John Gavin
My number one celebrity crush.
He was a lawyer by degree, model, actor, businessman, and ambassador.
He was a man's man.
His film roles include A Time to Love and a Time to Die, Imitation of Life, Psycho, Spartacus, Midnight Lace, Romanoff and Juliet, Tammy Tell Me True, Back Street, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Madwoman of Chaillot, Jennifer, and History of the World Part I.

Gavin was Mexican -American who used a stage name to sidestep enduring discrimination and prejudice against Mexicans.

Because John Anthony Golenor sounds so Mexican.

I agree, he's superlative. I'm surprised though more people didn't make a big deal about his looks in his heyday & that he wasn't a bigger star or idol. I mean, face it, he's perfection.

his moniker was "the poor man's rock hudson" ( as joan collins was the poor man's elizabeth taylor and jayne mansfield was the poor man's marilyn monroe)... but I always thought he was waaaaaaaay handsomer and sexier than rock hudson....

But he was about a dull as a box of hair - not much personality and not very bright.

Many many years ago (1971!) I was an apprentice at a summer stock theater in Ogunquit, Maine on the Straw Hat Circuit and John Gavin came through in a production of The Fantasticks in which he played El Gallo ("Try to Remember"). I remember nothing of his performance or if he could sing the score, but he was quite handsome and tall. He actually attended a party my roommates and I gave for the cast and crew and he was very gracious. His hair looked like he dyed it with black shoe polish, but perhaps with his Mexican heritage, the color was real..

[quote]He was a man's man
Lordy, OP. Gavin was straight, but he was hardly a "man's man." He was a flighty, model-actor and a little light in the loafers in image. That doesn't mean he was perceived as gay, just "pretty."

He was Tall, goodlooking, hairy chest, uncut peen, he was beautiful. Loved him shirtless in Psycho when I was about 10 while watching the late night movie, he put ideas into my young and impressionable gay head, so many fantasies, all I knew was I wanted him, whatever that meant, wow... :-)

He was mesmerizing when he appeared shirtless in Psycho. Like r36, I saw this as a gayling and I think my eyes nearly popped out of my head.
Here he is speaking quite good Spanish after he’s been named ambassador to Mexico by Reagan. He’s parroting free market Republican talking points, but he’s still sexy.
But he’s still a very, very limited actor.

I met him at an Argentine Film Festival at the Academy. He spoke Spanish flawlessly. I think he wore a toupee by then, this being around 1986, but he was still stunningly handsome.

Politically, Iwould agree that intact cocks are, socially and ethically the way to go for today's parents.
But if that means a lot more uncut cocks out there, no thanks.
So many uncut cocks look disgusting to me.

One of Gavin’s best performances is in “A Time to Love and a Time to Die” (1958), based on an anti-war novel by Erich Maria Remarque, who also wrote “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and who also appears in the film. Gavin’s an earnest German soldier on the Russian front, who gets 3 weeks leave to return home, only to be confronted by the realities of Nazi brutality.
A startling change from his domestic output, the film was directed by Douglas Sirk, himself an expatriate from Nazi Germany, who enveloped the story with gritty reality. A huge flop at the time, it deserves a closer look, if you can find it. Rarely shown on TV, it has been available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Loni Anderson recounted their fling in her memoir. Her mom was quite dazzled that her young daughter, already a single mom, scored movie star cock. This was quite some time before the Burt Reynolds era.

He and Doris Day had a fling while shooting "Midnight Lace" in 1960. They remained friends and more than a decade later, Gavin was a guest star on Day's CBS sitcom.

John Gavin's bedroom scene in PSCYCHO created a particular fetish for me as a child the first time I watched him - Hairy chested bruiser in dark dress pants with a leather belt. Nothing sexier than that image.

There was an Aids benefit showing of Millie at the Astor Plaza when Victor Victoria was on Broadway. All the films stars were invited but of course everyone wanted to see Julie.
Well she cancelled and the only one to show up was of course Carol. The rest of the cast sent notes of regret and the warmest and most charming and funny was John Gavin's. I was pretty surprised.
