Why was Betty White honored at the 2022 Academy Awards?

Did she ever appear in a movie?

by Anonymousreply 30March 29, 2022 4:33 AM

She was just so loved.

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2022 3:47 AM

Lake Placid

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2022 3:48 AM

The Proposal

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2022 3:48 AM

R3 I remember she had Oscar buzz for THE PROPOSAL, which was a huge hit and she got good notices. After she failed to get a nomination, people then petitioned for her to host SNL and that's how that came about.

by Anonymousreply 4March 28, 2022 3:52 AM

She was in 5 movies and did the voice in about 10 movies

by Anonymousreply 5March 28, 2022 3:53 AM

She was funny as Steve Martin’s nosy neighbor in “Bringing Down The House”.

by Anonymousreply 6March 28, 2022 3:54 AM

If Melissa McCarthy got an Oscar nod for that gross performance in Bridesmaids Betty should have got one for The Proposal.

by Anonymousreply 7March 28, 2022 3:55 AM

R6 which was another huge hit.

by Anonymousreply 8March 28, 2022 3:55 AM

That movie set in remote Alaska.

You are right, they should have spent the time honoring the most beloved human being in the history of civilization, Princess Diana as this year is the 25th anniversary of the horrific day we lost her.

by Anonymousreply 10March 28, 2022 4:23 AM

She had a very minor role as the only female senator in "Advise and Consent".

by Anonymousreply 11March 28, 2022 4:33 AM

She was more aware tonight than Liza.

"Why was Betty White honored at the 2022 Academy Awards?"

They had to do something more interesting than show two rich Black guys beating each other up

by Anonymousreply 13March 28, 2022 5:26 AM

Her role in Schindlers List was subtle, which many missed.

"Instead of Googling this easily verifiable information, I think I'll start a thread on Datalounge! I have to make sure my doubt of this woman's achievements is clear to everyone!"

Because she couldn't make the ceremony, Rose!

R18, are you also R11?

by Anonymousreply 19March 28, 2022 1:44 PM

I loved Betty White, but that tribute at the Oscars wasn't necessary.

by Anonymousreply 20March 28, 2022 2:02 PM

R20 Ok, thanks for letting us know

by Anonymousreply 21March 28, 2022 2:08 PM

Sorry, no R19, for some reason I have R11 blocked and didn't see that post. My apologies to DL

by Anonymousreply 22March 28, 2022 2:10 PM

She did dirty dance in Lawrence of Arabia

by Anonymousreply 23March 28, 2022 2:17 PM

She was Sophie's Choice!

by Anonymousreply 24March 28, 2022 2:19 PM

Little known fact: She had a minor role in Jaws. She played one of the barrels. She’s very versatile!

by Anonymousreply 25March 28, 2022 2:48 PM

Because even Bringing Down the House and The Proposal are better than that piece of shit Mame. Heck even Lake Placid is better.

(I love Bringing Down the House, btw)

Bob Saget, Norm Macdonald, Ed Asner left out of Oscars 'In Memoriam' segment

by Anonymousreply 27March 29, 2022 3:03 AM

wow, can't believe they left out Ed Asner...the old lefty had a long career.

by Anonymousreply 28March 29, 2022 3:11 AM

She was a child actress with Blanche Hudson in "Broadway Sweethearts" (1937).

by Anonymousreply 29March 29, 2022 3:58 AM

It's pretty much tradition for people to bitch about who was left out of the "In Memoriam" section at the Oscars.

I remember the bitching that went on after Farah Fawcett was left out and I recall Candy Spelling and a couple of people went on Larry King to whine more.
