Gap Playlists Search
One of the highlights of working at Gap was the variety of music that played on the in-store tapes (later, CDs). So many different kinds of songs you would never hear on any radio station were superbly mixed together by AEI Music and Muzak for Gap.
I collected almost every single playlist from the Gap brand from June 1992 to February 2006, as well as most GapKids and babyGap playlists from May 1998 to February 2006 and many GapBody playlists from 2000 to 2004. I stored the playlists in a small cardboard box that was once used in visual displays at Gap in 1995. I would buy CDs with the songs I wanted, plus buying individual songs form iTunes starting in June 2005, while ever-so-slowly putting together playlists on my computer. In the back of my mind, I planned to recreate all of the playlists on my iMac. I wasn’t just interested in single songs but the playlists as whole entities.
Shortly after I left Gap in February 2006, I lost the box that contained all of the playlists during a move. It was devastating to realize that all of the playlists were gone forever. Eventually, I began my Gap Playlists blog in the hopes of attracting others who also saved the playlists from when they worked at Gap. Although I have recovered dozens of playlists thanks to the blog, there are still many more to go to reach my goal of re-obtaining the playlists that I lost.
If you worked at Gap and also saved any of the paper playlists that came with each month's CD/tape, please share them with me. Contact me at the blog:

Now YOU can listen to the music that started it all for me!
I started work at Gap at Highland Park Village in Dallas on October 17, 1992, and was immediately entranced by the music playing in stores. This led to my collecting the playlists that came with each month's new tape (later CD). I would buy CDs of the songs on the playlists, and assemble them on my computer in monthly playlists.
Unfortunately, I lost my copies of the playlists in 2006, and I have been actively searching to replace them since 2015. I have had quite a bit of success, although there are still many more to make their way back to me.
Recently, I purchased 20 of the monthly tapes made for Gap by AEI Music dating from 1992 to 1994. These tapes include my Holy Grail, the October 1992 Gap tape!
I've been uploading the digitized tapes to the Internet Archive for everyone's listening enjoyment, whether streaming or downloading.
Take a listen to October 1992 at Gap!

I just uploaded the May 1994 Gap cassette to the Internet Archive. This was the month where Gap embraced Alternative Music more, after four months of Swing & Jazz (to complement the WHO WORE KHAKIS campaign then).
It's a great mix of songs! Check it out!

No, I was lead to believe that all of the playlists were in the Gap archive in San Francisco. I spent a day there in July 2021 and no playlists. But it was an incredible experience.
In Fall/Winter 2021, two people shared over 10 playlists from 2002-2003, helping me greatly.
Finding these 1992-1994 tapes has helped knock out a bunch of the early missing playlists, but I still have many more needed from 1992 and 1994. And I need nine more from 1995.
Luckily, one of my sources form 2020 has contacted me that he's found several I'm missing from 1995-1999, so he's working on getting those scanned for me.
And I need a handful to a half-year of each year from 2000 to 2006.
So, I still need a lot more.
Here's the November 1993 Gap tape, just uploaded to the Internet Archive!

Very true. He's been asking for help for his playlists for years, then ignores all help given, and keeps changing the status from being a work in progress to complete to back to being a work in progress. Every few months there's a new "Hi everyone, I'm collecting Gap playlists!" as if he's never posted this exact thing before.
He's a notorious troll who has never left DL, so it's very weird to see people say they missed him when he was never gone. Also weird are all the people saying he's loved and an inspiration, when on any other thread, if he got brought up, people would be dunking on him for the trolling, the freakouts, the hate speech, the threats of banning, the way he posts just R#s because he can't figure out how ignore works, etc.

This past Monday, I received 52 Gap playlists from one source!
In the past five years of searching, I'd only recovered three Gap playlists form 1995 - and now I have them all!
Now the years 1995 through 1999 are completely full for monthly Gap playlists.
1992 - 6 more needed to complete the year
1993 - 2 more needed
1994 - 6 more needed
2000 - 2 more needed
2001 - 3 more needed
2002 - 1 more needed
2003 - 4 more needed
2004 - 7 more needed
2005 - 6 more needed
2006 - 2 more needed
That's it for Gap - not bad!
For GapKids, I need 1998 (all), 1999 (Jan-March, September), 2000 (February), 2001 (Jan-May), and a handful in the remaining years 2002-2006.
2022 has been a fantastic year for recovering Gap playlists!

I once knew an elderly woman who used to be a math teacher when she was younger. She had mental health issues and would constantly tell me the ages of people she knew, their birthdays and their age differences.
She always would explain the age differences between people as though she were adding numbers. Like in an OCD or autistic sort of way.
It's very similar to what this guy is doing. Only obnoxious and fucking annoying.

I told the Canadian pubic radio that i was 85% through with Gap brand. I have some more coming from 1992-1994, so that should boost Gap to around 90% complete.
GapKids is only about 60% at what I need. I really want all of 1998 for GapKids, and 4 from 1999. Gap and GapKids didn't merge until 1998, so I didn't know the GapKids music before then. But I really love GapKids playlists, especially from 1998. It was tragic to lose them.
GapKids needs a lot from 2003-2006, too.
GapBody would come and go as far as playlists went. Sometimes it would share with Gap, other months it would have its own separate and very unique playlist. I LOVE the GapBody playlists from 2000! Last Fall, a former Gap employee sent me seven GapBody playlists from 2002-2003, which helped a lot.
