Please post a Youtube clip of what you feel is one of the most perfect live performances you've ever heard. It can be anything from Pop to Opera and everything in between. I know we've all got our favorites. I'm really interested in some that might have been overlooked. This one definitely hasn't been overlooked. It's been covered many times, originally for a 1955 film called "Unchained," but 25-year-old Bobby Hatfield's performance of Unchained Melody on the Andy Williams Show in 1965 blows me away every time. Especially the high C he hits at the end and the smile of satisfaction when he nails it.
The video quality does not do it justice but Melissa Etheridge at the Concert for New York brought down the house with Born to Run. Hillary was boo'd off the stage that same evening.

I also liked the Tina Turner Proud Mary posted at R14. It's not the classic one with Ike ... but probably just as good. On top of that, she's got 2 really good-looking women / singers / dancers up on stage with her, including a woman with long, blonde hair. Lots of women performers won't put any blonde women on stage alongside themselves. If you notice, Beyoncé is always the only one with blonde hair on stage.
I'm guessing Tina is just so damn confident and sure that all eyes are on her, she can put whoever on stage and still be the focus.

Every knows about this, but their one and only performance of this and their last performance, period. Kind of hurts to watch it just because, damn, the Beatles were clearly a great band live--love the little interactions and reactions--George allowing himself to smile finally, Paul given a little dance and John putting his raggedy-ass heart right on the line.

Backstory:
In 2007, the agency that Park Hyo Shin was signed to didn't give him his income and furthermore they were planned his tour concert beforehand, and Hyo Shin only found this out through the internet. The concert was to be held a month later which meant that he only had a month left for him to prepare. To make up for the lack of time, Hyo Shin put in extra efforts in his rehearsals and overused his throat. At the end of his rehearsal, Hyo Shin could not take the intensity and collapsed and was taken to the hospital. He was told by a doctor that he got a brain disease called Dysphonia which is damage to the voice and makes it extremely difficult for the sufferer to speak normally. Even up till now, Park Hyo Shin is still suffering from this disease (yes, that's so unfortunate of him) . Because of this incident, his concert in Busan had to be cancelled. But the drama doesn't stop here. Hyo Shin was scheduled an encore concert (basically an additional mini concert) as his main concert had already been cancelled.
The agency continued to mistreat even after the concert incident: not giving him income for subsequent concerts and didn't give him income for singing OSTs. Park Hyo Shin eventually got fed up over all of this and filed a lawsuit against his agency for misusing him. Despite all the doings the agency had dealt to him, they won the lawsuit (by accusing him of fraud and evasion of debt collectors) and Hyo Shin was fined 1,500,000,000 won ( that's approximately $1,500,000 USD)
After being through all this, he declared bankruptcy and had to work really hard to pay off his debts but despite all he did, his debt was far from being repaid. What made it worse was that he was enlisted into the army shortly afterwards. During his army service period, he dealt with all these negative emotions and his repeated applications for financial revitalization (basically a move to get him out of debt) was rejected.
Here is his first live appearance after a long absence' The pianist is the composer of the soundtrack to " Parasite."

From niche to mainstream star in 3 minutes. The Ricky Martin performance was indeed a knockout, but I can't think of another performance that really altered someone's public status so dramatically as this one at the American Music Awards. Although she had a big fan base, for America generally, who didn't know of her, this moment is what brought her in the limelight. Who WAS this dykey girl who looked like Elvis? They soon knew.

Bruce Springsteen, Saturday, July 26, 1975. Kutztown State College, PA. We sat on the floor in the school gym. The band set up on the floor, facing us. No stage. He sweat on me. I haven't washed my face since. No, but seriously, this is my awesomest live performance.

Folk group Chad Mitchell Trio performing at Brooklyn College on May 12, 1961.
They were one of the dozens of generic folk groups trying to make it in the Village. They'd been kicking around for over a year when they were discovered by Harry Belafonte who invited them to sing backup at his Carnegie Hall concert. He taught them how to present themselves and how to sell a song by really making an effort to connect with the audience.
A few months later, they introduced their new satirical song "Lizzie. Borden" during a concert at Brooklyn College, which was recorded and released the following year as their album "Mighty Day on Campus."
In the recording, they do sort of a bait-and-switch, opening with a puzzling, spoken word recitation from their "poet laureate Joe Frazier." When they start to play, you can hear the audience slowly catching on, nervously laughing at first, then waking up to the satire and realizing that it's okay to laugh at murder, family feuds, the US justice system and the shitty, uptight Puritanical society which they were raised in and that America still continues to wallow in today.
By the end of the song, the audience had gotten it completely and they start cheering like crazy. It's like a dam broke and all those years of 50s oppression came flooding out in one great rush.

This 4 Chords Song from Axis of Awesome, an Australian musical comedy group. They performed it in different forms before and since but this is the one that blows all of them away. Fleetwood Mac 1982. A famous ex-couple who don't really talk but sing out their grievances on stage. Lindsay and Stevie must had had an off/on relationship because he excoriates her onstage while staring knives at her. Rage and cocaine.
I can't wait for the mini-series of Fleetwood Mac if it ever comes out. I never paid attention to them before but I was curious why their album Rumours is still on Billboard 200 after 35 years.. Harry Styles and a new Prime series about a fictitious couple in a band (Daisy Jones and The Six) piqued my interest.

I dont know how to post video/ links but one performance which has stuck with me since I saw it over 2 decades ago is Bowie's performance of " "Heroes" at Live Aid, 1985. I first saw this performance in early 200s, during a very special time in my life. It was a time of discovery , now whenever I feel nostalgic and yearn for these simpler times, I find the video on YouTube, watch it and weep.
A close second is Darlene Love's numerous performances of " Christmas" on the David Letterman show
Last but not least Bonnie Rait with the Rolling Stones performing " Shine a Light" on stage in Vancouver. Unsure if video is still on YouTube

Fleetwood Mac 1997. This vid was posted earlier but there's a story behind it. This was Stevie's song about her breakup with Lindsay. She fought to have the song on the Rumours album, it meant a lot to her and gave total royalties to her mother. It was denied. They released it 10 years later to little fanfare. 20 years later, they have their reunion and she sings it for the first time on stage and to her former lover.

R74 here.
I have been in love with Steve Winwood since I was 7 or 8 years old. And for such a low-key guy he's AMAZING live.
Here he is performing one of my Top 10 all time favorite songs in any genre "Can't Find My Way Home."
Plus Eric Clapton (and it's always been the case Stevie is the superior musician BY FAR, and really shows it here), the incredible Derek Trucks, and Doyle Bramhall.
This live version many decades after the original studio version, is every bit as stunning as the Blind Faith OCR. Gives me chills every time I play it.

On November 4, 1980, Bruce had stayed up late, watching the national election results that made Ronald Reagan the President of the United States. The next night, onstage at Arizona State University in Tempe, he made one of his first outright political statements.
“I don’t know what you guys think about what happened last night, but I think it’s pretty frightening.... you guys are young, there’s gonna be a lot of people depending on you coming up, so this is for you....”
At which point he launched into what may be the angriest and most impassioned version of "Badlands" ever.

From 40 years ago, U2 performing "I Will Follow" Live from Red Rocks Amphitheater, Colorado.
Rolling Stone named the concert one of the Top 50 defining moments in rock history.
The four band members were 21 and 22 years of age here. Even though, it was June, a turn in the weather made it very cold and with rain and sleet. The 10,000 seat amphitheater wasn't even half full.
The band was in top form as was Bono's butt in those snug jeans.

They were tired and angry because the first-time director didn’t get a good capture of the first performance and their annoyance comes out in this version.
