s first episode made me think of Treat Williams as Berger in “Hair”; especially when Berger jumps on the table to sing “I Got Life.” Same manic energy and basic look.

by Anonymousreply 511June 9, 2022 2:18 PM

Eddie is like Steve to me in that my first expectation is that he’s going to be a jerk but then he turns out to be a decent and stand up guy. I’m a sucker for that.

by Anonymousreply 512June 9, 2022 4:05 PM

Eddie is more like Dacre Montgomery's Billy. Same cocky big dick energy.

by Anonymousreply 513June 9, 2022 4:42 PM

No, he did not remind me of Robert Downey, Jr., at all.

by Anonymousreply 514June 9, 2022 5:07 PM

Eddie has burnout energy, i get no BDE/Billy energy from him.

by Anonymousreply 515June 9, 2022 5:11 PM

I fucking hated Billy until the end. He got a slight redemptive arc but too little too late. And the wig they made Dacre wear certainly didn’t help!

by Anonymousreply 516June 9, 2022 5:16 PM

Eddie's introduction scene (where he jumps on the table) is so BDE. Also, when he's the D&D game master (even when Erica wins, he has this "you did well" superiority). He's rather sweet around the cheerleader he has a crush on.

by Anonymousreply 517June 9, 2022 5:21 PM

I hate Eddie’s voice.

by Anonymousreply 518June 9, 2022 5:48 PM

The actor playing Eddie also played Leornard Bast in the UK miniseries remake of Howard's End.

by Anonymousreply 519June 9, 2022 6:08 PM

Eddie has 80’s stoner ADHD energy. Not hot.

by Anonymousreply 520June 9, 2022 6:18 PM

Like Eleven and Hopper “died” in earlier seasons? I don’t believe they are really offing anyone. None of those actors are in particularly high demand for anything else.

[quote]"A main character dies," Schnapp said

Bye, Steve.

by Anonymousreply 530June 11, 2022 7:19 AM

Steve is the best thing on the show. It would be dumb to kill him off.

by Anonymousreply 531June 11, 2022 2:38 PM

Hey there's one season left if there was ever a time to start killing off beloved mains for shock value its now. But personally I think its more likely its Eddie. He's had more screen time than Will, Mike and Jonathan combined this season so you can probably count him as a main for those purposes.

by Anonymousreply 532June 11, 2022 4:56 PM

My guess is one of the adults: Murray, Brenner, Owens, or the Russian guard.

The only teen I could see them killing off is Eddie who maybe sacrifices himself by saving the day, making him the town hero after being crucified by the town earlier for being a rumored Satanist

by Anonymousreply 533June 11, 2022 5:18 PM

They'll probably kill off Jonathan, they've really pushed him into the background and it's clear Heaton is no longer pulling his weight on the series.

by Anonymousreply 534June 11, 2022 5:21 PM

R534, did he ever?

by Anonymousreply 535June 11, 2022 5:26 PM

r535 He was pretty important in season 1.

by Anonymousreply 536June 11, 2022 5:43 PM

R535 He had storylines. Now he's just in group scenes with a few lines, and playing a wasted kid (and Heaton looks ill).

by Anonymousreply 537June 11, 2022 5:53 PM

It would suck if it were Joyce but you know her character would die for her kids. The romance could be between her and Hopper. Did they ever kiss? I can’t remember

by Anonymousreply 538June 11, 2022 6:07 PM

How could Hopper even live with all the abuse he's taken and without medical treatment? The guy should have no internal organs left.

by Anonymousreply 539June 11, 2022 6:14 PM

I like R533's theory. You can't kill the four young boys and two young girls who've been with the show from the start. And you can't kill Joyce and Hopper, either. The fans are too invested in them.

If someone is going to be killed off, it makes most sense for it to be Eleven. Her powers have allowed evil to break into this world, and I can see her being in another face-off with VECNA, where they both die, and she has to use so much energy to kill him, that it kills her, too. But she's willing to make that sacrifice to save her friends.

by Anonymousreply 540June 11, 2022 6:15 PM

RE540 And then they just bring her back the next season. Is anyone else sick of shows that kill off a character they make you care about, then just show some trick that ended up saving their life and it's all good? Deaths on these kinds of shows have no meaning. It's so manipulative and it's a cheat. And I love this show but I'm sorry. I thought maybe they were above that.

by Anonymousreply 541June 11, 2022 6:18 PM

*sorry - typo - R540

by Anonymousreply 542June 11, 2022 6:19 PM

R541 :

When I was growing up in Bakersfield, my favourite thing in the whole world was to go to the movies on Saturday afternoons for the Chapter Plays. my favourite was Rocketman, and once it was a no breaks chapter. The bad guy stuck him in a car on a mountain road and knocked him out and welded the door shut and tore out the brakes and started him to his death, and he woke up and tried to steer and tried to get out but the car went off a cliff before he could escape! And it crashed and burned and I was so upset and excited, and the next week, you better believe I was first in line. And they always start with the end of the last week. And there was Rocketman, trying to get out, and here comes the cliff, and just before the car went off the cliff, he jumped free! And all the kids cheered! But I didn't cheer. I stood right up and started shouting. This isn't what happened last week! Have you all got amnesia? They just cheated us! This isn't fair! HE DID'NT GET OUT OF THE COCK - A - DOODIE CAR!

by Anonymousreply 543June 11, 2022 6:27 PM

The Russian guard is a goner no matter what - why else would they give him some poignant back story about wanting to make his son proud and think he is honorable? He's going to die getting Hopper and the gang out. Neither he nor Murray are "major characters."

Eddie is the new Steve with the kids - the characters have said as much. Also, it's clear they're suddenly revisiting Steve/Nancy. And Steve was bitten by all the Upside Down bats and is now stuck in the Upside Down with Nancy in danger. Nancy and Jonathan will break up, but Steve is the walking dead right now. He'll sacrifice himself saving Nancy and die of his wounds. Joe Keery has looked utterly depressed in every single interview he's done about this show, and only about this show.

by Anonymousreply 544June 11, 2022 8:17 PM

[quote] The only teen I could see them killing off is Eddie who maybe sacrifices himself by saving the day, making him the town hero after being crucified by the town earlier for being a rumored Satanist

Plus, it would be a total copy of an earlier storyline on the show, which is what the Duffer Bros. excel at.

by Anonymousreply 545June 11, 2022 8:41 PM

I have to say that Nancy did a great job this season. I forgot she can actually act. They shoved her into the b/g the past couple seasons once they paired her with that absolute charisma vacuum Jonathan, but she was very good and very compelling this season away from him. Yes, her anorexia is hard to look at, but otherwise, she really stepped up, which is a good thing since the women on this show this season have largely been underwhelming. Joyce stood around bug-eyed, Sadie Sink moped, and Maya Hawke needed a shot of thorazine.

by Anonymousreply 546June 11, 2022 8:44 PM

In all fairness, we never saw Hopper’s body, so by the conventions of the genre(s) it was clear that he probably was not dead. Then they pretty much told us in the coda. Billy stayed dead. And poor Barb.

Still geeking out over the fight scene after the older teenagers entered the lake portal with the winged creatures.

IMO the Duffer Bros excel at showing a team working well together when it counts.

by Anonymousreply 549June 11, 2022 9:14 PM

I'm rewatching this because I'd forgotten so much. I'm on season 2 again.

by Anonymousreply 550June 11, 2022 9:34 PM

We need a poll....which Stranger Things characters need to die.

I'll go first.

Jonathan.

by Anonymousreply 551June 11, 2022 10:29 PM

I knew the Demogorgon was named after a Dungeons and Dragons character, but I didn’t The Mind Slayer and Vecna were also from D&D.

by Anonymousreply 552June 11, 2022 10:56 PM

How much weight did David Harbour lose? I like fat Hopper.

Noah’s two truths and a lie- I think the romance one is real and it will be between Joyce and Hopper. Since he’s playing Joyce’s son, that would probably be worth mentioning/memorable to Noah.

If there was a main character death it’d probably be Steve. But I’d rather it be Murray.

by Anonymousreply 553June 12, 2022 12:38 AM

r552

Yeah, I guess I didn't pay attention when it came up, cause I kept wondering throughout the season "Where tf did that name come from?"

by Anonymousreply 554June 12, 2022 12:38 AM

I don’t think they explained where it came from, but I looked it up.

by Anonymousreply 555June 12, 2022 1:25 AM

It was the name of bad guy in Eddie’s D&D campaign in the first episode. Eddie revealed his little D&D figurine and called it Vecna.

They didn’t say it was a D&D thing specifically. I had assumed Eddie just made that name up. But really:

“The name Vecna was an anagram of Vance, the surname of Jack Vance, the fantasy author whose works inspired the magic system used in Dungeons & Dragons.”

by Anonymousreply 556June 12, 2022 2:15 AM

Watching this season, I realized that Jonathan is NOTHING without Nancy next to him. Nancy has always kind of the main sleuth/investigator of the show.

by Anonymousreply 557June 12, 2022 2:15 AM

I just realised who Will should come out to. This man has spent the last 3 seasons solving the Byers families relationship issues. He got Jonathan and Nancy to bang in his heavily surveillance filled house, and hooked up Joyce and Hopper despite the odds. Who knows what wonders he could achieve with Will.

R543 Thanks, that was a great story and went so well with what I wrote about this series.

by Anonymousreply 559June 12, 2022 3:22 AM

Why would they want to kill off Steve (unless it turned out to be one of their fake deaths)? One of the most popular characters on the show?

Wait, what season are we talking about?

by Anonymousreply 560June 12, 2022 3:24 AM

I dare say Steve is THE most popular character on the show. I'm sure others have their favorites, but I would guess that the majority of viewers would name Steve as their favorite character.

And Jonathan as their least favorite.

by Anonymousreply 561June 12, 2022 3:27 AM

R561, next to Finn Wolfhard, Joe Keery has probably had the most successful film career with Free Guy.

by Anonymousreply 562June 12, 2022 3:29 AM

r560 There's 2 episodes left of this season, and one final season yet to be filmed. I'd say if they want to kill Steve off for shock factor at the end of this season they can do it at this point. Steve's popular but given how big this show is now its bot like his death will stop people streaming the final 9 or whatever episodes. That said going by this r93 No established old character is actually dying. Eddie is almost certainly dead and maybe Mikes awful parents will be sacrificed as well.

by Anonymousreply 563June 12, 2022 3:34 AM

Netflix social media accounts LOVE to crow about how much character deaths made you cry and how devastated this or that plot point made its audience. If you find this weird and off putting you're probably not the Gen Z fangirl demographic their algoritihm targets. None of them watch for Steve but they would respond to him dramatically dying for love. The show already spelled out that he's redundant and he's got potentially fatal injuries and that he's self-sacrificial to a fault. He's toast.

by Anonymousreply 564June 12, 2022 3:37 AM

r562 Free Guy was directed by Shawn Levy so he pretty much got that job because of ST. Which is probably how the arcade nerd got in there as well.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 565June 12, 2022 3:42 AM

R563 Well they can do it but I would refuse to believe it was legit, at this point. I can't see the point unless Joe wanted to leave the series. On social media a lot of people say he's their favorite, or the relationship between him and Gaten is one of the reasons they watch the show.

by Anonymousreply 566June 12, 2022 3:50 AM

[quote]If you find this weird and off putting you're probably not the Gen Z fangirl demographic their algoritihm targets. None of them watch for Steve

Of course fangirls watch for Steve.

by Anonymousreply 567June 12, 2022 3:54 AM

Much like Darren Criss !

by Anonymousreply 570June 12, 2022 5:29 AM

He’s straight? He’s so good at playing gay I assumed they made the character gay because the actor couldn’t play straight.

by Anonymousreply 571June 12, 2022 5:41 AM

Does anyone have any insider info on him being straight? Because every video I see of him he seems glass closeted to hell, and even then Millie seems to know.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 572June 12, 2022 6:03 AM

Of course Millie knows. They've been best friends since they were children. In fact, Millie seems to have no adult supervision or support system in her life at all - Noah seems to be it. They've said they know everything about each other repeatedly, and, well, there's a reason they're not dating.

by Anonymousreply 573June 12, 2022 6:25 AM

R572, Noah appears to have found himself a hot blonde stud.

by Anonymousreply 574June 12, 2022 7:52 AM

Oh, that’s Bon Jovi’s son that Noah is trying to hump!

by Anonymousreply 575June 12, 2022 7:54 AM

[quote] and, well, there's a reason they're not dating.

What reason is that, Dorothy?

by Anonymousreply 576June 12, 2022 8:12 AM

I think Steve’s hero arc in season 2 and the cast/crew’s love for Joe Keery is what did Jonathan’s character in. Which is fine because Steve is a way more compelling character, but Jonathan was the original World’s Greatest Big Brother and now he’s just…there

Honestly, I hope Nancy chooses none of them and goes to college. Season 1 and 2 heavily focuses on Nancy feeling stuck— she could go with Steve, which was comfortable and what was expected of her… he represented her normal suburban life which she clearly hated. Jonathan was the exciting, different choice and represented freedom. But she’s more competent than both of them. I just find Steve/Nancy to be boring. Steve doesn’t need a girl, he needs to get his shit together! Nancy and Robin will be in college and he’ll still be working at the video store waiting for his Dad to hand over the company

by Anonymousreply 577June 12, 2022 9:21 AM

R574 That is Millie’s hot blonde stud that Noah is riding.

by Anonymousreply 578June 12, 2022 9:45 AM

R573 With Whitney and Bobby as parents of course MBB had no adult supervision in her life.

by Anonymousreply 579June 12, 2022 11:47 AM

I think the writing follows acting ability. They want the original characters to stick around, but the best actors get the most plot.

by Anonymousreply 580June 12, 2022 3:45 PM

I’m all for killing Jonathan but not sure I can deal with a big Winona grieving scene. But if Season 5 starts with a time jump, maybe they can just imply she grieved between seasons and is over it.

by Anonymousreply 581June 12, 2022 5:53 PM

You know, I don’t think Stranger Things still needs Winona at this point.

by Anonymousreply 582June 12, 2022 6:01 PM

Winona has been useless for at least 2 seasons.

by Anonymousreply 583June 12, 2022 6:19 PM

Steve/Joe is from a town near where I live. He has that Eastern Massachusetts boy sarcastic vibe that is so familiar around here but may be less familiar to the rest of the world.

by Anonymousreply 584June 12, 2022 6:51 PM

I hope Vecna eats Mike’s dad. He was being such a dick this season.

by Anonymousreply 585June 12, 2022 7:36 PM

R583 This show wouldn’t be the dame without Winona. it’s mike and Nancy’s parents that are useless.

by Anonymousreply 586June 12, 2022 8:43 PM

Will Noah come out when Will comes out?

by Anonymousreply 587June 12, 2022 8:48 PM

Noah will come out on his 18th birthday

by Anonymousreply 588June 12, 2022 9:01 PM

I hate how they wasted Joyce as Murray’s sidekick this season (at least so far).

by Anonymousreply 589June 12, 2022 9:07 PM

r588 When is that?

by Anonymousreply 590June 13, 2022 2:22 AM

Noah turns 18 in October but he was deflowered a long time ago.

by Anonymousreply 591June 13, 2022 2:30 AM

Do you know by whom, R591?

by Anonymousreply 592June 13, 2022 7:45 AM

^By the gardener, Rose!

by Anonymousreply 593June 14, 2022 8:55 AM

I just started the season and Finn Wolfhard's transformation surprised me. Can someone explain his popularity with young? The ridiculous haircut, the pale skin, the huge nose, the skinny legs.

He is one ugly motherfucker.

He was cute as a kid, but he's really fugly right now and I'm skeptical if he'll grow into this nose and face.

The rest of the "kids" are alright. Sadie Sink is a great actress and was a great addition to the cast. Natalia Dyer is still way too skinny and Millie, Caleb and Maya Hawke are very dull and boring this season. Did not care about any of them so far. Charlie looks like a junkie and his friend is extremely annoying. Gaten is fun and Noah Schnapp is still the best looking of the bunch even with the weird haircuts.

by Anonymousreply 594June 14, 2022 10:03 AM

^ Can someone explain his popularity with young ladies?

by Anonymousreply 595June 14, 2022 10:05 AM
