Ghosts BBC Version

I recently watched all three seasons on HBO and think it's brilliant! I wish we'd get some gay male content like sex crazed Julian hooking up with Thomas the poet!

The US version is on now and I've watched 5 minutes and it's amusing.

by Anonymousreply 2April 1, 2022 1:14 AM

I hated the US version.

by Anonymousreply 3April 1, 2022 3:36 AM

Not the Ibsen play? Boo.

by Anonymousreply 4April 1, 2022 4:29 AM

R3 The latest episode where they explain how the Trev ghost lost his pants (& died) is smart, funny & touching.

I love all the characters & can't wait for the next episode. I haven't said that about a show in ages.

Maybe you should give it another chance in a marathon viewing down the line.

But this has only got a 15% Non-White Cast.

It doesn't fulfil the BBC's Diversity Quota.

Ben and Matt Blanton are both hot.

by Anonymousreply 10June 10, 2022 6:17 PM

I'm torn between Ben Willbond and Laurence Rickard. I could easily fall in love with either of them.

The male cast members of Ghosts showed their bare asses in another series called Yonderland. Unfortunately, it's only available to watch in the UK.☹

by Anonymousreply 12June 10, 2022 7:30 PM

Yonderland, in its final season I believe, had the running gag of one of Ben Willbond's characters kissing the same extra during moments of celebration and the extra, playing his friend, not being ok with it.

Simon Farnaby who plays Julian the MP has a nice writing career going for him. He's co-written WONKA, PINOCCHIO and PADDINGTON 2 - which is why he appeared in the Paddington Queen's Jubilee bit.

He also co-wrote the script for the film THE PHANTOM OF THE OPEN, adapted from the book he co-wrote. He also appears in it briefly. It's a really good film starring Mark Rylance.

by Anonymousreply 14June 11, 2022 9:43 PM

The Ghosts team has written and starred in two other successful TV series, Horrible Histories and Yonderland.

by Anonymousreply 15June 11, 2022 10:45 PM

R15, are those shows worth watching? IMDB says they’re aimed at children.

by Anonymousreply 16June 11, 2022 10:54 PM

I didn't know there's a forthcoming fourth series - great news!

by Anonymousreply 17June 11, 2022 11:11 PM

Robin the caveman is endearing. Moonah! It’s a jolly wee show.

by Anonymousreply 18June 11, 2022 11:15 PM

Yonderland is not for kids. The humor is pretty raunchy.

by Anonymousreply 19June 11, 2022 11:22 PM

I was well into Ghosts’ second season before I realized Rickard plays both Robin and Humphrey’s Head. Well done, makeup department!

by Anonymousreply 31September 13, 2022 3:53 PM

And the writers are already working on another season to follow!

by Anonymousreply 32September 13, 2022 6:04 PM

Yay! When it will be on HBO? It's so cute. I'm a huge fan of Horrible Histories

by Anonymousreply 33October 4, 2022 9:52 PM

I've heard the end of October.

Due to the writers/actors strike, CBS is airing the UK original-flavour Ghosts in November. Each episode will be followed by a rerun of the US version. As a way of filling up time slots I guess this makes a certain amount of sense, but I think the UK original is miles better (and funnier) than the US version -- better scripts, acting, production values, etc. -- and putting them rightnexttoeachother is only going to show that. All seasons of the UK version (except the most recent and last) are currently available on Max.

Season 5 will be the series finale. I hope they all get sucked off!

I like both versions and I’m curious what American TV audiences will think of the UK version. It’s stories are usually much darker and more serious than the US version.

There is also something typically British about the creators’ decision that series 5 will be the last, meaning there will only be around 30 episodes in total, whereas the US version has produced 40 around 4 episodes in just 2 series.

by Anonymousreply 37October 3, 2023 2:31 AM

They can only go on so long before the cast begins aging.

by Anonymousreply 38October 3, 2023 2:32 AM

Someone at Max sucked off all the seasons of the UK Ghosts. Now you have to pay by episode for it on Apple+ or Prime and they only have the first three seasons. I wish streamers would get their shit sorted.

So we found out that ghosts can have sex!

by Anonymousreply 41October 9, 2023 10:26 PM

Simon Farnaby's original idea for Julien had him in bondage gear with a ball gag in his mouth. The writers thought the censors wouldn't let that fly.

by Anonymousreply 42October 16, 2023 3:56 AM

Nor would he character be able to talk.

by Anonymousreply 43October 16, 2023 5:26 PM

Nice to see Ghosts UK on CBS the other night. Although I'm pretty sure there were some edits to get the episodes in under 22-23 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 44November 18, 2023 8:16 PM

But these are Brit seasons/series. Aren't there only 21 episodes of GhostsUK? Like one traditional American Season.

by Anonymousreply 45November 18, 2023 8:38 PM

GhostsUK has five seasons/series of six episodes each. There's at least one Christmas special, too. I'm pretty sure the fifth season was final one, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 46November 18, 2023 8:45 PM

There will be a final Christmas special.

by Anonymousreply 47November 18, 2023 10:13 PM

OK, that leaves about 32 episodes of GUK.

Ghosts USA already has 40 episodes broadcast.

by Anonymousreply 48November 18, 2023 11:38 PM

I don't mind the short British seasons/series. Would I like a few more episodes? Sure. But with fewer episodes to write and produce you get fewer mediocre episodes.

by Anonymousreply 49November 20, 2023 6:09 PM

[quote]But with fewer episodes to write and produce you get fewer mediocre episodes.

Watched the first two episodes. So you are saying it gets better, r49?

by Anonymousreply 50November 20, 2023 10:36 PM

I think it does. Your mileage may vary, of course.

by Anonymousreply 51November 21, 2023 6:25 PM

Watching last night's DVR'd episodes. The BBC version seems to hi light what pains in the ass the British are.

I skipped through the second episode and every fucking time I stopped to watch, Alison said SORRY, SORRY, SORRY, SORRY, SORRY.

There is God awful little dialogue for filling the screen with SORRY.

The American version is showing itself to be the superior version. Does Lady Button say sorry after she throws herself out the window, again and again.
