Adam Woodward is a stunningly beautiful man who was on the soap opera Hollyoaks, but recently killed off, but had trouble acting his way out of a paper bag. David Tag, another actor big on muscles and looks, but lacking thespian skills was also recently killed off. The newer show runners seem to be eliminating the pretty boys who have little skill or depth. Hopefully Owen Warner as Romeo remains safe, he has some real talent if they would just give him a storyline beyond being shirtless exercising and looking in the mirror.

Brad Pitt, for me. The man can't act for shit, but his looks made him a movie star giving him the opportunity to star in the best movies surrounded by the best acting talent. I always fall back on the starkest example, 'Seven'. The principals, Freeman, Spacey and, yes, Goop, were clearly in a different class, giving clinics in subtlety while he was hamming it up, only saved by the fact he was at the peak of his physical beauty. But in a fair world, William Bradley Pitt would've gone the way of male models like Mark Vanderloo or Michael Bergin.

Freddie Prinze Jr. I know he had a reputation for being all brawn no brains in his 90s teen era, but having rewatched She’s All That, I was amazed by not only how wooden he is, but how I likeable. Like Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney, FPJ had a door opened to him because of his name. He certainly didn't get it opened for his talent. Even if his hand wasn't held the whole way like Dakota Johnson or Gwyneth Paltrow, his name gave him an edge over competition.

Most of them to be honest. Every now and then, you have someone effortlessly likable, charismatic, and talented like Paul Rudd who also happens to be very attractive, but it's rare.
John Ritter was another one. I always thought he was incredibly sexy, but his talent for comedy and the fact that he didn't take himself very seriously made him even more attractive.
I'd say Zac Efron, but he really excels in musicals and comes across well in those. They just don't make many of them and he's forced to do terrible bro comedies and lower tier "dramas" that show off his weak spots.

One begins to suspect that, like Marilyn, "Keanu Reeves" is a character he plays.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | March 5, 2022 12:08 AM |
Acting is about pretending to be something you're not and being competent at it. So I don't think an actor who is only good as themselves should count as talented.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | March 5, 2022 1:20 AM |
R135 Any time an actor is playing any part, they're acting. They're not "being themselves". They have to make lines written on a page sound real and believable, they have to react as the character. They also have to do many technical things you probably don't know anything about. But they're always giving a performance. An actor can play something they're not, or they can play something close to who they are. That's not really relevant. They're always playing a character within a dramatic situation.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | March 5, 2022 2:32 AM |
Sean Connery was immensely talented playing himself, even after he could no longer rely on incredible good looks.
He made himself seem likeable.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | March 5, 2022 2:36 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 138 | March 5, 2022 4:35 AM |
The older I get, the more I realize that simply being attractive and aging well with dignity is a talent all by itself.
The best pretty boy actors are the ones who get into their 30's and come to the conclusion that they won't be pretty forever and go into character acting. A lot of them can surprise and have long careers with some very interesting work.

by Anonymous | reply 148 | March 6, 2022 11:48 AM |
But for all those minimally talented yet beautiful actors we'd have no movie industry. Face it, the actual percentage of truly great actors in the movie industry is minuscule. And that percentage is getting smaller and smaller all the time. Back in the day when they had the studio system, actors may have been treated like livestock, at least until they lucked into a role that made the studio a lot of money and made the executives sit up and take notice and pay them good money, but they were well trained by top notch acting coaches. These days we have too many actors who've never studied acting at all. They have to do a scene umpteen times until some director decides they've finally got a performance good enough to print. And many of them become big stars doing it that way. I don't know if that says more about their talent, or the fact that most movie goers have very low expectations. Lots of people couldn't tell a good performance on the screen to save their lives. As long as the actor looks handsome or pretty, they can do no wrong.

Ben was HOT AF in THE TOWN. Why he doesn’t stick to that look, is beyond me. Ever since he got back with JLo, his best lewks are that of a half assed Italian gigolo, who may have the onset of dementia.
Sorry, but I have a soft spot for Pitt. I know, I know. Things didn’t end well with his ex, but I don’t plan on ever marrying the guy, so I can crush away. No harm. No foul.
And yes, I think both men ARE talented, in the right films, with the right directors.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | March 6, 2022 1:50 PM |
R149, I agree with pretty much all you wrote, except for the part that most people wouldn’t be able to distinguish a good or even excellent performance, from a bias one.
Good and great acting is what makes anyone from a bus driver to a top film executive walk out of a movie theater with tears in their eyes, or laughing their asses off.
I understand the calculus for executing an perfect to almost perfect film are MANY facets, but in the end, if an actor isn’t very good to excellent in his role, the audience knows. This doesn’t stop them from loving the film. Same with lesser known British films, in America. European film in general, actually. You can get a gang banger from South Crntral to go in hard on an obscure film and cast, if the acting performances are excellent. Which underscores your point about trained actors being superior to untrained actors. Brits are usually very well trained in the dramatic arts. That’s why a gangbanger can really connect with Daniel Day Lewis. Because the best acting is when Daniel Day Lewis disappears and Abraham Lincoln has been waiting to meet you once you get on a time machine to go… back.
Great actors are great for many other reasons, however, don’t think most people don’t know great acting when they see it. They do. But they’re OK with mediocre talent as well, because that’s entertainment. Just entertain us by any means, and we’re happy. That is who we are, regardless of what particular medium of entertainment beseeches us.

I am reassessing Keanu because I think he realized early on why they were casting him, and it definitely wasn't his nonexistent acting talent.
The reassessment is because I think he acts the role of Keanu--wooden headed actor. I think he's something else entirely in RL that few know about.
He also knows why he is there--to be Keanu. He takes it unseriously, but still performs it. I think that's interesting.

Chris pine is a bit of an interesting actor, doesn’t here. I was going to say neither does Jonathan Groff then I realized he does. Christ Pine too.

They're a dime a dozen on Instagram and TikTok. They are handsome -- some indeed are beautiful -- and they have 0% fat on their gym-honed (and steroid-helped) bodies. They shimmy and shake their crotches and butts to clips from old or current songs. They pout, they smile, or they try to look seductive.
They have no other talents.
Here's one. You might quibble with me about his beauty, but you get the picture.

r181, yup
by Anonymous | reply 184 | March 8, 2022 2:27 PM |
It is becoming more prevalent. Casting directors and producers care now more how many social media followers they have than how much training they've had or what's on their resumes.
Some of the people mentioned in this thread aren't "no talents" though. Merely mediocre and can be good in the right roles.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | March 8, 2022 2:54 PM |
I guess there should be another thread for beautiful men with *some* talent.

The delicious Kirk Cameron, r186.

Tammy Fae, Rose! The years without Jim have been very kind her.

R187 Is his talent Nearer My God to Thee?
by Anonymous | reply 190 | March 8, 2022 4:34 PM |
Whatever you think of Kirk, he does have talent and is the handsome, athletic straight guy next door that WE ALL DESPERATELY WANT in our beds. Don't deny it!
by Anonymous | reply 191 | March 8, 2022 4:38 PM |
Thank you, Miss Cameron.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | March 8, 2022 4:43 PM |
Kirk is objectively VGL. That smile could melt ice, and you want to swim and get lost in his beautiful hazel eyes. He's basically a better looking version of NPH.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | March 8, 2022 11:57 PM |
He looks like a leathery muppet.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | March 8, 2022 11:59 PM |

Groff definitely does not belong here. Y’all are hateful.
by Anonymous | reply 198 | March 9, 2022 9:47 PM |
Groff does not belong here because he's fugg. And an insufferable queen.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | March 9, 2022 9:50 PM |
Groff is not attractive in the least. He has the type of look that will only increasingly make him resemble a lesbian as he ages.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | March 9, 2022 9:59 PM |
What about Dash Riprock?
by Anonymous | reply 201 | March 9, 2022 10:28 PM |
Any soap hunk belongs here. I know you queens worship Grant Aleksander because of his legendary endowment (which I can attest to btw), but he was really a lousy actor. He didn't have the talent to make it outside of daytime.

Jamie Dornan
by Anonymous | reply 214 | March 10, 2022 9:00 PM |
Tom Welling is a great example. He was never the worst actor I'd seen, but he sure didn't bring a lot to the plate besides his perfect face. But what a face it is!
by Anonymous | reply 215 | March 10, 2022 10:14 PM |
So far that I know Jamie Dornan has put in 2 very good performances - The Fall and Belfast. Haven't seen him in anything else I recall. I cannot say he has no talent. But I can say he is beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | March 10, 2022 10:18 PM |
I hadn't enjoyed Dornan in much, but he was amusing and funny in that Barb and Star movie. I was surprised by how game he was to make a fool of himself.

Robert Scott Wilson is horrible, this 'actor' brings new meaning to the expression 'wooden acting'. I stopped watching that soap he was on, I gather this guy still has a job?

Do you have cataracts AND glaucoma? This freak is not "gorgeous". Never was, is not now. He's another Drumpf chinless wonder.
Be gone, troll.

Has the beautiful, but inert Cameron Dallas been mentioned yet? Him and all those MagCon guys had sparkle, but not much more beyond that. It’s amazing how much a nonentity Blake Gray has become in a short time.
by Anonymous | reply 227 | March 11, 2022 12:50 AM |
R227 I forgot about that bitch. Definitely cute and definitely talentless. Was taking money from chickenhawks as a barely legal twink while being a homophobic Bible-thumper.

R227, good lord. That's what Brad Pitt's daughter would look like if she transed.

Joe D'Alessandro was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful but was more wooden than a plank of wood. He managed to have a career beyond Warhol/Morrissey, starring in French and Italian movies throughout the 70s, still bearing it all.

Yes, R227...I mentioned him (R110). I also included video from his Broadway debut in Mean Girls.

Tuc Watkins. He had good comic timing on the soaps, but he is cringe at anything remotely dramatic.

That stud Robert Tyler from that awful soap Loving. I'd watch just for him. His "acting" was atrocious, but who cares when you look like that. As a teen gayling, he was my go-to JO fantasy. I use to tape the show, pause the screen when he appeared shirtless, and JO away.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | March 11, 2022 3:41 PM |
That idiot who played Jesus. Caveziel or something like that. This guy
by Anonymous | reply 240 | March 11, 2022 3:53 PM |
Finn Wittrock is very talented, though. Saw him on stage a few times and he was wonderful. Stage is the real test of someone's talent (or lack thereof) and he passed with flying colors.
by Anonymous | reply 241 | March 11, 2022 5:15 PM |
Finn Wittrock was really good on All My Children. But he was too good for soaps. He's definitely a talented guy. I think he dated one of his (female) co-stars from the show.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | March 11, 2022 5:25 PM |
It's Finn Wolfhard who can't act. But he's cute.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | March 11, 2022 5:52 PM |
R240, you wouldn't want to be friends with Jim Caveziel...he's an absolute religious nut job! Trumper?

Joe Dallesandro appeared in many mainstream TV series, for some reason he got hired, he sure wasn't getting naked on primetime TV. He appeared in a few episodes of Miami Vice, Matlock and he was a regular during the first season of Wiseguy.
Joe also appeared as the gangster Lucky Luciano in Coppola's The Cotton Club. Last I heard he's managing an apartment building in California with his third wife.
Joe and his oldest son Mike.
