Katy Perry
Her most iconic song is either "I Kissed a Girl" or "Firework"
Her most iconic album is "Teenage Dream"
As for my personal favorite song: I can't decide between "Self-Inflicted", "Teenage Deam" and "Wide Awake,"
I think most of her videos were better than the songs. California Gurls especially.

She had a good run. Aged out of the pop market. Greatest Hits tours & Vegas. There’s not much to say about her.

Forgotten pop singer from the late 00’s / early 00’s Lady Gaga era. She was cool 10 years ago and when I mean cool, she got played on the radio and had a pop career.
She was like Rihanna. If Rihanna or Katy took a break, they would be replaced by someone else and fast. Rihanna went on to sell makeup and beauty products which kept her going but Katy took a break and fell off.

I have never liked her, the only song I’ll give her is “Teenage Dream”. It’s a pretty song and has a timeless feel to it.

I feel like Katy Perry never got pass a certain awkwardness she has as a performer. I feel like she never quite committed to being a hot chick with big boobs. She always had to do something weird and awkward to show she can be funny too. It's like being funny was her way of getting cred.
I agree "Teenage Dream" is a classic. In fact, Katy was hard pressed to come up with bad Pop music. If she were to put out a Best Of album right now, it would be a slap.

The song "Teenage Dream" is a perfect pop song.
She had a really good run. But she went years in between albums, which allowed other pop acts to steal her thunder. Dr. Luke's downfall also hurt her career, too, since he produced the "Teenage Dream" album and was responsible for shaping her sound.
It's crazy how her career nosedived overnight when she chopped off her hair.

R16 I think came down to two things. One, there’s a such thing as the fourth album curse. Most people have heard of the sophomore slump but the fourth album curse tends to make most pop stars falter. It’s the album where they make after they have sold the records, done the big tours, won a few awards, made their money — and thus have nothing to prove. So they maybe take a little too long to put it out, the sound isn’t as immediate, they don’t have to do as much promo so they don’t. They decide they don’t have to work with the same team that helped them get famous. And that’s when the diminishing returns start. The savvy pop stars know that’s when it’s time for a rebrand.
With Katy, she waited years to put out her fourth album. No Dr. Luke, very little Max Martin, tried this slinky, refined disco sound (so no big choruses a la Firework or Teenage Dream), the ill-informed haircut wasn’t Rosemary’s Baby but more soccer mom, awkward singles (the one with the food and the one with the basketballs…that’s all you need to know). It just didn’t work.
The other thing is Katy never quite got the live part down. Her songs have always been about a key and a step too high for her, so live she always had a hard time keeping up. She’s an awkward dancer, and she can at times just be corny (look at the performance in SNL where the backpack kid stole the show).

It is crazy how fast she dropped out of favor with the general audience who make pop stars popular. It happened overnight. Black horse was a huge hit then her first flop came with that Olympics song.

Teenage Dream isn’t necessarily brilliant songwriting but it has a timeless quality to it. It sounds like it could’ve come out at any point in the last thirty years. Plus Katy manages to evoke a certain hot chick California cool vibe that she never has replicated nor have many other artists even tried.

In 2010, it seemed Gaga, Rihanna and Katy were the top three. Katy was always my least favorite because her voice was annoying and her music was generic and sappy. Teenage Dream was a good album but thanks to good producers and writers but it won't stand the test of time.

She faltered because 95% of her appeal was Dr Luke and Max Martin. Her songs found their place on the radio, with the big poppy choruses and catchy lyrics. Songs like "Roar" and "California Girls." When she did that album without them (I actually liked 'Chained to the Rhythm' as a single), the public couldn't care less. And she couldn't fall back on being a great live performer, or an interesting artiste who takes their sound in different directions, because she is neither of those things and was really just propped up to sing their songs.
Her public persona also became very cringe. This was around the time she cut all her hair off, filmed herself for 24 straight hours or something and was constantly breaking down or pulling stunts. Without the poppy hits to go along with it, or any shred of authenticity, the public rolled their eyes and moved on to the next thing. American Idol is the final nail in the coffin, people seem to hate her on that.
TLDR: She was just a puppet for zeitgeisty studio producers anyway. They could have chosen anyone. Rihanna is a similar case - she was just another pretty/sexy teenager snapped up by the industry to sell their R&B songs. Never a great vocalist, dancer, writer, or anything. She fulfilled her record contract, realised she didn't have any musical ambitions of her own, and now she sells makeup and paparazzi pics and probably makes way more money than she did in that awful contract.

I remember that R41. She also got in trouble for kissing this barely legal teenage boy who was sheltered Christian bumpkin on American Idol. But people pointed out the double standard and that if she was a man that would incredibly inappropriate even if a joke.

Nah rihanna had a much longer run and never really flopped, she just stopped making music in 2016. And still had hits as a featured artist since. Rhianna hit the scene in 2005 and became an international superstar with Girl Gone Bad. She never looked back. Katy Perry is like the Paula Abdul of this new generation, Rihanna like the Madge or Janet Jackson.

IMHO "Firework" is a great song, a real power ballad that would have been a big hit if any major artist had covered it. In fact it's a pity that the song wasn't given to a better singer, someone who could have made the most of it!
I always liked her, in a mild sort of way, in an industry where most artists were trying to be touch or sexy, or trying to be the sort of whiny twinks that would appeal to the 12-year-old straight girl market, she tried to be the fun girl! Her videos were fun and frequently quite funny, she was the only major artist who made a sense of humor part of her persona. And of course, her career died when she started taking herself seriously, but it would have gone soon enough anyway. A person can't be the fun sexy party girl for when they're over 35.
