Actors Who Will Never Will Competitive Oscars
Jim Carrey's alleged retirement got me to thinking about this, as he came close to scoring one. Here's the rest of my list thus far:
-Glenn of the Booty Shaking Kerfuffle
-Bradley Cooper
-Salma Hayek
-Alec Baldwin
-Laura Linney
-Amy Adams
-Mark Ruffalo
-Annette Bening
-Both Gyllenhaal siblings

I still think Amy Adams, Annette Bening, and even maybe Laura Linney in a supporting role could win.

Pia Zadora and Bruce Willis.

NO!
That’s NOT enough!
I want reasons WHY G won’t win.
Is she BLACKLISTED? What about the others?

Just look at the above. There are not a lot of talented actors now.

Bradley Cooper, after enabling Will Smith

I think Bradley could win.

I hope Glenn gets nominated again to lose.

I also think Amy Adams will eventually win. Annette too.

Amy Adams will probably go down the route of playing a disabled person to get an Oscar. Here are some Oscar bait role suggestions.
-Blind school teacher living in Germany during the Holocaust.
-Deaf lesbian pediatrician running an inner city Chicago clinic.
-War veteran amputee collegiate track coach in a feel good sports movie.

I want Glenn to win. Kirsten, too.

Can't they just give a lifetime achievement Oscar to Glenn. That way, she won't risk another humiliation being nominated and losing again. How much ignominy can one person bear?

Cruz has a competitive Oscar

I'm sure Glenn will win, or die trying.

Ben Affleck makes my nether region all tingly so I’m just gonna type his name here because I don’t care if he loses. There is something about the way that man takes a public drubbing that is just HOT.

OP here...I wrote the subject line of the thread right before sleeping. Of course it should've read: "Actors Who Will Never Win Competetive Oscars."

Hey, OP. I think you were still asleep when you tried to correct it.

Gary Cole. But he has been doing an exclusively tv career in recent years with only 1 or 2 indie films. At least Hollywood respects him as venerable.

Sadly, Willem Dafoe. He's a real fucking talent.

It's very comforting to know that Chris Pratt will NEVER win an Oscar

Michael Fassbender. I hope I'm wrong.

I do wish actors could win for purely comedic performances. For instance Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were brilliant in Dumb and Dumber, in their way.

I was going to suggest Johnny Depp too, R41. He should have got an Oscar for his impressive performance in Black Mass. I also think Ed Wood, Minamata and The Libertine were all Oscarworthy performances. However, he fell out with the Hollywood crowd decades ago. Add his psychotic ex-wife lying about him, because he refused to yield to her financial blackmail, into the equation means the likelihood of him winning an Oscar is nonexistent.

I'm still not sure why the actress who played Anita got hers, was it virtue signaling from the academy? I didn't find her performance remarkable. The movie was mediocre.

Amy Adams’ career seems totally derailed.
I hope Bradley Cooper, Timothee and Zendaya for enabling Will Smith.
Tom Holland.
Glenn Close
Robert Pattinson

Maybe
Oscar Isaac
Otherwise, not really feeling anyone at the moment for a win
I know Bradley is hoping he will win for playing homosexual Leonard Bernstein

It wasn’t a barn burner of a movie but J. Depp shut down all accusations that he can only play himself when he did Donnie Brasco. But I don’t think he’ll ever win if he hasn’t already. (I don’t remember and don’t care enough to look it up.)
He chose really messy people to emulate. Brando could act, yes, and Thompson could write, but neither knew how to live without being doped to the gills on drugs or deadly quantities of food. Keith Richards handled his drugs but Johnny’s dreams of rock stardom obviously died on the vine and the guy STILL hasn’t figured out whose fault his messes are. He’s got a laundry list of people he blames but his own name doesn’t seem to be on it. Damn sad. He was so pretty for so long.

Depp was not a bad actor at all (especially compared to likes we have today) but he coasted far too long on his looks and spent more time trying to emulate his cultural idols than hone a craft. There were a number of far more talented actors in his age range (<10 years older or younger) that deserved the heights he had for about two decades, but they weren't as pretty.

r47 You inspired me to check Amy's IMDB page and her career really went down the shitter after Sharp Objects. Currently, she has Nightbitch in preproduction. She plays a stay-at-home mom begins to worry that she may be turning into a dog. Maybe this will be her big comeback?
