What's the sleaziest gay bar you've ever been to?

Which bar? Why was it so sleazy - did you partake in whatever sleaziness?

by Anonymousreply 233December 17, 2023 10:31 AM

J's in the Village, back in the day.

Yeah, I put on a little show with the guy I was dating. I was a little bit of a ho.

Oh, but 'sleaziest' isn't 'worst'. Not by a long-shot.

by Anonymousreply 4February 20, 2022 10:00 PM

Rawhide in New Orleans way back in the day - no idea if it's still fun.

The sleaziest gay bars overall for me were in Berlin. I can't remember any of the names, though!

Any wild ones in Montreal? I have to visit for work in April.

by Anonymousreply 9February 20, 2022 11:09 PM

Another vote for Rawhide in New Orleans. It was still sleazy the last time I went back in 2016.

by Anonymousreply 10February 20, 2022 11:17 PM

The Heretic in Atlanta.

by Anonymousreply 11February 20, 2022 11:18 PM

Co-sign Rawhide, R5. I went there only once, it was during Southern Decadence a few years ago when there was a tropical depression in the area. Things were wetter and grosser and more humid in town owing to the storm and the crowds; however this trip to Rawhide is the only time I had to literally rush out of a bar because I started dry-heaving from the stench. I had stepped into the back room out of morbid curiosity; guys were clearly fucking in the shadows, but I’d bet $100 dollars that someone had literally taken a dump in the middle of the room. The smell was worse than any public latrine I’ve ever used.

by Anonymousreply 12February 20, 2022 11:25 PM

I went to Rawhide once. Things happened there that I never saw in a bar in NYC. It was basically a bathhouse that was allowed to pretend to be a bar.

by Anonymousreply 13February 20, 2022 11:27 PM

The Lure in the NYC Meat Packing district. Closed now, but I had lots of fun when it was open (before gentrification).

by Anonymousreply 14February 20, 2022 11:28 PM

The Toolbox, Toronto.

It was nasty, sleazy.....and glorious.

by Anonymousreply 15February 20, 2022 11:29 PM

The Spotlight in Hollywood. The oldest gay bar in L.A. (now clised) where every drunk headed to first thing in the morning. They were opened from 6 AM to 2 AM every day.

by Anonymousreply 19February 20, 2022 11:41 PM

I went to Js, checked my clothes at the door, grabbed a roll of paper towels and put some paper towels in the center of the floor, got on my knees and jerked off while everyone gathered around and watched. I came and left. That was fun.

by Anonymousreply 20February 20, 2022 11:47 PM

Can’t leave out Jewels in NOLA! It closed in the early 90s. There was usually a line to get into the bathtub in the mens room.

by Anonymousreply 21February 20, 2022 11:50 PM

Also- if it counts as a bar, I went to a gay movie house and “watched” the movie while one person rimmed me and another sucked my dick. I said once I cum, I’ll leave. In unison, they said “we know.”

by Anonymousreply 22February 20, 2022 11:50 PM

I went to The Heretic (a.k.a. "The Hairy Dick") with some friends in the late '90s and had a blast. We were making our way through "The Gauntlet" (the hallway where you go to get felt up) when one of our group—one of my dearest friends, and one of the biggest queens in the universe—got impatient with how slowly things were moving and screamed "WE GOT A PREGNANT WOMAN COMIN' THROUGH!"

by Anonymousreply 23February 21, 2022 12:07 AM

The Mineshaft, definitely.

by Anonymousreply 24February 21, 2022 12:09 AM

The basement/back room at Deeks in Chicago. It was a fuckatorium.

by Anonymousreply 25February 21, 2022 12:11 AM

The Mine Shaft. Nothing even comes close.

by Anonymousreply 26February 21, 2022 12:24 AM

The Eagle in DC (2009). Me and my boyfriend at the time were in our 20s, and we were both small town hicks. However, we liked to explore different gay bars in the district and The Eagle had decent reviews.

Most of the clientele were leather daddies in their 50s or 60s, and upon walking in there were a handful of TVs playing gay porn. We tried not to act like we were in a zoo and avoided staring, but the whole environment was fascinating. At one point while my boyfriend and I were sitting at the bar and talking, an old guy in a leather vest walked up and started licking my boyfriend’s shoes.

by Anonymousreply 27February 21, 2022 12:28 AM

I don’t remember the name. It was in Little Rock. I think it was on the ground floor of a hotel, in downtown. And where some bars have a back room, that would describe this entire small bar. You walk in the door and within the first 5’ there is hardcore action going on.

by Anonymousreply 28February 21, 2022 12:31 AM

For me it was either Rawhide in NOLA as mentioned above. Or My Place in San Francisco. Both were very fun in the 90s. Though it seems most places in the 90s that had more than 2 or 3 gay bars had at least one with sex fests going on somewhere on property.

by Anonymousreply 29February 21, 2022 12:57 AM

Rawhide in NOLA is now a sports bar only....Dykes ruined it for the gay boys a few years ago...Also there was pettiness between the owners of Rawhide and the Eagle

by Anonymousreply 30February 21, 2022 1:13 AM

I let a guy blow me for a new pair of sneakers (he worked as an Adidas wholesaler) at the bar at the International Stud way back in the day. I thought that was pretty sleazy. I went to the Mine Shaft a few times, but I didn't really see anything that sleazy. I mean, I expected to see guys getting fisted while other guys watched.

Some DC bar had a whipping night. That was pretty out there, watching guys taking turns getting flogged. I had only done that kind of thing in someone's place, not in public.

by Anonymousreply 31February 21, 2022 1:28 AM

I’ve never really been one for super sleazy bars or public sex, but I was visiting Memphis a few years ago and went to the only true gay bar there, The Pumping Station. I had been advised to visit “The Treehouse” out back, for the real debauchery. I guess I was feeling very “why the hell not” that night, and I ended up in the tree house making out with and jerking this hot blonde guy, while another guy played with my nipples, and two other guys got on their knees and took turns sucking me off. It was crazy, and not something I really care to ever do again, but it’s a fun memory. I am not sure if this bar is still open.

by Anonymousreply 32February 21, 2022 1:49 AM

Touche

It was nicknamed Touchy's for a reason

by Anonymousreply 33February 21, 2022 3:04 AM

The old Stella's on West 48th Street here in NYC.

A basement bar with vintage Latina drag performers and a huge contingent of prostitutes who were all over every guy there over forty.

by Anonymousreply 34February 21, 2022 3:19 AM
Can’t leave out Jewels in NOLA! It closed in the early 90s. There was usually a line to get into the bathtub in the mens room.

A friend of mine tried to go in the bathroom there and found his boss reclining in the tub getting pissed on.

Jewel's also had monthly acid parties — a free punchbowl on the bar.

I've been to a number of leather bars, but Jewel's was really a bar for bikers who happened to be gay.

by Anonymousreply 35February 21, 2022 3:26 AM
There was usually a line to get into the bathtub in the mens room.

Will always remember my night in the bathtub at the Toolbox....which was out on the back patio.

So many hot cocks. So much piss. So much cum.

by Anonymousreply 36February 21, 2022 3:30 AM

Another vote for Rawhide in Nola. Sad to hear it is apparently no more r30.

Next up would be The Cock in NY.

by Anonymousreply 37February 21, 2022 3:32 AM

My Place in San Francisco. Faces in ESL. That’s where I saw Andy Cohen in the backroom.

by Anonymousreply 38February 21, 2022 3:46 AM

Another vote for Heretic Atlanta. It was terribly good and trashy into the 2010s down The Gaunlet and into the pool table room. It’s the only bar I’ve witnessed a circle jerk on the dance floor.

by Anonymousreply 39February 21, 2022 3:46 AM

Studio Six in Atlantic City.

by Anonymousreply 40February 21, 2022 3:51 AM

The Duquinois (sp) in Brussels.

by Anonymousreply 41February 21, 2022 4:03 AM

Stella’s is a good one. Cats too. I can’t remember the name of the bar but I was in a big dick contest at a bar in DC. I literally got naked onstage and fluffed myself in front of hundreds. I don’t have a big dick but I’m an exhibitionist. People asked me what I was thinking of to get hard. I don’t know what I said. Crazy to think back on that. Was that legal? I went home with one of the guys. Don’t remember much about him. His place was sleazy though.

by Anonymousreply 42February 21, 2022 5:08 AM

The glorious arc of Amsterdam-Hamburg-Berlin used to be amazing. I need my fainting couch to recall the countless dick I have had in those bars in my life. In Eagle Amsterdam alone I must have had hundreds of dicks in some form.

The golden days seem to be leaving though. Both because younger guys seem to be more interested in their phones these days than the joys of a random encounter at a bar, and well, because I’m now an elder gay and not popular anymore.

by Anonymousreply 43February 21, 2022 6:10 AM

Rockbar. Underwear party. Yes, I did.

by Anonymousreply 44February 21, 2022 6:16 AM

Not all that sleazy really, but I think it was called the Hole in the Wall in the Tenderloin circa 1999. Week after Pride. Met a random guy on the bus while visiting who ended up as my tour guide. He told me to go touch the back wall and come back out before we went to The Stud. Dicks everywhere. Porn on the TV. Back room smelled like cum and piss and shit. We ended up talking to some pilled out go-go boy while stuck just feet from the front door.

Maybe it wasn't sleazy, it was just every gay experience packed into 30 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 45February 21, 2022 6:23 AM

C.C. Slaughter in Portland, Oregon. In the 1980's(while still underage) I snuck in there. It was creepy and sad. Dark and smelly. Most patrons were gaunt looking and I was truly shocked to see one old man giving another a bj on the dance floor. The bar was located beneath a gay bath house and I'm guessing that several of the barflies had upstairs memberships. Outside was decorated with trash cans and drug dealer, ghetto thugs. There weren't many choices back then.

by Anonymousreply 46February 21, 2022 6:52 AM

So, after all the chatter about NOLA Rawhide, I wanted to see what it looked like because I did go to a bar away from the main drag, but wasn’t sure by the name. As soon as I saw the interior shots and that it was on a corner it confirmed that it was. It was totally my kind of place, dark and sleazy. I did pick up a guy, but we didn’t do anything publicly there beyond some deep kissing and handsy stuff.

I did go home with him and had a hot time and he had a beautiful shotgun house beautifully renovated and very nicely appointed. He had the most amazing sandalwood hand soap in the bathroom that I went through every variety for years trying to find the exact one, but never did.

He was very sweet and drove me back to the convention center for my conference way early in the morning then anybody as a right to ask them to do on a bar hookup. Good times! But here’s an article about the infractions. The cops covertly filmed sex acts (all legal on their part they say) and there were such other activities as pup play and poppers! Oh, the horrors!

Another Rawhide NOLA vote. I was there one night a road trip in 2002ish. What a seedy, sleazy dump!

The bartender was this hot, burly daddy who took a liking to me. He sort of protected me from all the vultures all night (I was 22 ish). But he also made it very clear he wanted me. Then he took me home after closing and fucked the hell out of me.

We're still friends a thousand years later.

by Anonymousreply 48February 21, 2022 7:14 AM

The back area of The Powerhouse, with the aroma of cocksuckers, (be still, my heart) and cigar smoke.

by Anonymousreply 49February 21, 2022 7:19 AM

Did the new Eagle in NYC ever attain the sleaziness of the Westside Highway location? I remember doing unspeakable things with like five guys in the bathroom there, but the new location didn’t have the same sleaze factor and lived in feel to me. And did the old location get torn down or was the space converted and into what?

by Anonymousreply 50February 21, 2022 7:43 AM

R50 Here, actually cancel the above, it was the Spike that I fooled around 8n, not the original Eagle location. I liked the Spike a lot more then the Eagle, but it was always great to have both to rotate back and forth between.

by Anonymousreply 51February 21, 2022 7:50 AM

Pretty much any bar when I was single and was visiting from out of town, armed with a bottle of Truvada, especially small towns in Northern California and Oregon (where there's such desperation and everyone has already fucked everyone, so you're the fresh meat) and some larger cities in Europe and Canada. I'm a San Francisco native and basically shy. I don't go out to the bars here after dark -- they're all sleazy -- and I've accumulated a few evil ex-es who seem to appear everywhere when I go out and about. But when I've traveled, I've often ended up being that guy on his back on the pool table like Jodie Foster or against the wall in the mens' room after they've bought me my third drink. (Those types are so disgusting. Who would do that? Certainly not I). I was terrified at the prospect of going home with men because they are all all sleazy axe murderers, but sure, hey let's jack each other under the bar or have you fuck me in my ass in the back room or out in the bushes because that'll be totally safe and you're the most handsome man in the bar and we have so much in common after that six minute conversation. One such guy is my husband, whom I met at a sleazy bar in Mexico. We couldn't stop being sleazy. He's a proper Bostonian who hates it when I tell friends the story (i.e. the truth) about how we met.

by Anonymousreply 52February 21, 2022 8:07 AM

Another vote for Stella’s and Cats in old midtown NYC. The aggressive dancers at Cats were always handsy and hungry and the pros at Stella’s were easily available and quite flexible in my experience.

by Anonymousreply 53February 21, 2022 8:22 AM

The Savoy behind Port Authority. It had an end of the world feel too it, rather than sleazy. It was almost poetic. Samuel Delaney wrote about it.

by Anonymousreply 54February 21, 2022 11:06 AM

Is this why they hate us?

by Anonymousreply 55February 21, 2022 11:14 AM

Le Dépôt in Paris. Cruisiest place I’ve ever been, peepholes, slings, cubicles with fat old men wanking off alone hoping for someone to come along. Most clubs in France are sleazy as they all have dark rooms, which sometimes even fag hags end up in.

by Anonymousreply 56February 21, 2022 11:19 AM

El Hombre in the back of Port Authority. The most low-rent Latin hustler bar you could ever imagine. It was dangerous too. I don’t know what I was thinking, going there when I was a skinny 22-year old. One night a guy followed me into the bathroom and tried to mug me. Luckily the bartender, who was this huge Puerto Rican guy, knew what was up and came in and threw the guy out. Then walked me outside while I hailed a cab. He told me not to come back HA.

by Anonymousreply 57February 21, 2022 11:55 AM

The Green Lantern in DC in the 90s. Basically the entire second floor was a dark room, especially on Thursday’s when shirtless men drank free. If you didn’t cum before leaving, you weren’t trying to.

by Anonymousreply 58February 21, 2022 12:01 PM

Damn, I'm envious of all these. I want some sleazy bar experiences! Just before COVID shit, I did go to a bathhouse in Vegas a few years ago - it was freaking amazing fun. It wasn't a bar, but it was right around the corner from a fun little bar.

I really want some 'backroom fun' as part of a bar, though, so if I chicken out, I can just go back to the main bar, and keep drinking until I'm no longer apprehensive.

by Anonymousreply 59February 21, 2022 12:02 PM

In the 80's my friends and I would spend Sunday afternoons at The Monster, Ty's and The Dugout. We'd wind up getting sleezier with each bar that we went to. The last stop was always The Mineshaft. It was very sleazy.

by Anonymousreply 60February 21, 2022 12:10 PM

Are you talking about legimate bars that happen to be sleazy or sleazy places that happen to have full bars? If the latter, definitely Vault 139 crise bar in London. It’s still as active as it’s ever been, but you’re pretty much guaranteed a trip to the GUM clinic and a round of antibiotics. Prep has made everything else skyrocket, and there’s a nasty strain of Shigella going around London. I’ll stick to the memories.

by Anonymousreply 61February 21, 2022 12:13 PM

OMG I've been to almost every bar listed

by Anonymousreply 62February 21, 2022 12:15 PM

When I moved to NY in the early 80s, the sleazier clubs I used to attend were The Haymarket, on 8th Ave., and Uncle Paul's, in the Village. Lots of rent boys. I was there constantly.

La Concha in Barcelona. Many years ago we went there out of curiosity as we had heard it was a gay venue. . There were Arab drug dealers with guns at the bar, hard bitten transvestite prostitutes who looked as rough as guts, and there was a general air of danger. The place was covered with hundreds of photos of the actress Sara Montiel.

We went back some years later and it had become a backpackers’ haunt. Very dull.

I remember the male brothels in Amsterdam, filled with boys from Poland and other central/eastern bloc countries. Prostitution wasn't officially legal, although it was very open everywhere. At one point, the Dutch legalized prostitution officially, which meant only guys from the European Union could work there, and their earning's were taxed. This helped close the places, along with the internet.

In the mid-late 80s and for years thereafter I spent almost every Saturday night at La Escuelita. Around 3:30am-ish I'd head over to El Hombre in the back of Port Authority, because that seemed like a safe idea, then after scoping out the place I'd head over to Stingray's on the West Side Highway for some after hours dancing and cruising, arriving home around 7:00am, or a bit later.

At the time it seemed like a perfectly good use of my time and resources.

Central Station in King’s Cross, London. Club nights are held in the cellar, and there are pitch black corridors leading off from the main area. There were many horror stories about the lights coming on at the end of the night and guys saw who they had been with. My favourite was about a guy who discovered that in the dark, he had been sucking off his father. I’m not so sure it was an urban myth!

by Anonymousreply 84February 21, 2022 2:42 PM

Sad to hear both the upstairs at Pheonix and the Rawhide in New Orleans are gone. Those two bars were the main reasons I even went to New Orleans. I haven't been in several years now (used to go at least twice a year).

I wonder if Corner Pocket is still active... sleezy twinks on the bar top, frequent hand jobs and occasional oral with the strippers in the corners.

by Anonymousreply 85February 21, 2022 2:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 87February 21, 2022 2:51 PM

I'd say both Pheonix and Rawhide (and New Orleans in general) took a nose-dive in sleaziness after Katrina. In particular, "Lafite's in Exile" went from a really fun sleazy upstairs (my first public blowjob was on the balcony there, my very first time in New Orleans, in the middle of the day, just hours after my plane landed) to just a brass-and-fern bar with zero sexual temperature. Very odd and annoying.

by Anonymousreply 88February 21, 2022 2:56 PM

They were ALL in Paris, in the 80s, 90s, oughts. Sleaze is a style, and the French are masters of style. Germans are prim and though capable of extreme sleaze, they are clean and anal retentive about it. English are too good timey and drunk. The Italians have too much class to commit to sleaze. The Spanish prim as well, not clean, but dainty somehow. Thailand is sleazy but they don't really know they are. The French know what they are doing.

By the way, the sleaziest hetero bar is in Monte Carlo.

by Anonymousreply 97February 21, 2022 6:57 PM

In Madrid naked club. Lots of hot guys lots of sex and oral everywhere. Spanish guys love sex!

Went to The Anvil late on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. Managed to make my way downstairs and it was packed. Wandered around for a while. Lots of groping. I'd had on a new pair of white Stan Smith kicks that kept sticking to the floor. By the time I got out of there, (after a mind-numbing blow job), I went outside and my sneakers were a dark, muddy brown in color. Never went back.

The Eagle in Chicago had a rowdy basement. It's the one and only place I've seen fisting in public. I think it also got spillover from Man's Country next door as it got later in the evening.

by Anonymousreply 101February 21, 2022 9:16 PM

There was a hole in the wall older bar on the edge of Silver Lake in a more residential setting away from the cluster of other bars. It was quite sleazy and fun and I went there in the early 2000s, but can’t seem to find the name of it and It may no longer exist. I had a great time there and it was after hours, but it was also quite the drug den with everyone asking for a bump.

by Anonymousreply 102February 21, 2022 9:17 PM

DC had a lot more sleazy places. Totally nude dancers on the bar in one place, dipping their dicks into the mouths of customers sitting at the bar. Forget the name of the bar.

The Mineshaft in NYC, lots of hot kinky adventures.

by Anonymousreply 109February 21, 2022 10:05 PM

R108 Wish you were there.

Not every experience is a Gold Star trick or a home run, but as I get older I have ZERO regrets.

by Anonymousreply 110February 21, 2022 10:12 PM

The Corner Pocket is still there in New Orleans. John Waters says it's one of his favorite bars in the world.

Basically Southern skinny hillbilly trade with homemade tattoos go-go-ing on the bar while older men leer and hold up dollar bills. For a dollar most of the boys will let you grope their junk.

The bathroom has a trough and once when I was there it was plugged up and must have been for days. The accumulated urine was at the very tippy-top and threatened to slosh onto your shoes as you peed.

Give a click to see the "talent."

R82 Second vote for CUFFS in Silverlake. As a young gayling right off the bus my buddies took me there. My jaw dropped.. Muscle porn actor Greg Strom came up to me wearing just ass chaps and asked me to oil him up. He then asked me to fuck him at the bar. I blushed and demurred as I was still innocent to El Lay decadence. My friend Dane had no such compunctions and porked Greg while he sipped cold one.

Corner Pocket is there but didn't seem at all sleazy when I passed through Nola a few months ago. Though it was my first time so can't compare but no hanky panky going on in corners that night.

Like r88 said I got the impression the city has changed.

by Anonymousreply 113February 21, 2022 11:09 PM

In Chicago, the Loading Dock was pretty wild. Today Jackhammer and Touche are the only sleazy ones left Maybe Cell Block too .

by Anonymousreply 114February 21, 2022 11:09 PM

LOL. The Corner Pocket dancers reminds me of the Lucky Horseshoe in Chicago.

The Horseshoe did have strippers, too, but they were as sketchy as some of the boys at the Corner Pocket. Most of them looked like they had scurvy. And scabies.

by Anonymousreply 115February 21, 2022 11:10 PM

The Eagle in NY is still sleazy depending on the night r50. You can definitely catch people fooling around and even full on sex on a good night.

But not a wild bacchanalia. The Cock is the bar more geared towards cruising I'm NY. Though even that seems tamer to me than it used to be.

Still, they are the best NY has these days in terms of cruisy bars.

by Anonymousreply 116February 21, 2022 11:13 PM

R102 here, the named didn’t register at R82, but at R112’s description it did. Thanks for mentioning it, it was going to bother me the rest of the night!

by Anonymousreply 117February 21, 2022 11:15 PM

R106 It is. I had great sex there. I am not often a top but I saw a handsome guy followed and fucked him. Hot sex and we drank a bit afterwards.

by Anonymousreply 118February 21, 2022 11:15 PM

CUFFS had two single-person restrooms. The bottoms of the doors stopped about two feet from the floor so the bartender could check to see if anyone was fucking in there.

The scariest part was walking back to your car in a neighborhood known for lots of muggings. Anyone hiding behind a parked car on Hyperion Avenue could see exactly who was coming and going, how drunk they were, etc. There were times that if I couldn't find parking within a block or so I just went somewhere else.

by Anonymousreply 119February 21, 2022 11:18 PM

R12 thank you for the details, it was almost like I was there!

by Anonymousreply 120February 21, 2022 11:20 PM

The Padlock in Phoenix (which I'm sure few have heard of - it closed years ago). Leather bar with lots of drugs and sex being done in the "open".

The Eagle in Atlanta. The neighborhood/building alone screamed "you will die here somehow".

by Anonymousreply 121February 21, 2022 11:21 PM

R47 that article said the owner of Rawhide complained to the authorities about other gay bars b/c he thought they were taking business from him. What a shame, it just resulted in all of them closing.

by Anonymousreply 122February 21, 2022 11:37 PM

Wood- the owner of Rawhide “Prior to and following the hearing, the ownership of Rawhide complained of similar activity in neighboring clubs, including the Phoenix. More specifically, he felt his business interests were suffering because the clientele felt more comfortable patronizing the Phoenix. Commissioner [Juana Marine-Lombard] accepted his statements as a complaint and assured Rawhide’s ownership that the agency would investigate. Obviously, Phoenix was investigated and violations were cited.”

by Anonymousreply 124February 21, 2022 11:40 PM

La Cage in SE DC. A friend took me and the clientele were rough and the strippers were what an old acquaintance would call "rode hart and put away wet."

by Anonymousreply 126February 22, 2022 12:09 AM

I would have to say it was The Cove in Atlanta, back in the 70s. it was hard to even get into the building without passing by at least 2 cars with guys in them fucking or giving/getting head.

by Anonymousreply 127February 22, 2022 12:17 AM

Those guys at The Corner Pocket are about as skeezy as they come.

by Anonymousreply 128February 22, 2022 12:23 AM

This is more funny than hot and sleazy but I used to frequent a dive bar in NW PA as a college student.....one busy Saturday night two guys came in and hooked up in the mens' room. One of them had broken up with his BF a week or so before and was a very sought after piece of ass - quite a few guys had been chasing him around so they noticed when he hooked up with someone. The top was slightly older and had been dating someone else, so apparently when they both saw each other and it clicked that they were both single and available they had to fuck right THERE.

They were also both very, very drunk. And very loud. And the john was near the DJ booth, and after a while, the DJ just faded out the music and put a mic in a hole in the paneling near the john, so their post sex chatter was amplified. "Where.....wherrrrrreeeee issssss my underwearrrrr?" It was hilarious. When they came out they got a standing ovation.

While the Phoenix was fun and we knew one of the bartenders who we met in our city, we preferred Rawhide because it was sleazier. As for the Corner Pocket, we had a great time the first time we went there. We went in the morning and yes, there were white trash (and I say that with love) dancers. We were the only ones there. About 20 minutes in and joking with the guys and the bartender, one of the dancers asked to see my cock. Mind you, I was probably 57 and my partner was 52 at the time. Anyway, I happily obliged and the other dancer started playing with my partner. The bartender then locked the door and a good time was had by all.

by Anonymousreply 132February 22, 2022 4:21 AM

Do they let anyone in?

by Anonymousreply 133February 22, 2022 7:24 AM

Just average-level sleaze, bars/clubs with backrooms/dark rooms with mazes and gloryholes where dick sucking and full on fucking was taking place. I've had my dick sucked through a gloryhole but I wouldn't have full on sex in that sort of environment, I'm not a total savage.

by Anonymousreply 134February 22, 2022 8:53 AM

Oh I forgot, one I think I've told on here before was a rent boy bar in Prague that I went to in my early 20s, not realising it was a rent boy bar, where the guys basically wandered around in underwear or naked. The boys were all Bel Ami types, and put on simulated live sex shows, and spent the intervals chatting up the (mostly) older American punters. Initially the punters thought I was one of the boys too. A beautiful guy with a perfect ass and the biggest dick tried to get me to take him home but I was only interested in the older, muscular bouncer who was allegedly straight according to the regular clientele. I danced with the hot boy completely naked and gave him a peck on the cheek but I left alone.

by Anonymousreply 135February 22, 2022 9:06 AM

Damn. Where can I do all this today? Great stories, but it sounds like most of these places have closed. That's a bummer.

by Anonymousreply 136February 22, 2022 11:19 AM

In NOLA now for Mardi Gras. I can report Phoenix upstairs is back to what it used to be. Haven’t been to Corner Pocket yet. Rawhide over the last several years has gone from sleazy to dangerous. Gotta watch your wallet in Rawhide.

by Anonymousreply 137February 22, 2022 11:31 AM

R103 is probably talking about the long-gone Parliament House (yes, congressmen were seen there, it was within sight of the Capitol building)... or the more recently gone "La Cage" or "Wet" bars.

I dont' think they have fully nude male bars in DC anymore. Which kinda sucks.

I've also wondered how these places would have survived the pandemic, so I'm not surprised to find out most of them are no more.

by Anonymousreply 138February 22, 2022 1:32 PM

R107, I have no idea what you're talking about, and Google isn't helping.

My experience with Seattle gay bars is that there was very, very little sleaze.

There was a "Blow buddies" type place though... like a bath house where you kept your clothes on, and there were glory holes and porn playing. But other than that... the bars were pretty tame.

by Anonymousreply 139February 22, 2022 1:35 PM

I don't have a sleaziest bar I've ever been to but I have the most wholesome gay bar I've ever been to.

The Works on the Upper West Side near the Museum of Natural History. It was a wholesome crowd ca. 1995 of Yuppies and Preppies- Good looking Yuppies and Preppies I might add.

by Anonymousreply 140February 22, 2022 1:44 PM

R138, it could also have been Rascals, which was my local dongbar when I lived in DC, right above Dupont Circle. Penises on parade.

It's closed now, but Le Roundup in New Orleans generated some hilarious stories in old threads. Someone described it as a real-life Cantina from [italic]Star Wars.[/italic]

Some highlights include the following:

• An enraged drag queen trying to set another queen's wig on fire.

• A group of clueless tourists who wandered in, looked around, and then fled in horror.

• Restrooms labeled "Men," "Women," and "Others."

• A bartender opening a bottle of beer with his asscrack for a customer who was a jerk.

• Another bartender berating a regular for bleeding all over the bar.

I lived in Amsterdam for a year in 1995/6, when I was 21. I was such a little slut. Every bar had a backroom. And every Tuesday afternoon I would go to the Thermos sauna because they let chickens in for half-price then. Memories! These days they would probably charge me double.

The Tilden.

I remember getting sucking off a guy that had to be in the mafia (his "bodyguard" was there watching both of us) in a room that reeked of piss and poppers.

The bodyguard had serious BDF. Wish I'd had him too.

I guess sleazy gay bars can exist anywhere... size of the population, geography not a factor.

Springfield, MA had, over several decades, four gay bars... The Frontier, The Pub (w The Quarry in the basement). Just Friends and Judge's Chambers.

For sleaze, it was The Quarry; sleazier, Just Friends; and sleaziest? - Judge's Chambers.

Not one is still in business. The Frontier was a great place... so large with four different spaces; a true piano bar, a nice townie kind of space, a disco/dance bar and in the back a leather/levi joint.

Many a man sucked my dick in several of those spaces, but that was long ago and far away...

by Anonymousreply 157February 22, 2022 5:09 PM

As someone who has on occasion enjoyed a bit of piss play, I would probably love the German bars.

Unfortunately, I'd be very concerned that the same bars also feature "schiesse" play - nein nein nein!

by Anonymousreply 168February 23, 2022 1:41 AM

R163- I agree about Phoenix being more active than Rawhide. I liked to sit at the upstairs bar which had the only light and that was pretty dim. Every once in a while some guy would cuss and holler when he lifted his head to fast and hit the sloped ceiling. Or falling after running into one of the boards running across the room don't know what the purpose. Only got into that bathroom one time, I didn't enjoy stepping on people on the floor. Also kind of scared I would fall and get stepped on or worse.

I always thought all the sleaze bars were the kind of places you take the minimum you need and keep it in your socks. Didn't matter if it was cash or a hotel room key. If someone could reach it they were going to steal it.

by Anonymousreply 169February 23, 2022 1:46 AM

I respect NOLA as the capital of US sleaze. But Amsterdam in the 90s was THE place. Warmoestraat had multiple sleazy bars though I especially liked Argos as the oldest one with the old dusty marine equipment there for 100+ years. Then the Web and the other one nearby towards the Jordaan - perfect for a Sunday afternoon. If all else failed, the rent boy bars - though they were less sleazy then just slimy. The smell of filth, sweat, cum and poppers in the basement of Argos as a 22 year old was like entering heaven. America had nothing like it. Maybe Berlin the the 00s.

by Anonymousreply 172February 23, 2022 2:52 AM
I agree about Phoenix being more active than Rawhide. I liked to sit at the upstairs bar which had the only light and that was pretty dim.

Does anyone remember the old Rawhide, which had a big rectangular bar in the middle of the room? Perfect for cruising side to side and straight ahead. And the bar was deep — perfect for someone to drop down to the floor and administer a blowie to a guy sitting there sipping a drink.

Man's World on Detroit Ave. in Cleveland. It closed down years ago though.

Also in Cleveland, The Grid (back when it was on St. Clair). There was an adult bookstore to the left of it, and a gay bathhouse (Flex) to the right of it. It was like a gay trifecta.

by Anonymousreply 184February 23, 2022 4:46 PM

Cleveland did have a seediness that I liked. Mans World and Flex were great. One of the reasons I’ll always like Cleveland - it had a grittiness that the glamour cities have lost. Though not sure what is still left there. I spent a year there for work and really learned to like it. Poor cities are much more fun.

by Anonymousreply 185February 23, 2022 5:11 PM

Back when the Limelight was a club (inside a church in NYC), I was looking for a bathroom upstairs and inadvertently walked into a very active backroom. The backroom had a bouncer!

by Anonymousreply 186February 23, 2022 7:05 PM

R138, it was the Chesapeake House in DC. (Closed in early 90s I believe) Parliament House was a sleazy hotel in Orlando.

There was a bunch of sex and strip coins in SW DC in the 70s through 90s, mostly in a two block radius.

There was La Cage and Wet which were stripper bars with full nudity and touching. Wet was much later though.

There was Follies which was a combo sex club that also had stripper shows, glory holes and a porno theater. Long closed.

There was Glorious Health which was a glory hole sex club with lots of dark corners. It closed but reopened in NE DC but it’s not the same.

And there were the Club Baths which as far as I know was never really busy. At least not after the 70s.

All in a two block area. Plus Tracks and Nation.

DC in the 70s thru 90s was so fun.

by Anonymousreply 187February 23, 2022 7:26 PM

R184 I remember that block!

I saw the biggest cock I've ever seen on a white guy in that bookstore. Some tall Polish or Eastern European looking guy. It sort of bent and twitched as he was cumming....weirdly hot and surreal.

by Anonymousreply 188February 23, 2022 7:28 PM

Have posted here before about Cleveland, Pittsburgh and some towns nearby/in between - any of those areas where the immigrant population was mixed with Italians, Eastern Europeans, Russians, and immigrants from the Baltic states - those guys are HUGE hung. Grew up there and always found that to be true. They were kinda rough looking, no one was winning a modeling contract, but damn, those dangling dongs were insane.

by Anonymousreply 189February 23, 2022 7:31 PM

R187, Ahh, the memories! I discovered the SW DC clubs and bathhouse the summer after high school. Ahh, the fun!

by Anonymousreply 190February 23, 2022 7:41 PM

I remembered another thing about Central Station in London. They used to hold piss nights. Guys would queue up to lie in a paddling pool and be pissed on. A friend of a friend used to go, and he got a big kick out of travelling home on public transport stinking.

by Anonymousreply 191February 23, 2022 7:49 PM

Thanks to people mentioning The Savoy and El Hombre near Port Authority in NYC. I remember going into those places a handful of times in the 90’s and it was like another world. One of them was right inside a kind of overpass that lead into Port Authority. Which? The atmosphere was very cave-like with the concrete and neon everywhere, the you walked though the doors into a gay sleeze madhouse. It was like Blade Runner.

by Anonymousreply 192February 24, 2022 11:37 AM

The Times Square area was still hopping with sleaze in the early/mid 90’s with Stella’s and Cats hustler bars and The Savoy and El Hombre and many other places, like the live sex and movie theaters and porn stores. The Gaiety!

I lived NYC from 1990-2007. At the time I felt liked I’d missed the glory sleaze years of NYC in the 70’s/80’s (which I generally think is true) but looking back I realize the 90’s NYC was still wonderfully gritty and insane.

by Anonymousreply 193February 24, 2022 11:52 AM

Yeah. All the sleaze is vanishing. Kinda depressing.

by Anonymousreply 194February 24, 2022 1:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 196February 24, 2022 11:38 PM

Back before The Mine Shaft was The Mine Shaft, the space hosted a bar called The Zodiac. I was seeing one of the bartenders at the time and I'd go by in either the early afternoon or very, very, very late, before or after business hours, and all the bartenders would take turns fucking me on the pool table. Those were the days, my friend.

by Anonymousreply 197February 24, 2022 11:48 PM

R197 you were raised right.

by Anonymousreply 198February 24, 2022 11:50 PM

I spent Christmas break doing coat check at a place called Pegasus. (I wasn't quite 21 yet, but no one needed to know that.) It was mostly a club with a young clientele, but it could get sleazy from time to time. I had a very hairy daddy in flannel and jeans haul out a big uncut cock with the most foreskin I'd seen to that point, and slap it onto my counter as if he was weighing it. (Of course, I had manners and gave it a good tug or twelve.)

I was very flirty with two bartenders there. On the last Saturday night I was there, they had a few friends stick around and locked the door. I "went skiing" - a dick in my mouth, with my hand wrapped around two other cocks stroking them. I went home a very sticky but happy young lad.

Not a single vote for “ The Cock”? Behind that plastic curtain. But, true, no comparison with those sleazy Berlin Bars. Like “Ficken 2000”.

by Anonymousreply 201February 25, 2022 2:13 AM

“The Townhouse” on a Tuesday evening in the late 90’s. The smell of Depend, Fixodent, and shoe polish. Ah, memories…

by Anonymousreply 202February 25, 2022 2:25 AM

The Strap and The Toilet. I never went but i just like the names. But i did frequent the Olympic Lounge on West Side Highway and 49th St. It was a greek diner by day, at night a hustler dive bar. There was one show a night, the rentboys got naked on a stage. I blew a couple of them in the bathroom. It was torn down in late 90s and now is a fedex building. Started out as a kind of down low place but started getting popular, i saw Musto there. It lasted aboit a year, the same owner as Stellas. It was fun.

The Cock has been mentioned in three posts on this thread r201.

But it is the sleaziest bar in NY now, when most of this thread is reminiscing about glory days of the past.

Studio One West Hollywood

by Anonymousreply 205February 25, 2022 4:01 AM

Another vote for 79CXR in London. Never ended the night alone and a good mix of guys of all types.

by Anonymousreply 206February 25, 2022 4:06 AM

To repeat in what somebody said above, if you weren't in New York in the 70s you have no idea.

by Anonymousreply 207February 25, 2022 4:09 AM

Jewel's New Orleans

by Anonymousreply 208February 25, 2022 4:31 AM

Eldergays, Thanks for sharing your war stories. There has been maximum sleaze in every generation. I know of a bar in SF that closed at a certain hour, the windows were shuttered, and the fucking was on. And that was in the 2010s.

by Anonymousreply 209February 25, 2022 8:37 AM

There was fucking in the backyard of the Bicycle Bar on the Uws. But not every night.

by Anonymousreply 210February 25, 2022 9:29 AM

R210 Was it like an invitation only thing or what?

by Anonymousreply 211February 25, 2022 1:21 PM

TT's West in N.O. was also sleazy, but during Mardi Gras even the otherwise respectable Lafitte's in Exile had a gauntlet to be run upstairs.

by Anonymousreply 212February 25, 2022 2:07 PM

I recall taking a hetero co-worker to the Townhouse in the early 90's and when we got back into the piano lounge, he said, "None of this nice furniture would stand a chance in a straight bar".

by Anonymousreply 213February 25, 2022 3:14 PM

R200 yep, on Liberty Avenue.

by Anonymousreply 214February 25, 2022 10:20 PM

Jewel's had a bathtub and someone was usually in it for piss and scat play. Sometims someone lay in front of it for people to stand on while playing.

by Anonymousreply 215February 26, 2022 2:35 AM

I will never understand fetishing and eroticizing human waste. It's just disgusting and gross. There's nothing sexy or sexual about it.

by Anonymousreply 216February 26, 2022 2:55 AM

I agree with R216. I just don't understand. Likewise, the act of fisting is equally horrifying.

by Anonymousreply 217February 26, 2022 3:26 AM

Having lived in several different cities, I am proud to say that I have been to many of the places mentioned so far. I am surprised that no one mentioned one of my favorite sleazy places (which is now closed for many years) in Portland OR. The place was J.R.'s Cell, and it was a bar that was in the basement, below another bar with a different name, which I can't recall. The bathroom of J.R.'s Cell was wild.

by Anonymousreply 218February 26, 2022 3:36 AM

The Summer Olympics balance beam one.

by Anonymousreply 219February 26, 2022 3:51 AM

R187 yes those were the DC clubs whose names had escaped me. Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 220February 26, 2022 7:53 AM

Palms, Sydney

by Anonymousreply 221February 26, 2022 8:30 AM

R209: Truck??

by Anonymousreply 222February 26, 2022 10:03 AM

Probably The Eagle in Portland, OR back in the 1990s. I walked upstairs with friends and we walked through a circle jerk. I was young and innocent back then. In my memory, it feels like I was on a museum tour.

by Anonymousreply 223February 26, 2022 10:33 AM

"Circle jerk" - so that's like a really obnoxious guy with a hulahoop?

by Anonymousreply 224February 26, 2022 12:34 PM

^ Jacks used to meet in the meat packing district. It was so boring I never went back.

by Anonymousreply 225March 4, 2022 3:56 PM

Hasn't anybody been to the RAMROD in NYC back in the 70's. It was close to the docks which made it seem exciting at the time.

by Anonymousreply 226March 4, 2022 4:05 PM

R226- Well, it certainly lived up to it's name.

by Anonymousreply 227March 4, 2022 5:33 PM

The Candle Bar on the Upper west Side was the dingiest, dirtiest place I'd ever been to at the time.

by Anonymousreply 228March 17, 2022 12:29 AM

God, I can’t believe how much time I spent at Jewel’s in NOLA. But they had a Friday night beer bust that was $5, $3 if you brought a canned food item for the local AIDS service organization food pantry. As college students we’d stock up on 25 cent canned vegetables (the 90s) and show up punctually at the start and drink till it ended.

by Anonymousreply 229March 20, 2022 7:29 AM
I was probably 57 and my partner was 52 at the time. Anyway, I happily obliged and the other dancer started playing with my partner. The bartender then locked the door and a good time was had by all.

And so how much did they charge you after that?

Be honest, 20 year old twinks are not going after 57 year old gramps without excepting some kind of financial exchange.

They were all in Paris at the turn of this century. For some reason bareback sex was popular again, even though PREP wouldn't be marketed for years. There were at least a half dozen tiny gay bars with sex action. These seemed to predate the trend of extremely sleazy Berlin gay bars. The French culture easily supports a very grossier kind of sleaziness in contrast to the regimented fetishistic tendencies of the Germanic sex pig - the Germans are more performative, technical, artificial, but less creative. French sleaziness can have an organic or naturalistic feeling - despicable, filthy, depraved and exciting acts with no need for all the gear and rules and role-plays.

by Anonymousreply 231December 17, 2023 4:08 AM

The Senate floor.

by Anonymousreply 232December 17, 2023 4:35 AM

It had to be The Cove in Atlanta, back in the day. People were fucking in the cars in the parking lot.
