John Gavin

My number one celebrity crush.

He was a lawyer by degree, model, actor, businessman, and ambassador.

He was a man's man.

His film roles include A Time to Love and a Time to Die, Imitation of Life, Psycho, Spartacus, Midnight Lace, Romanoff and Juliet, Tammy Tell Me True, Back Street, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Madwoman of Chaillot, Jennifer, and History of the World Part I.

Loved him in Spartacus

by Anonymousreply 2May 23, 2022 4:12 PM

Gavin was Mexican -American who used a stage name to sidestep enduring discrimination and prejudice against Mexicans.

by Anonymousreply 3May 23, 2022 4:22 PM

He was a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 4May 23, 2022 4:24 PM

Republican not a magat.

by Anonymousreply 5May 23, 2022 4:27 PM

That neckerchief really says, "man's man"!

by Anonymousreply 6May 23, 2022 4:29 PM

R4 If Mr. Gavin wanted me to be a Republican, I would be lol

by Anonymousreply 7May 23, 2022 4:29 PM

Republicans created Magats.

by Anonymousreply 8May 23, 2022 4:29 PM

[quote] He was a man's man.

He was a very performer

by Anonymousreply 9May 23, 2022 4:29 PM

[quote] Gavin was Mexican -American who used a stage name to sidestep enduring discrimination and prejudice against Mexicans.

Because John Anthony Golenor sounds so Mexican.

by Anonymousreply 10May 23, 2022 4:30 PM

Looked like he gave a good fuck

by Anonymousreply 11May 23, 2022 4:32 PM

Ask Constance Towers , she was married to him !

by Anonymousreply 12May 23, 2022 4:36 PM

Gavin also was quiet and stayed out of the press.

by Anonymousreply 13May 23, 2022 4:40 PM

I always wonder why he didn’t get to play in “A Touch of Evil” instead of charlton Heston.

by Anonymousreply 14May 23, 2022 4:40 PM

Maybe he was straight?

by Anonymousreply 15May 23, 2022 4:53 PM

I would love to come home to that!

And 6’4”.

by Anonymousreply 18May 23, 2022 5:15 PM

Unfortunately, his acting was memorably wooden.

by Anonymousreply 19May 23, 2022 5:17 PM

R19 I bet you'd fuck him though

by Anonymousreply 20May 23, 2022 5:19 PM

Oh yes. He had wood pinga.

by Anonymousreply 21May 23, 2022 5:27 PM

He's hot AF

by Anonymousreply 22May 23, 2022 8:39 PM

He was the Henry Cavill of his day.

by Anonymousreply 23May 23, 2022 8:51 PM

He was gay.

by Anonymousreply 24May 23, 2022 8:59 PM

R24 You wish!

by Anonymousreply 25May 23, 2022 9:10 PM

I agree, he's superlative. I'm surprised though more people didn't make a big deal about his looks in his heyday & that he wasn't a bigger star or idol. I mean, face it, he's perfection.

by Anonymousreply 26May 23, 2022 9:12 PM

his moniker was "the poor man's rock hudson" ( as joan collins was the poor man's elizabeth taylor and jayne mansfield was the poor man's marilyn monroe)... but I always thought he was waaaaaaaay handsomer and sexier than rock hudson....

by Anonymousreply 27May 23, 2022 9:23 PM

^ I agree.

by Anonymousreply 28May 23, 2022 9:47 PM

He was HOTTTTTT

by Anonymousreply 29May 24, 2022 9:10 PM

He was hot.

But he was about a dull as a box of hair - not much personality and not very bright.

by Anonymousreply 30May 25, 2022 12:07 AM

I can project wisdom and maturity and depth and slyness and a sense of humor onto his stillness.

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2022 12:18 AM

I try not to think of his politics when I fap to him in Imitation Of Life.

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2022 12:25 AM

Many many years ago (1971!) I was an apprentice at a summer stock theater in Ogunquit, Maine on the Straw Hat Circuit and John Gavin came through in a production of The Fantasticks in which he played El Gallo ("Try to Remember"). I remember nothing of his performance or if he could sing the score, but he was quite handsome and tall. He actually attended a party my roommates and I gave for the cast and crew and he was very gracious. His hair looked like he dyed it with black shoe polish, but perhaps with his Mexican heritage, the color was real..

by Anonymousreply 33May 25, 2022 12:35 AM

Sorry, just remembered, it was 1970! Even longer ago........

by Anonymousreply 34May 25, 2022 2:15 AM

[quote]He was a man's man

Lordy, OP. Gavin was straight, but he was hardly a "man's man." He was a flighty, model-actor and a little light in the loafers in image. That doesn't mean he was perceived as gay, just "pretty."

by Anonymousreply 35May 25, 2022 2:20 AM

He was Tall, goodlooking, hairy chest, uncut peen, he was beautiful. Loved him shirtless in Psycho when I was about 10 while watching the late night movie, he put ideas into my young and impressionable gay head, so many fantasies, all I knew was I wanted him, whatever that meant, wow... :-)

by Anonymousreply 36May 25, 2022 2:30 AM

^ Uncut peen? Who told you that? Constance Towers?

by Anonymousreply 37May 25, 2022 2:14 PM

R19- Just like Matt Damon and his GAY boyfriend Ben Affleck

by Anonymousreply 38May 25, 2022 2:27 PM

He looks good here

He was perfect in "Millie" as Trevor Graydon was a wooden character and gorgeous so John was the perfect casting

by Anonymousreply 40May 25, 2022 2:48 PM

Yeah, I can tell, R39. I see Gavin had a massive uncut cock!

by Anonymousreply 41May 25, 2022 2:55 PM

John Gavin is listed on male celebrities who are circumcised and uncircumcised, JG is on the Uncut list... Google it.

by Anonymousreply 42May 25, 2022 5:10 PM

They should have shown his murder in Spartacus

by Anonymousreply 43May 25, 2022 5:13 PM

He is perfect

by Anonymousreply 44July 7, 2023 12:54 AM

What a shame we never saw that COCK.

by Anonymousreply 45July 7, 2023 12:57 AM

Joh Gavin's foreskin was perfectly intact. He was a civilized man, not a mutilated barbarian.

by Anonymousreply 46July 7, 2023 1:04 AM

John Gavin was born Juan Vincent Apablasa.

He was mesmerizing when he appeared shirtless in Psycho. Like r36, I saw this as a gayling and I think my eyes nearly popped out of my head.

Here he is speaking quite good Spanish after he’s been named ambassador to Mexico by Reagan. He’s parroting free market Republican talking points, but he’s still sexy.

But he’s still a very, very limited actor.

I met him at an Argentine Film Festival at the Academy. He spoke Spanish flawlessly. I think he wore a toupee by then, this being around 1986, but he was still stunningly handsome.

by Anonymousreply 50July 7, 2023 1:13 AM

Saw him in Seesaw on Broadway. I was sitting third row center and lemme tell you he was gorgeous in person. And he gave a pretty decent performance and sang well.

by Anonymousreply 51July 7, 2023 1:17 AM

[quote]He was a man's man.

Where did you get that idea, OP?

by Anonymousreply 52July 7, 2023 1:19 AM

[quote] a mutilated barbarian

R46, are you saying all circumcised males are each, individual, barbarians?

by Anonymousreply 53July 7, 2023 1:52 AM

Politically, Iwould agree that intact cocks are, socially and ethically the way to go for today's parents.

But if that means a lot more uncut cocks out there, no thanks.

So many uncut cocks look disgusting to me.

I love a shitake mushroom cap!

by Anonymousreply 54July 7, 2023 1:55 AM

R46 has the ugliest dick on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 55July 7, 2023 1:56 AM

One of Gavin’s best performances is in “A Time to Love and a Time to Die” (1958), based on an anti-war novel by Erich Maria Remarque, who also wrote “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and who also appears in the film. Gavin’s an earnest German soldier on the Russian front, who gets 3 weeks leave to return home, only to be confronted by the realities of Nazi brutality.

A startling change from his domestic output, the film was directed by Douglas Sirk, himself an expatriate from Nazi Germany, who enveloped the story with gritty reality. A huge flop at the time, it deserves a closer look, if you can find it. Rarely shown on TV, it has been available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

by Anonymousreply 56July 7, 2023 2:05 AM

He was truly exquisite.

by Anonymousreply 57July 7, 2023 2:07 AM

No, R54 does.

by Anonymousreply 58July 7, 2023 2:29 AM

His acting was so wooden in Psycho that Alfred Hitchcock referred to him as “The Stiff.”

by Anonymousreply 59July 7, 2023 3:06 AM

I would have liked to see this hot motherfucker stiff.

by Anonymousreply 60July 7, 2023 3:08 AM

Loni Anderson recounted their fling in her memoir. Her mom was quite dazzled that her young daughter, already a single mom, scored movie star cock. This was quite some time before the Burt Reynolds era.

by Anonymousreply 61July 7, 2023 3:13 AM

R61 John Gavin was too classy for Loni Anderson

by Anonymousreply 62July 7, 2023 4:53 AM

He was hot and married to Helena Cassadine which makes him A-OK in my book.

by Anonymousreply 63July 7, 2023 4:56 AM

Connie was nothing but a bald whore.

It made me think of less of him but she spoke very highly of him even though he seemed interested in nothing but a hookup.

by Anonymousreply 66July 7, 2023 12:20 PM

My mum loved him x

by Anonymousreply 67July 7, 2023 12:34 PM

He and Doris Day had a fling while shooting "Midnight Lace" in 1960. They remained friends and more than a decade later, Gavin was a guest star on Day's CBS sitcom.

I as a gayling got to know Constance first in her Rodgers and Hammerstein days. Imagine when years later I saw her in her Sam Fuller movies.

by Anonymousreply 69July 7, 2023 12:57 PM

If Janet Leigh hadn't being dickmatised by him she wouldn't have ended up in that swamp

by Anonymousreply 70July 7, 2023 1:53 PM

R50, John Gavin's real name was Juan Vincent Apablasa.

by Anonymousreply 71July 7, 2023 3:09 PM

John Gavin's bedroom scene in PSCYCHO created a particular fetish for me as a child the first time I watched him - Hairy chested bruiser in dark dress pants with a leather belt. Nothing sexier than that image.

by Anonymousreply 72July 7, 2023 3:17 PM

Was also gorgeous as Trevor Graydon in "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and perfect playing a gorgeous stiff shirt for Millie

by Anonymousreply 73July 7, 2023 3:34 PM

He was a stunner.

by Anonymousreply 74July 7, 2023 4:57 PM

Sparticus. Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 75July 7, 2023 5:02 PM

There was an Aids benefit showing of Millie at the Astor Plaza when Victor Victoria was on Broadway. All the films stars were invited but of course everyone wanted to see Julie.

Well she cancelled and the only one to show up was of course Carol. The rest of the cast sent notes of regret and the warmest and most charming and funny was John Gavin's. I was pretty surprised.

by Anonymousreply 76July 7, 2023 7:45 PM

He's perfect

by Anonymousreply 77July 8, 2023 5:37 PM

To R63, Did Helena Cassadine ever find "The Ice Princess"?
