Child characters on TV you identified with when young
I was never rambunctious or mouthy, so the kids on "The Brady Bunch" and "The Partridge Family" or "Land of the Lost" were completely alien to me (although I could identify with Marcia on the first show when she was vain or anguished, which was much of the time).
I mostly identified with passive, well behaved little boys like Davey Collins (David Henesy) on "Dark Shadows," even though he was ten years older than I was, and Philip Traynor (Brian Morrison) on "Maude."

Marc Copage on "Julia," which is interesting because I'm white. I also thought Diahann Carroll looked like my mother.
"Corey" had the same lunch box I had. I felt sure we'd be best friends.

LOL David Collins was a holy terror, I don't think you ever watched DS. The only time he shut up was when his stepmother, Cassandra, rendered him mute.

Bess Lindstrom. I'm a boy.
Also, Olivia Cunningham from Knots Landing. My mom looked like Donna Mills, too.

David Collins was always being menaced, which made me identify with him. He seemed to have no resources other than to cry for help.

You people would have had your gender reassigned and given new pussies if you were growing up today. What became of y'all? Any transitioned? Let's see if today's hip cool woke parents are right about their kids gender issues.

I fantasized about being Bud on Flipper because then I’d live with the hottie Sandy, who would, of course, be banging me or sticking his dick down my throat every night in our room

Andrew Garvey on LHOP. He was kind to animals and wasn't afraid to show his emotions or play with a girl.

I identified with Peter Brady....he always seemed to be searching for an identity and what made him stand out in a way that was more subtle than Jan, but you could tell he had a lot of insecurity. And he was the least masculine of the three boys, joining the glee club and doing plays and whatnot.

I used to fantasize about being Johnny Quest and traveling around the world with hunky Race Bannon protecting me 24/7.

I kinda identified with Becky on Roseanne, in that I was gifted & supposed to be the bright light of the family; I’m a good person but didn’t reach my full potential career-wise (though that part was explored more in The Conners than in the original show)

Vanessa on The Cosby Show.

None. My father died when I was young. We were poor and I was a latchkey kid. My parents were immigrants and spoke broken English. Almost no one I grew up with lived in a single family home. We didn't have a car so we took the bus. All those TV families were alien to me.

Our family used to [italic]dream[/italic] of taking the bus, r21. We just all sat in a cardboard refrigerator box we found out by a dumpster and pretended it was a bus taking us to where we wanted to go.
And my parents were deaf-mutes, so they couldn't even speak broken English, much less any language. Count yourself lucky.

R22 - I'm glad you found my post amusing. It's the reason I understand why people (including gays) look for representation on TV shows.
And before you go there, I don't believe sticking people who don't belong in historical dramas.

Son Gohan. Yes, I'm aware it's animated. But, a TV character's a TV character.
He had to put up with with a lot of shit at a very young age. Literally had the weight of the world on his shoulders.
I'm a girl.

Yes, because you're one of the many on here who can't handle different opinions regarding the COVID vaccines, r26, and chose to turn this place into an echo chamber in "protest" by ignoring people you disagree with.
Enjoy the skewed DL experience of your own creation and continue announcing it in every damn thread.

I was always told how much I resembled Peter Billingsly not for A Christmas story but for his role as Messy Marvin in the Hersheys commercials. I could relate a lot with Ralph Wiggum also.

Malcolm from Malcolm in the Middle. I had similar lower-middle class lifestyle and my mother also ruled with an iron fist. I also thought I was smarter than nearly everyone lol

I thought Danny Partridge on The Partridge Family was the coolest person in the world, and I wanted to be him. In the years since, the more I learn about Danny Bonaduce the less I like him and thus the myth of the Danny Partridge character has crumbled.

I feel so bad for R21. Did you grow up in the '80s? The '70s had poor people, single parents, and apartment living on TV but they disappeared during the Reagan years. You'd think the whole country became wealthy overnight.

Lisa Simpson. Like her, I was the ignored middle child who was too smart for my own good.

I don't remember particularly identifying with any child characters, though I certainly envied Jeffrey on Voyagers! being able to have all sorts of adventures in the company of Jon-Erik Hexum's frequently barechested Phineas Bogg.

R21, you and me both.
I had nothing in common with anyone on tv.
The only character I related to was Penny (Janet Jackson, who would have made a good actress)on Good Times, whose mother burnt her with an iron so she went to live with Willona.

Chris Partridge #1
I didn't identify with him but he gave me a phobia as a child that I would be replaced by someone blonder and cuter.

Growing up in the 60's there weren't any kids on TV that I identified with. To me they were all good looking, played sports, had parents who doted on them, were smart & personable, had attractive siblings who they interacted with, and always surrounded by lots of friends. I had none of that. In fact, I was the polar opposite. And since I already knew I was "different" (gay) from about 8 or 9, the inability to identify with any kid on TV further convinced me I was a freak of nature. It took me a decade or more to get past most of those insecurities.
