Which brown guy will win?

by Anonymousreply 2March 20, 2022 12:07 AM

Thank you, OP!

by Anonymousreply 3March 20, 2022 12:15 AM

I hate and find it sad whenever I see this big tournaments on TV knowing that the best seats are filled with "connections" and/or just wealthy who dont' give a damn about tennis the other 50 weeks of the year, while the TRUE 365 days of the year 24/7 tennis fan can only afford to sit in the rafters! It's like this I suppose in every professional sport, it just REEKS more in tennis because tennis is and always will be seen as a wealthy man's game unlike other pro sports except maybe golf...

by Anonymousreply 4March 20, 2022 12:17 AM

Garbine.

by Anonymousreply 5March 20, 2022 12:20 AM

I was surprised a few years ago when a rich cousin treated us to a week at Indian Wells with incredibly expensive tickets and the seats were not good.

by Anonymousreply 6March 20, 2022 12:23 AM

Fritz is still yet to equal his mom's highest ranking on the tour.

by Anonymousreply 7March 20, 2022 12:29 AM

"it's becoming hazardous to the players and the fans' ? SAY WHAT? OH PLEASE! shut up motor mouth courier!...

boo hoo, professional athletes having to play in a strong wind! unless i see huge objects falling on the court and lighting, get over it!..

by Anonymousreply 8March 20, 2022 12:35 AM

[quote] i see huge objects falling on the court

R9.. did trump throw it??...

by Anonymousreply 10March 20, 2022 12:38 AM

Courier has always been a big wuss. Davenport out-alphas him easily and she's actually straight!

by Anonymousreply 11March 20, 2022 12:38 AM

pussies and wusses!

years ago, 1980 to be exact evert vs goolagong at eastbourne, they had gusts of 40 mph throughout their match and they played the entire match and didn't have all this bitching and moaning!

by Anonymousreply 12March 20, 2022 12:40 AM

Did Seles lock her elederly billionaire husband in a retirement home somewhere? She disappeared for a decade. Now she's making all sorts of appearances sans the husband.

by Anonymousreply 13March 20, 2022 12:41 AM

Omg! Metal pole from net on court! I repeat, metal pole from net on court.

by Anonymousreply 14March 20, 2022 12:42 AM

what's up with the female players marrying billionaires?

by Anonymousreply 15March 20, 2022 12:43 AM

At this point, whoever holds will win the set…

by Anonymousreply 16March 20, 2022 12:48 AM

Tommy Hass is married with kids.

He doesn't like to wear underwear.

by Anonymousreply 17March 20, 2022 12:51 AM

damn, how many chances dos alcaraz want?

Interesting, how NOW Nadal isn't double faulting, when he was double faulting every match in the tournament? Now in this horrible weather he isn't double faulting non stop??

by Anonymousreply 18March 20, 2022 12:52 AM

The wind is doing a number on Rafa's hair.

old man with such a bad foot he could have to default is going to outslug a 18 year old kid? really?....

by Anonymousreply 23March 20, 2022 1:14 AM

Does courier ever shut up! geez, someone stick a big ole dick in his mouth already!...

by Anonymousreply 24March 20, 2022 1:16 AM

I’ve turned the volume down so I don’t have to hear Courier's nitwit comments.

by Anonymousreply 25March 20, 2022 1:18 AM

R23 if his foot was as bad as it sometimes is made out to be he wouldnt be winning as much as he is. I know hes a fighter but hes human. Nadal definitely has niggling injuries but he definitely uses them as excuses.

by Anonymousreply 26March 20, 2022 1:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 29March 20, 2022 1:33 AM

R29... at least chrissie doesn't non stop yap, yap, yap....

How I wish i could somehow get British commentators on the tennis channel! old school ones i'm talking, who knew less is more and when to talk and when to let the play speak for itself...

could be worse, we could have prakash amritraj... the network's nepotism connections hire....

by Anonymousreply 30March 20, 2022 1:37 AM

Little brown boy fell.

by Anonymousreply 31March 20, 2022 1:44 AM

Has carlos never heard of a topspin lob now that it's less windy...

nadal is literally on top of the net, he could hit those volleys with his handle of the racket....

by Anonymousreply 32March 20, 2022 1:50 AM

Rafa wins.

by Anonymousreply 33March 20, 2022 1:56 AM

Not surprised cause these courts are as clay like as hard courts can get.

by Anonymousreply 34March 20, 2022 1:59 AM

And with this win Nadal knocks Zverev out of #3 and any right to talk about Zverev's place in the new Big 3.

by Anonymousreply 35March 20, 2022 2:04 AM

and carlos mentally gives up the last 2 games.... still has much to learn he does, but what a talent... i would bet for him the next time he plays nadal on a faster court..

by Anonymousreply 36March 20, 2022 2:08 AM

carlos loses to his dad...

on a serious note, i think carlos backhand went downhill from the beginning of the match, besides the wind, he was smoking the backhand early on....

as we know that nadal is a freak of nature and all natural (sarcasm) i do wonder who has more endurance 18 year old carlos or soon to be 36 rafa?..

rafa better be worried the next time he plays carlos especially on a fast surface as carlos is improving by leaps and bounds, last year the first time they played carlos won only 3 games on clay, here less than a year later, he goes 3 sets and had many chances in the 3rd set as well..

by Anonymousreply 37March 20, 2022 2:15 AM

Isner/Sock deplorable team or Gonzalez/Roger-Vaseline team?

by Anonymousreply 38March 20, 2022 2:42 AM

so last year at this time we were complaining about Djokovic's domination of the tour

This year out of nowhere Nadal has filled the void created by Djokovic's antivaxx-induced absence

does that mean 2023 will be a rebirth of Federer?

the young guys just aren't bringing it ever

I don't fault Alcaraz who is only 18. The other guys at the AO and IW this year should be ashamed for letting Nadal off the hook repeatedly

by Anonymousreply 39March 20, 2022 3:00 AM

Rafa doing GOAT things.

by Anonymousreply 40March 20, 2022 3:32 AM

Monica really was that bitch when she first arrived on the tour. I remember Navratilova lost to (teenage) Seles at Rome, 6-0 6-1 or something and said she felt like she'd been hit by a truck. The first woman to really viciously attack a player's serve from the first shot, the delicious sharp-angled winners, the famous match with Capriati at the US Open that changed the way women hit the ball.

To assume she wouldn't have done more had she not been stabbed is frankly ludicrous. Steffi was winning 3-4 slams per year in 88 and 89. She only won three IN TOTAL over the next 3 years from 90-92, and then in 1993 was back to winning three slams per year. Gee, I wonder what happened in 1993 to change things back around for her......... of course Monica was going to continue snatching her wig. It's literally the reason Gunther stabbed her. I think people also forget that she was only 19 and just getting started. I'm not saying she would have won 35 grand slams but it's revisionist history to assume she wasn't almost guaranteed for more success.

Her life after tennis has been a bit strange. She seems to have some kind of orthorexia or eating issues still, and who knows what happened with the billionaire.

by Anonymousreply 41March 20, 2022 4:13 AM

I like Nadal but I'm not an uber fanboy like some. Hope his fan boys are enjoying his domination. In typical Nadal fashion this probably wont last too long.

by Anonymousreply 42March 20, 2022 4:16 AM

I love Seles and she looks great. Those two matches with Graf and Capriati are at the top of women's tennis. She was just a victim of sad fate.

by Anonymousreply 43March 20, 2022 4:40 AM

Great post r41 ! Spot on.

by Anonymousreply 44March 20, 2022 5:36 AM

R41 it's the women's game today. Bash the first ball to the last. Both Seles and Capriati were fantastic ball strikers. Hit the ball flat like a pancake. Lindsay Davenport had a similar stroke.

by Anonymousreply 45March 20, 2022 5:41 AM

I've locked my billionaire husband in the VIP wing of Shady Pines and I've thrown the key to the alligators. Good luck!

by Anonymousreply 46March 20, 2022 6:46 AM

I love Daddy Fritz and his horniness.

by Anonymousreply 47March 20, 2022 7:32 AM

Gay GOAT Team or Daddy Fritz Team?

by Anonymousreply 48March 20, 2022 10:42 AM

GOAT Team......

by Anonymousreply 49March 20, 2022 12:19 PM

Team Goat 🇪🇸

I do like Taylor a lot and I’m glad he made it to the final. He really stepped up his game against Rublev.

by Anonymousreply 50March 20, 2022 2:29 PM

Fritz team. I want new blood.

by Anonymousreply 51March 20, 2022 3:12 PM

¿I beat white boy today no? ¡Vamos!

by Anonymousreply 52March 20, 2022 3:55 PM

SO nearly 36 old rafa with the oh so day by day painful foot who had had 3 very tough 3 set matches in a the span of a week, including one just last night is going to be able to run like a deer, outslug and outlast taylor fritz 11 almost 12 years his junior who has not had any long 3 set matches this week either! what a amazing SUPER BEING rafa nadal must be! (sarcasm!)...

by Anonymousreply 53March 20, 2022 3:58 PM

R53 it is unbelievable but he is a freak of nature

by Anonymousreply 54March 20, 2022 4:00 PM

R54.. i tend to believe he's a freak of gamesmanship and E.P.O. among other factors...

what is rafa going to be 50 winning french open number #28 and outlasting, outslugging guys young enough to be his sons in 3 out of 5 sets in 7 matches on red clay and no one will bat a eye and wonder privately or outloud?

by Anonymousreply 55March 20, 2022 4:02 PM

Nadal knows these young guys don't have the resolve that he, Djokovic and Federer had/have. With Federer injured and 40 years old, it's unlikely he'll be coming back to his Slam winning form. And Djokovic with his stupid anti-vaccination stance will miss much of the year. The #1 ranking is wide open for Nadal to snatch, but more importantly he can increase his Slam lead over Djokovic. Had Djokovic been in Australia this year, I don't think Nadal would have won.

Most of these young guys just don't have the mentality to take on someone like Nadal or Djokovic on a consistent basis. Sure Medvedev won the US Open, but he wasn't facing a top form Djokovic, who just couldn't muster his best tennis when he needed it most. I think the pressure of going for the calendar year Grand Slam got to him.

I do think it's going to be the young guys just under Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev who will push Nadal and Djokovic out of the winner's circle. Alcaraz is only going to get better. His shot selection yesterday wasn't that great at times, and he didn't serve as well as he needed to, and still he pushed Nadal. At 18, he'll get more experience and learn. I think Sinner is a possible winner at some point. He's learning the same things as Alcaraz. Auger-Alliassime is another I could see getting there. It's those guys from 18-21 who I think will start winning Slams and kick the Old Guard out.

by Anonymousreply 56March 20, 2022 5:18 PM

R53, it's totally you cool you aren't a Rafa fan. But you come in here and write the same thing, over and over.

Why don't you read the various articles on his foot injury? It might help you answer the incessant rhetorical questions you posit (oddly enough in a very similar manner to Rafa's own OCD rituals).

I'll break it down quickly: The foot won't really get better. It's a congenital condition. It's called Mueller-Weiss Syndrome. It's never going to "heal" in the way other injuries heal. He has good days and bad days. When it flares up in a serious way? He can't walk, can't play, can't practice. When it's not flaring up? He can play without pain or with little pain.

Doctors have confirmed this.

You are free to still think Rafa is cheating or gaming or whatever. But here's another alternative to ponder.

by Anonymousreply 57March 20, 2022 5:27 PM

R56, great analysis. I actually don't think Med, Zverev and TsiTsi will do much damage to Nadal and Nole. They'll win a few slams for sure. But I think, baring injury, so will Novak and Rafa. It's going to be Sinner, Alcaraz, and FAA that finally put the nail in the Big 3 (er 2 these days) coffin.

Even Rafa, who is winning, isn't really dominating. He's showing his age big time. He's just smarter on the big points and won't give up no matter what. Novak is the exact same. That's an intangible that Med and Co just don't possess. Which is shocking, frankly.

by Anonymousreply 58March 20, 2022 5:31 PM

[quote]Isner/Sock deplorable team or Gonzalez/Roger-Vaseline team?

Jizzner and Sock won

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 59March 20, 2022 5:37 PM

Thanks, R58. What do you think of Sebastien Korda's chances of getting in the Slam winner's circle? I think he could, but when he was up 5-2 in the third and let Nadal off the hook I just shook my head. To me, that was a Tsitsipas-at-the-French moment that makes me worry about his mental ability. He's got the game, though.

by Anonymousreply 60March 20, 2022 5:44 PM

Svee-i-tek team or Sakkari team?

by Anonymousreply 61March 20, 2022 5:47 PM

R57... okay, then so rafa has this condition, that comes and goes... Does he have any inclination when he'll get it and when he won't? I find it hard to believe that someone with this condition can be a world class athlete, AND at his age and wear and tear on his body all these years, AND it this condition doesn't come up let's see 3 weeks in a row in Australia (the tournament before the aussie and the aussie he both won), and now this 1 week of very tough long 3 set matches indian wells tournament, and then the back to back to back tournaments on clay he'll play soon...

SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT "condition/issue" to have! when he starts suddenly defaulting in tournaments with no warning, they'll i'll buy it...

by Anonymousreply 62March 20, 2022 6:11 PM

It is odd but maybe since he has lived with it for so long he manages it super well or just plays with a lot of pain? Several factors make you think it cant be that bad.

by Anonymousreply 63March 20, 2022 6:15 PM

R63... i thought this was a new condition of nadal's? with the way he plays, his age, and so much wear and tear, i find it hard to believe he or any world class athlete could play their sport so well with "alot of pain"...

it's like when he was playing wawrinka when stan beat him at the aussie... supposedly rafa hurt his back really bad for stretches in the match, I have no doubt that rafa DID hurt his back during that match, judging by how he served and moved for a time, but here's the thing? if ANYONE hurts their back as much as rafa allegedly did, they couldn't even MOVE AT ALL, much less be playing even 50% world class ability in a sport!..

don't tell me rafa is some super human being who could play world class tennis with such a injury that everyone else, regular joe or pro athlete themselves couldn't move it would be so painful! No, rafa's "injuries" are never truly that bad, it just means he's not 100%, so there is hyperbole in his injuries, if he's 95% healthy he has a MAJOR Injury mindset..

by Anonymousreply 64March 20, 2022 6:21 PM

[quote]t's called Mueller-Weiss Syndrome. It's never going to "heal" in the way other injuries heal. He has good days and bad days. When it flares up in a serious way? He can't walk, can't play, can't practice. When it's not flaring up? He can play without pain or with little pain.

[quote]Doctors have confirmed this.

Thank you for that information r57.

Unfortunately people like r62 aren't going to change their mind or listen to any collaborative scientific evidence. They don't like Rafa, so to each their own I guess.

But you are right, r62 is a victim all the conspiracy theories that are trotted out time and again; he's basically the FOX News of the tennis threads, lol

by Anonymousreply 65March 20, 2022 6:24 PM

[quote]Horny daddy Fritz team. I want new blood.

Even if that blood mostly works towards turgescence?

by Anonymousreply 66March 20, 2022 7:14 PM

Let's see how Sakkari's nerves are in her biggest final

by Anonymousreply 67March 20, 2022 8:08 PM

R65.. i could say the same thing about people like you, that you WILLINGLY ignore what could be seen as glaring questions about Rafa... As I stated before, when he starts pulling out of tournaments suddenly with no warning, only then will I think his condition is truly that bad and unpredictable.....

by Anonymousreply 68March 20, 2022 8:15 PM

it'd be hilarious if Nadal turned into a hardcourt specialist and after dominating the 1st quarter, flopped in the clay season

by Anonymousreply 69March 20, 2022 8:17 PM

wow it's still windy today. Not as crazy as during the middle of the Nadal-Alcaraz match but it's still going to affect play

by Anonymousreply 70March 20, 2022 8:44 PM

R69 that would be funny, but doubtful. Hes so good on clay, particularly the french open.

by Anonymousreply 71March 20, 2022 8:45 PM

Serving in the wind fucking sucks. Some are better at it than others but even pros understandably get so frustrated.

by Anonymousreply 72March 20, 2022 8:46 PM

According to a Spanish newspaper, Fritz is injured (ankle) and might not play.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 73March 20, 2022 9:04 PM

Apparently, He injured his right ankle during his warm-up session.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 74March 20, 2022 9:05 PM

R64, he's always had the foot condition.

by Anonymousreply 75March 20, 2022 9:05 PM

I hate playing in the wind. The only positive thing I can say about it is, it makes you really concentrate on your footwork and position. But godDAMN it's frustrating.

by Anonymousreply 76March 20, 2022 9:07 PM

R68 he pulled out of Wimby, DC, Canada, Cincinnati, the Open, Shanghai, Paris and the WTC last year because of his foot.

It healed and stayed healthy enough to play from early January until now.

Have you had sufficient?

(If you were making this claim on Rafa's knee? You might have some merit to your paranoia. But not his foot.)

by Anonymousreply 77March 20, 2022 9:08 PM

He fucked it up in the last game in his match yesterday against Rublev.

by Anonymousreply 78March 20, 2022 9:12 PM

Fritz injured his ankle during the end of his match against Rublev as was discussed

it is a bad sign that it hasn't gotten better today though

totally called it in the last thread that it's very Nadal-like to get lucky with an injured opponent after getting all these gifted chokes throughout the tournament

ATP continues to be a disaster in terms of the young guys

by Anonymousreply 79March 20, 2022 9:13 PM

Iga serving for the title.

by Anonymousreply 80March 20, 2022 9:26 PM

Sakkari is the new Bouchard. 1 small title and loses in all the finals, plus most semifinals since then

by Anonymousreply 81March 20, 2022 9:27 PM

The way Iga is playing she might be the favorite for the French. Maybe even more than Barty. Still need to see how they play throughout the clay season.

by Anonymousreply 82March 20, 2022 9:28 PM

Sakkari has been terrible in this second set.

by Anonymousreply 83March 20, 2022 9:30 PM

[quote] Svee-i-tek

by Anonymousreply 84March 20, 2022 9:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 85March 20, 2022 9:32 PM

Not sure why Swiatek isn't a bigger deal. She's backed up her (teenage) French Open win with several titles. She's only just 20. Very impressive.

by Anonymousreply 86March 20, 2022 9:36 PM

Well she's ugly, for starters, R86. I'm sorry, but that's the truth.

by Anonymousreply 87March 20, 2022 9:38 PM

Shes not ugly. Very plain though. Not one of the beauties that rack up endorsements.

by Anonymousreply 88March 20, 2022 9:41 PM

Nadel is not like a normal person, he has superior genes. A few of his uncles used to be soccer players etc. He is gifted in the physical fitness department.

by Anonymousreply 89March 20, 2022 9:42 PM

remember Nadal's ultimate gifted title in Madrid several years ago? Nishikori was kicking his ass but got injured in the second set and had to retire

by Anonymousreply 90March 20, 2022 9:46 PM

The trophy is cool.

by Anonymousreply 91March 20, 2022 9:47 PM

Nadal really has to be one of the luckiest players. So many situations like the ones previously mentioned just swing his way. I know you create your own "luck" but come on.

by Anonymousreply 92March 20, 2022 9:47 PM

Annacone saying after treatment following the first practice, Fritz' ankle is feeling better and he was able to practice a second time for 25 minutes

by Anonymousreply 93March 20, 2022 10:09 PM

I saw him tweak it against Rublev.

Just please God don't let this one be another mental case!

by Anonymousreply 94March 20, 2022 10:12 PM

[quote] he was able to practice a second time for 25 minutes

Almost the length of a match.

by Anonymousreply 95March 20, 2022 10:12 PM

Nadal team or Fritz team?

by Anonymousreply 96March 20, 2022 10:18 PM

Why does Taylor wear what can only be described as 'smocks' on court? He'd look so much better with something a bit more form fitting.

by Anonymousreply 97March 20, 2022 10:20 PM

Taylor should always be motivated by the fact that he must make child support payments. Was he married to the baby mama too? If so then he's likely paying spousal support since their breakup too

by Anonymousreply 98March 20, 2022 10:23 PM

[quote] Why does Taylor wear what can only be described as 'smocks' on court? He'd look so much better with something a bit more form fitting.

One would think that caftan-wearing DLers would be more supportive of this.

by Anonymousreply 99March 20, 2022 10:25 PM

[quote]that you WILLINGLY ignore what could be seen as glaring questions about Rafa...

Willingly ignore?

No, but make decisions based on evidence. You, and all of Rafa's detractors, have only presented speculation.

by Anonymousreply 100March 20, 2022 10:27 PM

surprising start. Will Fritz choke a double break lead a la Korda though?

by Anonymousreply 101March 20, 2022 10:28 PM

Daddy Fritz Team

by Anonymousreply 102March 20, 2022 10:29 PM

R101 probably. Many players do against Nadal. Especially lately

by Anonymousreply 103March 20, 2022 10:29 PM

Nadal is looking just gassed after his match against Carlos yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 104March 20, 2022 10:42 PM

[quote] Nadal is looking just gassed after his match against Carlos yesterday.

I think it's his foot condition.

by Anonymousreply 105March 20, 2022 10:44 PM

If Daddy F pulls this out, I'm on the next flight to PS to blow him.

by Anonymousreply 106March 20, 2022 10:44 PM

yes, Fritz did marry the baby mama.

by Anonymousreply 107March 20, 2022 10:46 PM

first attempt failed!

let's see if he can do it next game

by Anonymousreply 108March 20, 2022 10:48 PM

Evidence please r105,

I think Novax is a transexual!

I think all of Roger's slams resulted from match fixing!

I have no need for proof, I'm on the r105 train!

by Anonymousreply 109March 20, 2022 10:49 PM

Daddy takes the first!

by Anonymousreply 110March 20, 2022 10:52 PM

first set in the books

6-3 Fritz

did anyone here ever watch when his mother played? What was her game like? That was before my time

by Anonymousreply 111March 20, 2022 10:53 PM

clearly Nadal is injured which is unfortunate especially in a final.

That said I don't feel bad for him given his history of lucky incidents on court

by Anonymousreply 112March 20, 2022 10:56 PM

Rafa's still not right after the med time-out.

by Anonymousreply 113March 20, 2022 10:58 PM

the comeback begins! broke for 2-1

by Anonymousreply 114March 20, 2022 11:13 PM

NEWSFLASH: nadal is now 100% cure from his back/shoulder/foot issues, amazingly they just went away after a few minutes of treatment! uh huh!

ULTIMATE bullshitter! when he can't move literally and has to default, then i'll believe he has REAL injuries....

it's one thing to not be at one's best 100% physically, but the way everyone include the ass kissing commentators go on and on and on you would think nadal was 10% and nearly paralyzed!....

i'm sorry if you are really injured you could not play world class tennis! no matter what!.....

by Anonymousreply 115March 20, 2022 11:20 PM

Embarrassing that a crowd in the united states and california, are so much for nadal! you think if they were playing in Spain, ANYONE would be cheering for fritz??

I understand wanting to see a good match but that's it, nothing more....

by Anonymousreply 116March 20, 2022 11:22 PM

Fritz is from CA too lol

by Anonymousreply 117March 20, 2022 11:23 PM

r115, you sound like an incel. Are you involuntarily celebate? Is that what makes you so unhinged?

by Anonymousreply 118March 20, 2022 11:31 PM

Yeah you would truly think this match was in Spain based on the crowd reactions.

by Anonymousreply 119March 20, 2022 11:35 PM

R188... sorry if the truth hurts because what I say is true.. deflection and insults are never a argument, much less a stance!...

by Anonymousreply 120March 20, 2022 11:36 PM

Rafa is one of the greatest. They’d cheer like this for Roger too…

by Anonymousreply 121March 20, 2022 11:38 PM

But the lack of much support for this kid from California in California is odd.

by Anonymousreply 122March 20, 2022 11:40 PM

Fritz one game away from a win.

by Anonymousreply 123March 20, 2022 11:51 PM

R122. it's shameful, yeah, clap on a great point, clap because you want to see a good match, but for the entire stadium to cheer for nadal is just wrong! Like I said if they were playing in Spain? a TOTAL opposite reaction would be going on!...

meanwhile, jim courier earlier " rafa isn't playing like the man we all know and LOVE" ... what a fop courier is...

by Anonymousreply 124March 20, 2022 11:51 PM

If I lose to white boy it because I hurt so mush. If I win it because I GOAT.

by Anonymousreply 125March 20, 2022 11:54 PM

That audience should be ashamed of themselves... course many are plastered and are not even the true 365 days of the year 24/7 tennis fans...

by Anonymousreply 126March 21, 2022 12:08 AM

Still waiting for you to trot out the evidence r120

by Anonymousreply 127March 21, 2022 12:11 AM

Daddy Fritz wins.

by Anonymousreply 128March 21, 2022 12:20 AM

Ahahaha. Bye, Mr. Twitchy.

by Anonymousreply 129March 21, 2022 12:20 AM

Why he called Daddy Fritz?

by Anonymousreply 130March 21, 2022 12:21 AM

Me hurt so mush.

by Anonymousreply 131March 21, 2022 12:21 AM

Now Nadal can go pick his butt as much as he wants in his long break before the clay season!

by Anonymousreply 132March 21, 2022 12:22 AM

R130 he is actually a dad

by Anonymousreply 133March 21, 2022 12:22 AM

wow. congrats!

he has hooded eyelids, looks sleepy

by Anonymousreply 134March 21, 2022 12:23 AM

Holy shit! I can't believe Fritz won! Finally someone who wasn't a pussy. And Fritz was injured, too, so Nadal can't rely on the injury card. Fritz just played a better and more aggressive match.

by Anonymousreply 135March 21, 2022 12:25 AM

R127... right back at you... I can't stand nadal, never have, but at least I admit it... what say you....

once again, nadal's idea of being injured and what everyone else considers being injured are polar opposites.... funny, how Fritz was injured, but did you see him stalling? using gamesmanship? asking for the trainer and doctors TWICE? NO!....did you see taylor started to loudly grunt while he was injured like nadal? did you see taylor started shouting and emoting loudly when he won a point like nadal? no!

by Anonymousreply 136March 21, 2022 12:25 AM

[quote]If Daddy F pulls this out, I'm on the next flight to PS to blow him.

Daddy F has no idea what's coming on to him. When he realizes a potbellied caftaned or muumuued datalounger is trying to service him, he's going to regret the chances he had to lose the match.

by Anonymousreply 137March 21, 2022 12:27 AM

Like Taylor a lot and I’m happy he stepped up his game recently. Hope Rafa is back in form for the clay season though.

That being said - you were some fucking cunts today. Didn’t enjoy this at all. The constant Rafa bashing was annoying as fuck…

by Anonymousreply 138March 21, 2022 12:28 AM

Not to sound superficial but Nadal has some bad crows feet for a 35 year old.

by Anonymousreply 139March 21, 2022 12:31 AM

I wish the BNP Paribas guy would just shut up.

by Anonymousreply 140March 21, 2022 12:33 AM

R138... as if the gamesmanship nadal has gotten away with for years isn't worthy of bashing? yeah, he's great off the court and after a match, but during? not so much!...And I also think he's on something as well... i've said my piece....

just happy that a next gen player didn't choke!....

by Anonymousreply 141March 21, 2022 12:34 AM

"I grew up watching you" aka you're old

by Anonymousreply 142March 21, 2022 12:35 AM

Holy shit. Was not expecting Rafa to lose. Good for Fritz though. Huge for him.

Now Rafa can focus on clay and Slam 22.

by Anonymousreply 143March 21, 2022 12:40 AM

Miami will be a nice look at how tennis will be fairly soon with the big 3 out of the game. Whether anyone thinks that is good or bad doesnt matter, its inevitable.

Apparently Tommy Hass texted La Courier today to ask if he had his kit with him in case Fritz couldn't play and they had to play an exo match.

by Anonymousreply 148March 21, 2022 12:55 AM

R146 I think qualifying starts tomorrow. Main draw starts later this week.

by Anonymousreply 149March 21, 2022 12:55 AM

Thank you, R149.

by Anonymousreply 151March 21, 2022 1:02 AM

the women's draw for Miami is out

Krejcikova has withdrawn again

there are a number of Ukrainian players in qualifying. I really hope, should any of them qualify that they don't fall into the sections with Russian and Belarussian players. That would be so awkward. As it stands now, the top 16 section already has Sabalenka, Sasnovich, Kasatkina and Ukrainians Svitolina and Kostyuk.

the big news is Osaka will face Sharma in rd 1 (should be a straight forward win). The seeded player waiting for the winner is Kerber with Fernandez the other seed. I for one would love a Naomi-Leylah rematch.

Azarenka who left IW in tears is playing Miami. Also her twitter is back and I see on March 2 she posted a response to the invasion (see below)

Winless Kenin has taken another WC and will play Kalinina

Pegula might play Stephens in rd 2

Ostapenko drew some bad luck as she'll face either Anisimova or Rogers

by Anonymousreply 153March 21, 2022 1:29 AM

DL's favorite Daddy did it. Good for him. We all make fun of him because he was a horny teenager but he had a great tournament. Those two 3rd set aire breakers gave him confidence. He played great tennis.

by Anonymousreply 154March 21, 2022 1:46 AM

[QUOTE] Krejcikova has withdrawn again

by Anonymousreply 155March 21, 2022 1:53 AM

R130 he had a kid with a girlfriend when he was a teenager. And you know DLers. He got married and then divorced the mom. Seems like a nice guy though.

by Anonymousreply 156March 21, 2022 1:56 AM

in all seriousness I hope Nadal quickly recovers from his injury and can play a full clay season. I want him to lose while healthy. It's not fun having a top player injured

by Anonymousreply 157March 21, 2022 2:24 AM

Who are top player at Miami Open?

by Anonymousreply 158March 21, 2022 2:28 AM

women's top 8 seeds

Sabalenka, Swiatek, Kontaveit, Sakkari, Badosa, Pliskova, Muguruza, Jabeur

men's draw comes out tomorrow

by Anonymousreply 161March 21, 2022 3:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 162March 21, 2022 3:13 AM

R161 Is your question directed to only active players?

by Anonymousreply 163March 21, 2022 3:13 AM

Not necessarily, R163.

by Anonymousreply 164March 21, 2022 3:15 AM

I think Fritz is kinda hot. He looks like one of those tall lanky guys that have a huge dick.

by Anonymousreply 165March 21, 2022 3:16 AM

R162 yes the ex-wife and kid say thanks daddy!

by Anonymousreply 166March 21, 2022 3:22 AM

Why does Kenin keep getting wildcards? Seems like she deserves to qualify to prove some actual mettle.

by Anonymousreply 167March 21, 2022 4:26 AM

for now she gets the benefit of being a slam champ and finalist. She did have her appendix out last year and hasn't been the same since

I think if she doesn't start getting results by the end of clay season the WCs will stop

I'm all for new blood, but Fritz does nothing for me. His gangly body, sunken eyes, and droopy mouth. He always looks weirdly like he's in extreme pain but also overdosing on ketamine. There's also nothing at all about his game that really stands out for me, sometimes he goes DTL well, but I liked the way he managed his nerves this week (if only he couldn't have kept it together when he was 2 sets up on "extremely injured" Djokovic at AO 2020!!).

I just hope he can continue to improve and won't be another Jack Sock or Karen Hemsworth Masters winner whose form takes a complete nosedive. Even defending Miami champ Hurkacz hasn't done too well aside from his Wimbledon run. Norrie seems to be handling it okay but it's early days.

by Anonymousreply 170March 21, 2022 6:54 AM

and Fritz vaults into the top 10 reaching the #8 ranking

it's been a while as far as Americans are concerned. Interestingly he ties both Sock (in 2017) and Isner (in 2018) who also reached the #8 ranking. Fritz has chances to go higher than that as the year progresses though

by Anonymousreply 171March 21, 2022 9:50 AM

Looks like one of the computers or statisticians at the ATP went on the blink. Fritz's points are overstated by 1,000. Add up the points in his rankings breakdown. He should be at 2875, not 3875. That puts him at #14. Feel free to check my math since I'm in the middle of insomnia here in California.

by Anonymousreply 174March 21, 2022 12:15 PM

Most American players (especially the men) are rubbish on clay so he could probably stand to take a few weeks off anyway and come back in Rome, Madrid etc.

by Anonymousreply 175March 21, 2022 12:20 PM

Nadal: "I feel pain even when I try to breathe. It's like I have a needle inside. The thing that worries me now is what I have to do to recover and how long it's going to take" That guy is a joke

by Anonymousreply 176March 21, 2022 12:49 PM

Maybe it's just me, but I just figure out who Taylor Fritz reminds me of.... to me he resembles a young robert taylor? that's what i see or maybe a old robert taylor?...

speaking of fritz, did/does he come from a wealthy family? as nearly all tennis players do, if not wealthy certainly upper middle class..

by Anonymousreply 177March 21, 2022 2:05 PM

yes, he's from a rich family.

by Anonymousreply 178March 21, 2022 2:06 PM

from his wiki-

Fritz was born the youngest of three boys to Guy Fritz and Kathy May. His mother Kathy May Fritz was a top-10 player, and his father Guy Henry Fritz also played professional tennis and was named US Olympic Development Coach of the Year 2016.[4] He is the great-great-grandson of David May, founder of The May Department Stores Company, which merged with Macy's, and the great-grandson of Morton D. May.[5]

Fritz has two older maternal half-brothers, Chris and Kyle.[6][7]

Fritz grew up with his brothers in Rancho Santa Fe in the San Diego metropolitan area. He attended Torrey Pines High School, where he won the CIF singles title in the San Diego section as a freshman. A few months into his sophomore year, he switched to an online high school to play ITF junior events full-time.[8

by Anonymousreply 179March 21, 2022 2:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 183March 21, 2022 3:25 PM

Kathy May "reached three Grand Slam quarterfinals, once at the US Open in 1978 and twice at the French Open in 1977 and 1978. She won seven WTA singles titles during her career, and achieved a career-high ranking of world no. 10 in 1977". She married 3 times and has 3 sons.

by Anonymousreply 184March 21, 2022 3:38 PM

I'm sure he is r182. Seems like most of the American players are these days.

Can someone explain to me why Sabalenka is still ranked so high when she is playing shit?

I assume it's because of the way she played last year.

by Anonymousreply 185March 21, 2022 4:10 PM

Yeah Sabalenka did well last year and she hasnt lost those points yet. She won Madrid and got to the semis of Wimbledon and the US Open. The way she is playing lately she will be out of the top 10 soon.

by Anonymousreply 186March 21, 2022 4:18 PM

Yes, she has already dropped from a clear No. 2 to No. 5...

by Anonymousreply 187March 21, 2022 4:20 PM

I remember that Mladonna got to the top 10 for the first and only time of her career after, what?, six or seven losses back to back, so Sabalenka can stay up high for a while.

by Anonymousreply 188March 21, 2022 5:39 PM

I hope that you're wrong, R185. Just because a few American ATP idiots have made some MAGA remarks shouldn't apply that political persuasion to most of the American players.

Tell ole Jim, that when Ben PAYS for those great seats, and gives money to the U.S.T.A. and attends other tournaments when he's not working, maybe then he can be considered "supporting tennis"!...

R197 is VERY angry she couldn't afford tickets.

by Anonymousreply 199March 21, 2022 11:26 PM

interesting early round sections in the men's draw:

possible Medvedev vs. Murray assuming Murray gets by Delbonis

hot but majorly slumping Garin could play Martinez

Basilashvili could possibly play Brooksby in what would be 1 of the biggest contrast of styles ever lol

possible flashy rd3 between Shapovalov vs. Evans

look out for German newcomer Altmaier and that grunt of his...he could face Tsitsipas

Tsonga has returned via protected ranking and will play Thompson, winner to get de Minaur

young gun Musetti vs. Popyrin

DL fave hot match Fucsovics vs. Giron with winner to face Alcaraz

Fritz is in the draw and being a seed he wouldn't have to play before Friday or Saturday

should be entertaining match Korda vs Davidovich Fokina

WC Kyrgios has drawn Mannarino with winner to play Rublev lol

Nakashima vs. Kwon with winner to play Tiafoe

Coric is playing again and faces a tbd qualifier winner gets Zverev

by Anonymousreply 200March 21, 2022 11:43 PM

I get Garin and Giron mixed up until I remember Giron is the one with the hot ass.

R199... R197 here... YOU'RE right I am angry as are 99% of true tennis fans who can't afford to shell out thousands of dollars for a week of watching, not counting hotel, food, rental car, parking lot fees, etc.....and have to sit in the rafters....and the powers that be of tennis don't give a shit as long as those who ARE wealthy and sponsors are around.... AND because I love Tennis so much, it makes me mad and sad, and it's them the powers that be, and this very reason (besides the lack of great rivalries, a top american champion, etc) that is making this sport even MORE of a "rich mans' game" and a "niche sport" whose popularity is dwindling...

by Anonymousreply 203March 22, 2022 12:43 AM

Fritz is officially #13 on the ATP ranking but with Miami points removed pre-tournament he's #12 in the live ranking.

Without even going into the whole COVID thing about going to the event to watch the matches in person, I'm just glad that we can see so much more tennis now virtually than was ever available 25 years ago. Back then we were lucky to catch whatever was available on cable TV, and the selection was whatever match the broadcaster chose. Before cable we were lucky even to have Slam semis or finals available on network TV if it wasn't preempted by some other sports event or whatever the network felt like broadcasting instead.

by Anonymousreply 205March 22, 2022 1:43 AM

R173 wow good catch. I think this is the first time they ever messed up a new rankings update. Weird how they put Fritz at #8 originally but it's now corrected.

Rafael Nadal is set to be out for four to six weeks after suffering a stress fracture in his rib and will miss the Monte Carlo Masters... despite bravely playing on with the problem in the Indian Wells final

Rafa Nadal has suffered a stress fracture in his rib and will be out for up to six weeks, the Spaniard's team said on Tuesday.

Nadal, the winner of 21 Grand Slam singles titles, complained of a chest issue during his run to the final of the ATP 1000 event in Indian Wells, California last week.

The Spaniard bravely battled on against American Taylor Fritz despite struggling with his rib problem before losing 6-3, 7-6 - and later claimed he had breathing difficulties throughout the match.

He was also suffering from the same issue in his semi-final win over Carlos Alcaraz - being forced to battle to a 6-4 4-6 6-3 - but the three-set victory took its toll and he wasn't able to pull through in the final.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Nadal wrote: 'Hello everyone, I wanted to announce that I have returned to Spain and I immediately went to visit my medical team to do the tests after the Indian Wells final that I played with discomfort.

'As it turns out, I have a stress crack in one of my ribs and will be out for 4-6 weeks. This is not good news and I did not expect this. I am sunk and sad because after the start of the season I have had such a good time.

'I reached a very important part of the year with very good feelings and good results. But hey, I've always had that fighting and overcoming spirit and what I will do is be patient and work hard after my recovery. Once again thank everyone for the support.'

His loss to Fritz ended his 20-match winning streak and after the match he explained how a feeling like a 'needle' hampered his performance and led to breathing issues, before discovering the problem was due to the rib stress fracture.

'When I'm breathing, when I'm moving, it's like a needle all the time inside. I get dizzy a little bit because it's painful. It's a kind of pain that limits me a lot. It's not only about pain, I don't feel very well because it affects my breathing.'

Nadal had already decided not to play in the Miami Open over the next fortnight and will instead have a short break before the clay-court season begins next month.

He said of his first defeat of the year: 'I wanted to make it perfect before clay. It has been very, very, very beautiful. Honestly I am sad because of the way I was not able to compete. It's tough to have these feelings, every day, but in the final it's very, very ugly.'

by Anonymousreply 220March 22, 2022 3:27 PM

The wingnuts on twitter were really fast to chalk Nadal's breathing pain to the jab. Oh the Schadenfreude from the Djokovic's fanboys!

by Anonymousreply 230March 22, 2022 9:03 PM

Joe Salisbury, R230

Joe can top me anytime he wants.

by Anonymousreply 232March 22, 2022 9:08 PM

by Anonymousreply 237March 23, 2022 2:22 AM

Oh fuck's sake, it's true. She's just 25. And was playing so, so well. Nobody could touch her at the Aus Open. Why?

by Anonymousreply 238March 23, 2022 2:28 AM

wow just bizarre. I wonder what the reason is

well remember she left the sport when she was younger and came back

maybe she'll return in a few years

So Swiatek becomes #1. At least she just won IW and has previously won a slam. First Polish #1

by Anonymousreply 239March 23, 2022 2:41 AM

Will Arantxa Rus be unfairly maligned because of her last name?

by Anonymousreply 240March 23, 2022 2:53 AM

R239 Does that happen - a retired player is taken out of the official rankings? I thought they were just left in until they drop off.

Wtf is wrong with her?!? She is gonna regret this.

by Anonymousreply 244March 23, 2022 3:19 AM

It really is shocking she is quitting again (and as a pretty clear #1).

by Anonymousreply 245March 23, 2022 3:19 AM

Barty is a talent for sure but she never dominated the tour. She didn't just win everything she entered these last few years

by Anonymousreply 246March 23, 2022 3:21 AM

It makes sense looking now that she didnt play the sunshine double. Her reason was cited as physically not being ready which was bs cause she won the Aussie fairly comfortably and it was over month ago before the start of Indian Wells. I'll miss her variety that many women dont have but if the desire isnt there then no reason to keep going. Shes only 25.

by Anonymousreply 247March 23, 2022 3:21 AM

Who is current top player on WTA?

by Anonymousreply 248March 23, 2022 3:24 AM

R248 Swiatek is currently number 2 but it depends if Barty immediately withdraws her spot from the ranking. Other players just let their ranking fall over time.

by Anonymousreply 249March 23, 2022 3:26 AM

What about Incredible Hulk Girl?

by Anonymousreply 250March 23, 2022 3:27 AM

Thanks, R249.

by Anonymousreply 251March 23, 2022 3:27 AM

Incredible Hulk girl has been having serving problems recently and dropped down. Bit unlucky for her since she was a strong No. 2 for so long but it's better that a slam winner is No. 1.

by Anonymousreply 252March 23, 2022 3:59 AM

I wonder if our resident DL Rafa hater thinks he faking this injury too?

A bit stunned about Barty. But also not stunned.

by Anonymousreply 253March 23, 2022 4:24 AM

I'm sorry but if Henin's sudden retirement was suspicious, Ashleigh Barty's retirement is suspicious. Hopefully, she won't come back on tour in two years, as if everything's A-OK, saying that she feels she can bring more to women's tennis. Like Henin. Ugh!

by Anonymousreply 254March 23, 2022 6:46 AM

When Henin left I figured she went to film a Haley Joel Osment movie. You never see Justine and Haley in the same place at the same time.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 255March 23, 2022 6:58 AM

R253 Of course he is faking this injury. He was never going to play Miami. He will be back in Madrid acting like he is a fucking hero. I won't be surprised if he takes these few week to take some more steroid so he can win RG.

by Anonymousreply 256March 23, 2022 7:00 AM

It's not nearly as suspicious as Henin's retirement, lol. She retired one week out from her favourite slam RG, she had won 4 of the last 5 (and three in a row) and specifically mentioned they were not allowed to bring up PED allegations in her press conference and immediately took her name off the rankings. Then she came back exactly one year (silent ban?) and 3 months (the amount of time needed to re-enter doping controls) later.

Barty has always hated the grind of the tour, and actually retired once before. Frequently pulls out of big events. She probably wants to have kids and play golf. Good for her I guess, but it's a loss for the WTA who finally had a consistent #1 who wasn't a complete bitch. Sometimes I wonder if the huge prize money increases have stunted the girls' motivation to keep winning and compete with themselves. None of them seem to actually like playing the sport, entering tournaments is apparently a huge burden, and once they have one good result and rack up the endorsement $$ they tend to flop for a year or two afterward.

by Anonymousreply 257March 23, 2022 7:42 AM

R256, but he's missing Monte Carlo. A tournament he owns. And Barcelona - his home tourney. And another tourney he owns. So he's going to sacrifice two very possible victories just to rest up. Makes sense. Perfect sense.

Oh, Rafa hates playing in Madrid. The altitude kills his topspin. That's the tourney he'd skip, btw.

Also, he pulled out of Miami two weeks ago. Way before the injury.

Unless it was all a long game?

by Anonymousreply 258March 23, 2022 8:46 AM

it's a bummer as a couple years ago I was REALLY looking forward to a developing rivalry between Osaka, Barty and Andreescu. Osaka and Barty are 2-2 while both Barty and Osaka are 1-0 against Andreescu

now Barty is gone and Andreescu is AWOL while Osaka has not fully recovered mentally but at least she's playing

by Anonymousreply 259March 23, 2022 9:11 AM

The Barty retirement is really strange. She was a great player and had a great personality. She also seemed to be struggling with mental health-related problems but.... I do not get it. Her sponsors might be so happy!

by Anonymousreply 260March 23, 2022 10:07 AM

*smothered sobs*

I'll miss her beautiful all court game, her athleticism, her wicked slice BH, and her delightful, self-effacing personality.

by Anonymousreply 269March 23, 2022 3:00 PM

It's also a bit awkward for Hologic, who just became a title sponsor for the WTA. What must they be thinking when their #1 player and winner of 2 of the last 3 grand slams retires three weeks after they announce the partnership.

by Anonymousreply 270March 23, 2022 4:00 PM

I think there is a major shift in the mentality of these players. The history of most sports is the best hate to lose and want to win at all costs. Tennis is no different. But even starting as far back as Serena and Venus Williams, you could see they did not have the singular focus that Graf, pre-stabbing Seles, Navratilova, Evert, Billie Jean King, Margaret Court (yes, even that homophobe) had. The past greats wanted to be #1 and win all the titles, with the Slams being their main target, but they wanted to consistently win all titles on the tour and be #1.

Serena and Venus, after winning Slams, came in and out of the tour. They had interests outside of tennis. Then the next generation felt when they achieved their goals, they sort of lacked motivation. They didn't have that killer instinct. You see it on the ATP tour as well. Think about Dominic Thiem who won the 2020 US Open then pretty much went away after that. I think that's a big reason Nadal, Djokovic and Federer continued to collect Slam after Slam. The Big 3 all developed that single-minded focus, probably no one more so than Nadal, but they never really had to face that mentality in the younger generations.

I think the younger generation grew up with terms like work/life balance. They don't want to be all about one thing. Barty seems to have that personality. She was able to focus the last year or so and committed to being away from her home country to do so. I think it took a toll on her. Steffi Graf would have stayed away from Germany for 3 years if it meant winning titles. Not so this younger generation.

It's an interesting shift in perspective and values. I don't know that the single-minded focus of the past is healthy. It seems like every autobiography I've read of past tennis greats touches on this and how they all had to make a lot of sacrifices to achieve their goals. I don't think the younger generation is really willing to make those sacrifices.

by Anonymousreply 271March 23, 2022 4:31 PM

Steffi Graf would have gnawed out her uterus if it meant winning titles.

by Anonymousreply 272March 23, 2022 4:51 PM

Steffi Graf went after titles like she had to pay off an abusive Nazi who was holding her mother for ransom.

by Anonymousreply 273March 23, 2022 4:57 PM

I don't know if it's fair to classify Serena and Venus as the turning point. They had interests outside of tennis, but at her peak Serena feasted on winning like a fucking vampire, and would never throw in the kind of tank jobs and excuses we see from Osaka, Anisimova, Andreescu etc. Hated losing so much she called her own sister a 'fucking bitch' on camera in a GS final, and last year took a wildcard to the Parma 250 in the worst form of her life to try and grind out some clay court wins with her 40 year old body before the French. You would NEVER see Barty or Osaka doing this.

Venus loves the sport like no other, she does Q&As on tennis tips once per week on IG and actually asks fans to send/tag videos of their tennis queries so she can critique them. She's still grinding it out in rehab and the gym trying to come back to play the game she loves at 42 or so. At her last AO she was so injured she needed to use her racquet as a walking cane to stand up. But she still tried to fight through the match and accepted her bagel from Errani. She's even at the current Miami Open with Seles, and attended Newport Beach to watch the mens tennis.

I think the prize money is just too high with this current generation. There is no incentive to try win titles week in and week out, or viciously battle for the #1 ranking like Hingis and Lindsay used to. You win one big tourney or slam, and immediately feel free to slump (Sloane, Thiem, Kenin). They also don't seem to actually care much about the game or sport, I think their parents tried to copy Richard Williams and forced them into it, but it didn't work because the kids actually didn't care. Naomi says she wants to play as few tournaments as possible and her sister said she never enjoyed tennis. Hopefully determined players like Sakkari, Badosa, Swiatek, Alcaraz, Sinner etc. can usher in some passion once more.

by Anonymousreply 274March 23, 2022 5:01 PM

Say what you will, R274, but Serena and Venus never consistently exhibited the kind of year-in, year-out commitment that the old guard did. They were the first not to have that, then it went WAY downhill from there in the next generations.

R290 Like most tennis fans, we just tried to ignore her and hope she'd go away.

by Anonymousreply 291March 24, 2022 3:38 AM

Borety obviously retired because she is AFRAID. She knows that the writing is on the wall and CoCo GOAT is ready to take over and DOMINATE tennis.

CoCo is going to win every single slam until 2040. She is already greater than Serena, Graff, Monica, Chris and Martina. Her only competition is herself.

by Anonymousreply 292March 24, 2022 11:24 AM

R320 so you thought saba was gonna win with iga? sabalenka is headcase now

by Anonymousreply 325March 25, 2022 11:58 AM

Poor Sabalenka. She must be a total wreck right now. She should take 6 months off to regroup and clear her head.

What is going on with Kontveit? This loss is mind boggling.

Both coached or formally coached by Dmitry Tursunov. Was he with Kontaveit last night in Miami? Sabalenka feel apart after their split. I wonder if something’s up with him and Kontaveit.

by Anonymousreply 326March 25, 2022 12:11 PM

loved how that commentator during the sabalenka match finally said was needed to be said for so long.... she had no plan b, much less a plan c..

loved how he out loud said he couldn't understand why someone like her kept on playing the same way, point after point, game after game while losing and why she couldn't understand to at least try something different, do something different...

it's because she and the other 99% of the players on the wta can't! they all play the same way, slug from the baseline and hope they do it better that day than their opponent and vice versa....

and this goes back as far as sharapova.. losing badly to serena every time, every year, ( so called rivalry) and she never did ANYTHING to change, improve, etc....

by Anonymousreply 327March 25, 2022 12:21 PM

I was at the tournament yesterday and watched Sabalenka practice before last night’s match. She hit every ball as hard as she possibly could with a grunt/scream with every swing. Every player was hitting as hard as possible during practice but nobody was putting in the emotional and physical energy that Sabalenka was.

By the way, Baoudosa is almost as big and strong as Sabalenka is in real life. She’s extremely intimidating looking on the court. She was practicing with Swiatek. Juan was hanging around Baudosa on the practice court in a tank top doing nothing but looking sexy.

My favorite was Casper Ruud who is really handsome in real life. FAA is elegant and polite but more withdrawn with fans. Both signed lots of autographs.

by Anonymousreply 347March 26, 2022 12:01 AM

YAY, IGA!

by Anonymousreply 348March 26, 2022 12:27 AM

R348 You meant GAY,IGA!

by Anonymousreply 349March 26, 2022 12:35 AM

Swiatek's No.1 at just 20, with a slam under her belt and has reached the last 16 or better at all the slams. That's pretty impressive these days.

by Anonymousreply 350March 26, 2022 1:05 AM

R350 it would be impressive in 2010-2017

by Anonymousreply 351March 26, 2022 1:09 AM

R351 Please elaborate.

by Anonymousreply 352March 26, 2022 1:11 AM

by Anonymousreply 356March 26, 2022 7:16 AM

R346 & r347, you’ve both forgotten Safina?

by Anonymousreply 357March 26, 2022 8:02 AM

R357 Right? She was a terrible #1.

by Anonymousreply 358March 26, 2022 8:09 AM

Fuck you R357. I am the GOAT of bad number ones and a gay icon.

by Anonymousreply 359March 26, 2022 8:11 AM

R357 Safina had a better record than Pliskova too. Pliskova has only 2 big titles to her name (Cincinnati and Rome). She's a 2 time slam finalist

Safina has 5 big titles (Berlin, Canada, Tokyo, Rome, Madrid). She is a 3 time slam finalist and is the 2008 silver medalist. Safina also backed up her 2008 clay season by doing better the next year. Pliskova had 1 brief part of a season when she got hot and hit #1. Neither was a good #1 but Safina's record is way better than Pliskova's

by Anonymousreply 360March 26, 2022 8:52 AM

That Californian cunt Tracy Austin is obviously the worst and luckiest number one. All her wins were flukes and she only won because Martina was exhausted after endless nights of passion with me and Chrissy was having her weekly visit from Auntie Flo. Chrissy, Marti and moi are the three greatest players of all time.

by Anonymousreply 361March 26, 2022 9:38 AM

Jelena, you weren't even the #1 forehead on the WTA.

by Anonymousreply 362March 26, 2022 10:48 AM

Marti at R362, does your butt still hurt after all the kickings it got from Vee, Ree, Lindsey, Moni and Steffi? How does your trophy shelf look with the empty slot for the Roland Garros trophy which you never won?

Ree may have beaten me 50 times but at least I managed to get a career Grand Slam which even Vee, Moni, Lindsey and Juju couldn't do. And I did it all with a weak heart.

by Anonymousreply 364March 26, 2022 4:52 PM

Anyone catch Garin's shorts slit all the way up his thigh in his match against Martinez? New men's trend?

by Anonymousreply 365March 26, 2022 5:02 PM

Here's a picture of Garin's slit

by Anonymousreply 371March 26, 2022 5:56 PM

Felix and Matteo in slumps...I wonder if they've both split with their cousin girlfriends and need to console each other.

by Anonymousreply 372March 26, 2022 8:24 PM

A little airbrushing would make things just right.

by Anonymousreply 386March 26, 2022 10:26 PM

Korda comes through!

by Anonymousreply 387March 26, 2022 10:45 PM
