What annoys me about Welling trying to capitalize off of "Smalllville" since he doesn't have a career is that while the show was on he rarely did press for it, he only attended one Comic Con and that was in it's final season or maybe second to last season and he did not want to suit up as Superman. Sarah Michelle Gellar is a great example. She wanted nothing to do with Buffy for years while she tried to make her film career and when that didn't quite work out she finally started to embrace it.

From a professional standpoint: it's hard to get cast as one thing when you're well known for something else.
